Food/Drinks: I've been coming here since I was little, and the food has always been very delicious. I really love their bandeja Paisa because it's shareable, and the food is so good. I do have to say, though, that I have noticed from when I was younger to now that they have definitely made their portions smaller, and they don't add the chicharrón like they did in the past. :( Still good, but because of this, I tend to go to another Colombian restaurant. Location: This location is spacious, and it's clean. Perfect to go with family or to just grab a bite. You can go casual, but some people dress up depending on how you want to go, but it's pretty casual in my opinion. They offer street parking. Service: I truly love the service. Our first visit to try the Colombian food at El Paisa was great. We were greeted warmly and told we could sit wherever we liked. We ordered drinks (the sangria was delicious!) and also ordered the Picada appetizer which consisted of Chorizo, Chicharrón, Yuca Fries, and Creole potatoes. When the appetizer arrived, I knew we had come to a great restaurant! Oh my goodness, the deliciousness was unmatched! The Yucca fries were hot and crispy on the outside with a soft & mealy interior. The chorizo and chicharron were both flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the potatoes were amazing as well. The appetizer portion was so generous, that all three of us ate our fill and there was still plenty to take home. For an entree, I ordered Steak with sweet plantains, tostones, and salad. All were delicious, especially when paired with the savory sauces on the table. We all wanted to try dessert and chose the tres leches cake and flan. Wow - I've never been served such large slices of both of these, and they were so flavorful and rich. El Paisa is located in Central Falls. There are many Colombian, Mexican, and other latin restaurants in the neighborhood. El Paisa has a few parking spots reserved, but there is street parking available as well. We had to park on the street since all the reserved spots were taken. El Paisa is a fairly large restaurant with plenty of seating. When we first arrived around 12:00pm on a Sunday, there weren't too many people but once it was 12:30pm - 1:00pm, the restaurant was packed with families. It feels like a great place for friends and family gather. There are Botero paintings on the wall (I enjoy his paintings). They also have a large patio but since it was February, it was not set up. The menu was all in Spanish, but I knew enough to read and order. We started with the Jugo de Mango and Jugo de Guanabana in milk. It was very good. I ordered the Mini Bandeja Paisa #3 which has rice, beans, chorizo, fried egg, chicharron, arepa - round corn bread, plantain, and your meat choice. I chose pork. The dish was very filling and everything was flavored really well. My husband had the Calentado. This is rice mixed with beans, beef, scrambled eggs, arepa - flat maize bread, and Colombian cheese. The portion for this dish was huge and we had to take leftovers home. We also ordered a side order of yuca. The yuca was crispy and tasty. Service was a little slow near the end. We had to wait a while for a takeout box and for the check. The menu mentioned a 3% surcharge for credit cards so we paid cash. There is also an ATM if you want to take cash out. There were a lot of menus, which was a bit confusing, but our orders were placed quickly. Our mango juices came quickly. You can choose milk or water as the base for the juices. It's been a while since I have been to El Paisa. Our last meal was good. We ordered a bandeja with Churrasco. The piece of meat was of good size and prepared very well. It came with rice, beans, chicharron, arepas and fried plantain. Delicious.... My step son got the "bandejita" ... similar but he got chorizo and a fried egg with his meal. The service is ok....nothing excellent, just kind of basic. I speak Spanish with the waitress, so I don't know if their English is good for the American clientele. I wanted empanadas but around dinner time, they don't make them anymore....they make them fresh in the morning and early afternoon, but then they stop making them around mid afternoon......so they don't have leftovers of unsold empanadas at the end of the day....so get your empanadas early during the day... read more

I went to el Paisa to pick up take out and I was told 30 minutes for the food over the phone, when I arrived at the restaurant I had to wait an additional 45 minutes for the food to be ready. The service was very slow and customers that were waiting on the waiter just walked out because it was so slow. read more

