We were treated so poorly that we left before we ordered and came to La Pizzeria instead. We couldn't have made a better decision!!!!! From the moment we walked in, the host, waitress, owner, and even the person cleaning the tables were extremely gracious and kind to us. After I gave the host my name, the staff remembered it and frequently said my name throughout the meal. This is AUTHENTIC ITALIAN food. It's truly amazing, and there's nothing like it. When they heard about the poor service we received from the other restaurant in town, they apologized to us and gave us a free loaf of their Italian bread. Who does that?!!! I'm from NJ. My mother was born in Brooklyn. I grew up where pizza is as common as water. Then I moved to Los Angeles. Where they do, in fact, blame bad pizza on the water. And for 18 years, I had almost nothing even resembling pizza. So after driving across the country in 2 cars with 4 dogs and 2 birds and leftover bagels from LA, we all fell out of the car. in Mt. Pleasant. Which is, in fact, quite pleasant. Almost instantly, my dog ate a sego palm seed -- which FYI is poisonous -- and spent the night in the emergency hospital. So by the time day 3 rolled around, pizza sounded pretty damn good. Someone recommended La Pizzeria and honestly by that point I would have eaten wood but this was around the corner... And it was really really good. VERY good. We got the white pizza with some vegetables my friend insisted on, and I ate it so fast the whole thing is a blur. It was a little pricey compared to New Jersey pizza but it was excellent and huge. And now I won't even try another pizza place here. So there you have it. read more

I feel so sad writing this review as we have loved their food since they opened ~8 years ago. This evening, we waited over 40 mins just to get apps and had to cancel our mains. We were blamed for this wait based on what we ordered by the manager as to why it took so long. The table behind us got both their apps and dinner while we were waiting. For example my order today was supposed to be ready for pick in "45-60 minutes". Italian comfort food served in this busy Mt P. restaurant. This small business is run like a fine tuned machine. The host greeted guests by name. The service staff is friendly and makes great recommendations, backed up by a food runner and busser that never missed a detail during a weekend dinner service. Very impressive. And then there's the pizza. We chose thin crust Napoletana, served hot and stayed hot. This is my new standard for this type of pizza. I suspect it will be hard to beat. Perfect crust, sauce, and toppings. We started with fresh salads topped with delicious dressings. We enjoyed two types of Italian beers and finished with the dreamiest homemade Tiramisu. The only reason this place deserves one star is for the pizza which is decent. I got an order of chicken parm which was a chicken nugget or a heated up piece of frozen chicken. They drizzled it with a little bit of their sauce which is sour and acidic. I also ordered the pasta bolognese which was basically taco meat mixed in with some overcooked pasta. For 50$ I could have went to dominos and had a better experience. I understand this is charleston and authentic Italian food is sparse but this fell way below my already low bar. read more

Well dang I had really been snoozing on this one! I've lived near La Pizzeria for about 5 years and only just now finally made it over. Saturday night we knew we wanted pizza but weren't quite sure exactly where to order from, so we decided to give La Pizzeria a takeout try. Called in an order for garlic knots, an 18" brooklyn bridge (double pepperoni) pizza and tiramisu. They gave me a pickup time of 30/45 minutes - as soon as I pulled up, I knew we'd made the right choice; there was a line out the door! Fortunately, most of my fellow queuers were also there picking up, so it moved quickly. The staff was so friendly, checking in with the line with each new arrival to ensure they were quickly seating anyone who was dining in. I was able to get my pizza in less than 10 minutes of waiting, while the gentleman manning the desk deftly fielded more phone orders and kept the line moving. Back home with the grub, we were quick to dig in. The garlic knots were a decent appetizer - not quite garlicky enough for my liking, but I think that might be a me problem, as I am flavor obsessed ;) The marinara the knots were served with was cold, which the microwave quickly fixed - but I am not sure what the intention was there. The pizza was delicious thin crust goodness, cheesy without being overly greasy and fantastic portion size for the price. The tiramisu had a slight lemon flavor, which I am not sure was intentional or a result of being close by other desserts in the refrigerated case - it was a bit cakey for my taste and would've benefited from a bit more coffee liqueur; but we had no trouble finishing every last bite. Already plotting a return trip to ensure we try the Sicilian thick crust pizza option, some of these epic sounding pasta bowls, as well as a dine-in experience. Che bella! read more

