Ooh, this place was wonderful! I saw that they had 99 cent al pastor tacos on Tuesday so I figured it would be a good time to give it a try. My husband and I each got 4 tacos (the 99 cent ones are smaller) and we shared the lamb soup. It was all so delicious. I thought the lamb soup was tasty but it was lacking a little in the amount of lamb/chickpeas in it. But tasty for sure. The best part of the meal was the salsa bar! Oh my. Gosh you guys.... thank God for Crave Taco Week or I would have missed out on greatness. The restaurant is small but cozy.. I love the decor too. To say it was busy was an understatement we waited a minute before finding a table literally at the mercy of other patrons eating & leaving. But it was so worth it. The tacos are fire- they have a great selection but between the chicken, the pork and the asada that I had- the asada were my jam (the most- they were all good) Chips and salsa aren't really a thing here not unless you order cheese dip which is a must and they come out fresh & hot- I believe homemade and absolutely delicious. I'm still thinking about those chips and it's been a couple hours guys. Just get the freaking cheese dip:) so worth it. Normally during food weeks there's always a but- not here though. First of all, don't let the small eating area and cafe feel scare you off. They aren't the huge mass produced Mexican joints. Come in, pull up a chair next to some other authentic Mexican food lovers and enjoy! I've been wanting to try La Taquiza for a while now based on their Facebook page. You have to pay for chips but the trade off is, EXCELLENT salsa. Normally when I'm at a Mexican restaurant I have to ask for their house sauces, here? They are right there. They are all home made and all have great flavor with varying degrees of heat. I ordered carnitas which is my go to meal at Mexican joints. Everyone has their own way of doing carnitas and it's a good judge of whether you are in a great restaurant or just a good one. My meal came quickly and was plated nicely. The carnitas had crisp ends just the way I like them. Rice and beans on the side were better than most, good consistency and flavor. Prices were about average for what I ordered and the portions were large. I'm looking forward to trying their soups in the future. Try La Taquiza, you won't be disappointed. read more

I heard great things about this place and I wanted to like it, but it missed the mark for me. For reference I'm from Texas and have been hunting for the best taquerias and American Mexican joints in town. The menu has a lot of exciting options that you don't usually see in American Mexican restaurants, so I was expecting a more authentic experience. Unfortunately everything tasted a little off. It didn't even satisfy as an American Mexican fusion either. All of our meats were a little tough and/or under seasoned. This could be remedied with some great salsas, but their salsas lacked flavour. They tasted more sweet than anything and weren't spicy at all. The tacos only come with one corn tortilla and the sopes come with black beans and pickled onions. The black beans and pickled onions are usually right up my alley, but they weren't enough to save the sope. The sope needed more flavourful beans, meat, and/or salsa to lift it up. read more

This side of town has needed a great Mexican restaurant for quite sometime. So, I was excited to hear of La Taquisa's opening a few months back. I was over on this side of town and avoiding The Summit and decided to finally check this place out. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It seemed more of a taqueria place than a Mexican restaurant. That doesn't make it bad though. There are about six tables to dine at and a overhead menu and counter in the back to order. Since we chose to dine in, we were quickly seated at the only clean tables in the place menus were brought out to us. Service was not good... which sort of spoiled it for me from the start. We weren't given the jars of salsa that I'd already scoped out from the pictures on Yelp. We requested them, but she never brought them. So, my husband went and scoped them up from one of the empty tables that remained unbused the entire time that we were there. I ordered one sope and one seafood taco. The soft shell base, reminded me of a tamale. If you're a tamale fan, I recommend the sopes. You can choose whichever meat that you want. The menu is very simple and easy to understand. The meat is listed separately, each with a clear explanation of what to expect. Lengua is an extra charge, but I've heard that it's fantastic... I just kept it simple and went with the pastor meat. Actually it isn't very simple. It's gyro pork, made with a red sauce and pineapples. You can see the block of gyro meat behind the counter, adding to the authentic feel. The shrimp taco was a bit underwhelming. Four shrimps on a flour taco tortilla. Even though the "anatomy of the perfect taco" is displayed on the wall and #1 on the list was "corn tortilla". So, if you prefer corn tortillas, make sure that you specify or request that. read more

GO...CHECK...THIS...SPOT...OUT!!! FABULOUS street style tacos. I tried Asada, Barbacoa and Cochinita Pibil. All were delish. They are BIG and so, so good. Most street tacos I need 3 for a meal, but 2 will be my go forward strategy here. Three hot sauces to try all were really great--mild green with avacoado, a smoky version and a spicy Habanero. They bring a basket of chips and salsa when you take a seat and it is fresh and well balanced. We also tried the guacamole. Very fresh with chips and Chicharrón...yeah get in there on that!!! This will be high on my rotation. No beers or cocktails, but I can totally get over that for these tacos. The place is tiny, but take it to go if you have to...so excited to go back and try EVERYTHING! No way you will be disappointed with this choice. read more

