What I envision eating at my Abuela's house would be like if I had an abuela. I was the only person in the place with the sweet older couple that runs it. The food was fresh, HOT, and tasty. I tried the Al Pastor and Barbacoa tacos. The goat was really flavorful. It edged out the Al pastor for me but both were really good. Four tacos & a Mexican Coke came in just shy of $20. My friend and I were looking for a vegan friendly restaurant to eat at and I found a review from 10 years ago with mention that they have vegan options. As soon as we arrived, I explained to the owners/cooks that my friend is vegan and asked if they had any options on the menu. The woman was so nice, understanding and accommodating and said she could make a vegan burrito and a side of guac. We were very impressed! The vegan burrito was delicious! It included rice, beans, tons of veggies and very spicy jalapeños. We love spicy so this was such a plus. I ordered 3 asada tacos. I added some of the salsa verde, guac and jalapeños to the tacos and 10/10! Extra points for serving blue tortillas, the plate looked beautiful! The chips were freshly made and warm and we finished the guac - it was too good to leave behind. I wish I had asked for her name, but the woman mentioned that her food is made to order and we can always call ahead of time to ask for a vegan dish. She even offered options to choose from. I felt like I was sitting at the home of a family member, it was such a great experience. If I could give more stars, I would! I can't wait to go back! read more

This is my first time ordering from here, but after reading so many positive reviews I was so excited to try it. I ordered a few different types of tamales, including mole (they have a great variety) and they were absolutely incredible, I think the best I've ever tasted. They're expertly crafted with delicate yet complex flavors...so good that my mmm was audible after every bite. Also, they're a generous size, so filling. I'm officially addicted. I also ordered 2 orders of fish tacos (2 in each order). I received one order, but the second was steak I believe. I don't eat red meat so my friend ate them. The fish tacos are amazing, just grilled fresh fish that's been nicely seasoned and served with shredded lettuce and cilantro in soft corn tortillas. Who wouldn't want taco's prepared by their abuelita? I got exactly that from Taqueria Lupita. This is authentic Mexican food. I had three tacos al pastor prepared fresh to order. All the ingredients were tasty - the pork especially good with pieces of pineapple throughout. The salsa verde has some heat, but not overwhelming the other flavors. As others have noted there are burritos, tamales, and "dinner plates", et cetera. The food is inexpensive and delicious. I highly recommend this gem to everyone. read more

I chose this restaurant based on its online reviews but but it did not live up to expectations. I brought my teenaged daughter there for lunch on a weekday. There was only one person working and he was completely disinterested in taking orders. Our food took half an hour to arrive while the gentleman tinkered about in the kitchen looking for things, as there was no evidence of prep work. The plates actually looked good but were absurdly spicy. My daughter and I generally order 5/5 stars for heat when there is an option but this was barely edible; it felt like we were being punished for interrupting the gentleman's break. The place was pretty dirty, as well. I'm not sure if this restaurant is better on weekends or for dinner, but my foodie daughter was shocked that I chose so poorly. read more

