Stayed at the beautiful grand solmar. I'm not sure I've ever been to a prettier hotel. The view from La Roca is outstanding. Service is extremely SLOW. The food, although artistically presented lacked the quality you would expect for such a price tag. My husband had the ribeye and there was so much fat, it was hard to find edible pieces to eat. We are all about a well marbled steak but this one was 60% fat. I had the filet. It was covered in a sauce that was similar to a ranchero sauce. I didn't care for it. Most expensive meal we had in Cabo and least favorite. Take a $10 taxi and visit some of the amazing restaurants. Edith's has been our favorite so far. read more

Giving the restaurant 2 stars for the view and the ambiance, but did not meet the mark when it came to service. It is a beautiful location right next to the beach, and being able to watch the waves crash on the shore. However; our salad had bees all over it and we needed to move inside to avoid. This was one point the staff could have brought us a new one, or taken it off the bill as we were only able to enjoy 1/3 of it before the bees swarmed. Then my boyfriend ordered a medium rare steak and it came out very very rare. By the time the waiter came back to check-in, the rest of us had finished our meal and shared with him. He showed the waiter and he agreed that it was not medium rare. We asked to send it back and cancel the order because we had already finished our meal. They continued to make a new steak, and send the chef out to tell us that it had already been remade so they would not be cancelling or comping the $100 steak. Very disappointing this happened not just once, but twice. We told the waiter we would definitely still tip on the $400 bill, even after sending the steak back but they didn't offer any condolences or try to make our experience better. Came here for dinner one night. The restaurant is beautiful with a gorgeous view of the water. The place was pretty dead. We were the only ones for close to an hour. The service was good. Prices were mixed. Some of the meats seemed way too high, but other items were reasonable. Started with the skirt steak appetizer. It was "ok." Some of the ingredients didn't seem to mix well. For dinner I had the fresh catch of the day with a pea puree. It was excellent! All those ingredients blended very nicely and made for a tasty dish. Highly recommend! I thought this place was just alright. We came for dinner. We had reservations in advance. It is located on the Grand Solmar property, which is kind of out of the way for anyone in Cabo since it's "lands end". The service was wonderful. The atmosphere outside was lovely since you can't beat the beach and the waves. As for the food, I wasn't such a big fan--esp for the price. - We got bread w different salsas to start. The bread was just okay. Salsas/spreads were nice though. - They gave us a mushroom amusebouche, which was also just okay. (Sorry. I'm not a downer... I think bc I come from a very metropolitan city where food is life, my expectations for food are very high.) - Beet salad - this was interesting. Some pieces of beet were incredibly salty. And then some pieces were really sour. And some were incredibly salty and sour. The flavors were inconsistent. Each bite was kind of filled w anticipation of fear that it'd be a bite of saltiness or intense sourness. We couldn't finish it bc it was just too overpowering. - grilled cheese starter- this is literally 3 triangle slices of cheese in green sauce served w 3 tortillas. The tortillas were great. The rest of the appetizer was meh. - jumbo shrimp: this came w 6 pieces of shrimp, a slice/scoop of goat cheese, and your choice of mushroom, asparagus, or veggies. I opted for mushroom. The shrimp wasn't huge, but it wasn't small. It was like eating butter garlic shrimp at any other restaurant. Mushroom was okay. I'm not a fan of goat cheese, so no comment there. - charcoal catch of the day - this was tuna for today. It was... (Sorry) just okay. Kind of dry. I also came here for breakfast. - The bagel and lox was not bad. The salmon was very overpowering but the bagel was good. - stuffed chili was ... alright. Again, nothing spectacular. - Squash enchiladas: tasted like a normal enchilada. - tacos mananero: I thought this would be tacos, but it's actually like your standard breakfast burrito. Pretty good and filling. One of the better breakfast dishes. - fresh fruit: pineapple, melons, papaya, and blueberries. This is a must. For health and digestion. Lol. - eggs motulenos style: this was actually pretty good. Nice crispy tortilla below and eggs w yolk to pop on top. - coffee: good - papaya smoothie w milk: this tasted like Lucky Charms cereal blended into milk. So it was yummy but it didn't feel healthy or detox-y. Hahahaha. We went there to get seated, they had plenty of seating, they said they could seat us and then another guy came from inside and started staying that since my wife was wearing pants and slippers that doesn't agree to the dress code, another white couple behind us, got the seating and the lady was shocked that she would be let in with pants and slippers but not us. Absolutely outstanding dinner in Cabo at our resort, grand Solmar. The octopus appetizer with beef was tender and sparkled with subtle flavors. The avocado salad had a great bitter sweet taste - a mix of radicchio and avocado nicely dressed. Even the breads served with three different dipping sauces were great. The pork ribs are cooked for 22 hours and served on top of a tasty vegetable medley and with the best blue corn taco ever. Really a treat . Just finished dinner here tonight and had a horrible experience. With so many restaurant choices in Cabo, I recommend going somewhere else. We waited 1.5 hours to get our food and the manager's attempt to make it up to us was futile. If this is supposed to represent a high end restaurant, it fails on that account. It did succeed in bringing down the opinion of the Grand Solmar resort as a whole. Food: 3, Atmosphere: 4, Service: 1 Cost to worth it rating: 2 (standard tourist markup for average quality food) Return worthiness: no! Highlights: - View: outside seating right by the beach was beautiful - Waiter: he was nice and truly seemed disheartened by us having a bad experience Midlights: - Pork shank: meat was cooked ok, but the sauce was not to my hub's taste. 3 stars - Fish of the day was fine--not amazing but not bad: 3 stars - "Grilled chicken" was actually a rotisserie-like Cornish game hen. 3 stars - Bread: was dry and tasteless. 2 stars Lowlights: - Wait for food: we only ordered entrees and it took an hour and 20 minutes to get it. At that time, 2 out of 3 of us got our food. It took another 10 minutes for my husband's entree. When asked about it, the manager said something odd about issues with portioning... Tables around us were sat after us and had not only got their food but multiple courses and left by the time we got ours. It was ridiculous and the staff knew cause they sent us a plain salad none of us wanted and kept saying our food was coming soon. All of us were frustrated and hungry, but we also had a patient yet tired 8 year old with us after a day at the pool. - Waiter promises that we're not followed through: after we had waited so long, I asked our waiter to inform the manager that we will be not paying full price for our meal. Our waiter said "yes, it will be complimentary." Our bill came with no changes. Note after another 10 minutes after asking for it. - Manager response: he apologized, said it was embarrassing, and offered us more drinks. We declined as we wanted to get out there and back to our room. When asked about the bill, he came back with 20% which was the equivalent of less than half of any of our entrees and a few dollars more than 1 drink. At the very least, we expected one entree completely taken off and and would've liked a bit more than that for our horrible experience (esp given what our waiter had said to us). I chose this resort because of the glowing reviews of the food and service and this experience did not hold up to that for us. Up until this meal we didn't have anything negative to say about the resort and planned on coming back and now we're not sure. We also contacted the front desk who deferred us to come back and talk to a manager tomorrow. Not looking great. read more

