This is the worst haircut I've ever had. The guy obviously didn't know what he was doing and shouldn't be allowed to handle clippers near anyone. The first two pictures are the haircut I received and the second two are from the haircut I usually get. As you can see they don't match up at all and I am so disappointed with this barber that I went and had to pay a different barber just to fix his mistakes. I will never go here again and encourage anyone who needs a haircut to go to a bum before walking in this barber shop. I asked for a two on the sides(towards the top) and to taper it up in the photo it's tapered with a zero. You just started cutting without asking anything which you should have done if you were confused on what I wanted. You even cut the top without asking how much I wanted off. When you checked in with me half way you said it looked like a zero in the picture for the taper and I agreed and said yeah. Why would I show you a picture if I didn't want them to match up?? Came here because my usual place, Ronnie's Barbershop, had 5-6 people waiting and I was in a bit of a rush. I'm a simple hair cut with just numbers on side and top. There was no wait so I got to go right away. He wasn't the most graceful as he bumped my head a bit more than most using the clippers and the clippers also pulled my hair a bit more than I was used to. He also cut one of the moles on my neck but it's not the first time that's happened. However he seemed to catch my hair while trimming the neck line making it look uneven, which is a first time I've had that problem. There was no eyebrow trim or neck shave that I've come to expect from other barbers. I'll probably make sure I have time to wait for my usual barber next time. He was nice when I realized I forgot to grab cash and luckily there was an atm was next door. A super nice response from the owner. I couldn't see the line problem because my glasses were off and honestly I've never had someone screw up like that before. I would've thought you would catch something like that. From what I could see without my glasses the front and sides were fine. And as for my other "childish" complaints, they are accurate. You gave me a lazy haircut. Most barbers that charge more than 15 bucks can do a haircut smoothly with well oiled and sharp clippers but apparently that's an unreasonable expectation for you. Amongst moajority of over reviews, I was in seek of a barber around my neck of the woods, because I was tired of over charging shops who didn't have any skills. Luckily thanks to yelp, and their trust worthy reviews from other users I came across La Rivera Barber Shop. My first time I came to this shop was back in 05/2012. before then I had a roommate cut my hair (who moved out) after that I was going to a barber in Concord (drive was just to far from sacramento), then I tried sports clips (FML never again), and now I find myself here fortunately at a shop that charges a very fair price, and skills that make others around notice the work performed. When you come in after work (like I find myself doing most of the time when I come here on a weekday) don't be surprised if there is a wait of 3-4 other customers ahead of you, you can consider it further proof of how good he cuts hair. While you are waiting you can either see the tv on with golf on, or you have a choice of tons of magazine options through out the waiting area. At first I thought I was going to wait a while until I was going to get into the barber chair, but not only does he do quality work, but he does the job in a time efficient manner. From what I witnessed he does varies styles of cuts, but I go to him for fades. He does even beard trimming and shaving for those who are looking for that extra treatment also. Stopped in at La Riviera to get my "Q-Tip Asian Fro" cut and Travis did an excellent job, definitely the best I've had in Sacramento area. As a recent transplant from the bay area, I had a difficult time finding someone that could navigate the bush on top of my head. I went to at least 6 of the "top rated" places on yelp and just found them to be mediocre while charging exorbitant rates. Sure, those places had beer and the barbers had cool tattoos with fashionable hipster or rockabilly clothes, but I don't know if it was worth the premium. I'd HIGHLY recommend Travis to anyone just looking for a great haircut and good conversation without all the pretentiousness. He knew exactly what I wanted and delivered. Travis is a master barber. When I moved here I was worried , I was with my barber for awhile and got great fades. When I met Travis and showed him pictures of my haircut he cut it perfectly. He's super nice, knows when to talk to you and when you just want to chill, prices are reasonable and is a really great guy! If I could give 6 stars I would. I can't say enough good things about this place. If your a guy who's tired of getting his hair messed up over at supercuts, check this place out. I found this place almost by accident one day, and decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. Hair cuts are about $13-$14 and the place is never usually that busy, but that's only because Travis (the barber) doesn't have alot of money for advertising, so alot of people don't know about the shop. Even if there is a wait (and it's usually pretty minimal) there's plenty of GOOD magazines to read while your waiting...you won't be stuck having to read a sports illustrated from three years ago or a fresh copy of better homes and gardens. No matter how messed up my hair looks when I walk in, I always walk out of there looking like a million bucks. And if that wasn't good enough, when he's done cutting your hair, he puts some warm shaving cream on the back of your neck and shaves the hair with a straight razor. It sucks that alot of people don't know about this place because if that were the case, then the supercuts over on fair oaks probably wouldn't be in business. read more

My dad has been coming to Travis since before I was born and he thinks it's the best haircut in Sacramento. What's most important is that Mama likes our haircuts, so she gives Travis two thumbs up. This is the best barber shop in town. Travis is incredibly talented, and his prices undercut all these trendy hipster shops springing up across Sacramento. I have a friend who works as a cosmetologist in a swanky hair salon who is amazed at the quality and deal I consistently get from Travis. And Travis is a funny dude! A few years ago, after going to the same barber in Midtown Sacramento for nearly 20 years, I needed a haircut badly one day for an business trip overseas the next day. I didn't get get a reservation like I should have and it proved to be an inconvenience and a stroke of luck. My regular place was closed for an emergency, but I had to run an errand near La Riviera Drive. I'd never noticed the little barber shop around the corner from the street front business. And no one was there (lucky me) except the barber, Travis, when I walked in. I've never returned to my other barber. Travis