Am I the only one that things it's odd that there are 3 of the same named restaurants on the same corner of our fair city? I get not wanting any competition (or maybe it's that they don't want their customers having to cross a big street?) but c'mon! When a friend says they are meeting you here in the wee hours of the morning- make sure you know which one they are talking about. That aside- this is a burrito place. A giant, $7 burrito with little pieces of steak, cilantro and onions wrapped up in a warm tortilla. And that's it. Period. No mas. (unless you pay extra from a short list of condiments) Or pick a taco, $3.50 each, not as good of a deal as the burrito. The burritos were huge but inconsistent. My friend had one and while his was dry, mine must have had all the pan drippings in it- for one bite later- I had juice of all sorts coming out of my burrito and making it one soggy mess to eat. You better like onions and cilantro for that is really the only flavor here! The interior of the restaurant is nothing to write home about, and the bathrooms were disgusting (so much so my friend told me to not even go in there). The good news? Street parking is plentiful on this stretch of Ashland which makes it an easy late night choice. Something tells me I wasn't drunk enough to eat at this place. As usual, a Mexican restaurant botched Victoria's order. I don't know why, but Mexican + V + KZ = screwed up order. She ordered the chile rellenos dinner and was served two carne asada tacos. HUH? Anyway, I couldn't understand much of what the server was saying, but the tacos were to die for. V really enjoyed her platter once the staff replaced it. I got a stuffed pepper burrito (no meat) and that thing was awesome. I don't normally like green peppers, but it was fantastic. Cheese was good, too. Possibly the best tacos in Chicago. Simple and delicious every time. I've been going to this place for 20 years. Always great service and food. You can't go wrong here. I live on the far north side of Chicago, if I want great authentic Mexican street food, this is always the place I go. I am happy they expanded their menu to include guacamole and chips. It's a great accompaniment to their food. The only drawback is they don't have parking. Since everyone knows this is the place to go, it is sometimes hard to find a parking spot outside. read more

Carne asada, carne asada, carne asada. Salsa verde. This place is the burrito love of my life. When I lived in Indiana, in college, we used to drive up 35 miles just to eat here. Back in the early nineties when this neighborhood was plenty scary. When I moved to Chicago, I did stray a bit. There are other decent burrito places to love but there's nothing like your first. And REALLY, there's nothing like it. Some places come close but these burritos, delicious in their simplicity, are the best. I try to explain to my Florida friends why the refried bean, cheese, crap and ground or re-hashed steak or ground beef burritos are gross but they just don't get it and unless they come eat here, they never will. You know, I think I've been to La Pasadita before, but I must have somehow missed reviewing it. The other thing is, a good friend of mine turned me on to the chile relleno burrito as an amazing option. As a vegetarian, I've usually stuck with a simple veggie burrito. But anway, the chile relleno burrito was great. One thing we talked about afterwards is that it's even better when you put in the beans, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. The one I had only had the relleno, onions, and cilantro. It was my second time coming here and they didn't disappoint me when it comes to their service and food. The staff is very friendly and nice. They will assist and help you in anything you want. If it's your first time here they will help you. You can create your own burrito and tacos that traditionally served with onions and cilantro, you will free to create your own combination of toppings. I couldn't stop eating Guacamole because it was amazing. It was freshly served and had a great flavor and topping. I must say I like the burrito and tacos here. So I recommend this place for you. Don't really understand why they have three locations around this intersection, but this is the northern of the two western locations. This looks to be the tacqueria. Got two huge burritos. Carne asada and barbacoa. Steak and shredded beef with fresh cilantro and white onions. A little salsa verde to jack it up and you're all set. These were fantastic. The barbacoa was a bit overseasoned for me (paprika?). I preferred the carne asada. Again these were both two huge burritos. And yes, for those of you following along, I ate both of them. Awesome food. The food here is really good and very authentic. There are 3 of them within the span of a block, but my favorite is the southernmost one on the west side of Ashland. I've only had the burritos and quesadillas and they were soooo good, I'm craving them right now. I remembered seeing it on Check Please and stopped there once while running errands; I now make special trips just to get my mexican fix. Went into LP today after 3yrs and remembered that the burrito was $12 and change. So i thought i would inquire about a steak torta sandwich, "we dont have tortas" the cashier said. (Im on lunch and a blue collar worker so im trying to get bang for the buck). Somthing about that $12 n change burrito haunts me. So now i see a tostada for $5.50. For 1!!! Tax not included. It was like i was on the "dissapointment train" and couldnt get off! So in an instant my eyes lock on the burrito side of the menu....get ready!!! The burrito. is now $15.50 w/o tax!!!!!!! Lmfao. The local bar scene is the obvious target market. This very well could be the greatest burrito in Chicagoland. It's the best burrito I have ever tasted and that's a bold statement because I've been eating Mexican food from Mexican restaurants for decades. I hear people complain about the price but that's because the food is so good. All I can say; If you're buying a $1 hamburger you know what you're getting. If you want a great burrito just hunker down and pay for it. You've probably washed down 10 beers/drinks that night at $4-$10 bucks a pop and now you're upset about paying more for a great burrito? Some of the best food we've had was street food and hole-in-the-walls, so we were happy to try this place 'cause the realtor suggested it, and she grew up eating this, so she should know. I couldn't figure out which of the 3 clustered on this street was the one we went to, until I saw the street numbers reflected backwards on one of my pictures. So very CSI. And yes, I know how dated I sound. We were disappointed. I've had better from my fav food truck. Cons: The steak was tough and chewy, didn't taste marinated or well-seasoned. Great late night tacos. I've only stopped in here for the tacos, but they were very, very good. If I'm in the area again, I'm back for more.

