    Sad $6 tacos
    Gerry G.

This place has gone downhill. It was never great, but the street-takeover patio is a great place to sit. They stopped frying the fish for the baja tacos, which I guess must have been inconvenient for the kitchen, so we opted for alternatives. The tacos arrived in an unappetizing pile on the plates, see below. The carne asada tasted like the meat was boiled and was bland as hell. The al pastor was fine. The queso was an abomination, not fully heated through, and tasted like they added mayo or something to the mixture. Also I didn't read carefully to notice it had corn mixed in. WTAF? And unlike the photo showing tortillas, we received chips instead, which was very confusing. Service was adequate.

My wife and I both ordered the Mushrooms Al Pastor Enchiladas, served with black beans, rice and small salad. The mushrooms were marinated in a spicy chili paste that tickled our taste buds. Their enchiladas are made with home made corn tortillas, so much better the ones that come pre-made at other joints. There was enough left over to bring some home for lunch. If you're trying to cut down on your carnivore habit, try these -- you'll never miss the meat.

Quesabirria + consommè dinner with rice and beans, guacamole, and non-alcoholic red wine.

Genuinely amazing service. Everything was fresh, hot, and juicy. The resteraunt vibe/ambiance was bright and lively but not overwhelming. I think this was some of the best chips and guacamole I've ever had, and I highly recommend the quesabirria dinner

This place has really ramped up their menu and it is delicious! The flavor profiles are amazing and the selection is great. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is always clean. I can't wait for their summer outdoor space!

One of my all time favorite and go-to restaurants! The tacos are filled with delicious flavors, and something for everyone to enjoy. My personal favorite is the Carne Asada or the Pescado, but I have to say I've never tried one I don't like. On top of that, the interior design of the restaurant is absolutely stunning, with bright colors and fun chairs on every wall. The servers are always kind and friendly, and I never leave unhappy. If you are to hit any restaurant in South Evanston, definitely try La Principal.

Great happy hour commandeering of Custer Street every evening.

The food was good, very decent margaritas. Good specials. The decor is cute and it's very comfortable.

Got greeted by a friendly host and even friendlier waitress, both who were accommodating all night. The tacos are pricey, but two will fill you up (and im a big eater). I got the Al pastor and Alambre -- both nearly overflowing with meat, and just the right amount of toppings, with room for salsa. Salsa wasnt up to my spice level, but very tasty. Ate food with a Margarita, which was offered smoked with Mezcal or regular tequila, and that too was a bit pricey, but again, you savored every sip with that tajin covered rim. 10/10, and would recommend for date night. P.S. No pics because everything and smelled looked too good I was so busy eating!

I highly recommend you come here just for the ambience. I tried Zentli for lunch when they first opened and there was no one else there while I dined. The menu was a bit confusing because things were crossed off and I didn't see many vegan options. The server, however, let me know that he could help me figure out how to order something vegan. I ended up getting a breakfast burrito and substituted potatoes for eggs. Accidentally, the potatoes were put on the side, but that was OK. The food was tasty and the portion size was average. I was also a little bummed that they had Mexican Coke on the menu, but the server said they had just recently switched to Pepsi.

My first thought was, "This is like Chipotle, if Chipotle was actually good," and I'm sticking with that. Perhaps that can be the new slogan for Guzman y Gomez. Run with it, put it on your bags and cups, just make sure to pay me back in free burritos. It's not exactly the same model as Chipotle. You don't watch the magic happen, so there's no opportunity to request a little more of this or a bit less of that. But the staff here are so eager to please, I always find I get exactly what I was looking for anyway. If you need a little more of anything, just ask, and they're happy to oblige. Plus, this place has so many more options than Chipotle, it's crazy. Better food, better atmosphere, just better overall. During my first visit, I had the pleasure of chatting with one of the chefs, Dustin, and I could hear the passion for cooking in how he spoke about this role here. He broke down all their vegan options for me and made sure my first burrito was an absolute hit. It's probably that first visit that got me hooked, so G y G is lucky to have a guy like him. Two vegan mayos, chipotle or herb, both delicious. Pulled shiitake mushroom, seasoned beautifully and cooked to order. Perfectly cooked rice, yummy fajita veggies, salsa options galore, it was all spot on. Super authentic Mexican? No, but that's ok. "Inspired by authentic Mexican food" is fine by me. And how'd they manage to get so many friendly employees? I've been here a half a dozen times, and everyone is so damn chipper and happy to help. Plus, the music is upbeat and fun, not some dreary corporate playlist. I actually *want* to eat in, which I rarely look forward to in a fast food spot. I'm loving it. There are times when you just need something satisfying and fast that doesn't break the bank. This place brings that energy via fresh ingredients prepared with expertise. Plus, as I said, Chipotle is garbage. I'm glad Guzman y Gomez decided to pop up in Evanston.