As soon as u walk in it smells, like musty, old, foul, that shouldve been our cue to turn around but we had been on the road for long hours so we said wth.... Steak was old and honestly going bad? Chorizo was not good at all, chicharon picada was fried one too many times, sancocho de carne was meh, arepa burger was not a burger it was a bunch of shreded chicken and stick fries on top of an undercooked arepa. A friend gave us a gift certificate to El Paisa and we were going to be in the neighborhood so we decided to give it a try. And we are soooo glad that we did! We went for an early dinner on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was bustling with families and couples dining on Columbian deliciousness. We asked a lot of questions of our delightful server and she totally steered us in the right direction. To start, we tried the cheese ball and beef empanada. We enjoyed the crunch of the empanada so we also got the chicken. I liked the beef one better and hubby liked the chicken but we both agreed that the spicy green salsa was outstanding! He ordered the Presidente beer to try something new - a very good lager. I ordered a lime margarita with salt - zippy and refreshing. Next time, I will get the sangria which is their specialty cocktail. The pièce de résistance of the meal was the stunning fried fish. OMG! We ate the entire fish. Very crispy skin, not oily at all, with succulent white meat. So good! Hubby decided to go with the grilled steak which was perfectly cooked. So many sides! Enough for four people and a little of everything. I'm a huge fan of chicharron and their version was delicious. The entire bill for this feast for $63 (includes 2 beers and 1 cocktail). This place has been around for years!! Love it then, love it now. Had been a bit since I had gone and notice that they have done many updates. Very nice out door patio and a new bar. Unfortunately to cold to be outside. All I can say the food is still amazing, the service and plentiful. I still can not eat the whole plate, but I'm happy taking leftovers. LOL. The food is amazing, it tastes like home. The best part is the price, huge portions for a really cheap amount of money. It's a shame that the service is so bad; the servers are nowhere to be found, we were waiting for the check for 15 minutes in an almost empty restaurant. Prices are fair since the fish was huge!! Idk if its a typo but they have empanadas but it's listed as "Empadas" (beef pie) which was okay. I don't believe it was fried. Every time my husband and I go there we have a great time. Staffs are kind and they are always very helpful too. We are not Columbian so we are not familiar with many dishes. But we can ask them they explain to you and give you recommendations. I love that. The fried fish was the best fried fish I ever had in US! And we love their pastries too. 6 years later - still obsessed with this place. My husband and I came here when we were going to Providence to shop on a Saturday. We started with beef empanadas. I realized we decide if empanadas are good based on the hot sauce (pico de gallo sort of hot sauce). Their empanadas are filled with beef, so good. AND THAT HOT SAUCE. we were in heaven. it was spicy and fresh and homemade. Then he got the mini bandeja paisa that came with chorizo and I got the regular that came with chicharron. just how i remember it and so delicious we were so happy. New addition to this visit, our 5 month old son. He's not yet eating solids but tasting things - and the beans we had on our plate were the first thing he didnt make a face to lol. Food is really good ! No frills place that gives you big portions for a good price. Only thing is when I call over the phone or try to talk to my waiter there is a language barrier. I don't speak fluent Spanish and it seems (at least the staff I have come across, I've gone 3 times) don't speak fluent English so it's hard to communicate. read more

My family went there to celebrate my mother in law bday, it started good until they turned the music off and decided to have a bartender course right behind us. It felt like we couldn't have a conversation because we would interrupt the teacher. To top it off our waiter was part of the course so we had no one attending to us. I let them know we couldn't enjoy our food or time. They didn't apologize they just offered cake on the house. So disappointed. We haven't been here in years and now I know why. It was ok food. And not great service because the woman had a very rude attitude and you could hear the workers in the back arguing which made my food less appealing. Food wise it was ok:/ not the best Colombian food I've ever had and was kind of cold. What really discussed me is that they had butter in a squeezed bottle and the bottle wasn't even clean it was very artificial and tasted gross. I wouldn't come and eat here again. El Paisa is a Central Falls gem. The food is full of flavors and served in large quantities. For starters I had the tamale (with pork inside). For dinner, I had the grilled fish (snapper), chicharon, and carne entree. The fish was not bad and thankfully not over-salted. The chicharon was a bit tough to bite into but definitely worth a few chipped teeth. The carne was probably the best of the three, juicy and full of flavor. Sadly they were out of tres leche desserts so I settled with the torta de guayaba (dessert) which was not the best. I will definitely return. read more