The service is horrible. Staff at this location is extremely rude. My husband was ridiculed for asking for them to hold tortillas chips. Prices have gone extremely high, but food execution does not match the price. There is no flavor, salsa is bland. Meat is just cooked with no seasoning. Rest rooms are horrible. I told the server there was spilled soap on the floor and she wiped it with bathroom tissue. The cook stopped to use the restroom and put his apron on the garbage, then continued to put it on afterwards to go cook other peoples food. I'm not sure if the restaurant has new owners, because before it was extremely welcoming. Food was phenomenal. Now it feel as if it caters to only a certain group of people. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I have been a loyal customer for many, many years and the way my experience went the other day was rather disappointing to say the least.  The other day my boyfriend called the order in so it would be ready for pick up. He went in to get the order and noticed that he was under charged  for his meal and checked to see if they may have forgot some of the order. He realized the whole order was in the bag and was honest enough to let the cashier know. The cashier re-rang the order and then my boyfriend left. More than halfway home I decide to snack on some of the guacamole I ordered. I look in bag and realize the medium guacamole and the extra sour cream I ordered was not in the bag. Now, I don't know about you, but when I order guacamole and sour cream with my meal I do it for a reason, to eat it with my food! So when I realized neither of those items were I there and I was pretty much home and not to mention it was $5.00 of the bill, I was pretty disappointed. Frustrated at the fact of being charged for something we didn't receive, pretty much almost home, and the reality of having to eat our meal without the fixings we ordered to enjoy it the way we wanted, we decided to turn around and go back to the restaurant. Once we got back to the restaurant I went in and waited to be seen by a cashier who was of medium height, light complexion, and had glasses on. I say that because he refused to give me his name.  When it was my turn I told him in the most polite and un annoyed way as possible, because I do realize people make mistakes. I let him know that I was charged for a medium guacamole and extra sour cream but did not receive it. I also made sure to let him know that it wasn't until I was almost home ready to eat it that I realized this. I mentioned this hoping that maybe he might understand how frustrating of a feeling that may be.  The cashier looked at me and said nothing. He turned around and started to fill a container up with guacamole and then the sour cream. He put it in the bag and said here you go.  Now, call me crazy, but the restaurant industry is a customer service based industry and when ever I've worked customer service I know that at the very least an acknowledgment of the mess up and an apology should be offered to the customer. Am I wrong? Well I didn't get either of those. At that point I was frustrated, so I looked at the cashier and told him I did not want to be charged for the guacamole and sour cream and that I did not think it was fair, especially why the extra trip I had to make back. He looked at me and said "I can't do that." Not even a "sorry, I can't do that." I looked at him and said "really?". He confirmed he couldn't and then I told him well if that's the case I don't want any of my food and I want my money back for the whole order. He said he will not do that and gave me my bag of food back. I then looked at him and told him that I thought it was real unprofessional to not even offer and apology for the messed up order and then to force me to pay for food that I decided I didn't want anymore due to the service. He got an attitude.  I asked him for his name and he refused to give it to me. I then asked to speak to a manager and he says he was one. I then asked for his manager and he said his manager was not there. I asked for a number to contact his manager to make a complaint and he said he could not give that out. I asked what his managers name was and he said "David." After that I realized I was going to get no where with that asshole of an employee and told him that I will be back in the restaurant to talk to someone and will also no longer be coming to that restaurant anymore. He did not seem phased by it at all. So, I am not sure if this employee has received complaints before, or treats customers like this on a regular basis. But if he does its real unfortunate. Again I don't know his name, or even if he lied about his manager being someone named David, I do want to let it be known that the way I was handled as a customer was pretty unprofessional and definitely not customer service like.  Anyway I will no longer be eating from that establishment and will pass the word on! read more

Almost didn't go in based on the outside apperance, I know your not supposed to judge a book by is cover, but it was scary ! Pretty small dining area, and i got pretty busy on a Sunday night. Service wasn't the best, but again they were busy. Food looked amazing and was pretty good. I did love the 3 giant bowls of salsa they brough with he chips ! I had Nachos that were just okay. My friend got 2 steak tacos and 1 chicken, and a dite coke, and she said i was the best $6 meal she's had. I have no idea if I'm rating the correct one of the 3 La Pasadita's on the street, and didn't bother going into the one with an explanation on why. We had three kinds of tacos (carne asada, barbacoa and lingua) and I found the carne asada amazing, whereas the barbacoa was somewhat bland and I didn't actually try the lingua. There may have been another flavor, but I'm pretty sure we would've ordered it. The horchata was somewhat bland, but maybe I'm just confused as to what it's supposed to taste like. The bathroom what you might expect at a place like this. I can't imagine making the trip just for the place, but it's simple, authentic tacos done well. I can't tell you which one of the identical looking location is the original or the best. I just know that it's one of the best drunk food in the city. It is cheap. It is authentically Mexican. It is definitely not gourmet or fancy so it is best in the sense that you don't feel cheated for your money. It's tasty and easy on your wallet. Everyone at work was ravinvg about La Pasadita - they loved it so much that they would walk there in the summer braving the entrance to the expressway, no crosswalks, etc. I finally visited once with a group from work and I could not have been less impressed. My food simply had no flavor. None! It was terrible. I couldn't wait to leave. The spot was grimy and dingy and I tried to avoid looking at the glasses because I'm not sure how I would have felt about their cleanliness. I've been here twice: the first time I got quesadillas ahogadas, which I fell in love with immediately; the second time was for my UYE: Got Tacos? crawl...I got some carne asada and it was just ok. I would definitely have the quesadillas ahogadas again, but then again, I'll probably try making them myself first. I really think they need a wider spread of salsa. Those could have complimented the chips AND tacos better. I don't know...they're just something missing from the salsas.
