Probably the best in Slidell for a traditional awesome breakfast, I definitely recommend La Pines

Eat there 2-3 times per week. Can't go wrong with any menu item. Friendly and courteous wait staff, bartenders, and hostesses.

Weird vibe. Very diverse menu which is always good. Unbeknownst to me, you just seat yourself. Once I sat down, I sat for a good 10 minutes before a server came to me. A table of 5 next to me got frustrated and walked out. My server (young girl) was very friendly but you could tell she was overwhelmed. Other than my server, all of the staff I encountered were pretty standoffish and brash. Almost like they thought they didn't need to be friendly due to their success. Food came out fairly quick after ordering. As for the food...Butter beans were just ok. Fried porkchop was excellent. Cornbread was a very large serving but not good at all. So you smell Bbq when you get out of your car, and you should. I arrived 10 minutes before first closing unintentionally. They were more than happy to accommodate me. I ordered the smoked prime rib po boy and their corn pudding as featured on tvs Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. The corn pudding was outstanding, totally unbelievable. The Poboy was just good. Good smoke flavor but honestly the bread was tough. And I would serve it with a side of aujus. If I lived close by I would stop in regularly. But I live in Michigan. read more

La Pines was a staple for my family and I during my childhood, and I have incredibly fond memories of great staff and delicious food. I personally recommend the French toast, and their hash browns are also fantastic! read more

I went twice and didn't enjoy it. Took my son with me the second time restroom had roaches. Food just wasn't seasoned to my liking or flavorful at all . The service wasn't bad. The place just look like a old diner nothing to bad. read more

We stopped here on our way out of New Orleans. We each had one of the numbered breakfast items. Eggs were cooked perfectly as ordered. French toast was the best I've ever had and taste it almost like you the flavors you would get out of bread pudding - - a New Orleans staple. Service was prompt and friendly. Everything here is amazing!! Especially the service. You're basically family after coming here a few times. The food is consistently great! The ratings of this place are definitely due to Guy Fieri. Overall, the food is comparable to Country Kitchen Buffet. I got the red beans special with fried fish. It was just ok. Kind of bland. The cornbread was so strange. It had almost no flavor. But for $6.99, the red beans were a great deal. My husband got the smoked prime rib sandwich. "Au jus french bread" means that the bread is pre-soggied. The meat was extremely rubbery, and the onions weren't sauteed completely. However, the French fries were great! I doubt we will be back, but that's just because there are so many other places to get better food. read more

I'm not La Pines biggest fan. I know people kind of rave about it, but I've been seriously underwhelmed dining here. I went for breakfast not long ago with the boy who loves bacon more than any person that I know. It was packed and it was only 8 in the morning. All he wanted was bacon and toast. They were out of bacon, the waitress tells me. Really? How in the hell does a restaurant known for their breakfast run out of BACON?! At eight in the morning?! Ummm. Ok. Moving along. I ordered sausage and toast for him instead. I ordered myself my favorite breakfast item ever...eggs over easy. Oh. We are out of eggs the waitress informs me. Uh. WTF? Seriously?! I just didn't order anything for myself because I was sort of disgusted at that point. The coffee was good and the waitress was friendly and apologetic but I was left with a bad impression of the place. I recently dined here again at lunch despite the previous visit and again, was not impressed. I ordered the grilled shrimp poboy and it was very bland. I've made about twenty attempts to eat at this establishment and finally was successful in finding them open. This place is definitely a dive and I was surprised they didn't have any soups or gumbo on the menu. I ordered the smoked prime rib po boy and was eager to satisfy my lunch hunger. When my sandwich arrived I was sad to see that it was only half a po boy but I was happy that it smelled great and tasted good. For the price I really expected a full size po boy and I wanted more of the sandwich as it was tasty. The only big beef I have with this place is they are a Pepsi place instead of a proper Coca-Cola establishment (as Pepsi is for Yankees blah).The service was friendly and attentive and they are mainly open for breakfast and lunch most days during the week and usually open on Thursday and Friday nights. read more

