I snagged it and I'm so happy I did so! Turns out we were right within their happy hour offering so we gladly took advantage and ordered everything off the menu in addition to other items later. The shrimp was incredible the hummus, unique and delicious the pork quesadilla on the rich side, but a nice accompaniment to our appetizer stage of the experience, we got the truffle fries, and as with any truffle fries I've ever had. They were equally delicious. In addition to our main courses, everything was super tasty fresh and well presented. The view and overall environment of the inside bar was incredible. Our accommodations are oceanfront so to still get a wow factor from a restaurant setting other than the sea house notable. The highlight of our experience was our amazing waiter named Dylan, a young man with a polished and professional and friendly approach. He was very attentive and spent time with us, enjoying our stories of life and sharing his own. These were all obviously cliff note versions as he was busy with other tables, but he was really engaging and offered incredible advice on what to order. We have had lots of fine, dining experience, including Michelin star restaurants, and this guy could easily work at any of them however, he did say how happy he was at Merriman's and that says a lot I could tell the staff was all having a good time and enjoying their working experience which then of course the vibe rolls into the guests and their dining experience. I hope the manager reads this and appreciates such a kind young wonderful man working at their establishment and representing to the T. If you're lucky enough to score reservations, definitely go! Oh! And don't forget the vanilla ice cream there is something crazy special. It might be gelato actually whatever it was made all of our heads spin absolutely crazy good. Aloha. This is my favorite place to eat in Maui. I read some of the reviews of people who were not happy with the service and the temper of staff, daughter and owner. Yes you might perceive some strange evil eyes if you piss them off, feel like nobody see you, and yes experience some flies at some seasons. To all of you I say get a life! Imagine getting up in the morning at 3 am every morning and working hard at making the best pastries...then cooking. By 8 am it feels like fog in the head no matter how many coffee you drink. First the owner Thiery and his daughter have a love and hate relationship but mostly love!...They are both good people with bad ass attitudes mostly due to fatigue and French arrogence. They know they are the best.. So La Provence is a great place to go to practice YOUR OWN ALOHA! Yes there are flies at times...so what...do you prefer chemicals spraying, fly trip hanging from your parasol? Grow up...go pump some GMO chemical up your behind! So think of it this way when you go to La Provence eating there is like your driver license.: .it is a privilege and not a given right. Lol. Did you ever try making a croissant? If not go to you tube and look how much work is involved. So yes sometimes you got to be really patient with the service...sometimes the staff is new from help that could not handle working there anymore. They get super busy at times...and it must be hard to remember who is who! So take it easy...the worse that can happen is you wait...it is worth the wait. Relax...it is not the mainland here. There is one cook...Can you cook faster than him and better? ....impossible can tell you that! Price are very reasonable. So yes...they are moody at times. Like everybody they have ups and downs. Just kill them with kindness, ignore the perceived rudeness at times...they just have no patience nor time for complainers! So imagine you are visiting a country ruled by a benevolent dictator...just shut up and enjoy eating! The scenery is kind of romantic, peaceful and beautiful! it is a beautiful settings...bring your smile, humility and good humor. Just be a masochist for a for a hour in case service is slow...it won't kill you. If you feel like complaining ...go ahead make a spectacle and amuze the rest of us who will have one more delicious pastry in your name! So we will no longer have to rush in the morning worrying about getting there before you eat the last one. LOL. read more

This is a full response to one of the reviews that was just posted from Tiare.... I happened to have been there at La Provence, the same day for breakfast and was in the line with you. I was there for my friends birthday so I remember clearly how the line was almost around the door before they even opened! I remember the confrontation taking place but I have a different memory of that happened/ I distinctly remember you scolding and loudly arguing with the waitress in line because you did not realize that there was a party of 7 who were seated before any of us in line. This happens frequently up there because the bakery opens earlier than the food service so they get slammed at opening. I also remember the owner coming out to speak with you. He was not dirty... He had a cool tie dye shirt and his words were "They are doing their best.... If you don't like it you can go somewhere else." I applauded him because it is rare to have owners of restaurants who give their staff such respect, and in the service industry, servers have to deal with many demands all at once. That's ALOHA at its best! The owner got a fan in me on that day because I've been a waitress for 13 years and I am appalled at how entitled many guests behave when they go out to eat! Maybe you should think before you react and take a deep breath before you speak. You made yourself look tacky and aggressive that morning up in Kula... And here online too! HAHAHAHA.... Cheers to small family owned restaurant, with a staff of local families! They get many of their vegetables from local farms! PS don't talk about Aloha until you practice it, and know what it is....
