I could be more understanding if the prices were reasonable, but Chicago has such a great food scene so it's a bit crazy to me to pay these prices on food that's not cooked or seasoned well. I remember why we stopped going to the smaller location! The owner is a real piece of work! Loves to overcharge and when I ask why the price does not match her menu or online she literally tossed her computer around with an attitude to show us what she's doing. ASSUMING your paying with a Credit card the price is automatically increased per item! The explanation was simple but how she handled it was terrible with other customers present. Clearly we are not the only ones asking about her prices. Honestly the food is subpar. Better food at El Famous, Wholly Frijoles and more in the neighborhood. I cannot speak about the restaurant experience as I had the food delivered. The lengua en salsa was very good. Unlike other restaurants that serve the meat in a red or green salsa, this was in an almost clear liquid with onions and peppers in it. The meat was sliced thin and was quite tasty. Food is great, I nearly always get the same torta. And the people working there are always nice.

My coworker recommended this restaurant for lunch and I was not disappointed. First of all, the carne asada torta was huge and totally worth the price but I didn't expect all that, so I also ordered the chile relleno taco. When I got the food I thought, "This is a lot of food, I'll probably have leftovers." But it was so good, I just ate everything! The torta was so good, bite after bite, I just kept going. To be honest, I'm not a fan of avocados but the torta was so good, it just fit with the meal and I just kept eating. And I wish I ordered another chile relleno taco because that one was not enough. The craziest thing was, this food was delivered. I can't wait to see how it tastes right out of the kitchen! Also, both the salsa verde and salsa tequera sauces that comes with it? Really good! This establishment took my order over the phone for delivery, sent me the wrong order. I returned the food and was promised a refund after the manager returned the next day. When I followed up the next day, I was berated for not simply eating what I was given and for not speaking Spanish. They kept my money (approximately $30), didn't fill my original order, and cursed at me until I gave in and hung up. This happened after more than 20 years of loyal patronage. No deserves to be treated or taken advantage of in that way. read more

My sister came in town and I wanted to grab some amazing Mexican American food for her and well, don't go here. Lol. I got a three taco chicken dinner. Chile, tacos drier then the Sahara desert. No seasoning or nothing hony. You get dried chipped chicken, old ass lettuce and tomatoes on top. I mean, damn, no abocate? No jalapeno? Called grubhub about the poor quality and they said the restaurant said the chicken, in fact, was NOT dry because it's chicken breast, so no, no refund. (Which I wasn't necessarily looking for - would have loved to actually have some edible tacos but...coo). I took a lil video of the chicken - you tell me if it looks dry or not... beans were two thumbs down for me due to poor seasoning. Next is the nachos. Don't order these to go or if you do, specifically ask for the chips on the side as well as your sour cream because some genius in the kitchen put the chips and sour cream all in the same container so we got a box of mushy tortilla chips and curdled sour cream - really gross. We also got french fries - fine with those, and a side of rice which is cooked well but no seasoning. I think I may have mistaken this spot with another place I ordered from that was actually bomb. Overall the restaurant didn't seem concerned that a neighbor wasn't happy with their version of chicken tacos and these nachos so Grubhub comped me $11 for the order. Which is great, because it wasn't their fault. And also sucks, because I still paid $23 on poor quality food that is going in the trash and we're still hungry... I mean unless you know these folks and you gotta eat here and say great things because your friends...don't. Because real friends don't tell their friends they make great chicken tacos when it's dry dry DRY! The chicken IS DRY MA'AM. One of many Rogers Park taquerias(taco shops). A favorite of locals and apparently having an authentic touch. As stated to me; close to "flavors of Mexico" as said by one of my RP neighbors. The good: Their burritos, tacos, appetizers, tortas and hot sauce.. The hotter of the hot sauces is ungodly. It's got a light orange coloring to it. I have a cousin that buys it in pints because he loves it so much. While I enjoy varying spice levels, I don't mess with that sauce. It kills my tastes buds and renders my tongue useless for awhile. I'm starting to perspire as I write this review thinking about its strength... lol. Back to the food. Some proteins are better than others and not all are made with the same diligence. Recently I tried their lengua taco. It was so dry that I choked on it and needed to drink fluids while eating. I had hiccups for a while after. The tongue was overcooked and under seasoned. Such a travesty. On other occasions I've had al pastor burritos which were filling and tasty. Their appetizers are of a good quantity for sharing. An odd detail is between counter staff. It seems there are different rules on different days. When I order burritos or appetizers like nachos, I like to order them with everything offered. I may request extra meat or an additional protein. I am also willing to pay any extra charge or overage. But on other trips, when the counter-person is different, they are unwilling to do add ons and then state that their menu is as is. #Idontgetit Personally I don't see/taste food that is above average. Though you wouldn't know it by seeing how much business they get now during shelter-in-place. Very disappointed in this recent visit. The costs have doubled. For a meal of eggs, rice and beans it was $13 the wait time for my meal was over 30 minutes and it was just me inside the restaurant. Portion sizes have decreased. Not to mention they don't have heating I mentioned it was freezing and they said heat does not work. Ordered Milanese de res, the steak was deep fried in rancid oil did not even have to taste it the smell was rancid. My carne asada taco some of the meat was just burnt. The shrimp taco was good. The coke was good. I also ordered guacamole which I never got. Called restaurant and told quickly they gave Grubhub driver 2 bags. And I should call Grubhub. She said she would let them know. I called driver and he stated he only got one bag. I trusted his answer and responded to Grubhub and they are issuing refund. Right now I am finishing my steak taco and chewing on burnt steak. This is the best place for Mexican food in Rogers Park. Great place for dining in, takeout, or delivery. The burritos are good, but they put in a little too much lettuce. The enchiladas are my favorite. They're tasty with just the right amount of spicy. I also enjoy the tamales and the tacos. I'm looking forward to trying more of their dishes. Don't forget the guacamole. I ordered from them and they never showed up. We called the restaurant after an hour and a half and they said give us five minutes. Chicken tacos were so dry as to be inedible. The tortillas were not softened in the least and the diced chicken was dry as a bone. My husbands beans were dried out as well. The quesadillas with carne were decent enough but could have used some sour cream or something! This is my favorite restaurant. I always order the tacos de asada dinner. This place compared to other Mexican restaurants is way cheaper without taking away quality of the food. Their agua de horchata is so freaking delicious! I would also recommend the green enchiladas filled with carne asada because they are the best in the city in my opinion! So This is true authentic Mexican food. Update 05/25/19 The food is still great but the lady who was taking my order this time was very rude. It wasn't the young woman that is usually there because she's always so nice and polite but the older lady. She shouldn't be upfront taking orders with that attitude. It seems she might be related to the owners or something because I wouldn't hire someone like that to be interacting with customers. She wanted to charge me extra for asking to only have green and habanero sauce instead of the red one for my to go order. I had to tell her that I was replacing the red sauce for a green sauce 5 times and that charging me extra was insane because noone has given me trouble for that before until she was there.