The nicest people and tasty food! I got pastor, tripe, and asada tacos. Great size and taste. This was my first time trying tripe so I have nothing to compare it too but it was delicious! My husband got chicken enchiladas - the presentation was beautiful and also delicious. The rice and beans that come with it made me wish I got my own side of them :) We shared the cheese dip, and it really hit the spot! On Tue/Thu they have 99 cent chicken and pastor tacos (they are a little tinier than the regular size). Enjoy an authentic Mexican dinner Friday with my husband. The space is very small and so I do not recommend large groups. We got the chips and cheese dip from a Yelp recommendation. Very good. They also have a salsa bar that has some variety. I also got the Street Corn as a starter and it was pretty good. The Mayo sauce was a little too tangy, but overall decent. For our entree, my husband got chicken empanadas and I got 3 tacos. I got the pollo asada, the Suarez, and the carnitas. The chicken was my favorite. The carbitas came out super oily so I did not enjoy it as much. Overall it was decent food. My husband really enjoyed his meal and I enjoyed the salsas. read more

The lengua was the best I've ever had and the tacos were really good, especially the cochinita pibil. When I first moved to Lexington, before I even had a house, I started going to Mexican restaurants and trying different taco joints. Nothing says "home" like a dependable Mexican restaurant, amIright? From my first visit on, I've been blown away by the flavorful food here, and have introduced everyone I know with good taste to this spot. (I'm sensitive and protective of my favorite restaurants, what can I say?) In all my Mexican food explorations since, nothing has come close to the colorful flavors on this mind-blowing menu. It takes traditional street food and elevates it with their own patented "Taquiza-style" spin--a glorious topping involving pickled red onions, cotija cheese, and guacamole. I have a habit of going to a restaurant and always ordering the same thing, but the entire menu is incredible. From their La Taquiza-style al pastor tacos to the artful asada nachos, the veggie tacos, elote, salsa bar... Every. Single. Thing. Is. Amazing. If you love food bursting with life, this is your place. The staff is always friendly, and they're almost always busy, which is always a telltale sign of quality. Their rice is awesome and the beans are refried spicy black beans. Everything has always tasted fresh and made to order the birria is one of my favorites I've had. 10/10 recommend trying this place. This is REAL mexican food. Quesabirria tacos are outstanding. This is one of the few spots in Lex that sell taquitos/rolled tacos, I substituted chicken for barbacoa - highly recommend. I have another spot to hit now for my Tex-Mex cravings here in Lexington. La Taquiza next to Cocktails Too on 130 West Tiverton Way offers a fine variety of items with fast, friendly service. It's a bit small, but I had no problem getting a seat during a late lunch stop. The spot is still rather new, so expect it to become more popular as word spreads. For Taco Week, they had two excellent options that I was very happy with. First was their Pastor con Queso with tender pork on a bed of cheese with chipotle salsa, pineapple salsa, fresh pineapple, pickled red onions and cilantro. The pineapple salsa & fresh pineapple worked really well with the pork and salsa. But their Chile Relleno taco with roasted red jalapeno stuffed with goat cheese, queso fresco, pico de gallo, avocado salsa, crema and cilantro was my favorite taco of the week. The red jalapeno was stuffed with nothing but goodness; from the goat cheese to the avocado salsa drizzle, this was a tremendous taco. I ended up just picking up the jalapeno and eating it from end to end, then the rest after. This was an excellent mix of ingredients and flavors that were very well chosen. Service was speedy and very friendly, with my order being called ready barely after I had sat down. I ordered from the counter to get it to go. There are about six tables here, with the kitchen open to watch the chefs/cooks prepare you order for you. They have some quality people in their kitchen. I ordered takeout through DoorDash. This was my first time trying La Taquiza & I'd heard great things so I was excited! The nachos were actually pretty good. But the soup we paid $12.99 for was more bone and fat than soup. The "quart" container of soup that contained enough soup for a child maybe. They did send two quart containers. The other one had more soup in it but a ton of fatty meat too. Between the two containers, there was one piece of edible meat. I'm 100% sure they'd never serve a dine-in customer the giant, inedible soup bones - these things were as big as my had. They also sent the wrong kind of tortillas, but, whatever. I did try calling & speaking with a manager to let her know what happened, but I don't think she completely understood what I was trying to tell her. It came as such a shock to me, I imagine it would to her too. Even though the nachos were good, I cannot recommend this restaurant in good conscience. Sending "soup" with almost nothing but bones to a customer was intentional and it makes me question what else the kitchen staff does intentionally. This is in my top 3 worst restaurant experiences due to the expense & the restaurant's complete disregard for their customers. read more

I had a great first experience here and I will be back! La Taquiza is a clean, bright, unassuming spot. The service was friendly and quick and the food was really good and a good value. First, there are more meat choices here for your taco, sopes, gordito or other item than usual. Second, each taco has its own unique fresh toppings. I really appreciate the tomato and avocado on the sopes too. Chips were hot and fresh and the serve yourself salsa bar was a nice addition. Easily my favorite Mexican food in Lexington. Every dish I have tried has been both beautiful and bursting with flavor. My current obsession is their pambazo, a torta rolled in a mild Chile sauce, sprinkled with cotija, drizzled with crema and stuffed with chorizo and potatoes...knife and fork required, unless you are a true beast, but worth the extra effort. Pretty good Mexican. The tacos were very large. I ordered 3 - since they were inexpensive I figured they were small but they were actually substantial. I tried the barbacoa street taco, the mole taco and one with shrimp on a stick. They were all good. I was actually pretty hungry so inhaled them. I also ordered the guacamole as an appetizer which I saved for the next day because I was so full. The guacamole came with chips (actually deep fried corn tortillas) and fried pork rinds. I didn't read the menu closely to expect them so was a bit surprised. I hadn't had pork rinds in ages and loved them! All in all a nice meal. I'll have to go back for the elote which I somehow missed on the menu and eat more slowly next time! read more