I went here with my friends after climbing and literally hits the top 3 burritos I have ever had (I think the best tbh). The tortillas are handmade on site and seared which adds a nice crunchy texture. The cheese was so good because it had an amazing pull and bite like a cheese pizza. My love, my joy... Lupita and her chorizo. Best chorizo ever. And I mean ever. Spicy, cinnamony, special - it's delectable and authentic and I can't get enough of it. They make it there, so I have to go and sit in this adorable family-run spot with great Mexican pride and a soccer match on the telly. I order 2 tacos (one chorizo, one tingas) and a cold Pacifico and I'm in heaven. Oh, the guacamole, too which is chock full of garlic, tomato, onion and cilantro -- like a proper guac should be. Let me just start of by saying the only Mexican food I've ever eaten was Taco Bell and a Mexican restaurant in my homework of Seekonk called Tito's Cantina. So it was safe to say I had never had authentic Mexican food before. My girlfriend decided it was time for me to finally try real authentic Mexican food so she took me to Taquería Lupita. I didn't know what to expect and was concerned I would absolutely hate it and crush my girlfriend's hopes and dreams of this place because she loves it. When you first walk in its a very tiny restaurant with limited seating. There is only about four or five tables so it's isn't the ideal place for a large group. Also the entire menu is in Spanish, so if you don't know Spanish you can still get by pretty well, but it would help to have someone who knows it. Mostly to explain what the foods are rather than to help order. The menu is surprisingly lengthy and is filled with a wide variety of authentic Mexican food. They have tamales, tacos, tostadas, burritos, and various soups such as spicy beef and vegetable, tortilla soups, and black bean soup. They also have seafood dishes and a dinner menu which includes carnitas, Adobo De Puerco, and Beef tongue in green sauce. The server provides you with free salsa (red and green) and be warned the green is very spicy. The chips included with the salsa are hand made in the restaurant as well as the salsa. The service was exceptional everyone was very nice and when my girlfriend was coughing from swallowing too big of a bite the waitress brought over a glass of water to make sure she was feeling better. With it being my first time my girlfriend suggested I get several different foods from the menu. So I decided to get two tacos one chicken (pollo) and one carne asada. You can get the tacos either on a corn or flour tortilla, both of which are also made in house. I decided to get both in the flour tortillas. Also the tacos are served with onions, cilantro, radishes, and lime in the taco. Then I also got a Red with Pork tamale, and a tostada. My girlfriend got the burrito and it was humongous. The food was amazing! I have never had anywhere with better Mexican food in my life. I kept telling my girlfriend as I approached the last bites of my food that I didn't want it to end. I just kept wanting more and more. The tacos were made to perfection, and all of the flavors worked so well together. I personally liked the carne asada taco better than the chicken taco. The tostada was so good as well and although it is difficult to eat, I found myself desperately wanting another one. The tamale was so tasty, I had never had a tamale before so when they served it to me in the corn husk I almost started eating the tamale while it was inside the corn husk. Luckily my girlfriend told me you have to unwrap the corn husk first to get to the tamale. I was able to have several bites of the burrito because like I said it was huge and just like everything else it was amazing. The prices at Taquería Lupita are very fair. The tacos are $2 for corn tortillas and $2.50 for flour tortillas each. The burrito was $7.99, the tostada was $2.00, and the tamale was $2.00 each. The restaurant also has a special lunch menu from 11 AM - 3 PM. There is a catering menu if you want to have Taquería Lupita cater a party of yours as well as pick up. There is no delivery for this establishment. Overall, Taquería Lupita is the best Mexican food I've ever had and it should be everyones next stop for lunch or dinner. A adorable, simple joint right by the Central Falls and Pawtucket border. Don't expect much inside, but the kitchen definitely delivers! At $2.50 for a soft taco, the prices are super reasonable. We started with a super refreshing horcharo drink which we totally recommend! And the complimentary chips and salsa verde was perfectly spicy. We order the la carne asada, tinga chicken, shrimp, barbacoa, and el pastor. We loved the tinga chicken and el pastor - there're bursting with flavor! This place is the best of the best when it comes to Mexican. I'm from Lincoln and live 3 minutes away and I come here all the time. I've told my friends about this place and at first they were nervousness because it's in central falls but eventually caves because this place is so good. To all the people talking about how the location is so important and how it's in a bad area - especially you Jaclyn P from Barrington - this is the nice part of CF. Clearly you've never been to south providence if you think Dexter street is the "elephant in the room". I come here anytime I want Mexican. Besides the fact that this place isn't in the best of neighborhoods, I really Enjoyed it and will be back again. It's a very small place. Family Owned and operated. From what I have read the husband serves and the wife cooks. I went for a stop on the taco challenge and it was nice they had no restrictions. We started off wjth