I had it with risotto, but spaghetti marinara was a choice, too. I didn't want red sauce with salmon. The salmon was a bit dry. Risotto was flavorful and soft. We both had an interesting assortment of roasted vegetables. Hubby enjoyed his lasagna. We also got a basket of crispy Italian bread and a plate of olive oil with a sprinkle of basil in it. Hands down in our top two restaurants in Lafayette/West Lafayette! We love this place. It is all about the food! The food is quality and consistently delicious. The owner has a farm and uses a lot of the produce she grows herself for the freshest ingredients. The variety on the menu is fabulous as well. They always have exceptional daily specials. It's always so hard to decide what to order! The negative is that it is only open for dinners on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. They used to be open more than than as well as for lunch (they had a fantastic lunch menu!) so that's a disappointment. The place is also clean, but I would like to see them replace their tables and chairs. The chairs are old and you sink down so low. The tables don't have a smooth surface and crumb debris gets caught. This is the only authentic, quality Italian place in town so I hope it sticks around for a long time! With her decreasing the hours from what she had before, I worry she'll eventually close. It would be a huge loss to the community if it did. read more

I was disappointed because I thought it would be better since it's farm to table. If you really want Italian in Lafayette this place is fine. It wasn't expensive. Our meal was around $44. I really enjoyed my time at La Scala! If you're not dining solo, you really do need a reservation. I tried to book one but couldn't get through. I decided to just show up and they were able to seat me at the bar right away while other parties waited for their tables to clear up. The bartender was so great and super attentive. Crazy good! I finally get the fuss about this place, had been hearing happy thoughts from other locals and finally got to herd myself here with three foodie friends. We found a lovely quite busy Friday evening with filled indoor seating enjoying a quaint old fashioned atmosphere and ushered outside able to take in the setting sun shadows during the meal. During a short wait while many others took their time ordering, we discovered a fabulous menu sampling all sorts from the sea to farm and between. Look at those menu photos! Plenty to treat a wide range, liking the zucchini and gluten free noodle options, and we got real tempted for the cocktails but held off but myself doing a Peroni since never having one before. Sadly their entire draft happened to be down, thankfully the dessert menu was exquisite, but we somehow worked ourselves well full on wonderful bread, apps, and dishes. Our server was friendly and kept up most of the evening with us. I was excited with the gnocchi. The others seemed to share similar vibes with their pastas, chicken, scallops, and lamb. We will be back for sure and again go for an easy top three pick for Lafayette's restaurants. This rounds out my downtown favorites with Town & Gown and Bistro 501. read more

I was glad to see that La Scala survived the pandemic, and I've been there several times since! Our experience here left quite a bit to be desired. Things started off on a shaky note when we realized the menu was significantly smaller than what had been advertised online. A minor letdown, but we were still hopeful. Unfortunately, the food didn't do much to turn things around. The scallops were disappointingly small and had an overly strong fishy taste--not exactly the refined flavor we expected. The side of "roasted vegetables" was, in reality, mostly roasted onions with a few cameo appearances from other veggies. Midway through the meal, the ambiance took an unexpected turn when the hostess began bussing a table in the middle of the dining room--clearing dishes with such dramatic volume that the entire restaurant turned to watch. It was the kind of noise you don't typically associate with a relaxing dinner. The evening wrapped up with what can only be described as an early closing routine. At 8:55 PM, staff began flipping chairs onto tables around us--even though a good portion of the diners were still eating. It sent a pretty clear message: time's up. While the restaurant may have potential, our visit felt rushed, underwhelming, and more memorable for the wrong reasons. read more

