Like one of the reviewers here, my car was stuck in limbo here over a month, but it was the insurance company's fault. Rafael kept in touch with us to let us know they were waiting for the appraisal guy to show up and then the adjuster lady to do her job. All this time our car was in his busy lot. It usually does not take this long but if you have a slow appraiser or adjuster, this will happen. Call your insurance company. Do not drop a negative 1 star review without doing your part as a responsible customer. However, that aside, let me tell you about how Rafael and LA Paint & Body Works took care of a Seco d bigger problem, which again is completely not his problem. Our family were set to go on a camping and biking vacation after a year of online school. Everything was ready: tent, bicycle carrier, class 2 hitch, sleeping bag, check . Just after we were good to go, a crazy meth head side swiped our car and sped off. He was chased, but because of poor policework and my spouse's poor English, plus the insurance company being negligent (they did not get the police report for over a month, our file was just on her desk), our vacation was delayed... The third problem, again, not LA Paint And Body Work's problem, was we did not have the $1,800 that the other driver's insurance decided not to pay. Our car ran fine, but it had nasty paint and scrape damage to 2 doors and the rocker panels. We can't drive around that even though we live in the ghetto (Koreatown), let alone drive to Florida in that condition. The lot at LA Paint And Body Works is huge, like the man himself. As soon as you see him, you know he is the boss with his barrel chest and big arms. However, my little Asian wife said he and his crew were super polite to her and she didn't feel weirded out like in other places. (It is partly her fault for wearing almost no clothes on going into supermarkets, banks, and blue collar places with nothing but yoga pants or less. She is really special, she just wants to be comfortable in this heatwave and we have been bicycling nearly everyday.) I spoke with Raphael on the phone and he kept us in the know about where the bottleneck was. We knew the insurance was at fault and that we would have to hire a lawyer to get something done, and we were at our wit's end after over a month... We went into his lot and thought we would garage our car and deal with the legal work after a shorter distance vacation with our beater Hyundai that can't pass emissions and is tagged out. Our bicycle carrier effectively hides the license plate that is expired... yeah, that is crazy, but our son has autism and OCD...he NEEDS to stick to the schedule, and besides we promised him. So I talked to Rafael what our situation is...if we fix our car out of pocket, no vacation. Our only income is disability income for our son. I was on unemployment income but it recently stopped for whatever reason for the nth time. Raphael did not hesitate and said how soon do you need it. He said it would be ready over the weekend and before I can even negotiate a cash price he disappeared into the shop. He was super busy with appraisers and delivery people all hovering around him. Half the FedEx fleet was in his lot, a coue of semi trucks, at least one RV, and cars and trucks. This man does not need my business. He could have just said have a nice day and get my drama off his back. So I left nit really understanding what happened. The next week we called and he said bring $100. I thought he was joking or talking with the wrong customer. When I came into his lot there was our Toyota, even washed. You could not tell there was damage unless you pointed it out. He did repair to two doors and side panels without having to replace any parts $$$. He even had the hitch installed. My wife was overjoyed and she wanted to hug or kiss him...I stopped that...I am a rooftop Korean. When I left, I let Raphael know I experienced so much back stabbing and selfishness in Los Angeles with family, "friends" and neighbors, and crazy drivers and we were so sick of Los Angeles and the people in it. Raphael at LA Paint & Body Works was selfless and did a BOSS move with his heart and will to power. He hasn't had the weekend off for the longest time because of the volume of commercial work he does. But he gives service that should be a basis for a TV special. A TV series ought to be made about this man, he is unique and has a presence made for Hollywood. He is a real man's man. A gentleman that treats you like one. He restored faith that selfless good people exist in real life, not just in the movies. What he did to save my summer vacation, for my son, and our sanity, was legendary. He is not a myth, he is in Gardena standing next to Big Rigs with his phone ringing off the hook. read more

I have a 2002 Suburban. The interior is in great shape but it has over 200,000 miles on it and the front windshield seal leaked water into the cabin when it rained. Also there was rust on the roof in a variety of places. Other estimates I had received to repair the damage were too high to consider and I thought I might have to junk the car. One of the expensive body shops I went to had referred me to the man who they said is used by many body shops in greater LA to replace windshields for everything from big rigs to exotic sports cars like Ferraris. When I had him look at my car, he suggested I go to LA Paint & Body Works. He said they're the best in town. He told me they service the entire fleet of FedEx trucks in all of Southern California. He offered to call them on his cell and would describe all the damages over the phone to the manager Rafael Tabanico. Rafael said he'd repair all the problems described including removal and replacement of the windshield after repairing all the metal rust damage and all the roof rust and even some other rust spots on the doors. So I left my car with Rafael. The facilities are humble to say the least. The place has a somewhat grubby, heavy industry, truck-repair look and doesn't have the glossy customer greeting area most high-priced body shops have. I think the place caters almost exclusively to the big rig truck community like FedEx. Don't let that turn you off. The body work and paint job was flawless. I feel like my car is now like a new car! It seems like everything else in LA is overpriced. This place really was a bargain. I'm so impressed with the way Rafael under-promised and over-delivered that I can't recommend his professionalism and that of LA Paint & Body Works highly enough. I really do not understand what happened. I brought my vehicle in for an estimate on what I thought was a simple repair. The appraiser was really nice and took some pictures of the damage and said he would email me an estimate in four days. Cool no problem. I waited one month with no contact and finally called them. I talked to the secretary, asked about the estimate, she said she did not