This was once a good restaurant with great customer service. Not anymore. Was there with a party of 11 this past Friday and it took forever to order drinks and food. At one point we asked the waitress if they can make a certain drink. Ten minutes later when we finally flagged her down, we asked if the bartender can make the drink. She replied with "I haven't even asked yet". In the end we figured out why the service was so terrible - the restaurant already included her tip due to the size of our group. Not going back. No one asked how our food was, when we asked for boxes for carry out, instead of helping us - she just handed a mess of boxes and walked away. No manager ever asked if we were ok. We were the largest group they had for the two hours we were there and treated like third class people. Don't go. Man, has La Pita gone downhill! This used to be my go to lunch spot, but it fell out of the rotation for over a year. I went there for dinner tonight, and was shocked at the difference. One diner's plate was served cold, both the main and the rice side. We looked around for the waitress, but she had dropped the plates off and disappeared. It was about 10 minutes before we were able to flag her down. Once she took the plate back to the kitchen, now completely room temp food, she returned in record time. I mean, she was back with the plate in less than 2 minutes. The food was now hot, particularly in the center. Meaning 90 seconds in the microwave. So we were eating our own reheated leftovers. Nice. Another entree was the Halloumi and Beet Salad. This was a large salad bowl full of arugula, topped with onion slivers, and four tomato rounds. Atop each round was a thin rectangle of cheese. In the center of the salad was a small hill of beet. Proportion was 90% arugula, 5% onion, 3% tomato, and 1% halloumi and beet. If I order chicken salad, I expect "chicken" to be the main ingredient. If I order a Halloumi and Beet Salad, I expect much, much more of those ingredients than were in this salad. The baba was good, as you would expect. But I won't be going back anytime soon. Although there was about a dozen people ahead of me, waiting to be seated, the hostess promptly took me to a table squeezed between a party of 8 and a couple out on a date. Then the waitress came over, taking my order: raw juice and the vegetarian ghallaba with a dinner salad.. V4 juice: excellent as it should be for $3.75 Dinner salad: excellent although portion smaller than the original LA SHISH. Vegetarian Ghallaba: disappointing, kind of watery, not enough spices. Rice was good but it was more than 1/2 the plate. At $13.99, I'd expect a lot of veggies. $8.99 will get you a zestier, larger portion of V.Ghallaba at Al Ameer. Pita chips served: excellent Waitress hesitatingly asked if I wanted bread, "of course", I wanted bread. Some of the loaves were burned. Why is this with so many middle eastern restaurants? The place didn't seem quite so busy as others have mentioned. Maybe it's the economy or the prices at LA PITA. The waitress was attentive and all was going well with the meal UNTIL....the two parties dining on either side of me, both left at about the same time. Then rushed over the bus guy with a can of AEROSOL cleaner spraying it all over the table immediately next to mine. It smelled like the industrial cleaner we use on some of the machines at work. That's not a good thing to smell when eating any kind of food. Shortly after spraying down the one table, he went to town on the other table. This killed a 3 1/2 star rating to a 2. I crave this food! Absolutely amazing. Nothing in the area compares. Their lunch portions are the perfect size. If you get a dinner size you can definitely share it between 2 people. The hummus is a must! They give you pita bread and garlic butter as an appetizer. I highly recommend mixing the garlic butter and hummus-- so good! I have had them cater before and they did an awesome job with that as well! If you are picky like me and only like Coke.. They have cans of coke products for purchase (no free refills-understandably) and Pepsi products on tap. I go here like once a week! read more

I've been to this place twice; once for dinner and once for a late lunch. The first time I went I had the vegetarian platter so I could sample the hummus, baba ghanoush, grape leaves, falafel, etc. I quickly discovered that I really liked their baba ghanoush. The price was right for everything we ordered. The service was prompt. They come and bring you a basket of piping hot pitas to go with your dinner. The second time I went I had the chicken kafta sandwich. This was delicious, filling, and reasonably priced. I also split a side order (a small) of baba ghanoush with my husband, which tasted so fresh and delicious when paired with the pitas. Their interior is very unique, with booths replete with curtains....you feel like you are in another very relaxing world when you dine here. I love the look of this place! The raised private booths with curtains makes you feel as if you are in your own private bazaar! I have been here for lunch many a times...this was my first