1st, I should tell you that this review comes from someone who LOVES Pizza and Resultant bars and is a real Pizza and Resultant coinsure. You could say I have a PhD in Pizza and and Resultant bars. This restaurant has the worse customer service imaginable. And when you bring it to the attention of the management that their staff members are being rude, they will give you a LIE and insult you further as the reason for why their staff member has been rude. On top of that their Pizza is mediocre and way too expensive for its quality and size. But as disappointing and over priced their pizza is, it is how horribly they treat their customers which is truly the worse. AVOID this place like a Plague and spend your hard earned money were they treat their clienteles with respect and dignity. Solid option for pizza and apps! Elevated but not stuffy. The staff were helpful and accommodating. Mostly high tops inside and some patio seating. Location off the main road with "tucked-away feel. Building itself looks bright and new with a similar ambience. Staff were friendly and informative. Cocktails were delicious. Choice of four different oysters: I ordered the local catch. Also delicious but small (I had been forewarned) and reasonably priced (under $4 ). My husband and I were looking to try a new pizza place and decided to dine at Wood & Grain. Our server was great, the restaurant was quite busy and it took a bit to get a soda. We ordered pizza, but it was dry, not enough cheese, the crust was a bit burnt. I also had their veggie and beet sala and it was very good. I don't think we will be returning for pizza at this spot. Our new favorite date night spot. We went on a Friday night around 6:30pm and were sat outside on the patio immediately. It's definitely a smaller space but loved that they had an outdoor option. We got the broccolini app to start and it might have been our favorite bite all night. My husband talked about it all week. They were also willing to make it nut free to accommodate our allergens which we always appreciate! For our entrees with did the bacon and Gorgonzola pizza as well as the fennel sausage pizza (substituted spinach for kale). Both were delish but the bacon Gorgonzola was for sure the winner. If I could give 7 stars, I would. We went to celebrate our 21st anniversary and were treated like royalty. Chef Aaron came out to congratulate my wife and I and then prepared a meal fit for a king and queen. The superb roasted oysters special was next level. The lobster roll was absolutely delicious. Ordered a Margherita pizza for carryout tonight. The pizza was tasty enough, but the weren't any tomatoes on it and it wasn't exactly memorable. I would have given a 4 star rating, but when I arrived, I could see my pizza was sitting out on a counter by the front window with absolutely no attempt to keep it warm. My best friend and I go to Wood and Grain at least twice a month. Last night, our experience was unlike any other before. (Bare with me here) We got a bottle of wine, and two of every oyster from the north east (to decide which ones we wanted) along with the Wood fire oysters on the normal menu. When the raw oysters came out, we clarified with the waitress which ones were which. So when she came back, we pointed at the oysters and said we wanted the small petite cup ones and now we wanted the SPECIALTY wood fired oysters. It starts with the same wood fired oysters from before were dropped off. Those were wrong. Then they bring out the raw oysters which are large cups and clearly not the same ones from before. We don't eat the woodfired ones or the raw ones until we speak to our waitress and she tells us that there's nothing she can do about it because they're on the table them when we told her specifically which ones we wanted. She offered us a free salad or pizza. So we said the salad was fine for HER mess up (still annoyed about the oysters). The bartender dropped off the salad and asked us how we were and I told him we were really disappointed with what just happened because it was not our fault she put in the wrong oysters. He asked us how he could fix it and we were like it's OK. He insisted so he made us two espresso martinis and put in a order for the right specialty wood fire oysters. I have some of the raw oysters because my friend didn't like them and we were told that we still had to pay for them. Our waitress walks by and says to us in a condescending tone "Well looks like you enjoyed your oysters anyways." We were so shook that she just said that to us we couldn't believe it. We still stayed and ordered dessert which is fine. She brings us the check in charged us for the wrong woodfired oysters and the specialty oysters. I asked her about it and she tells us that we have to pay for all of them (even though this was her mistake) or she is going to charge us for the espresso martinis and the salad that were offered to us. We were not rude to her. We were kind to her. We paid it. It is what it is but at the end of the day the hospitality here was absolutely shocking, and we don't know if we'll ever be back after last night. 2/10/18 ... What a difference! We loved the quick, comfortable high top seating (away from the door). Our friendly, helpful server, Leyla, immediately set the tone for a positive experience. Joe really enjoyed the charred and very generous portion of octopus, served in a deep bowl with romesco and tender butter beans. My half pound of chilled peel and eat (jumbo) shrimp did not disappoint ... plump and tender with just a hint of seasoning and two yummy sauces ... delish! The baby kale salad with wood-roasted mushrooms, lemon reggiano and thyme was refreshing and a break from my usual Caesar. The portion, filling an entire (soup -sized) bowl was plenty for us to share. I (still) was not impressed with the pizza, this time, topped with Bacon and Gorgonzola. The meat was scant and the pieces, not larger than crumbles. We'll be back! Next time, I'm checking out the Eggplant Parm, a new menu addition. 