Was around the area and my friend have a taste for Mexican. This place is cash only. There is atm machine outside. I order a chicken enchiladas. It was red sauce but I usually have it with green sauce. It does not taste bad just different for me. I couldn't speak for the red sauce lover. read more

The good: Guacamole was very flavorful, albeit a little pricy at $11. The chips were over-salted though. Margaritas were strong and tasty. The service was friendly and they're quick with bringing out the food. The bad: I tried four different types of tacos (1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 shrimp, and 1 veggie) and all of them were tiny and bland. There meat had no flavor, basically not even salt and pepper. There are so many food trucks that just do tacos right for a better price and size. Good luck to people who can't handle spice eating here because I love spicy food and some items here are randomly HOT and aren't in red on the menu. I love the brunch menu. It's better value and has better options than dinner. The Huevos Motulenos is soo good I struggle to order anything else. The sauces is so good you want to lick the plate. Disappointed by the enchiladas though. The sauce lacked flavor and salt. They seem to struggle with foods that are saucy. A lot of the tacos have very little flavor unless they're slow cooked in sauce. The Taco de Don Luis is soo boring and bland. A real disappointment. But the cochinita pibil (slow cooked pork cooked in banana leaves) is delicious. So spicy though! The fried fish tacos are bland. The tacos are also tiny. Average person probably needs 4, maybe more. I wasn't expecting much from this place since we just yelled the closest taco shop to us, but to our surprise it was pretty good! The portion size is a bit small for the price ($3.50 a piece) but the tacos themselves were delicious. We ordered quite a few but my favorites were the pulled pork wrapped in banana leaf, shrimp, and mushroom with bell peppers, and chicken with mole. The fried fish tacos didn't have much flavor so the spicy guac sauce helped a lot. You also get 3 fried fish on 2 tortillas which was odd to me.. also the spicy guac isn't really spicy but my lips tingled afterwards. I'd come again to try the carnitas and other tacos read more

Asada tacos were dry and not flavored. AND, I had a hair in my taco (gross) which they took back but never replaced and THEN they charged me for it. When I pointed this out they seemed annoyed and gave us a new bill. No apologies or regrets for any of it. I also think they overcharged us for other things (like charging for ordering 2 salsas instead of 1 order). The service was terrible and the food not worth it. Do NOT recommend this place. read more

Really sad to write this review but TLDR -- don't go. My sister and I live a block away and have been a few times. I especially want to give money to Latin@ institutions during this difficult time, but this last time was the nail in the coffin. Food was C-, but service was literally the worst I've ever had in my entire life. We went out in the snow and ate outside as an attempt to give some extra $$ and the waiter would not speak to us. We'd say thank you and he'd walk away. We'd ask for something and he wouldn't respond. We gave a full 20% tip because it's a pandemic and service workers deserve every dollar, but I would not pay this again. If you want decent Mexican food I can give you a list of places (ofrenda in the west village) where the food is at the same level or better and the service isn't awful. read more

