Visited La Sorpresa today for baked goods and a plate for lunch, cafeteria-syulr. Baked goods were fresh. I loved the churros. The plate I ordered had white rice and beans, chicharrones, and I added a sausage on the side. Very filling. They do update the menu frequently. Staff doesn't really speak English, but they were fast and prompt. Although there is a lot of seating in the bakery, La Sorpresa to me feels more like a grab and go spot, especially when it is located on a busy main street. I'd definitely go back for another quick bite!

I've been on an empanada kick lately so I came in to try theirs based on other reviews. They were good, but I definitely like the ones at caprichos antioquenos restaurant & bakery better. Their dough is lighter and fluffier. These were a little dried out/over cooked. They also charge for hot sauce which I found to be a turn off. Like getting fries and being charged for ketchup m.

Delicious empanadas! I also loved that they had Huy Fong's Sriracha on the tables and very strong rooster decor. See photos. There was only one customer in line ahead of us when we arrived for a late lunch around 2:30 pm. Aside from the roosters, there is not a ton of atmosphere inside, but the food is delicious and the service friendly. They also have a nice patio with plenty of outdoor seating. There is some lot parking and also street parking. Aside from the empanadas they also serve chorizo, pastries and baked goods as well as a variety of sodas, beer and wine and delicious fresh fruit juice. The passion fruit one was delicious!

My go-to for Colombian food. Everything I've ever tried here has always been really good. Fast and friendly customer service always. Definite bang for your buck here.

A piece of plastic in my empanada!

Don't buy food from this place! They gave me an empanada with plastic in it! That is so unacceptable. You don't know what else could of been in another customers food that they could of swallowed! Don't come here please for your own health.

Little goes a very long way. I also tried the chicharrone (which has yelp can't spell for me) and it was very interesting. Good. Very very crunchy- gave nice strong teeth and nice pork flavor. Also not greasy. Also tried the plantain- I am partial to the sweet ones. This was ok I just like 'em sweeter. I look forward to going back. Ladies behind counter were super. Colombian music playing so created atmosphere while we sat and ate. Lovely experience.

Parking can be challenging especially seeing this restaurant runs on Lonsdale Ave a busy street in itself. The line was out the door and that's where I stood waiting patiently. The love moves at a decent pace. Here finally my turn and I honestly had no clue what to expect or what they even really sold but I was hoping they had anything that contained ham and cheese and they did, Brad with ham and cheese for $3.50 I was surprised that was all. They do gave finger foods, drinks coffee and fruit drinks, breads, pastries of many sorts. I was tempted to get a pastry but I stayed focused. The bread was actually good and tasted fresh they only concern which was a big one for me was that there was hardly any ham and cheese in it and I mean like barely none. I could have actually went with just bread as that's what I felt I received. Would I return maybe especially if I am in mood for something g sweet as the variety was plenty to choose from. There is a sit down area on both sides of the restaurant with one big screen tv. This place seems more of a grab and go type establishment. They open at 5:00am and close at I believe 9:00 pm

This place is massive, with lots of tables to dine in, and a bakery section. We ordered the following: Mondongo (pequeño), bandeja paisa, lengua sudada, and res apanada. The food came out in about 20 minutes. The serving sizes were a little bigger than normal (I am not complaining), every plate looked delicious, and all the plates were hot and fresh. The mondongo was tasty and had a good amount of tripe and the right thickness of the broth. I chuckled when I saw the side of banana, but honestly, it made for a good desert. The bandeja paisa brings a litte bit of everything and it all was cooked well. The lengua sudada was very tender and flavorful and the yucca was soft, with the sauce it was in giving it a really good flavor. The res apanada was a bit tough and the breading did not stick on too well, but overall the flavor was good and the breading was crispy which I enjoyed. The best part of it all was the prices. It is very affordable and you will leave full.   The bakery is inexpensive and the items I have tried and good. They do have a large parking lot and it's free. While in the area, you could visit the Slater Mill (they have tours you could sign up for) or visit the public library. One thing to note is that the GPS might bring you to their old location a couple blocks up the street, so do a little bit of research for the address beforehand.