Every time I'm in Mount Pleasant/Charleston, visiting La Pizzeria is an absolute must! I've been coming to Mount Pleasant since 2018 to see my neurosurgeon at MUSC, and the staff at La Pizzeria still remember me. The pizza is incredibly delicious and not heavy, perfect given the warmth and humidity in the area. Among the things I love most about La Pizzeria is the ambiance. First, you need to know that I grew up deep in the bowels of pizza country, and this is, no joke, really great pizza. Seriously. I loved it, and I'm pretty shocked that I found pizza this good in the South. Specifically, the crust on this pie is unusually, almost suspiciously fantastic. Plenty of places up north don't have crust this good. The reason for the 3 stars, in short, is that I chose to eat in the place instead of ordering my pizza to go. This place could probably get 5 stars if a) they make their front of house service staff way, way less awkward, or b) get rid of the restaurant altogether and offer pickup/delivery only. The pizza by itself is 5 stars. When I walked in, I expected a pizza place, and I didn't get that at all. I got a host. An awkward teenager host who seemed to not know that he was working in a pizza place. Let me just say that, when your customers expect a pizza place & get a restaurant, it's super awkward and very annoying. I CAN SEE THE ORDER COUNTER RIGHT THERE! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! So, I finally convinced the gatekeeper that I just want a couple of slices, and he says "Ok, you can order your pizza right there at the counter". Shocking insight. I get my pizza, but now I'm confused and feel the need to ask permission to do things that are totally normal in a pizza place, like get a coke from the fridge, pay at the counter, and sit at a table. I was all like "Can I just get a Coke from here?", "Do I pay here?", "Can I sit here?" By the time I was actually sitting and eating, I was emotionally confused. Half of me was overwhelmed by how good this pizza was. The other half was completely annoyed and frustrated by the gnat of a restaurant host who'd been misplaced in a pizza place. I don't blame the host, though. This is a management problem. Either train your staff to not be awkward, or create a separate entrance that lets people bypass the whole red carpet treatment. The host had absolutely no idea what he was doing. I asked how long the wait for our group would be and he said he didn't know. That was the most negative part of our experience - and not a great first impression. That being said, the food was delicious. Highly recommend anything on the specials list and any of the pizzas. Pasta Sunday always occasions pasta at home or out somewhere and that somewhere happened to be La Pizzeria. It was quite busy that Sunday evening and we had to wait outside for 15 or 20 minutes but once seated service was very good. We started with a Caprese Salad, tomato, basil and Buffalo Mozzarella with a drizzle of EVOO, no complaints it was the perfect starter. My son ordered Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti and I selected the Linguine Alla Vongole Bianco. We were more than satisfied with our respective entrees, but we both had to admit that back home the Italian restaurants have a certain "je ne sais quoi" that kicks it over the top and into the end zone. Nothing beats great customer service. Here is where you'll find it. My assumption was this was just a pizzeria. It's much more than that. Great Italian meals on their menu. Looking forward to trying these on our next visit. We ordered a simple Marguerite pizza with fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. We added pepperoni. It was very good. The inside is small but well decorated and definitely gives off a nice Italian ambiance. Even though they were having issues with staffing like most restaurants post-pandemic, the waitstaff was friendly and efficient. Slightly quirky in that water is served as $1 Dasani bottle versus free tap water. We started off ordering garlic knots which were tasty but probably not needed since bread and dipping olive oil are included with your meal. The small house salad is probably the smallest I've ever seen at a restaurant. I was disappointed with their pepperoni pizza. It was extremely greasy and had just average tasting cheese