I very rarely go to Carson City for food. But after going and visiting the Hot Springs the family and I and our family friends were all pretty hungry. They had tried La Salsa Grill before and said it was really good so we decided we would give it a try and we stopped in for lunch. My wife's go to dish whenever we had a Mexican restaurant is the chili Riano. So that is what she ordered and needless to say she really enjoyed it. I, on the other hand, Love to try new weird kinds of foods. Growing up my mom used to make cow tongue and I remember really enjoying it but it had been at least a decade since I've had one. So when I saw that there was a cow tongue in green sauce I had to give it a try. After a cautious first try the beef tongue was amazing super tender melt in your mouth wonderfulness. My kids are pretty picky when it comes to eating food one child of which will eat nothing more than the usual mac & cheese and that may be a cheese rollup but he enjoyed the nachos with chicken with the pico de gallo on the side you know cause that has green stuff in it which are clearly is poison for children. All in all I La Salsa Grill was really good. The only thing I would've liked more would be the complementary chips and salsa where the first basket is free, like cocaine, and each additional basket is $1.99. But other than that the restaurant was fantastic. read more

This place is pretty special. It is across the street from In n Out burgers and that is tough to pass up for a quick lunch. However, since I do like good Mexican food, I thought I would at least give it a try based upon the good Yelp ratings. The ratings were thoroughly justified. First off, the service was very personal and pleasant. They weren't fast-food fast, but since this is a sit-down restaurant, I apply a looser standard. Once we were asked for our drink order, things went very quickly and our order was delivered soon thereafter. The best thing about this location is the food. My wife tried their Quesadilla in chicken and I tried Chicken Enchiladas. My past experience has been that I have to acclimate to the seasonings on the Enchiladas before I learn to enjoy them the most. Here was a dramatic exception. The taste was perfect; good chicken flavor accented with interesting seasonings cooked perfectly. my wife's Quesadilla was just as good. The seasonings very much improved a traditional Quesadilla! We visited this restaurant for the first time this week. The service was friendly and attentive. Our group each ordered different menu items and of the 4 we were impressed with 3 of them. The tamales, street tacos and chili relleno were excellent. The fish tacos should be avoided. They were very small and rolled in flour tortillas. I tried a bite and could only taste coleslaw with a heavy dressing and the flour tortilla. I asked for an order of corn tortillas and transferred the filling. I was surprised to find a very tiny bit of shredded fish in the coleslaw filling. These fish tacos were not impressive. read more

Im new to the area and searching for a local taqueria to frequent. i was anxious to try La Salsa after reading the previous reviews. It seemed promising when we walked in the door. There was more Latinos than gringos inside the dining room. Tempted by a lot of items on the menu. Lots of authentic options. I went the gringo route and ordered the Burrito Bañado (wet burrito). To be honest, i was disappointed. I did not care for the bañado sauce. it was really sweet and reminded me of ketchup. The meat was chopped too fine and turned out dry. it was good, but i wont order it again. Overall, the place was clean, staff was attentive and food came out in a timely manner. Well named, the salsa here is excellent. The rest was a pretty big disappointment though. The chicken à la Diabla tasted like they just dumped a half a bottle of Tapatio in the enchilada sauce. I like very picante...and I even like Tapatio..., but there was no other flavor in the dish. Yay! We finally found great Mexican food close to South Lake Tahoe! We have one or two that are pretty good, but they either are take out places or they are not consistently good. A friend told me about La Salsa and since we were headed to Carson City the next day, we decided to check it out. Apparently, there are at least two locations--we will go to the Topsy Lane location next time, simply because it's closer to home. This restaurant looks like your typical Mexican place with colorful décor inside. It looked clean and although mildly busy, the tables were bussed quickly. The waiter was knowledgable and attentive, although not very friendly. My measure of new place is to try the tamales. To my disappointment, they were out that day, so I had one of the several specials, suggested by the waiter, Chicken Empanadas. I had never had these before and was pleasantly surprised. It's like a fried chicken taco, with all the fillings inside and a drizzle of sauce and cheese outside. It sounds heavy, being fried, but it was very light and crispy with good chicken flavor. It came with the usual rice and refried pinto beans, which were a little salty (the beans) for my taste, but good. The rice was really bland so I spiced it up with some salsa. They offer homemade chips and salsa which were both very good. However, don't ask for a refill on the chips or be ready to pay $1.99...really? As it turned out, the chips were thick and filling so we really didn't want more. I also had a margarita on the rocks and it was very good. I meant to ask if they make their own sweet and sour mix, but forgot. It was not too sour, as many are--I liked it. We will definitely go again! Looking forward to it! read more

I ordered a side of guacamole to start, the taste was ok, nothing special but instead of in a bowl it came spread out on a plate. It seemed there was about 1/4 of an avocado there. For my entree I ordered my favorite dish Carne Asada Plate. The rice was close to mushy and the meat was tough, way over cooked, 1/4 was grizzle & fat. It was described to me as a hole in the wall place, but the actual restaurant is quite big and has two giant tvs playing sports games. What makes it probably kinda hole-in-the-wall-ish is that the guys who work there just kinda hang out by the kitchen/bar and the decor is a big spacey. The food there was surprisingly delicious! I tried their carne asada off of my sister-in-law's plate and was astonished at how delicious it was. I dont know why my hubs never took me here all the times we have been back in carson. This trip, we came here like 3 or 4 times. The takeout portion for the carne asada was a lot smaller than eating in, but im not sure if it was a one-off thing or it's always like this.