This is my second time coming here and this has been the best experience! Our server Alexis was absolutely incredible and made our celebration for my friend's birthday very special. We ordered aperol spritz and a peach Bellini which were both very delicious! The side salad was absolutely delicious as well. For my main I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and it was by far the best fettuccine Alfredo I have ever had. It was so good I could barely breathe, I was gasping for air. Oh La Scala. We gave you a try about a decade ago and we tried again recently. We want to believe in this place. The patio is fairly lovely and the servers try to be polished. Sadly, that can't distract from the overcooked pasta (mushy), strange meat choices (chewy chicken in a tomato sauce based dish?), the canned seafood taste (skip the crab), the flavorless entrees (salt the water and the ingredients), and people leaving full plates of food as they leave their tables. Looking around, many diners would only take a few bites, and then run off without boxes. Not exaggerating. The red flags surrounded us. It was strange to sit down and see bird crap on tables, and servers were not cleaning them. Note that these were not sat tables while we were there. The way the dining space is handled by staff is also how the kitchen and food will be handled. Even when outside, a poo-less table will matter to health inspectors if it is going to be used. I'm sure that there is a strong, loyal following for this local place, but we are definitely not it. This isn't considered a hole in the wall and I think the chef has phoned it in. When you're dropping a fairly substantial amount of money on a meal and leave most of it for their trash, a return in the next decade is unlikely. Something more positive- The cocktails were fine. Neutral or meh- The cannoli is not freshly made, just something from a box and difficult to eat. Again, I'm sure there are more positive experiences. Just not for us. read more

Pretty good Italian in what seems to be a chain restaurant mecca. Food was tasty, but the service (though friendly) was sorely inexperienced, uninformed and out of her element. She admitted that she hadn't tasted anything on the menu, as the owners charge them for food and had never offered a tasting. Bread was "over herbed", house dressing too vinegar, but both the ravioli bolognese and stuffed chicken were tasty. It may be time to brighten things up. i had the special which was ashrimp and chicken pasta. the shrimp was well cooked and the flavor of the sauce was good but it was so oily from the cheese. Ummm...so I got the Pasta Fresca with chicken because I wanted something simple. I make a dish at home with raw tomatoes and fresh herbs so I expected that, only better from a restaurant at $18.00. I feel very certain that I got noodles topped with a can of peeled Roma tomatoes and maybe freshly made chicken. It looked and tasted *exactly* like that. That's not exactly a bad flavor, but for the price I paid it's outrageous. The service and ambiance (the room right inside the patio) was excellent. I will definitely go again and get something more complicated. Maybe they focus on those with family recipes or something, and my dish is just a throwaway for them. But $18? read more