complementary chips and salsa. The salsa was so hot but loaded with flavor. As hot as it was I couldnt stop eating it. My free tacos were generously layered with toppings. I had chicken and it was such an awesome Flavor you wouldn't even know it was chicken. Lots of flavor packed into the tacos. Besides the tacos I also samples a taqiito and it was so yummy. The food was priced quite reasonably and a family could easily afford to eat here. They make everything fresh there and they had run out of sangria so it will give me a reason to go back. I have mixed feelings for this place, but I'll start by saying that I'd come back here for certain items and not others. The Good: They have Mexican Coke, brought in from New York. Five stars for that. The steak was super spicy but absolutely delicious. It comes on a hot plate with a side of tortillas. It was a little too spicy for my boyfriend, but I loved every bite of his meal. ;) You get free chips and salsa. Remember this before you order Nachos. The Bad: The chicken quesadilla, on the other hand... not so good. It's literally just chicken (no cheese or spices) in a puff pastry. I was hoping for some kind of kick, but it was very bland. The Nachos.. for $6 were a bit weak. It was a plate of flat nachos with just some cheese, vegetables and guacamole on them. I ate them, but would have been just as happy with the free chips and salsa. Overall, I'd come back here for that steak any day and I'd love to try a few other things. Happened to be working in the area and was in the mood for some tacos so decided to check this place out for lunch with a friend. Got really lucky with a parking spot on the road or I could definitely see parking being an issue. The restaurant itself is rather small and there were 2 people working who I later found about was the 2 owners. Both of who were extremely pleasant. We decided to order 2 different things and split them. My friend ordered the chicken quesadillas which to me seemed more like tacos but they were delicious. Everything seemed very fresh and the portion was huge. We also ordered actual chicken tacos which had pineapple, onions, and a few other things in them. Both orders came with 3 in them. Again a nice portion and the food was very tasty! We ordered 2 sodas along with the 2 meals and the total bill was about $20. Very reasonable for a nice portion at lunch. Taqueria Luptia, you make my Texan belly so happy. I'll say that the location of this place is not the best as there is only street parking available. Still totally worth the trip. For sure. Ryan D. and I have our go-to places for Mexican in Cranston and on Broadway St. but I've heard people rave about this place for months so we deiced that it was finally worth a try. Btw, we've been to this place twice in two weeks. Walking into this little place, it reminds me of the local places in South Texas. Authentic decorations and it's family-owned (which I LOVE). We sat down and took a look at the menu. Guys, they have fresh guacamole for $2.50! How fresh you might ask? I watched the guy cut open a brand new avocado to make it. INSANE price considering most places charge upwards of $9.00 for "fresh" guacamole. Oh yeah, it tastes AMAZING too. I went with three tacos that had pork, fresh chorizo and carne asada. So good. Fresh and delcious and made with lots of love. Ryan ordered a torta with carnitas and he inhaled it. Duh. During our second trip to this joint, I ordered their homemade sangria and it is incredible. The tortillas are homemade. The mole has such an amazing texture that you want to roll your tongue around in your mouth with every bite. They make licuados (they call them batidos) in several flavors including guanabana. They also make homemade horchata that is perfect, not too sweet and with a pleasant rice texture. The refried beans don't have any lard in them. They regularly have several kinds of tamales on the menu, including several vegetarian varities. Even when they venture into the non-authentic, they get it absolutely perfect. I ordered fish tacos, possibly against my better judgment. I was hoping for that perfect taste of coleslaw-topped Mexicali heaven that I had once on the west coast, and hoping against all hope not to get that special piece of deep-fried New England hell that I ate once at Mr. Taco. What I got was neither, and better than both: pan seared tilapia dressed simply with lime juice, garlic and salt, served with cilantro in a tortilla. The whole thing just demonstrated a profound ability of the owner/cook not to get in her own way and let good food taste good without complicating it too much. It was delicious. I'm also in love with her chiles rellenos. I've had chiles rellenos done a few different ways, but the way I'm most used to is poblano pepper stuffed with cheese, dipped in egg batter and fried, then covered in a tomato sauce. Lupita does a variation on a traditional dish called Chiles en Nogada. Chiles en Nogada is typically made by stuffing the chiles with meat mixed with spices, nuts, and fruits. Lupita's version is vegetarian, stuffing the chiles with cheese and topping them with the spice/fruit/nut mixture and a light drizzle of sour cream. They are just heavenly, and the sweetness perfectly offsets the mild heat of the poblano chile. The only thing I have to warn you is, the food is not made mild for the American crowd. The guacamole is spicy. So are the pepper and cheese tamales. I brought my kids here, and the owner bent over backwards making them snacks of tortillas with cheese so they could have something to eat, but mostly their palates were overwhelmed by the spices. We make a point of coming here without them. read more

