Hands down the best Italian food in the Charleston area. The family that run the place are from Italy. EVERYTHING is homemade from the sausage to even the cannoli shells, they even make those in house. Its a 10 out of 10 for sure. We have been dozens of time and I have tried MANY items from the menu. We came here for our anniversary dinner, and had a horrible experience. I will start by saying the girl that served us outside for happy hour was very lovely and had good service, and the one star is for her. We arrived for happy hour on Saturday at 3:45pm, planning to move inside for dinner at 5pm but knowing that it's difficult to get space inside on Saturdays without coming early - we were the very first people to sit outside. The happy hour selections we chose were fine, I would not recommend them as the marinara sauce both looked and tasted like watery sauces from a jar. Our waitress came during our meal around 4:20pm to ask if we planned to move inside for dinner, to ensure we were on the list. We noticed a man who appeared to be the owner walking around taking down names and checking on tables. Around 5pm almost everyone around us had moved inside for dinner (regardless of what time they arrived.) At 5:15pm the man comes over to us and says that there are no tables for 2 available, we can either sit at the bar or wait over an hour for a new table. We can see the list in his hand and see my name at the top uncrossed off, but decide to accept as to not cause scene. The couple sitting near us (who arrived maybe an hour after we did) also moved inside after us, but we noticed they were seated at an indoor dining table. At our bar table, service only gets worse. The bartender, who is understandably overworked, is kind of mean when we order our food (one pasta dish to start) and then forgets to bring us salad. When we ask another server for 2 salads (knowing that we plan to order more food) that server says of course yes, but then the bartender intervenes to bring us just one salad to share. After we finish our first pasta dish and order a second, she brings us a second salad - which doesn't make sense because we didn't intend to eat another salad in between courses? During our meal, the man who we believed to be the owner checks on every table in the bar, asks if anyone needs drink or bread refills, and then stops before our table (the last table in the bar space) and leaves before asking us how our meal is. I have no idea why our service was truly this bad, but we came early hoping to have a nice anniversary dinner and instead had a horrible one. There are other Italian restaurants in Summerville with great service and very delicious food - I would heartily recommend those instead! * I will preface this to say that this was a special occasion and this place was jam packed , and I'm sure everyone from wait staff to back of house was super busy. This place normally doesn't take reservations for only two people, but since it was Valentine's Day they did and I took my opportunity and snagged a reservation for 7pm. I was really looking forward to trying this place , so I had already looked at the menu and decided what I was going to get ahead of time. They had some things on the menu that I had never had before and was excited to try them. So the night comes, and we arrive a little early to a frantic , Sardine like packed house. I told the hostess that I knew we were early but I just wanted to check in to let her know we were there. It was about 15 min. Early. She said "whoa, You are super early . But I have bad news. The people at your reserved table had a 6:30 reservation ,but people in their party showed up late , so we will be late to seat you for your reservation." She was apologetic, kind of , but I kind of wanted to know what kind of place allows a reservation for 8 to sit without all people present and allows the reservation to go on after some of the party shows up 20 minutes late ? So my husband and I sit outside and wait , but luckily the hostess finds us another table and we didn't have to wait past our reservation time. Fantastic ! I sit down and realize it is a SEVERELY pared down menu and none of the things I wanted were on it. I guess that is how they are able to get so many people in. Super disappointed but ok. The app was ricotta with toasted bread. It was ok but could have used some salt. It was ok if you ate a briny olive with it. For the main, I chose the chicken parm and hubby chose wild boar shank. Both were good but not the best I ever had. I asked for mine to be boxed up and while I was waiting they took the bread off of the table that I was going to save for lunch the next day with my leftovers, so the waitress graciously brought me more. I noticed though that other tables were being given olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip the bread in which we never were offered. We ask to see the dessert menu but she lets us know of three things we could order instead. We chose the creme brûlée. We wanted a coffee to go with it but when I asked if any of the coffee choices could be made with decaf , she acted annoyed and said no. Big knock in points for not offering any coffee in decaf. So we ordered creme brûlée but teramisu came out. We had to send it back. I wish we hadn't. The creme brûlée came out with a slight dusting of sugar and no warm hard crackle that you expect. I think that they were just so busy the didn't bother with it .I also saw that the same waitress was offering different dessert choices to people around us that we weren't offered , which was weird , but ok...All in all I was kind of surprised and disappointed considering the price that we paid and how hard it is to get in , although we would like to try again when the normal menu is back and it's not so slammed that more attention can be taken for each customer, because I think it has potential. I will also say that walking up I immediately notice the beautiful outdoor space. The brick pavers are stunning , along with the fountain and lights make a very impressive first impression. read more