Gothic archway and stained glass on the front entryway. Lovely outdoor seating area with the rustic charm of Italy itself. Did I also mention that they are farm to table and chef-owned? Yep, everything you could ever want to support in a local restaurant is here at La Scala! I came here with some friends, and everyone LOVED their entrees and drinks. Definitely Try their lasagna. It's fresh, homemade and amazing! You also get your money's worth here. I couldn't finish all of my food, even though I wanted to. The server was very knowledgeable in what items were gluten-free, and if he didn't know he would go and ask the chef. Superb customer service. My best friend has raved about this place for years, but we had never tried it, so when we were picking a place to have a slightly belated Valentine's Day dinner (February 15th), I figured it was time to finally try La Scala. The restaurant is small and intimate. I wouldn't really recommend it for groups. There are a few four seater tables, but it looked like most of the tables were for two. However, the tables are very close together (very European style), so if you're looking for a quiet place where you won't hear the conversations of people around you, this may not be the place for you. It wasn't too bad for us, although my chair was touching the chair of the woman behind me. The tables were lovely, set with white tablecloths and tea lights. The meal starts with water an bread service. The bread does come with olive oil and spices for dipping (yum!), but the bread has olives in it, so if you're not an olive fan, be aware. You can pick most of them out if you want to though. We didn't get any appetizers, though the shrimp and crab dip sounded really good (and then the table next to us ordered it, and it looked delicious, but my husband would never eat it and it was definitely too much for me!). I was torn between the seafood ravioli and the lobster & shrimp mac and cheese; our server recommended the mac and cheese, so that's what I went with. My husband ordered the pollo ripieno without the red pepper cream sauce. My husband said his dish was very flavorful, even without the sauce. I absolutely LOVED the mac and cheese. The Grand Marnier cream sauce was lovely, the mozzarella on top was extra melty, and I thought the orange was a thoughtful (and tasty) touch. There was also way more seafood than I expected; there were whole shrimp, large chunks of lobster, and it seemed to be almost as much seafood as pasta! Unfortunately, we had to cut our evening short (our babysitter called to say our youngest had gotten sick), but our server, Beau, was awesome about getting us the check quickly, boxing up the rest of my meal (I don't think I'd ever had someone else box up my leftovers for me before!), and getting me a cannoli to go (the cannoli was delicious, btw -- very smooth filling!). Excellent dinner! The menu is robust and great variety. The bread and olive oil is wonderful start to the meal. Each pasta comes with soup or salad. The entrees were plentiful. For entrees, my husband had the risotto and said it was outstanding! I had the Miguel Angelo and was pleased. The sauce was a little thin but taste was delightful. Great drinks and wonderful service. We tried a few speciality cocktails and our server was attentive and very friendly. Unfortunately, this is where the positives end. Risotto could have came from a box. Two in our party ordered the lamb, both thought it was below par, especially for the price. Overall, we had a similar bill to when we dine at Bistro 501 with significantly lower quality of food. I probably won't go back unless I hear the food quality has improved, I'd rather go to east end grill, bistro 501, or 8Eleven for fine dining in the area. My fiancé and I love to come here for special occasion date nights and we always tell people that it is one of our favorite restaurants ever. We talked about it so much that our families joined us for a meal for a celebration we were having. They all enjoyed the food as well! My family is from out of town, and they were raving about their meal and how they couldn't wait to go back. They still talk about how good the food was! We always joke that we would make the 3 hour drive just for La Scala's food! It's that good!! I seriously cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I've only ever dined inside, and the atmosphere is really nice. It's quiet, intimate, and cozy. I would love to dine outside as well though! They have a really pretty patio area with lights. We haven't been here since Covid. Their hours are greatly reduced and it made it hard to make a reservation. They are only open Thursday - Saturday 5:30-9:30. The food was good but we were disappointed in the atmosphere. We made reservations to celebrate 2 birthdays. We were placed in the bar area and the music was very loud. It wasn't as nice an atmosphere as we had previously. Our waiter did a good job but never asked if we had a special occasion. When one of our party mentioned a birthday his response was "Oh good". It was a good experience but could have been a great experience. We will come back to see if this was just an off night. read more

Ordered an appetizer that never arrived but luckily we also were not charged for it. Entrees were mediocre but smothered in sauces and cheese. Sauces were thick but not rich. Flavor fell a little short too. Dessert was the saving grace as the cannoli was legitimately good and quite authentic. Wine selection was fine and they were kind enough to offer sampling's as well to my coworker who was undecided. Menu is vast and offers something for all. I would welcome pictures of their "wheelchair accessible bathroom". We haven't dined there in a few years, ever since a HORRIBLE Valentine's Day dinner date with my now husband. We were having a lovely meal but he needed to go to the bathroom. I spoke to the waiter because my husband needs assistance in the bathroom, so I wanted to let the waiter know that we would both be leaving the table (and I would be taking my purse) but we were coming back and not to take our meal. We went to the women's because it was a bit larger to get the wheelchair in. There were no grab bars anywhere (30 years after ADA) and the sink did not look sturdy enough to put your full weight on. Since he really had to go, I tried to help him stand up and brace himself against the walls. That did not work and he ended up falling to the floor. It took us a while to get him stood back up, with nothing to grab on to but we finally managed it. Then we tried the men's room. It was much smaller and narrower but with a LOT of help from me, he got stood up, was able to brace against both walls (like in the Ninja Warrior tower climb) and complete his business. When we finally got back to our table some 25 minutes later, they had completely cleared both plates and had assumed we had dined and dashed. Despite me explicitly telling the waiter where we were and the horrible and extremely embarrassing time we had in the bathroom. It ruined our night and I can't think of any excuse that justifies letting a customer fall to floor because they didn't want to put in a few grab bars. The bathrooms were very tastefully decorated and had obviously been remodeled since the late 80's. read more