Please visit and ask for Alexis (the best waiter you could hope for)- not only was he insanely knowledgeable about the menu but he was extremely attentive and offered great suggestions! We tried the chicken fettuccine, the lamb, the steak, the jumbo shrimp, the tomato soup, the corn cake, chipotle brownies, beef tacos, and the white chocolate mouse. Everything was great. My husband really enjoyed the rack of lamb and steak. I really enjoyed the tomato soup and the fettuccine, which was more like a chicken stroganoff, but great. Overall it was a great stay with the all inclusive meal plan offered at the Grand. Service is great when it's empty. Once there are a few occupied tables, the servers tend to be forgetful and ignore all your requests... so order quickly and mention everything you need up front! Love the ocean front view!! I had the pleasure of working with Mary from the public relations team at the resort to plan and execute my husband's 40th birthday dinner and our surprise vow renewal. To say the experience and execution exceeded my expectations is an understatement. Hands down, Mary was such a gem to work with! It can be nerve wrecking to entrust someone you've never met in person with the seamless execution of such a special day. Mary exceeded my expectations and then some! The service we received for our dinner party of 19, was superb. The food was delicious. The grounds of the resort are breathtaking. This is one of the main restaurants at the Grand Solmar Resort. For an amazing ocean view, it doesn't get any better than this. For delicious and interesting dishes, it also doesn't get any better than this! Service is also pretty good too (keeping in mind that you are on vacation, so if you relax a little from your usual SOP, you should be fine.). The bummer is that they do close at 10 p.m., and so we missed out on dinner here on our first night due to some mishaps at check in. It is a little bit pricier than restaurants in town, but not by much, and the view/location is so worth it. We had a wonderful dinner here on our second night-- roasted tomato and watermelon salad, sea bass in a delicious mole type sauce, chicken barbacoa, and a marscapone cheese dessert in berry compote. Heavenly! Today, we had lunch -- lime soup with chicken, portobello mushroom salad, grilled chicken, and a whole grilled snapper. Delicious and generous portions-- we have leftovers to make ourselves "dang quesadillas" and ceviche for dinner tonight! I forgot to mention mojitos -- watermelon and ginger. Yum! read more

Kudos to Chef Alberto and his tireless staff for our best meal yet in Cabo. In the middle of tropical storm Bud with half the staff not able to make it to work and the other half working 12+ hours, his kitchen improvising due to constraints with the rain, and hungry guests to feed, they all delivered. I had the red snapper which was superb. My wife had the filet which was perfect. And our kids both had the shrimp which they said was the best ever. Desert was terrific too. Chef spent time speaking with us after dinner even though it was apparent he was on an emotional high with the evening winding down knowing his team had pulled off no small accomplishment. I gave this place 4 stars because I didn't not try the food from here, I ordered from a different restaurant (the sushi lounge), but the service here was amazing! The waiters were very attentive and always had us in mind. I've eaten at 3 different places here at The Grand Solmar and this is the first place to have attentive waiters, I would recommend anyone to eat here who doesn't want o have to o flag down their waiter. Im definitely going to eat at here again and actually try food off their menu next time I'm back in Cabo! read more