gives a precision haircut and he charges $13, with a slight additional charge beard trims, shampoo, etc. For the price . . . . for any price, it's a bargain. The barber shop is largely nondescript, except for the black-and-white check tile floor and stacks of magazines for waiting customers, which is usually the case. Even when there's three or four customers waiting, Travis doesn't rush. He engages customers in a soft-tone voice as he makes his way through the haircut. The La Riviera Barber Shop is not a hair salon. It's a basic barber shop, run by a guy who runs a simple, straightforward business and gives a mean haircut. Travis also now has a new colleague, Mackenzie. She's a smiling young woman with a pleasant voice who just started around the first of the year. Either one of the barbers does a fantastic job -- Travis is awesome, and I personally think Dae (not sure of spelling) is my favorite; she's fast, skilled, and does exactly what I want. They're friendly, but not distracted by chatting with other customers. The place is nothing fancy; simple decor, camp chairs for sitting while you wait, and none of the antiques or knickknacks on the wall that other places have, although they do have a giant flat-screen TV that usually plays a game or something else interesting. But that doesn't matter. For the price ($15) and the cut, there's nowhere better in this part of town. One thing: I've seen people try to wait for Travis instead of getting a cut from Dae, possibly because English isn't her first language. Don't be that guy. I thought it was time to do an update on my review and I just went today so perfect. I went in today and told Travis I wanted to do a completely different style then I've ever had because I wanted to look more professional since I had an interview this afternoon. I described what I wanted to do and instead of just saying sure and cutting, he took a comb and messed with my hair for 2-3min until he figured if it was possible and the best way to get that look with my hair before he told me it could be done or cut anything. When he finished I was amazed how good it looked! The rest of the day I had about 10 different people at work randomly say how good my hair cut looked! While attending Sac State, I needed a quick place to trim my hair. I looked on yelp and found this place. Surprisingly, the barber shop was walking distance from my house. For the whole two years I lived in Sac I only went to Travis. Travis is the best barber I've ever had. Unfortunately, I moved away from Sacramento so I don't go to him anymore. But with that being said, I highly recommend going to him for a men's haircut. Just try it out, you won't be disappointed. If I remember correctly, he charged $13. If you want to sit down and chat it up, he can do that. But if you're like me and just need the haircut with no small talk, he's good for that too. Like an honest mechanic, finding someone who knows how to cut good hair, is like finding a needle in a hay stack! I think it's important to note that I found Travis via THIS website. I read the reviews and decided that the odds looked pretty good. Well? I've been to Travis a total of 3 times now and I have got to say, Travis is a great Barber. A TRUE Barber, who takes his time, listens to his customer and ultimately, wants you to leave happy with the result. Additionally, Travis has a very friendly personality, likes to talk about all sorts of stuff, from sports to nutrition. He also has an extensive magazine collection, and I think almost every man can appreciate that 'cuz most of us would rather look at pictures than read. (although "I" actually like reading magazine articles). I have a less than round head and my hair is NOT easy to cut. Travis cuts my hair well and makes me look good. I'm confident that Travis will only get better, as he gets to know the shape of my head and the way in which my hair should be cut (which is so important for cutting someone's hair). Tried this guy out for the first time from the reviews on Yelp. I was third in line but since he cuts hair fast, it was not big deal. He has magazines for men to read while you wait. I told him what I wanted (short fade: one on the sides, four on top) which I think is a basic haircut for men but I have had it screwed up before. He made light conversation as he cut but he seems like a quiet guy. Anyways, he did what he is paid to do and it came out pretty well. $13 (not including tip) is what he charges. You can get a beard trim or neck shave for $2 more. CASH OR CHECK ONLY. There is nothing "fancy" about this barbershop. It's go in, get a cut, pay the guy, and leave. When I walked in there was only one barber available, there was a line of 3 guys so I had to wait a couple minutes. Not a bad sign. When it was my turn, barber asked me what I want and off she goes. My husband and son just started coming here, they've been about 4 times now. I feel like every barber has their own style of cutting hair, so the first time my husband came his hair was a little different then what he typically gets. It wasn't a bad haircut, just not his usual. The next time he went, he spoke up and was more specific on what he'd like, and in the end he asked Travis to make a few adjustments to his hair. You wouldn't believe what happened... Travis actually did exactly what my husband asked without any complaints! He's very happy with his new barber. Highly overrated. Only one guy there and he was going too fast for the next customer, ended up with a low-quality haircut. I never got his name but I went there nearly a week ago and I wanted to keep some hair on the side near the top so I can comb it. So I guess he didn't understand what "keep" means until he shaved it off. I now have a balding fade I have to wait for to grow, I was look more for a mid/low fade. I expected more however he's not with the times of modern haircuts. If you're a young man looking for a trendy or cool cut, I'd look elsewhere. read more

I started off liking the place, but the cuts kept getting worse over time. Eventually, every time I would come home following a haircut, I would have trim my hair after each cut. I would even take in pictures with me to show the barber what kind of haircut I wanted---all to no avail. I went for the last time this week. The guy in front of me requested a flat top, and was upset after Travis blew it (giving him a bur instead). Then it was my turn, I specifically told him what i wanted, told him how important it was, as I had several big things coming up, and then rec'd a terrible cut---not even close to what I had instructed. I told him specifically what I wanted and what I did not want. The cut wasn't even close, and it wasn't balanced---and it certainly didn't look good. Family have even kindly mentioned it as not being right. I think the barber has a drug problem. He was once a very good barber, but he is no longer dependable. It pains me to write this review as I really like the guy. However, you are asking for trouble if you go to this place for a haircut. read more