My family and I really enjoy our recent discovery of El Paisa which is a typical Colombian (Medellin) restaurant. Having been to Medellin several times I can say that, to me, this seems very authentic. The bandeja paisa is great and so are the various jugo choices. I've also gotten pretty addicted to bringing home arepa and queso fresco for my morning breakfast routine. So happy we've found this place. The woman co-owner is super nice and my wife and I enjoy talking with her about our trips to Colombia and other common interests. Don't delay, pay a visit to El Paisa and bon provecho! read more

Read other reviews and was excited to try this place out. My husband and I were there on a Saturday evening. Not too busy then. There were about 3 other families there. Parking on the street was easy enough. On the way in we see flyers staring that it is a cash only place. Fortunately we had cash. We walked into the bakery which was empty. A lady showed us into the restaurant and was our server. The decor was odd as it advertises Colombian food but the decor was a mix of Central American items with Colombian. The menu had many options and prices seemed reasonable. We ordered a Bandeja and a Sancocho de Gallina. The portions were big...but bland. So bland! We were pretty disappointed. We could barely finish the meal. Maybe we were there on a bad night considering this place has some great reviews. We will not be going back. read more

If you want Colombian Food this is the place. I've had just about everything on the menu and you can't go wrong. The Colombian Plater is a great dish if you are familiar with Colombian food, you get lots of meat steak or pork also get a slice of bacon, plantains, potato, yuca and rice and beans LOVE IT. The arepas the chocolo con quesito (Cheese) are awesome and have that authetic taste you can't get any where else. Try the empanadas, bunuelos (cheese fritter) and pan de queso. The Mondogo (Tripe Stew) will fill and warm you up, just like my grandmothers and the fried Red Snapper is always cooked just right. I don't want to give this place a one star for the simple fact that I've always came here with family and I've never had an issue. It's an amazing local place with great food and typically good service. Today is another story. I went to eat with my boyfriend, niece, and sister and they loved their food. I got 4 side orders of chicharonez and was really looking forward to it. The first strip was great, but after that the meat started tasting funny. Expired if that's even possible. I had a flight to board a couple hours after so I decided not to risk it. When I went to pay, I told the waitress (who didn't check on us once) that I wasn't paying for the whole thing and would pay for what I ate. She starts to roll her eyes, smirk, everything you can think of while trying to argue with me because I don't want to pay for food that wasn't good and I didn't even eat! She kept raising her voice and saying she wanted my name for her boss to call. I don't even live here! Calling wouldn't make a difference so I told her I'd wait until her boss comes if necessary. She continued with her arguing so my boyfriend stepped in and told her to chill out and stop acting like she was going to fight me. She than said to leave and not pay. At all. I offered to pay for the rest of the meal, it was delicious from what they said and I felt bad for the owner if anything, but she declined my offer and asked to leave once again. Being of Colombian descent and having lived in Colombia, I can vouch for the authenticity of El Paisa. The food is wonderful and a great selection of Colombian cuisine and treats. Best of all, it is decently priced and their entrees are filling. My personal favorites are the Mojarra and Churrasco, accompanied with a ceviche as apppetizer. If you cannot make up your mind and are starving for food, you can also give the Bandeja Paisa a try, a combination platter that brings rice, beans, steak, chicharon, potatoes, and eggs. The environment inside the restaurant is also nice, with a friendly, family feel to the place. I highly recommend to anyone interested in trying Colombian cuisine in the Providence area. read more