I love their tacos. Honestly I don't want to see a whole lot of decoration on my taco. Nothing but the basics and let the flavor speak for itself. I don't do mayo on my taco or any of the fancy stuff. I like authenticity. Some of my favorites are the grilled fish, slow cooked pork, and beef tongue. Oh and thanks to the guy that brought me the secret stash from the kitchen. That hot sauce made me burn in a good way. I loved every spicy bite! Service was great! Not sure why this place is called La Superior, it's pretty mediocre. I came here for lunch because there's not much to eat in the area and what is available is pretty expensive. I should've double checked these reviews prior to going in, otherwise I would've known it was cash only and avoided this whole experience I got 3 tacos (hongos, shrimp and carne asada) and a margarita. The carne asada was not properly seasoned, not even salsa could make up for that. The other two tacos and margarita were okay but nothing to write home about. Consistently the best taco spot in Williamsburg. Got the beef tongue and grilled fish tacos last night and they were perfection. Both the meat and the fish were really good quality, not over cooked but crispy, and full of flavor. I love how chill and low key it is inside while still being fun. La Superior is the (east coast) Mexican you need. I previously dismissed La Superior, choosing a different spot a few blocks closer for all my taco needs. On second (and then third...) look, it's the most perfect little spot. Important thing to note: it's cash only. Not a big deal, they have an ATM, but necessary to know. The tacos are great. Small, but well-packed. A good selection of proteins (don't miss out on the secret menu taco, garlic shrimp!). Their drinks pack a nice punch. I'm obsessed with their queso fundido. The great thing about tacos is that while you can go through a whole bunch and make it a hearty meal, it also serves as a nice snack if you're feeling peckish in that awkward time between lunch and dinner. I find myself there often for that reason. The last time I was at La Superior, I was with a party of four. A couple of us had 1-2 tacos, one person had a beer, I had a watermelon aguafresca, and we shared an order of elote. In other words, not a huge order. But the server didn't mind at all and still gave us great service. You really can't go wrong with any of the taco varieties, to be honest, and the quesadillas are great too. This time was my third time in La Superior. The tacos here are pretty good for the most part. I was here in a group of 5 on a Saturday night and we had to wait almost an hour for the table. The good thing is we were able to eat some tacos and guac at the bar while we waited. The drinks were really good. I had a margarita while a couple of my friends had the guava margarita. They were both somewhat strong, smooth and not too sugary. The waiting and the standing around made us really hungry so we tried a lot of stuff. Here is how I'd rate them: Guac: Loved the lightly fried chips and the fresh guac with plenty of citrus. 4/5 Camaron al chipotle: The chipotle sauce is spicy. If you add a bit of their hot sauce, it takes the spiciness to a another level. The shrimp is cooked perfectly. 4/5 Chorizo: Lacked a little bit of flavor. Personally I don't like it when you ground up the chorizo so much. I like it chunkier and as it holds more fat (and that usually means more flavor) 3.5/5 Carnitas: A lot of porky flavor and nice crunch. Probably my favorite of the tacos. 4/5 Carne Asada: This is the most talked about taco on yelp... and its absolutely nothing special. 3/5 Lengua: Not bad, but I've had better in Queens and it unnecessarily comes with a hefty $3.50 price tag. 3.5/5 Fried fish taco: I forget the exact name of this but it was the most forgettable thing I had that night as the fish was totally bland. 2.5/5 Steak Tinga Quesadilla: Their quesadillas are nothing like what you would see in most places. They are more like a large sized empanada with a heap of cotija cheese on top. If the tacos don't fill you up, this most certainly will. 4/5 Octopus Tostada: This was one of the specials for the night. The tostada was only slightly bigger than the tacos but they gave quite a generous portion of octopus. It melted like chocolate in my mouth. 4.5/5 On a side note, I've had their pig brain taco which I don't think they offer anymore but they do have it in one of their quesadillas. I've no qualms about eating brains but theirs didn't taste fresh. I find that I am often mentioning pepper tolerance in my reviews. I am close friends with Pepper, but I am thinking of You or good ingredients overhwelmed, when I cite violations. No citation for this joint because I handled it. There was difficulty amongst my gringo companions. But milk was on offer for medical assitance. We had all the tacos, except the fish one. This is definitely the best LA-style taco in New York. They serve the meats in small, legit-style corn tortillas and they are very, very spicy. Take a look at the distribution of ratings on this site, mostly 4/5s and 1s. You know what that means? It's LEGIT. The 4/5's like Mexican food, the 1's don't. Stick to your whackhattan table-side guacamole service, you're embarrassing yourself. I've had both styles of the shrimp taco, the really good one and the really, really good one that burns your throat with it's might. The fish taco is solid, with bits of broiled fish in a spicy pepper sauce. I don't eat meat, but my carnivorous friends couldn't contain their glee at the carne asada and random acts of pork. The chips and guacamole is solid, and the salsas are authentically thin and hot. They don't have a liquor license, so order yourself a prickly pear aqua fresca and save yourself some cash. There's no cheese on the tacos, synthetic yellow or otherwise. There's no iceberg lettuce or diced tomatoes. This is legitimate Los Angles-style Mexican food. The service is intermittent, but the food is always amazing. The chilaquiles are great, but I'm pretty much a tacos and aqua fresca guy. The atmosphere is equally legit and laid back. There's an old sign that's been reclaimed as a menu and a dia de los muertos skate deck on the wall. On a recent visit the owner played Aphex Twin, Sabres of Paradise and Lemon Jelly. Not only was I in heaven, I felt at home. I was prepared for bad service and some crazy ranting chef after hearing about some of the reviews but was very very pleasantly surprised not to have either. Three of us sat at the bar while waiting for the table. The waiter actually gave an accurate wait time (just a few minutes) and showed us to a small table, with the third chair a bit in the way of people en route to the bathroom or from the kitchen. After ordering a larger table opened up and he suggested we move to somewhere more comfortable. The waitress misunderstood the order and brought cochinita pibil taco. Super apologetically, comped that taco and in under 10 minutes my order of panuchos de cochinita came out. The waiter noticed my friend's mouth was on fire from the amarón al chipotle taco and brought her milk and watermelon to try and remedy. Passed this place on numerous occasions but dined in for the first time yesterday. The inside is no frills and reminded me of a taco shack. Small margaritas pack a punch and a price tag of $9. Sadly, chips aren't free. You can buy the salsa sampler for $6 or guacamole for $10. Went with the sampler because that's just too much to pay for guacamole! The tacos were small and $3.50 a piece. My girlfriend had the fried pescado, shrimp and chorizo taco. And I had the fish, carne asada and carnitas tacos. The tacos were fine but nothing to boast about. I don't get over to Williamsburg much...I'll admit that I'm just not trendy enough for that Bklyn neighborhood. But I ventured into the outer borough last night to meet some very cool friends, and ended up having a great time. La Superior was an awesome find, and it is all thanks to our Williamsburg resident friend, D, that we ended up at this restaurant around 9:30pm on a Thursday. There are only about 10 tables, most of which were occupied, and we were a larger-than-life group of five. The place was so chill, they asked a couple to move for us...and this couple actually gave up their table so we could sit down. This would never happen in Manhattan. We were given paper menus highlighting authentic Mexican dishes. I ordered the Flautas de Pollo ($6) and a bottled soda (they offer a Mexican soda called Squirt which is so much fun). And my table shared three orders of chips (so yummy and salty) with super-fresh Guacamole ($5.50). The scene is relaxed, the food is amazing, and I had a great time at La Superior. Just a note: bring your cash because they do not accept credit cards. But definitely check this place out. read more

Wow-wa-wee-wow! I am doling out all 5 stars to this cantina for having--probably--the best best Mexican hole-in-the-wall gourmet in town. I had the Camarón Al Chipotle taco (sauteed shrimps with chipotle sauce) and grilled squid in ink sauce special, both delicious. I also partook in my friend's Cochinita entree (slow-cooked pork) and the guac--very good. Taco's king here: they have inventive selections with sauteed mushroom and pork brain fillings. The quesadillas are a different style: fried in a shell like an empanada - spicy beef was great; micheladas are very spicy!
