I first arrived around 6:15 PM. The area was packed and finding street parking was surprisingly difficult, so give yourself some extra time if you're driving. I also didn't have a reservation and was quoted about a 45-minute to one-hour wait for a walk-in. The woman at the front was very nice, though, and took my number for the waitlist. I used the time to drive over to Kerry Park for some sightseeing and came back around 7:30 PM. By then, my spot was ready and I was seated at the bar. I hadn't really eaten a proper lunch after the race, so at this point I was basically combining lunch and dinner. On the recommendation of the woman serving me at the bar, I ordered two half portions of pasta: Tajarin con burro e salvia -- $20 Fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with butter and sage. Cavatelli al ragù di costolette -- $24 Cavatelli with short rib ragù and marinated cherry tomatoes. While I was waiting, they also brought out a complimentary amuse-bouche with toast, fig, and a dark reduction. It was a nice little start to the meal. The tajarin with butter and sage came first. I was starving and finished it pretty quickly. They also served bread and long, thin, crunchy breadsticks that I believe were grissini. The pasta was good, although it didn't completely blow me away. I'd probably give that dish around a 3.5/5. Then came the cavatelli with short rib ragù. Oh my gosh, guys. This might genuinely be one of the greatest pasta dishes I've ever tasted. Somehow, it was even better than the spaghetti Bolognese I'd had at another Italian restaurant the night before. The short rib ragù was remarkable -- incredibly rich and flavorful -- and the cavatelli had this wonderful soft, chewy texture that worked perfectly with the beef ragù and tomatoes. Everything just came together. This was easily the highlight of the meal and one of my favorite Italian dishes I've had anywhere. The bar seating also ended up being pretty social. I talked with a guy next to me who had recently finished a triathlon, and chatted with another woman whose birthday was the following day. It made eating solo considerably more enjoyable. By the end, I was completely full. Considering those two half portions essentially became my post-race lunch and dinner combined, I thought it was well worth it. I'm giving Spinasse 5/5 largely because that cavatelli with short rib ragù was absolutely remarkable. I'd come back without question the next time I'm in Seattle -- and I'd probably order that exact dish again. One word of warning: I'd strongly recommend making a reservation, especially on a weekend. If you're dining solo, walking in and waiting for a bar seat can work, but I'd still be prepared to wait. 5/5 stars Last visited: August 30, 2026

When I say this is probably my FAVORITE pasta I've had in Seattle, I'm not kidding... I almost cleared my plate which is hard for me as my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, but I made it happen! The cream sauce was rich but not too heavy, and the truffle oil was prominent without being crazy overpowering. 10/10 absolutely no notes. Hands down would have trouble ordering something else when I visit again. Without a doubt, I will be returning in the future for a date night!

I the snap peas (which will be transitioned out soon so I advise you order this before it leaves the menu--tahini with mama lil peppers), half dozen oysters, homemade pea vine cavatelli, and the halibut with turmeric buerre blanc was delicate. Plates and silverware were changed out with each course and the attentive friendly service earned five stars. Sitting at the chef's table is advised if you are a foodie and want an interactive experience. I so enjoyed the conversations with the chef and the GM David. He creates all the cocktails and the wine list, he's phenomenal, and truly passionate about his craft. I couldn't choose between cocktails after dinner so he created a banana liqueur vanilla espresso martini as my after dinner cocktail. Every cocktail involves a home made ingredient and changes by the season. FYI, for the summer, this restaurant offers outdoor dining which is dog friendly. Looking forward to my next visit!