know about it but would have the appraiser call me back. I waited 2 weeks but no call. So I called again three more times. Each time the secretary said he would call me. But again, nothing transpired. So I called again almost 2 months later. The secretary said she talked to the appraiser but he did not have any memory on the estimate but asked for my email address and would email me. So I gave them my email address. You guessed it, I have NEVER received an email or a reply to ANY of my questions. I am very easy going, I just do not understand this at all. If you forget, mess up, or lose an estimate, just call and let the customer know. Why would any business just ignore EVERY inquiry? Six attempts to get an estimate and never even receiving one call back, what a pain. I cannot understand why they could not just take 2-3 minutes to tell me what was going on, I took 52 minutes to drive to this store and back to have my vehicle looked at, and made several calls to them asking them what the status was involving even more time with NO feedback. Dropped my car off approx 4/2014 for minor hood damage and front fender damage about the size of an apple. Days went by and I decided to call to check the progress and apparently my car was ready for pickup, luckily I called. When I went to pick it up, their card machine was out of service. I was told to come back with cash. I told them I wasn't comfortable with that and asked when they thought it would be up and running. Never got an answer. Called a week later and was told to bring a cashiers check after I told them I needed to pay with my credit card. The individual I dealt with, Tim, is someone I'd never deal with again let alone the company. If you don't call them, they won't call you (from my experience). read more

LA Paint & Bodywork and Rafael is awesome place!!. They of course do all kinds of vehicles but if you own an RV it is hard to find a place that can accommodate such a large vehicle. I am in the service industry as well and credit should be given when a business and the people who work there shine!! This is not a short testament to true service and integrity at LA Paint and Bodyworks!! If you get bored with details just stop here and know this place is great... I own a 39 foot Super C RV that is on a Freightliner chassis. Basically brand new and under warranty. I was having a significant problem, body swaying back and forth and I sounded like an old buckboard wagon or loud creaky bed springs, not a normal thing. This was a mystery to the huge Freightliner service center where we took it under warranty they did tightened some bolts they identified. But the noise and rocking problem was not improved, they got paid and sent me off to pursue a fix elsewhere. They were very nice there and handily fixed a different issue. I was kindly given me the business card to the awesome LA Paint & Bodyworks "call Rafael he is a good guy" stuck that in my purse when I picked up just in case.. In the mean time before picking it up.. The dealer service where we purchased the rig would not service this issue but I got it arranged that a different dealer service center (that does not sell my brand) was going to look at, all arranged. Then they backed out when I was trying to schedule the service, decided they would not service us because we are still under warranty... . The manufacturer was at a loss as to what to do other than come take my rig and transport it 2500mi to the factory for service. I was not OK with that we did not want to possibly cause more unknown damage and go without use for months etc. I was at a loss of what to do. That was when I called Rafael. I phoned told him my issue. I am in the SF Valley. He said bring it in for a free estimate. First impression on arrival, the place is busy, very clean and clearly well organized. He had one of his techs Juan get underneath. There was a bolt with no nut (missed by Freightliner) he replaced it immediately the rocking issue was fixed. Juan identified and fixed it in 10 min. Now the horrible mystery noise issue.. with more careful back and forth driving to identify the issue, a brand new RV that costs $$$ should not sound like this. They figured it out!!!! A bushings issue needed lubrication. Squirt squirt. And I was fixed!!!! Because an extra moment was taken, care and regard for my safety and for my investment in the beautiful RV, someone cared! Rafael is the bomb!!! While Juan was under my rig Rafael took me inside to look at a brand new Freightliner chassis to show me where all my issues were so had actual visual tool of what was happening. They were doing paint on the cab and there was no box on the chassis, how convenient for me. Rafael educated me and consulted on other paint issues, another story.. It is clear they care about the quality of the work they do. Sorry for the long post. Did I mention the follow up call at the end of that day to see if my drive back was quiet and smooth again? We had severe front end damage to our Ford F550-XL with utility body and ladder rack. Not every body shop can handle a truck this size. I received the estimate from Mercury insurance and met with Rafael, a very professional person, to get a quote on the repairs. He said the appraisal estimate was missing several items and said he would meet with the Mercury Adjuster to correct the issues and start the repairs right away. They got the revised appraisal the following day and eight days later my truck was expertly repaired and looks great. The paint match was exceptional for a 17 year old truck that lives outside. I recommend this body shop for you larger vehicles as they also repair Tractor Trailers and buses. They have a super clean facility with a huge paint booth. You won't be disappointed. This company has a contract with Apollo RV rentals. They appearantly take advantage of knowing they have a contract with a large company that might not scrutinize the cost and just pass it along to the customer, me, the one that rented an RV. I DO know body work well. A very small repair that I am familiar with ( and wish I would have taken care of myself) should have cost in the neighborhood of $ 200- 300 instead of over $500. and the 4.5 labor hours. Our car broke down on the freeway and we were able to coast our car off and be able to park in front of this shop and park it. Mind you we were on a public street, we weren't even parked on the business property, one of the employees or manager came outside and got on his phone and kept looking at us as he was on his phone and instead of asking us if we needed help, he called his tow truck guy to get us towed!! Luckily our tow truck showed up as his tow guy showed up otherwise it would have been a problem! I don't recommend this place as they are not as honest as someone had said on here, nor are they topnotch service. We did not disrupt his business whatsoever and we were only there about 45 minutes.