dinner experience. We happened to be there the same night John "spider" Salley was...but he was heading the the smokey cigar lounge. I like that they give you pita chips...most places do not bother. It is a nice touch. They are a bit greasy for me though. They have the bread that is circular and puffy...just like the former LaShish but less sesame. Dip it in the olive oil or hold out for your toum, baba or hummus...if you can resist the hot and fresh out of the oven baked goodness. I adore a good smokey baba and they have it! Kuddos! Potions are huge! Personal meals are huge as are the combos platters for two. I like my meat very lean and the chicken shwarma had a lot of fat on it. Yuck. Stick with the kabobs. The steak shwarma was good and not fatty at all. I wish the salad had more zumac on it.... They really bummed me out that they changed their rice recipe. They used to have the bomb-diggity rice, chock full of raw whole unblanched almonds....tons of almonds, no scrimping. This time they had silvered almonds and not that many:-( The lady across from us ordered what I am guessing to be Turkish coffee or tea. The pot was super cool with a long handle. In a city with tons of middle eastern restaurants, this one does nothing to stand apart from the pack. The food is fine, but standard. The most interesting thing I had was the Cream of Asparagus soup, mostly because most such restaurants wouldn't have it. They do give you a ton of pita bread and pita chips, but strangely you don't get anything to dip them in unless you pay for it. So I bought the garlic dip for $3, which was the same as every other garlic dip I've had. The worst part, for me, was that I ordered (and paid for) the vegetarian combo #2, but received combo #1 (which is a few bucks cheaper and doesn't include falafel). We came here very late during Ramadan. I don't know if that is the reason but the amount of food served was truly astonishing! We had so much for five people that we had a dinner with the leftovers in our room the next day. Our server was a little scattered but perhaps she had been fasting all day. The food: Appetizer sampler platter: Hummous, baba ganouj, and tabbouleh with totally yummy pita, homemade and fresh. All delicious and scarfed down in record time. Chicken barley cilantro soup - good. Salads, house- my daughter thought they were perfect. Not Mediterranean but for that could have picked another option. Kufta kabobs - lamb were delicious, ground chicken seemed dry,not quite as good. Schwarma- chicken and beef. Both dry. Chicken tastier. Rice pilaf- to die for. We ate on the patio which was pleasant. I love the food at La Pita, and the staff are always gracious and welcoming... which is why I give it 5 stars! I went for a take out order, yesterday and the cigar smoke is atrocious! You can't help but notice it the second you walk in the doors. I will get take out from here from now on, but will probably not eat-in anymore.... = ( I have never noticed the smoke smell before, maybe there was just a large group in the cigar room previous to my visit, but seriously... it was nasty. read more

This was my first time to La Pita, and I am very disappointed. My wife and I ordered a chicken shawarma plate and a vegetable grape leave plate. My wife is a vegetarian so she cannot eat meat, and of course the server mistakes the grape leaves for a meat one. My wife ate from it then sent it back for vegetable one. Also, both our plates came out cold and the service wasn't on point. Overall I really hated dining here and will never come back again. Work on your food, service, and professionalism, because that's what people go out to eat for. read more

Great choice for dinner!! Not too busy around 5pm on Friday, we were seated right away! Nice roomy booth. Hostess greeted us with a smile. Our server Kristen was at our table right away with beverages! We were immediately brought warm pita bread and fried pita bites with Mediterranean spices!! Super yummy, make sure to save the pita bites if you're ordering hummus or baba ghannouge! Makes for better dipping then the pita bread. You can make a meal out of the two with the whole pita bread too!!! We started with hummus and baba ghannouge. Both were fresh and delicious. The baba ghannouge was especially awesome. For main meal had whole deboned chicken with side of fattouch, chargrilled herb potato's and almond rice. Also a khafta kabob sandwich and a falafel sandwich. The deboned chicken was a very healthy portion. We had leftovers for the next day!! Rice and potato's were also good!! Sandwiches were fresh and good!! Falafel had a little spicy kick to it, also wish the sandwich had been pressed in toaster like the beef khafta sandwich, because it immediately fell apart upon picking it up...but the flavor were good nonetheless!! Went here on a busy Thursday with a client; not sure what the poor reviews are about. Service was slow, true, but the food was very good. Hummus: A little too much Tahini Mango Smoothie: Missing a key ingredient: Mango taste. A little too much strawberry. Shish Tawook: Yummy. Chicken was tender, garlic sauce good. Let's just say leaving this place you will be smelling like garlic and will be super full (but in a good way!) They start you off with amazing warm pita bread and make sure to order a side of garlic sauce with it! You won't regret it. My mom, sister, and I decided to share a large fattoush salad and we each got a chicken schwarma wrap. We couldn't finish the salad and each only ate half of our wraps. Good for leftovers later! Only reason why I don't give this place 5 out if 5 stars is because our waitress kinda disappeared for awhile and we could not get her attention when she finally did become visible. It's already been said, but I miss the old LaPita. 