As far as the food, this restaurant often, as many will note, generally misses its culinary mark. The lamb shank, and only the lamb shank, has been the reason I and several of the people I know occasionally go there and brave their somewhat notoriously bad service but as it turns out, the cuisine has finally seceded to the fecklessness of the people working outside the kitchen. I cannot remember a time in the deepest recesses of my memory where I've experienced such a horrible dinner as to warrant me using Yelp to dissuade other people from eating somewhere (I've never done it) but here I am. The service was, as usual, brusque and hurried, and no amount of amazing cuisine (which simply does not exist here) could have prepared me for the sheer madness of this small restaurant's coterie of rude and aggressive servers. I worked there as a younger man as a busboy, this is several college degrees ago, and I sometimes would drop in. No more. While I recalled with memories not so fond of my time working there of the staff and the angry, mercurial, and abusive owner of the restaurant dropping food on the filthy floor and regardless, serving it, nothing could have prepared me for my experience last night. My mother, my fiance, and myself were all eating and toward the end, as the place was mostly empty except for maybe another five people, a man sat behind us who was waiting for his girlfriend to get off of work who also happened to be our server. He began to speak to my mother, progressively ruder to a point where he said things I won't soon forget. I tried to ignore it until my mother, who is 57, a retired lawyer, and who has been diagnosed recently with pancreatic cancer, became so upset that she stood up, disgusted and horrified, at which point we all began to try to escape. From there, the night deteriorated further. As my mother and my girlfriend and I safely exited, I saw that it was complete insanity for us to pay for the meal, not that money, was at all the issue. Our meal and our night had been utterly ruined by a non-customer waiting to pick his girlfriend up after work by amusing himself by badgering an older woman with sexual innuendo and things I wouldn't dare say to another woman, at dinner with her son no less. After that, the man that had started the problem at the very least had the good sense to offer to pay for the meal, among profuse apologies from him and our waitress, which I felt was the sensible and rational way to deal with what seemed to be perhaps the lowest point in my entire life as a customer in a place of business. It looked as if things might be settled, if not congenially, at least not horrifically. Then, out of nowhere, a thirty something who seemed to believe he was in charge, claiming he was the "nephew" of the owner of the restaurant said that he would be voiding the bill and that "we were not longer welcome". He began touching myself and my girlfriend and at that point, seemed to forget all notions of etiquette; becoming physical with unhappy customers seems to be the reason for this, my first foray into the world of Yelp. I've had a few bad experiences, like anyone that eats out with any regularity, but nothing, remotely like this. Between what I felt was assaultive, threatening, and aggressive behavior - I can with great certainty express my feelings that that dinner at La Rustica, which was clearly going to be my last, was hands down the VERY WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD, EVER. If you want overpriced, mediocre Italian cuisine, look elsewhere. A place where profanities and physical shows of aggression used against rightfully unhappy customers is not the kind of place I would care to visit. In retrospect, the least I can do is glean some irony from the statement the "nephew" of the owner made that "we were not welcome" there anymore - as if someone could have paid us to go back there is laughable had not the night turned so dangerously close to someone getting punched based on the recklessness of this angry "nephew" and the overall lack of customer service that I've witnessed both as a busboy long ago and more recently as a customer. One thing I can say is this: La Rustica is a forlorn place with a serious dearth of anything bordering on what might be called civility toward those that dine there. I hope that those that read this consider dining elsewhere. read more

In a party of two, I showed up expecting a wait. We were told it'd be an hour at the most. Then people who arrived sans reservation after us got seated before us. the Two and a half hours later, we were told our name got lost on the list. Still, we heard this place was great and proceeded. We were offered a free appetizer. Once seated, we watched waiters serve two tables that were seated after us. Two servers passed us by, and both of them waited on an adjacent table. After 10 minutes, we got a waiter and ordered the free app and drinks. We wanted a romantic experience, but our two-top was crammed next to a rambunctious table of eight, all who were loud and drunk. We ordered our food, but then decided to take it to go since the environment was unruly and unpleasant. Our bill came and fully charged us for the app, which we then asked to be removed, and it was, but the miscommunication was irksome. The noodles tasted store bought and the sauce was watery. The garlic bread was the only saving grace. The experience and price are not worth a visit. We will not be returning due to service, wait staff, close quarters and food quality. Try Mareé on Alki instead. Or even Proletariat Pizza for f*#k's sake. read more

We've tried La Rustica three times over the space of two years. We have friends who call this their favorite restaurant, so when we had a fairly "meh" experience the first time, we chalked it up to a bad night and went back again some months later. Sadly, it was "meh" then too. We ordered different things than the first time, thinking maybe we'd just picked the wrong entrees in our previous visit. But the food just seemed uninspired. Good, basic Italian fare, but nothing to write home about. At the urging of the friends who kept telling us the place was amazing, we went back a third time with another set of friends. This time all four of us told the server to bring us the chef's top 4 favorite items. I'm happy to say our meals were above average, but sad to say that they were still not something we'd go out of our way to come back to. I do give it high marks for charming, cozy, romantic atmosphere and an adorable outdoor patio. I love that a restaurant continues to thrive in a neighborhood setting, and clearly if it's made it this far through the economic rollercoaster, enough people must feel far more enthusiastic about it than we do... so take my comments with a chunk of truffle salt. :-) read more

