Found this bakery/ tortilla making shop driving around Rogers. Clean and well lit the pride of ownership is obvious. The bread was tasty and filling. I bought some 'cookies' and pan de huevo too. The corn tortillas and menudo were pretty good. Now the menudo was spicy hot. That was unexpected for sure. Well I didn't anticipate that at all. I was going to enjoy some white menudo with added condiments to my taste. So be aware that the dark red menudo is Spicy. Oh also I guess I forgot to ask if their to go containers included both nestamal and stomach. Only having meat and some onions and chiles were not what I had anticipated. read more

I went around 7 pm as I was told their tamales were some of the best. I was pleasantly surprised they also had a great selection of Mexican bakery items. A manager sitting in the lobby politely responded when I asked for an explanation of their flavors. He nicely answered every question and I picked out two for dessert. I went to the clerk at the checkout who spoke no English but was also nice. We worked out I wanted three tamales, one pork, one cheese, and one chicken. She retrieved them and was back in a minute and gave me a hot sauce and a really hot sauce to go. The price was $5 for everything! The tamales and the the baked goods were great. This little place is quite a gem in Rogers. Fresh tortillas, tamales and bread are made here daily. The people who run it are always very friendly and I am truly surprised it has not been added to Yelp as I have been coming here for about 5 years. If you have never had a fresh, warm, corn tortilla you are absolutely missing out. You can enjoy it on its own, you can have it with some butter, you can eat it with your favorite Mexican food. No store-bought preservative-filled tortilla can ever compare to what they have here at Tortilleria & Bakery La Popular. The first time I drove by this place I had to stop and come in. Lo' and behold they have an authentic corn tortilla machine. It's like I was taken back to my childhood; spending summers with my Grandmother in Mexico and walking up the hill every morning to the tortilleria to buy a fresh kilo of toritllas for the day. The look, the smell, the sound of the tortilla machine was exactly the same... you CAN'T get more authentic than that! You order your tortillas by the kilo, and they give them to you wrapped and so warm that you want to unwrap them and shove a whole tortilla in your mouth right then and there -- but you stop yourself because you may frighten the person behind the register. On top of that, the tortillas are super cheap! Don't stop there though! With all that awesome corn masa that they produce for their tortillas, they also make fresh tamales! I have tried a couple of flavors and they are delicious. I have ordered an extra dozen and frozen them for a later time. They sell food... entire dinners with beans and rice that you can take home and feed your family with. They sell home-made flour tortillas too, which are yummy. Their selection of fresh salsas are also delicious. These are not your typical tomato-y chip and salsa types, though. These salsas are made with dried chiles and they are the kind you top on your food for that extra spice. They also make some Aguas Frescas, but their selection varies. Another thing you notice all over the place is their bread. Mexican sweet bread to fill your hearts desire for something delicious to dunk into your coffee in the morning. I can go on and on about this place, but it will only make sense once you visit! Quick tip: If you are paying with your credit/debit card, they would prefer that it is a purchase over $10, so bring cash if you are making a small purchase. read more

Ok, so I'm from San Diego and have lived in Hawaii for the last 34 years... my high school girlfriend lives in Bentonville... I came to visit and she said, "I found the BEST place to eat Mexi June." She was right. Not only are they a bakery with authentic pastries, the lunch special we ordered was priced right and DELICIOUS! 2 tacos - carnitas, beans were flavorful and rice as seasoned perfectly, hot and moist for $4.99. For a moment we both wished we had remember more Spanish from our college days, lol... just so we could talk more with the cashier with ease. Like the regulars that came in like a steady flowing stream. Her english was fine, but it would have been cool to really connect with her. I want to go back and I'm leaving tomorrow. Bonus... if you need fresh tortillas, this is the place. We are grateful to be eating homemade quesadillas with their salsa we bought right now! I have been going to this bakery for several years recently I went to get my normal selection of wonderful bakery goods and 3 tamales. The new clerk working there forgot to put my tamales in my bag. I came back inside to tell her. She asked for a receipt that was not given to me. Needless to say. I had just stepped out to my car and come back in. She refused to give me the 3 tamales I had ordered and paid for and treated me like a criminal for asking. This was 2 months ago and I have not been back. After giving this bakery business for 3 years I refuse to go back and be treated unfairly and poorly. I an looking forward to the large bakery that is being opened across the street.