8 years ago, living in Dearborn, and been a huge fan of Middle-Eastern Cuisine. LaPita was hands down the best around. The shawarma was so tender and delicious, the service was extremely friendly and reliable, and the prices were reasonable. Now it's more of a "fancy" atmosphere and the prices have gone up as far as 5 dollars on some of the dishes. The wait staff sometimes almost gets downright rude, and personally, I hate calling for them. They should at least check up every once in a while. That being said LaPita still has the best shish tawook, hot round pita bread, and smoothies around. The smoothies are almost worth going for alone. Also, I think that the Tabbouleh salad is the stand out. The baked kibbie is excellent too. In conclusion, I think we all wish the old LaPita was still around, but the food is still decent, and the smoothies are incredible. read more

Whether you're a Middle Eastern cuisine veteran or trying it for the first time, this place is a right of passage if you're in the Dearborn area. The wait staff is incredibly accommodating and the food is always perfect prepared. The warm bread placed on the table at the start of the meal is best dipped in some of their hummus or the earth shattering garlic sauce. My recommendations include the fattouch salad and the spicy chicken man-ushu. You also can't go wrong with any of the shawarmas. Or anything else on the menu, for that matter. What a disappointment. Looking over the reviews I expected so much more. The food was almost tasteless. Of all the meats, only the ground chicken seemed to have any seasoning whatsoever. Not sure if this is more "authentic" than the restaurants with delicious middle-eastern food but it certainly was not to my taste. Details- we had a combo for two. The ground chicken kabob was excellent. The baba ganoush was pretty good. The houmus was nothing special, maybe it would be ok elsewhere, but not by Dearborn standards. The lamb kabob, chicken kabob and ground meat were all tasteless. The platter did come with grilled vegetables which most local places I have been seem to no include. This is one of the two restaurants in Dearborn that remind me of the old La Shish --- the food is authentic enough and decor / service good enough to attract corporate lunching crowds from nearby. Also the type of place you'd take uninitiated (as in, for Lebanese or other middle eastern food) to his/her first try. Excellent fresh pita bread; ask for the garlic sauce (toum). You also get complimentary pita chips in addition to the bread. Menu is pretty "standard"' compared to other middle eastern restaurants in Dearborn. You won't find tongues or brains on the menu, but all the "usuals" are there plus a few adopted dishes (like salmon) for people who won't eat any middle eastern food in a a middle eastern restaurant. Came on a Saturday after shopping down the street at Dearborn Music. A friends recommendation was spot on. Started with the kibbee and wow is all I can say, best kibbee nee I've ever had. The appetizer was enough for an entire meal. Next I ordered the surf and turf, jumbo grilled shrimp with lamb chops. My go to restaurant for Middle Eastern food. I like the decor, the tables with curtains and pretty lamps, and I love the food. I've had a lot from their menu and I've never been disappointed. My friends and I usually come here for birthdays and we have always felt welcome and our waitress has always been kind, even when we ask her to take our picture. I have experienced a good waitstaff every time I've been. Sometimes we go just to have some of their Turkish Coffee, which is rich and delicious. We stopped in for the first time for lunch today and were not diappointed. My better half had the fattoush salad. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered the falafel and we both split the hummus. Everything was tasty and plentiful. Service was very good and we were seated in one of the booths along the outside wall. They have a lounge next door. This by far is the best Middle Eastern food that I've had in a long time. They serve incredible fresh homemade pita that holds your food without leaking and is incredibly tasty, right out of the oven. The kabobs we had were char grilled and cooked perfectly. The waitstaff was efficient and friendly. None of our refillables ever got empty. Normally when we travel we try to have every meal at a different place, but we decided to go back for lunch the next day. The garlic lamb appetizer was extremely garlicky just the way I like it. I asked for extra pickled turnips with my falafel and they brought it no problem, and the pickled turnips were these big gorgeous chunks. Not the 2 tiny slices most places give. read more

