This is my go to Mexican market. All of the marinated meats are exceptional. The arrachera preparada is bomb, chicken wings - the best, short ribs-yes, you cant go wrong with whatever you choose. They have premade salsas, torta rolls from their bakery and a taqueria. The food from the taqueria is bomb also, at a decent price. First the good. Their Taco Tuesday is legit. $1.50 for pretty good street tacos. I just wish they would have cabeza. Now the bad. The man behind the meat counter has never been friendly to me. It always felt like he was bothered to serve me. Then one day I waited 2-3 minutes while he was doing something, ignoring me, when a Mexican woman walked up to the counter. He immediately went to serve her. I just walked out and will never shop at the meat counter again. The vegetable section is decent, but the prices are higher than La Esperanza down the street and at Rancho San Miguel. I occasionally will buy some veggies when I get tacos for convenience. UPDATE: I had left a review last month and never mentioned this to my husband. But an interesting thing happened. He went to this same store on 8/17 and told me he had intended to buy carne adobada and when he went to pay, he realized he was being charged for chorizo. What he was supposed to pay was a bit over $12 and was actually being charged about $24. He mentioned to the cashier who assisted in getting that corrected at the meat counter. That is when I decided to tell him what happened to me. Honestly, too much of a coincidence. Is the store putting meat on sale, but over-charging and hoping people don't notice? So sad we now have to check to make sure we are not being taken advantage of. If you do not intend to put your meat on sale, don't try to con people like this. I am seriously thinking about shopping some place else. July 22, 2025 Review... I went to La Superior on Franklin because I was craving their teleras for tortas. I noticed they had carne adobada on sale at $3.99. Lately, that is a good bargain. I got my meat and continued to shop. My mistake was not checking (which I will from now on) the label to make sure I am not getting charged for something other than what I ordered. I got home and put the bag in the refrigerator and brought it out a day later. That is when I realized I got charged for chicken wing drumstick? At 4.49 a pound. I truly hope it is the right amount, because I distinctly remember asking for 3 pounds. After work and in a hurry, I relied on the counter person getting my order correct. I have heard of these stores ranking up their prices and overcharging. I want to keep supporting our Latino businesses, but they also need to make sure they are being fair. We all make mistakes, but when they punch out the label, I would think they make sure they know what they are packaging. And again, I also take responsibility. Great spot for ingredients if you're making Mexican food. We love chili verde and love to come here for chilis and tomatillos. Great butcher shop, lots of produce. Prices are great - lower than Safeway. The cocina inside is great for cooked meals for a party. The taqueria is excellent also - delicious $2 tacos! No fancy stuff- couldn't find dishwasher pods, only soap. But Safeway is around the corner! read more

This is long overdue. I used to go to the one on Northgate, since moving to the area I came here a few times in the summer. I noticed a pattern of being treated poorly and getting looked at with evil eyes by the clerks. I would get a pastry and the woman who was there again tonight, will look at me and continue to do whatever she is doing. Finally when she feels like it, she will come to ask me what I want. Always rude. The cashiers are even worse. Finally after the third visit I decided not to go back. To top it off they sold me "fresh" salsa that was rancid. I had to throw it out. Well tonight there was a fire down the road and the roads were blocked. The train was haulted and I had to take a detour home. I drove by and decided to get some plantains and give the salsa another try and get a small cake. Right as I walk in the girl at the register scans my entire body. Doesn't say hello, nothing. I go to try the salsa to make sure it is not spoiled and the man was so rude, he rushed me to the point were I didn't order anything else. I then go to the pastries and low and behold dumbledore is standing behind the register. She watches me approach then heads all the way to the back to fiddle around for almost 10 mins. I tell her not to package my pastry that I will take it in the container. She disregards me and does it anyway. I wanted a soda but I felt so uncomfortable that I just wanted to check out and leave the store. I get to the register and the girl calls over this old lady to look at me. She is looking at my leg tattoos up and down. I tell her I'm going to grab some plantains and she didn't acknowledge me. When I check out, she didn't look at me at all. She was talking to the old lady who was just burning a hole through me. You see, I am Spanish, my family is of Cuban decent. I have cream colored skin, brown hair. I speak to everyone in spanish when I go to hispanic markets as a courtesy. My dilect is that of a Cuban. It's so curious to me how people claim "razas unidads". But they actually despise anyone who doesn't look like them. From now on, I will speak to them in English. The good: clean, well-stocked, courteous staff, and not busy early on a Sunday morning. Tamales are $21 a dozen. I got a dozen pork tamales and they were fresh and reasonably good. The not so good: menudo had a good flavor but no hominy (grano) and the meat was all undercooked, including the 'pata' which was pretty much inedible. The worst of it was the 'pan dulce' which was clearly old and hard. You are not allowed close to the bread to make your selection so I asked the attendant if the bread was fresh. I asked her if it was from today. She said yes to both questions. I am bilingual, so it is not that she did not understand....she was not honest. I tossed the whole bag of pan dulce once I got home and tried to serve it to the family. La Esperanza a couple of blocks down had very good reviews for their bakery but when I got there at 8:00 am there was a HUGE line of people waiting to get in so I went to La Superior instead. Every experience I have had here has been pitiful, rude and unprofessional. My last experience was with a rude meat department worker and an uncaring manager. I even called the next morning to speak to another supervisor about the situation and he was just as rude as the employees from the day before. This store does not represent our community/neighborhood. I work with this community for over 10 years and never had consistent experiences as I do here. It's an ongoing issue that this particular store has and the owners, managers and staff should be embarrassed. We needed to pick up some chili peppers, jalapeno, onions, cilantro, chorizo, pork, tortillas, etc. to make some Mexican food at home. But since it was early morning, we thought to stop in and try some of the breakfast items that they provide in their kitchen. We split a breakfast of Chorizo and eggs. Wow, it was great. A really big hot and delicioso portion, with the eggs and chorizo made on their flat iron grill, a scoop of rice, a scoop of beans, a stick of cheese, and a drink all for just $11. They have other plenty of good hot cooked foods in their deli to take home and/or to eat there. Their small dining area is clean and service is friendly, courteous and prompt. Beat the crowds of La Esperanza and try La Superior for an early morning breakfast before shopping. read more