1st Visit It was Joe who actually suggested that we check out W & G after all, we love Langdon's and Opal, the other restaurants in the Owens Dining Group. Not finding any mention of reservations on-line, I called mid afternoon (yes, someone picked up the call!) and was told that reservations were not taken and that table service started at 4:00 pm. As we often skip lunch on Saturday opting to dine early we arrived at 4:30 pm and was seated right away at the one table for two by the window. Our server, Erin, stricken with laryngitis, struggled to be heard above the blasting Motown era playlist as she explained that while 'table service' started at 4:00 pm, the only menu options available before 5:00 pm were beverages or from the raw bar. OK, though I was craving a Caesar, I was hungry and yes, the shrimp would work! Joe started with a glass of the Chianti Classico ($10.00), one of the least expensive options among the reds. The pour was acceptable and he enjoyed it. My Bloody Mary arrived in a highball glass ... and while it was tasty (I love the Zing Zang mixer) ... there was way too much crushed ice and not enough beverage. It was gone in a few sips ... so disappointing. And while I don't recall the price it was probably around $10.00 based on the other cocktail prices posted on the on-line menu. Neither the menu, nor Erin, mentioned that the shrimp selection ($14.00) was 'peel and eat' and though it became obvious when the shell bowl and hand wipes were placed on the table, clarification should have been made at the time our order was placed for diners who may not be familiar with the preparation. The shellfish quickly arrived ... wow ... 12 large (bordering on jumbo) heavy, local, chilled and lightly seasoned (think Old Bay) beauties served in a mound on a tray of ice. Both the key lime aioli (smooth and creamy) and cocktail sauce (tangy with a dab of horseradish) were tasty; however, the portions of each were so small to really make an impact. We were completely underwhelmed with our pizzas. First, they were over cooked and in some spots, burnt, but more disappointing, Joe's Salsiccia ($16.00), composed of tomato, fennel sausage, greens and ricotta, was too short on sausage (four thin, small slices) and while every nano inch of my veggie selection, the Pesto ($15.00), with roasted eggplant, mozzarella, feta, capers, corn and yellow cherry tomatoe halves was covered, I only counted 3 slices of eggplant. No, we were not happy. If you are considering checking out W&G there are a few things you should know. (1) It is not family friendly (no children's menu) so leave the kids at home. (2) By 5:30 pm, the small dining room was filled and every seat at the bar was taken. (3) If you are looking for a great Happy Hour deal, keep looking as there are no specials. (4) The menu is small ... so check it out on-line to be sure everyone in your party will be satisfied. (5) There is no carpet to help absorb sound and the volume of music challenges meaningful conversation. In my opinion, a concept like Wood & Grain would be a great option in a large hotel, or resort and for I'on et al. locals wanting after an after the theater (movie, concert) lite bite but with closing at 10:00, for the latter, it's not an option. For us, with so many places around town to drop a fast $100+ (with tip and tax) it's unlikely that we'll be returning anytime soon. read more

Can't believe the 3rd rate service for these prices. Chinese take out would be a step up. Seriously can't expect high school students to do a professional job. For example, grabbing plates without asking, taking way too long to bring beers and tea, tried several times. The short blonde especially had an attitude. I had high hopes for W&G but i left feeling slightly disappointed. We love Opal which is part of this dining group, but W&G won't be on my short list. We went on a Monday night and it was packed! It's very small and they do not take reservations. We ordered the peel and eat shrimp which comes with a key lime aioli. I didn't taste any key lime and found it to be spicy. Very odd seeing as key lime lends you to thinking of sweet. Also served with Siracha cocktail sauce which was great and not as spicy as the key lime which was bizarre. We then had the wood fired oysters which man friend loved. I didn't care for them at all. The combination of warm oyster (I love an oyster roast) with the marinade just didn't do it for me. Prosciutto and tomato pizza was next. One piece of prosciutto to a slice. Didn't see any tomatoes other than the sauce. Could have stepped up the garlic game. Overall, the pizza was a letdown. Rounded out the meal with the kale and mushroom salad which was my favorite item after the shrimp. It was good and flavorful, but it's not a salad that would keep me coming back for more. Prior to tip, we spent $72. No drinks. I'll be leaving this one for the Mt. Pleasant citizens. read more

Wood & Grain is 5 star for all the right reasons, and our night here was just wonderful! No reservations on a Saturday night and we did not even wait, just sat right at the bar. From the minute we entered to the minute we left the staff was friendly and engaging. The inside is a little smaller than expected, but adequate with about 5 tall pub tables along the far wall, 2 larger pub tables in the middle, counter seating at the front window, and then the bar. What was noticeable was the vibe, so lively, energetic, and a good mix of music to boost. After reviewing the menu, our night started with drinks. There was a good beer selection of both local (Coast Kolsch, Westbrook One Claw, Freehouse IPA) and craft beers. But the specialty cocktail menu needed our attention first, I chose the La Paloma. Then we ordered the essentials - oysters and pizza. They have 2-3 different oysters to choose, we went with Wellfleet oysters from Massachusetts. Lovely, right amount of salinity, and they have some great sauces to add. But we also saw the wood roasted oysters on the menu, and had to have them...Yum! Big plump oysters, warm with a garlicky topping. For a salad I went with the local greens salad that was topped with a creamy gorgonzola dressing. My husband had the local mushroom salad with kale, lemon & thyme. Both were large servings, but we managed. Then came the pizzas, that were cooked in the wood fire oven. We sat so close to the kitchen area we could see pizzas made and cooked all night. We had one margharita pizza and one funghi pizza. Both were satisfying and delectable, but the funghi was the winner with roasted local mushrooms, fontina, feta, garlic & thyme. The wood fire oven did give the pizzas a crisp edge, which we didn't mind, but overall the tastes of both pizzas was perfect. Add to that our cocktails and a beer, the dinner was spot on. Adult night like it should be. Dessert - yes, tiramisu for 2! Do it. The owner, Chef Owens was also present all night, and he was usually observed delivering orders to each table. We could tell he was there to keep up the pace, and flow of the kitchen. And to take care of his customers. Very much involved yet he let his staff do their job and make good impressions. We were pleased with Wood & Grain, and feel it adds a unique experience for Mt. Pleasant. We look forward to visiting again! read more