I lived for 3 years just north of the big Mexican neighborhood in Chicago (Pilsen/Little Village) and I have weakness for good, cheap, authentic, Mexican chow. I have found very few places in the Northeast that make the grade. Taqueria Lupita is a rare find. It is definitely off the beaten path but well worth it. They do phenomenal tostadas. Their Al Pastor is great. Don't waste your time with burritos (not that they wouldn't be incredible) but their tostadas and tacos absolutely crush anything else I have had in at least a couple hours drive. read more

If you want authentic, mouth-watering, made with love food then head to Taqueria Lupita. Our server was literally running the joint when I went with a co-worker for a quick working lunch. I'm pretty sure he was taking orders, cooking, and serving everything. He was pretty good at multi-tasking. I ordered up three tacos, including the lengua (tongue), al pastore, and tinga (shredded chicken). They were out of barbacoa, but I survived. Oh, their barbacoa is goat, not beef just FYI. I was feeling adventurous. The prices are great, my friend's burrito was humongous, and their cold drinks include my favorite, mandarin jarritos. Everything was delicious, and I got a great lunch for ten bucks, including tip. The place is tiny, but week day lunch was rather slow paced. I could see it getting packed in the evenings. My fiancé and I happened upon Taqueria Lupita during one of those panging Mexican food cravings that often plagues those originating from the South (and Californians) who have relocated to the Great Bland North. We had mole and carnitas plates, with a side of chips/salsa/guacamole. It was as authentic as it gets. I also feel the need to clarify that authentic Mexican food is typically not as hot/spicy as it's associated with. It's very flavorful but Tex-Mex cuisine typically loads on the heat level to traditional Mexican dishes. To us personally, Taqueria Lupita is authentic Mexican cuisine not Tex-Mex. I noticed a negative review commenting on the spice/heat level below, which is why I mention this. Taqueria Lupita is truly better then most of the Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants we've come across in the DFW area. It's a Mom & Pop place with about 7 or 8 tables with a husband and wife who cook in a home sized kitchen for you...think 'hole in the wall.' It's absolutely worth a visit and if you are also a Southerner who is passing through, deliberating whether you can wait it out - stop by Taqueria Lupita and subdue the monster that quells within. read more

This place may not be much to look and and the location may be a bit sketchy, but they are pushing out some really good food here. My husband had beer (bottles only) and I had some delicious sangria. We ordered too much food. They brought up chips with a red and green sauce to start. We started with the guacamole, which was freshly made, only $2.50, and perfect. We also ordered the chicken quesadillas which were great. You could easily make a meal out of that. I had the chicken mole. The chicken was on the bone and still had the skin on. I know it makes me a lazy American, but I prefer my chicken boneless and skinless. Having said that, it came off the bone real easily and the mole sauce was very flavorful. Rice and beans also came with it and they both got a thumbs up. My husband ordered the filete de pescado and got quite a few large chunks of white fish. I have to update this review to reflect just how much I like this place. We've been back and I've followed my GFs lead and gotten the mole and tacos. Also had the sangria and it was great. The family that runs it are just nice people who can make great food. These are absolutely my favorite tacos in the area, hands down. And it's really easy to get to. As a Rhode Islander I will often not visit a favorite restaurant because it is 'fah' or the dreaded 'wicked fah' however every time I go back here I kick myself for putting off a visit. It really takes no time to get to once you get off 95. So for really short money you can have some great sangria, killer tacos, great mole and nachos and gauc! read more

The absolute best Mexican food in all of RI. Having grown up in Houston as a Mexican, I have had quite a bit of Mexican food in my lifetime. The tamales rival those lovingly made by my grandmother. And yes Mexican food is regional, just like American. Everything is fresh and lots of lime makes it even better. If you are used to Tex-Mex or chain-type Mexican food then you may not appreciate how good their food is. FYI, sour cream is not Mexican, nor is yellow processed cheese, so don't expect that on your plate. Do expect authentic, delicious cooking. And the mole is perfect. I love how other's are concerned about the neighborhood. We ride our bikes here and never have had even the slightest issue. Actually the drivers are more polite than those in most areas we ride. It's also offensive to describe it as being in the ghetto, look up the history of that word. The owners and their family are wonderful. Where else would I go to get my taco fix? Pretty much everything is good here, including the monster burritos, which I dare you to try to finish. Even the soups are top notch. Try the chicken pozole (make sure you get it spicy) and you will not be disappointed. This is a small place and the decor is minimal. People don't come here for the ambiance. I am so happy to have found Taqueria Lupita! I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find a Mexican place I wouldn't turn my nose up at if it were in Los Angeles, and finally, here is one that would be right at home. Like other reviewers have noted, this is not Tex Mex, and the husband and wife team is just lovely. My husband had chicken with mole and I had chicken with a pumpkin seed sauce. Both of us found the spice level perfect and the absence of cheese shows you the food can stand on its own without it, but the real clincher was when I touched my fork to the chicken, it just fell right off the bone. We both went "ooh" before we even tasted the food. Definitely go, and then go back again and again! I'm going to! read more