Cannot speak highly enough of La Rustica. After seven (yes seven!) years eating here, I realized today that this is 'our restaurant.' The waiters are friendly, happy to be here and some have been serving us the entire time we've eaten here. How's that for employee satisfaction. We're getting to know them by name. The food is absolutely awesome. And the portions are so big that I can eat til I'm stuffed and take home over half the plate. I eat the leftovers for a couple days and love every meal. What a value!!!La Rustica is in a quiet beach front neighborhood on the back side of Alki. It's worth the view as you drive, and if there's a wait to be seated, you'll enjoy the little beach front park across the street. As it's in a neighborhood, parking right in front can be scarce, but we've never had to park more than around the block. Every reason to go here. Fall in the love with the restaurant like we did. La Rustica is my local Italian restaurant. I eat here every time I can justify the carbs. The small location is intimate, and the patio is wonderful in the summer. There really is nothing like riding a bike down Alki and stopping in for great food, a beach view, and a flowered patio... Something that could be addressed: if your eating inside in the winter pray you don't get seated near the door. Every time someone comes in, you get blasted with winter/sea air. Perhaps they could consider a thicker drape, or, even consider scheduled seatings every hour so people are not coming in and out so frequently. read more

I have to say, I go there often, usually on Sunday nights. I don't know why I haven't reviewed them until now except I'm technologically lazy. Anyway, they deserve all 5 big stars from me. They always remember my name, what we like to drink and eat and usually have our drinks ready for us before we even open our menus. It feels pretty great to be treated like that. The food is always amazing and the bread of course ...I can't stop! I wish they took reservations, we would come more often on the weekend, but such as it is! Food was good, everything else? NO! The servers were like robots rushing everything. From the drinks to the appetizers, and the entrees all showed up within 20 minutes of being seated. We were celebrating our 19th year anniversary and wrote that in the reservation notes so this dinner was special to us. We got the bill and the server said our $50 to reserve the table was applied to the check like they did us a favor. We paid and left no tip as didn't feel they exceeded or even met our expectations. We just adore this fabulous little Italian spot! Perfectly located on your way to or from Alki, you can really settle in and enjoy a great home-cooked meal. Every dish we had was outstanding and fresh. We had an excellent server, and sat on the patio to enjoy the sunset. This place is typically busy so be prepared for a small wait. This is by far our favorite restaurant! We take out of towners here often and everyone is blown away by the incredible selection and delicious food. It's a quaint setting right from the streets in a small Italian Town. The service is excellent and the recipes passed down to the owner from his family are superb. It's a small place with tables very close together, so don't plan to have any private conversations. Also, they don't take reservations, so get there earlier than you want to eat. Sauce didn't overpower other ingredients and cheese and toppings were fresh. Green peppers sliced thin enough to cook so they were done. Really decent pizza for the price. Really happy with the experience. Shows they care about the food. Will go back.

The new space is much larger and brighter, but it feels more like a modern bistro than the dark, classic neighborhood steakhouse it used to be. My wife loves the new location style and I can see this working for the urban hipster demographics that doesn't look for steak and baked potato. I believe Jak's use to be whole primal cuts--primarily Nebraska corn-fed beef--and committed to dry aging in-house for a full 28 days minimum. The new Brandt and Greater Omaha are perfectly fine steaks, respectable brands, but I think the steaks would be better if they were further dry aged and/or high heat seared. I can see the menu evolve to more of bistro food than a steak place in the future. That said, Happy Hour is definitely the sweet spot for me with reasonable prices and some great entrees. They have great drink options and good food combinations on the Happy Hour menu. If you're coming for casual drinks and bites it's a solid choice. If you're looking for that old-school steak dinner, it doesn't really hit the mark anymore and you need to switch to El Gaucho in Seattle that hits that mark.