Lucky me got to to experience a very rude employee in the meat department. He was upset that they left him alone in the department and decided to take it out me. Very unprofessional and just plain wrong. Even when I sided with him and told him hey I understand but there is no reason to take it out on me. I was more than patient waiting over 20 min to be helped and he refused to help me and called a manager to help me. This is literally right down the street and I now have to make my way to the La Esperanza and Safeway where they are way nicer to there customers than here. I quite like this supermarket! I have come in with my bf (who is white) and also by myself. I occasionally have gotten a weird look since I'm the only Asian in the store, but no big - It doesn't bother me. The service here has definitely been getting better and better! People have been friendly and helpful. I like getting stuff at the deli - usually salsa or ceviche. Their meat section looks pretty good and so does the cooked food, but alas, I haven't had either! Most definitely on my list of stuff to try. I like the spice section and the produce section. The spices are priced below normal grocery stores, but you are getting the spice without a plastic/glass container. You just get them in a bag. I am okay with that. Great store, clean, excellent produce. A slightly smaller version of the Stockton Blvd. store that for some unknown reason, is my favorite. The staff will always help you out if you need something, and the kitchen puts out some seriously good food. If you've had it with the green rocks at Safeway that pass as avocados, stop in here where you'll almost always find dozens of ripe ones. Same for the other fruits and veggies, they're just closer to ripe and ready to eat. Oh, and about 30% less overpriced than those big chain grocery stores. read more

I was very surprised when I walked into La Hacienda! It is super clean, fresh produce, meat, salsa...they have a taqueria. Their food is very fresh and really yummy. They have everything from marinated chicken and steak to chicken feet and cow tongue. And their sampling table...wow. I thought they had some kind of event going on. When I realized it was for samples I took advantage and tried all their salsa, cheese, meats... If you want something out of the ordinary that you won't find at a "regular" store...say cactus, papaya, huge-ass home made pork rinds this is your place. Their prices for produce, meat, cheese and seafood are really good. Especially for the quality - not that I got anything other than the cooked pork but it all looked really fresh. Things like eggs, butter, mile were on the pricier side. But then again, you really don't go to this kind of store for that...in my opinion. Check this place out. Picked up a bag of fruit that was filled with mold, passed on a cottage cheese that was being sold with an expiration date of May 27 (I was there in on June 10...14 days past expiration!!). I've shopped at this store many times over the last several years because this store is the closest to my home that sells Mexican products and food. I've begrudgingly come here for meats, deli, and prepackaged items, because their employees always are inattentive and some are rude. My final straw is their chorizo. What the hell?! We bought their fresh chorizo to make home homemade chorizo con papas. We cook it.... and... it has ground up hot dogs in it!!! Disgusting! I've seen how chorizo SHOULD be made, how they used to make it, and this is NOT HOW. Chorizo should not have fragments of hot dogs. They obviously are doing this as a cheap filler. I won't shop here again. I'll drive further for a better quality market with nicer staff. read more