I saw this restaurant on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I just had to come check it out. It definitely is a dive, that's for sure. It's a great little place! Actually we left a day early for our trip just to be able to come. I had seen pictures of the onion rings and I heard they were large. I had no idea that they were THAT LARGE! Look on my picture and use the spoon in the sauce for comparison. I don't have a clue where they get them that big. I got the Prime Rib Poboy. It was so good. I loved the smoked flavor. I also loved driving up and seeing the smoker right out front cooking away. The waitress, Laura, we had was very helpful. Gave us advice on how to eat the sandwich without making too big of a mess. I used about 6 napkins between the onion rings and the sandwich. Laura even got us a drink to go. So glad we came. We are going to try to get back here Sunday morning for breakfast if we can. It's definitely worth checking out. It's a great little dive! Well.... Since lunch was so good on Thursday, we decided to try breakfast on Sunday. It was also very good. Wish I could have eaten more than I did. Everything looked so good. I'm sitting around looking at what everybody has ordered, and it all looked so good. I finally ordered grits, sausage biscuit, and hash browns. It was all very good. My husband got Cajun Eggs Benedict. It was crab cakes and poached eggs on a bed of hash browns, covered with Hollandaise sauce. He loved it. Again we had great service and wonderful service in this amazing little Dive. Stopped in with my family for breakfast and had a magical experience. The prices are great. The atmosphere is ~homey~. Our waitress was very kind and seemed like she had worked there for years. I ordered the country eggs benedict (biscuits with sausage gravy, sausage patties, and poached eggs) and my goodness it was good. Would not recommend this place for anyone on a diet because many of the menu items are coated in gravy but that is what makes this place so delicious. Also! I had the best pancake I have ever had in my 22 years of living. 10/10 would recommend. Good prices. Good service. Fantastic food. read more

In Slidell for business, randomy found this place which turned out extrememely well for us :) The food: We came here for breakfast. I got the shrimp omelette which is a shrimp and cheese omelette topped off with a roux based sauce with crawfish. It was a nice hearty start to the morning. Their grits are nice and toothsome especially with some butter. My wife got the number 4 special which I believe is a short stack of pancakes with corned beef hash. The hash is so-so, pancakes are pretty good. The coffee however, was a bit dilute. The ambiance: a small town dive feel with very casual decor and simple furniture. Seems to be mostly locals here who know each other. Very down-home feel, I love it. Parking: a bit limited, but people are always coming and going Overall: pretty deserving for a feature on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Stop by if you are anywhere north of New Orleans! read more

They are always busy. Tables are close together so it makes it difficult to get around the other guests. I had heard from others that they had really good breakfast but I found that to me they were just average. The service was fair unless you are a regular where they are practically running for them. I found it hard to get a refill of coffee even if she was at the next table. I'm not suggesting that you go elsewhere but I would recommend waiting a bit later for breakfast or go early to lunch so your service is better and maybe the food is better too. read more

Good mom and pop place to come get breakfast. It was also featured on diners, drive Ins and dives. I could say this counts as a dive. If you are coming on the weekend, know that they only serve breakfast. I am not really a breakfast person so I was disappointed with that. The food is great and everyone working is very sweet. Found this little cafe by accident and glad we did. The seafood omelet and soft shell crab Benedict on a Saturday morning were amazing, friendly service and many other great menu items. I had high hopes for this place and intended to go at breakfast but only made it to and unusually early lunch time. The fact that I couldn't order breakfast made me a bit bitter... Unlike their pleasant coffee. Though at the time I wouldn't have minded retrying it the bf was unsatisfied and I eventually got there. I got a grilled shrimp po-boy. HOLY SALT. So salty. I'm so glad we found this place! We found it on the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives website while on a road trip. The wait staff was super friendly! Our waitress said that she has worked there for 12 years. She knew almost everyone that came in and was so nice to us. We felt right at home! The food was INCREDIBLE! I had the cajun benedict which was the benedict on a crab cake. It was excellent. My husband had the shrimp omelette...and oh my gosh the sauce on it was absolutely fantastic! I have been here several times since I moved to Slidell, and it has been an awesome experience every time. That says a lot because my first choice is usually to try something new, but I just keep coming back. This has become my new favorite place for breakfast. Lunch is pretty good too. The price is great and the waitresses have always been friendly. The portions are large! Some of my favorites: pancakes, homefries, country skillet, biscuits and gravy, cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, au gratin potatoes, corn pudding, and of course the prime rib po' boy. Maybe next time I'll get out of my comfort zone and go for some traditional Louisiana cuisine! read more

Not sure why so many people flock to this place. Very skimpy with the amount of food you pay for. Got a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich which was pretty pricey and it included 3 pieces of thin cut bacon. The bacon was enough for a half of a sandwich. read more