and sauce. You can order whole pizzas or grab a slice of one of the already made pies on display. They've always got at least 5 types to choose from. While I've liked all the ones I've tried, the Margherita and Bianco pizzas are my favorite. The cheese is just,...oh it's good. You have probably driven past La Pizzeria in Mount Pleasant many times without knowing it's some of the best Italian food in town. La Pizzeria is tucked away in some shops off of Coleman Blvd and Houston Northcutt Blvd. But it could just as easily be in the North End of Boston. What it lacks in space it makes up for with some great food. Start off with the Antipasto della Casa or the Bruschetta di Salsiccia. Caprese salad is enough for two. Then you've got some serious decisions to make. Pasta? Sandwich? Pizza? And pace yourself to leave room for dessert. Spaghetti with marinara sauce is simple and delicious. The chicken or veal parmigiana are good if you're looking for something more carnivorous. The lasagna bolognese is my go to dish unless there's a special too good to pass up. The pizza at La Pizzeria is hands down the best pie in Charleston. It's as if they fly in the dough from the Northeast or something. The Margherita and Aloha pizzas are our favourites. There are some kid friendly options with pasta or pizza too. Service is always good whether you're the first ones there or the place is jam packed. Worth noting that they do a good take away as well. Just make a call when you're in the area. A whole pizza or some different slices are way better than the chain pizza shops. I had the pleasure of having dinner with three friends from Italy at La Pizzeria, so this review is based on their authentic opinion - and Italians are very strict when it comes to their food. The location is decent, enough parking outside, cozy interior. Overall this place feels rather cramped however. We were a total of four people and two tables had to be moved together to make space for our medium sized (which is very large) pizzas. So this is not a place to go with a bigger crowd. Consequently, we saw mostly couples. Although the owner and her son are authentic Italians, the waiters are all Americans. This was somewhat funny as my Italian friends shook their heads several times in a disappointed manner when our waiter (who looked like a lumberjack) told them about the different sorts of gelato (they did not approve) and had to explain to them that the limoncello they offered was without alcohol (this really hurt my Italian friends, they told me you would go to prison for this in Italy). While our waiter was very nice, he was also a bit negligent; he did not stop by too often but rather walked past us. It also took some time to get the checks. Service overall was average. My Italian friends gave mixed reviews regarding the pizza. Some they liked (the prosciutto), most were very average to them. It was fascinating to watch them taste small mistakes in an authentic Italian pizza: there shouldn't be any garlic, there needs to be more mozzarella, ... I liked my prosciutto pizza, but they opened my eyes to the numerous things that went wrong for it to be authentic Italian pizza. Although my friends were actually in the mood for dessert, the offered choices did not convince them, so we opted for espresso. This took some time again. My friends love espresso (but they only trust their nespresso machine, inside scoop) but were very disappointed. They simultaneously stated that the machine definitely should be cleaned. And they were right, the espresso was very bitter (not like it should be bitter) and without a clear soul. Again not impressed. Overall, my Italien friends rated this place as very average and I concur, as the mix of mediocre food and service warrants only 3 stars. On a sidenote, if I were an authentic Italian running a restaurant in South Carolina and three very nice Italian people would come into my restaurant on a not too busy night and delightedly greet me in Italian, I would probably give them a warmer welcome and maybe a little authentic treat in between to show them they're welcome. read more

Mom and I were out shopping today and after my score at a fabulous local consignment shop around the corner from the new cookie place that will make me gain 5lbs over this holiday, I needed some lunch. White pizza, mushroom and pepper, pepperoni, sausage and tomato, margherita, just cheese...I asked which was his favorite and instantly heard "Margherita!" That's what I'd been eyeing, so, sold. It was delicious (see pic)- great crust, good mozzarella, good char and a judiciously plentiful amount of basil. This is an Antico-esque (can't say it's exactly as good but it's in the same vein) kind of pizza.