This is my absolute favorite restaurant and not just in Summerville but honestly all of Charleston. I am a foodie and the only other restaurants in Charleston that come close to It are Muse and wild olive . I enjoy staying close to home and have been here on three separate occasions, I have always tried something different Usually the chef special and their quality of food and service has always been outstanding, top-notch. On the pro side, it's beautiful inside and outside. I was also pleased that they have gluten free pasta. Staff was very friendly and the prices are reasonable. On the con side, however, the service was spotty. We were group of seven, and one person did not get her food when everyone else's came out, so our meals were no longer hot by the time hers arrived...after having to remind the server twice about it. The food is good, but not spectacular by any means. It got bad at the end though, and it completely ruined it for us. We were aware that the wouldn't do separate checks, which if fine. They said before we ordered that it was perfectly okay for us to pay separately. So, at the end, they brought out a check, but it wasn't totaled...tax was not included. Whatever, oksy. But when one in our group started to say which items he was paying for, the server refused and said we had to tell her the amount to put on each card. Every restaurant that I've been to with a no separate check policy has been fine with each party stating what hey had and changing their card accordingly. Not this place. Instead, we had to calculate each parties amount, while guessing what the total would be with tax. We gave her our cards and told her how much to put on each one. She did not write it down. Thus ensued a frustrating round of her charging our cards, discovering she was charging the wrong amounts on everyone's cards, reversing the charges, and doing it all over again...incorrectly yet again, because she again didn't write it down... In the end we all left confused, none of us knowing what's been charged to who. We'll all be checking our accounts tomorrow to see who has been charged what. Who knows? This should not have been this difficult! Restaurants do this every day without problems, but this one couldn't seem to get things straight. It was frustrating and ruined what was otherwise a really pleasant evening. Oh, and when we pointed out that one person's meal hadn't come out, someone (a manager?) came and explained that the person preparing the food was 77 years old, overwhelmed because they were busy, and he moves slow. read more

The fact that this restaurant only has 4 Stars reminds me that Babe Ruth wasn't a unanimous choice for the baseball Hall of Fame. This place is AWESOME! We've been twice and the food is excellent! I highly suggest the Bruschetta and the Rigationi Filetto al Barberais impeccable. The only thing I recommend is getting their early. They don't take reservations unless you are a party of 6 or more. As much as it hurts me to say this, my husband and I had been looking forward to LR's Charcuterie board for months and finally went Friday night 7/25/25. I was so disappointed. The only cheeses on the board were Gorgonzola crumbles and shaved Parmesan pieces like what you get out of a bag. The Gorgonzola was great quality but my husband is not a fan. There were only 3 olives and 3 small pieces of toast. The salami, prosciutto and mortadella were great along with the fig jam. It just appeared second thought and thrown together like they were unprepared. The last time we had this amazing cheese with orange bits and Brie. If you order it, just want you to know not to expect too much. If they had the carrot cake they used to serve, it would have made the meal worth returning. Service was great and even in 100 degree weather, the porch was very cool and comfortable. We will return but can only hope they improve the charcuterie appetizer back to the former high standard. read more

We've been looking for a good Italian restaurant for two years now since moving to SC and we no longer need to look. We have been to La Rustica 3 times now and the food is absolutely delicious. We've enjoyed Lasagna, Chicken Parm, Chicken Limon, Manicotti and a Shrimp Spiedo entree. All dishes were excellent. What a cool place!! It's a transformed house in a beautiful neighborhood. We sat outside in one of the "bubbles". Food options were plentiful and very affordable. Service was fantastic and they worked very well together. Let's get to the real fan favorite here though...THE BREAD!! Guys that bread is magical, we went through 6 baskets without missing a beat. We're still talking about this garlic bread deliciousness two weeks later!! Our pastas were very good, but the bread is the absolute game changer! Overall I thought it was okay. They definitely have some growing pains to work out. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a rush or expect to get in and out in an hour. We luckily had a table of 5 so we could make a reservation but I feel like this could be improved to a better system. They also were unable to split our check properly (they could only split it evenly vs by each person's actual meals). Overall it was very loud but that didn't bother our table. I could see it being an issue if you're on a date hoping for a romantic ambience though. You'll have to project to hear each other on a busy Saturday night like we went on. -I stuck with red wine to compliment my dish but others from our table ordered cocktails and said they were good. -We ordered one of the bruschetta intruglios and it was a little too salty for my taste because of the olives. That's just a personal preference. I won't ding them for that. -Fettuccine linguini was ok. I was a little underwhelmed by the flavor and presentation. Only 2 lamb meatballs. -The special lamb shank was amazing. I'd come back for that dish. It was so tender the meat fell off the bone and the marinade was divine. -Tiramisu was a little underwhelming. I was hoping for a hint more of a coffee flavor. The crème brûlée was good but nothing I'd go out of my way for again. read more