I went with three friends (locals) who had never been to La Pita, each with their own personal selection of favorite Middle Eastern places in the city, so we were all curious to see our reactions, plus mine, an outsider's point of view. It was very good, but ... I guess the problem, particularly for my friends, is the high-standard they have for Middle Eastern food in Detroit in general. It's not to say this place wasn't good or even very good. But the best in the city? No. We pulled in on a Saturday night. The parking lot was flooded with humanity. Though this was a good sign, it made parking somewhat problematic. We hopped inside and were quickly seated in our own booth. There's a whole row of elevated booths in the main dining area. The view is great, though its elevation makes you feel like you should be judging all staff and customers. Which we might have :) The service was a bit ... off. Our waitress, though pleasant, seemed very flustered and thus seemed awkward at times. To any Yelpers with nut allergies: BE CAREFUL! There's a tendency to use a lot of nuts, especially pine nuts. It's even in their preparations of hommous and baba ghannouge. Of the few dishes I had, the grape leaves were quite good, addictive in fact. Their sausage, a lamb spiced with a special combination of seasoning, was tasty, but a bit on the dry side. Their fool (broiled fava beans mixed with garlic lemon) was my favorite dish of the night: simple but unique. We ordered the LaPita Mixed Grill, which included chicken kabob, lamb kafta, and shish kabob. Again, very good, but the meats were perhaps a tad overcooked and, again, nothing extraordinary. Be wary, these are generous portions. Not just the entree, but even the appetizers. GENEROUS. An attempt to under-order will likely lead to leftovers. Just sayin'. I was hoping to have my mind blown and my life changed. That didn't happen. Perhaps we set our standards too high? I don't know if it's that. This is no doubt good food. This is a very nice restaurant tucked away from the main street. It's well worth the visit! We started with a large hummus, which was served with delicious pitas. I couldn't stop eating them, they were so delicious! For dinner, I ordered a spicy chicken pita sandwich. It was actually served on a french baguette, even though I didn't order it that way... but I really liked it. Just the right amount of crispiness and spice. My husband ordered lamb chops, which he really enjoyed. My mother-in-law and sister each had the Vegetarian Combo #2, which was more than enough food to take home. Starving after a day of travel, I ordered delivery and honestly picked La Pita because it was one of the first options I saw (and wasn't fast food). I was so impressed with how well the meal was delivered, hot, fresh and with each component - entree, salad and bread - packaged perfectly. Long time drive by, first time eater! Went to LaPita about... 20 minutes for lunch with co-workers and I can say it was a very nice experience. Cool spot parallel to Michigan Avenue and a comfortable setting. It was busy for lunch and the service was decent. Being a former server myself, I can accept the "rushing" around trying to make sure the "Suits" get their lunches and back to the office in under an hour. So our service coulda been better, but I understand the circumstances! The food was very well done and tasty! I had a BBQ Chicken Baguette and it was tender and tasty. Perfect spot for a nice lunch! Way back when I lived in the D and had the good fortune to be surrounded by a plethora of Lebanese and other Middle Eastern restaurants, I was actually able to take the food for granted and would feel the need to take a break from it. The horror. Fast forward to now. I live about 700 miles away from blessed Dearborn, and don't get a chance to visit often, and that makes me pine for hot pita pillows and garlic sauce. I begged my friends to Do Pita on one of my last visits to town, and I was sooo glad that the joint did not disappoint. Everything was perfection. We had about 5 rounds of pita and hummus before actually getting to the meal, which is always the way to make my tummy happy. The fattoush is proper and fresh. The chicken shawarma and the rice are on point. But it's the SAUCE, people, the GARLIC SAUCE that brought it on home for me. Oh, lawdy! read more

I loved the pita bread with the sesame seeds that they serve when you first get there! It's amazing! I got the Kafta Kabab platter (the lunch portion) and was not disappointed. I think it's great they serve lunch portions all day. It was the perfect amount of food because I was not too stuffed and I didn't have any leftovers! And all for $10! My meal came with hummus, two kababs, rice and salad. The hummus could have been better, but the kababs were on point. I would definitely go back...especially for that pita bread :) read more