This is an information yelp, for those with groups of five or more. We had reservations for 8 people at 6 pm but didn't get shown to the table til 6:12? This starts the night off. Our server Sarah was very pleasant and got us going. I decided to have the mussels as I have had them before, The broth they make them in is quite fabulous but these were the smallest mussels I ever had. You had to look for them in the shell and if one was over an inch in length- I didn't see it---total disappointment! I had the nightly Special of Eggplant Parmesan, which was awesome. Most everyone at the table was pleased with their food. My warning to all is more service releated. Meals didn't all come out together, more disappointment, and quite poor considering the prices you are paying here. Naturally if there were only two of you would not see this. This became worse with the ensuing coffee service and desert. I would say the service was erratic and disjointed. Really, can't they train these people to provide proper service? Paying $25-35 for a meal qualifies for excellent service, yet they were lost. Thus my rating of 3. read more

Omg....ok let's just start with the phone call to the restaurant...I noticed online they don't take reservations for parties under 5...strange..but, whatever...so I called and she was very informative..so thank you for that! I asked about walking in, on a Friday night around 6:30-7:00 and she said that it wouldn't be too bad for only 2 people..so we did just that..we walked in at 6:45...on a Friday night..and were sat right away!! Great start to date night!! I was served water right away and bread was brought for the table...yummmmmmmy bread!!!!! I pretty much ate mine by the time hubs got there after having to find a place to park..if there was ANY complaint for tonight, it's that there isn't enough parking right by the restaurant...not a big deal right..because a good walk is great for health after a fabulous meal..so we will leave it at that...I ordered my Prosecco and hubs ordered his usual...sweet/unsweet tea with lots of lemon...Prosecco came in a fancy dancy glass...lol and his tea came with 1 lemon...he didn't complain, so it must have been good tea...we ordered 1 of their 4 types of bruschetta...it was tasty..too many tomatoes for my taste but still good...I ordered the penne with Italian sausage and hubs ordered the filet (med-rare) with a side of pasta and veg...my pasta was delish...although I assumed the sausage was gonna be cut up and throughout my pasta...nope...a big sausage link on top of my penne...still yummy, but kind of strange to have this big sausage link on top of my pasta that I had to cut up to eat WITH my pasta ...hubs filet came out looking great..it came rare, which is what he wanted anyways..so big win there!! Now, for anyone who needs to know...my hubs is a HUGE salt fan...no matter how much salt I add to his meal, he ALWAYS adds more..well we specifically asked for a salt shaker (cuz that's how he rolls) but..and I repeat BUTTTTTT...no salt needed...his steak was perfectly seasoned...YAY FOR La RUSTICA!! My wife had salmon the last time and it was great and the last two times I've been there with her. I've had the filet with pepper. The service is great, and they really take care of you. My family and I had an amazing night at La Rustica Thursday night! I had originally booked for Friday, but I cancelled the reservation and thought I made it for Thursday. When I realized I didn't get a confirmation text on Thursday I panicked because we had a party of 8. The owner was more than accommodating and was able to move some things around so we could sit inside with our big party! Thank you! First of all, our waitress, Ray, was a gem. She was personable, knowledgeable and attentive. If you can ask for her...do it! She is seriously a ray of sunshine! For an appetizer we ordered the mussels. The white wine sauce was to die for!! The salads came out and the lemon vinaigrette is something I need at home...light and refreshing. For entrees I got the rigatoni with the filet, the sauce was creamy and comforting. My husband got the bolognese and it was delicious. My dad got the chicken cacciatore and it was tender and flavorful. The rest of my party got the grouper special and seafood ravioli special...all delicious. And y'all the bread is something we went through baskets and baskets because it's so good! Seated outside front porch, restaurant calls it a "veranda". Freezing cold, table of 10-12 beside obnoxiously loud. Our table had to ask them to keep it down. Went through three glasses of water and two baskets of bread before dinner arrived. Received dinner at 7:00. Small portions, salad was no more than lettuce thrown on a plate with a slice of lemon.
