It took two weeks to decide to write this review. Why? Because this was my favorite Italian restaurant. Two of us had dinner. I ordered the chicken piccata which came with artichokes and potatoes. I asked for simple piccata, no artichokes and pasta instead of potatoes. The dish looked beautiful upon arrival with a few strands of precious pasta under the chicken cutlets. Glad they were watching my carbs. Disappointing was the flavorless cutlet, unseasoned or under seasoned-- all the same. Tasted like a cutlet taken directly from the supermarket package egged and floured. The end. I swirled the capers and lemon sauce to make it palatable but ended up bringing hung it home in the hopes that someone would eat it. I hope this was a one off. As I said before this was my favorite place. Another point during this visit was the service. Sometimes what is intended as dry humor by the service staff lands terribly. Not once but twice. Think before you speak is a good rule. Finally when the service staff hands you a bill $50 higher than your own, a simple sorry goes a long way -- rather than poo pooing it; "oh he rang up the other table that's all he did. Yeah ok. Popped in here to use a gift card and was warmly welcomed by Darius such a sweet disposition! Great service right out the gate! Yum was also a lovely help and very attentive. Great start! The calamari was fresh and juicy. Not fried, arrived in a tomato-based sauce. I might have preferred a bit less sauce but still very good and unique. I love that they offered a half portion of Caesar salad. Even their half was geous generous! The escargot came out piping hot, literally sizzling and smelled fabulous! I added a bit of salt for my taste but otherwise great! Prefectly tender and the accompany toast was just soft enough while still a touch of crisp. I appreciated that the bread wasn't too crunchy. Finally I ended the evening with the sea bass and side of shrimp and lobster ravioli! The ravioli was to die for! So succulent and flavorful! Did not feel heavy or rich. The fish was tender and flaky, a bit fishier tasting than I expected but I don't usually get sea bass so this might be to be expected. The sauce the dish lay in with capers was absolutely delicious. First time at La Torretta and it was excellent. We didn't have a reservation and just walked in. They were fully booked but still managed to make room for us - so definitely recommend reservations. Our waiter was great and walked us through the menu, which is super customizable with different pasta and sauce options. We started with a Caesar salad that came out perfectly cold and crisp. The food followed soon after and was hot, fresh, and so flavorful. The chicken Milanese pesto was outstanding, and we split the lobster & shrimp ravioli, which was just as good. This unassuming restaurant located in a quiescent plaza is packed full of great food and amiable service. Entrees are generally $20-$40. The service, the professional attire, and the fancy decor give off the ambiance of a fine dining restaurant without the hassle of having to dress up in a suit in the hot weather. What surprised me the most was instead of getting small servings, we got huge servings. It was amazing. I tried out their lasagna and cheesecake. I couldn't even finish it all. The complimentary bread rolls were great too. The cheesecake was twice as big as other restaurants and the fruit that came with it was simply divine. Greeted immediately after walking through the front door by the owner (Darius) and seated promptly. Darius was very welcoming and friendly, making my wife and I feel right at home. First-time visitors, as we moved from Scottsdale to Seattle a couple years ago... Darius brought rolls (that were wonderful - hot and fresh) and water to our table within minutes and shared the evening's specials - - although I love anything lobster, we needed a Chicken Marsala and Genovese "fix." The Caesar side salad was large, so he offered to split it for us, and because I like anchovies he had them served on my half only. Crisp, fresh, cold lettuce with just the right amount of dressing and Parmesan. The entrees are large - bring your appetite. The chicken on both entrees was pounded thin and the sauces were to die for. Lots of veggies too, and the roasted potatoes had a nice crust on them. I first visited La Torretta in October 2021, when visiting my mom, who was hospitalized with viral encephalitis brought on by West Nile. So after a long stressful week, it was great to relax with family and have a nice meal. The food ended up being really great and leftovers fed me into the next day. From 2023 onwards, I've spent more time in Scottsdale and been to their new restaurant several times and carried food out three times. I realized early on that they actually make everything fresh. There's an actual chef who cares about what is set in front of you. And while you're waiting, their wine list is good and the bar options are decent (vodka) to very good (bourbons). Favorites include the Smoked Chicken Pasta, Lasagna, Chicken Parm and their incredible Bolognese, which is the equal of any I've had in NYC where I'm originally from. Loved the Caesar the time I had it. Cheesecake, which I usually find too sweet, is done perfectly here. The owner, Darius, and his staff are always fun. Service is impeccable and comes with good humor. If you read a bad review, I'd suggest ignoring it. Any restaurant can have an off night for all kinds of reasons. But this place is consistent. And truly good. Forget the big chains. You will not find better Italian food in the Phoenix area unless you can make it yourself. read more

One of the best -- the food is phenomenal, the meatball app in spicy tomato sauce was delicious; the chicken parm a huge portion, high quality chicken that could be practically cut with a fork and full of delicious flavors, as good, if not better, than any Italian restaurant in NY; and my friend also loved the pasta special he ordered. But what makes this place even more exceptional is the service. Our water cups never got empty, our iced teas always being refilled. Our waiter is also the owner of the restaurant and what a nice, friendly person who you can tell is 100% focused on customer service and making guests feel welcome and ensuring they have a great experience at his restaurant. It's nice to have a family run restaurant with all of the restaurant group places around. It's clear that they care and want to do a good job. The bread service was very good with fluffy ciabatta and plenty of butter. They made chicken francese for me even though it was not on the menu. Our tablemates had chicken Parmesan, salmon penne and smoked chicken rigatoni - they all liked their dishes as did I. The cheesecake for dessert was very smooth and light even though it was a very large piece. There are a few things that would help this become a much more desirable choice: 1. Add some warmth to the venue. It is very sterile with fluorescent looking lights, big open spaces between tables and a bar that reminds one of a sushi restaurant. It just doesn't feel homey at all. Some warm lighting and not white paint would do wonders. Although the owner doesn't like a crowded room or adding more tables, patrons prefer the cozy feeling of a place that looks more intimate. It looks like they can't afford more tables the way it is set up now. 2. They need to season the calamari with some salt and they were a tad too chewy as well. 3. The marinara sauce was watery and lacked richness. 4. Add cocktails being available (and the price) on the menu. 5. Clear the empty tables of their dirty dishes much more quickly - it feels gross sitting next to an uncleared table. read more

Our server came over immediately and was very nice and friendly. He gave us some recommendations on the menu. We ordered a whole bunch of stuff to share. They definitely do serve escargot here so we couldn't resist. It came out pretty fast and super buttery. The salad was so so. Darrius (sp?) attended to us immediately and was consistently great throughout our dinner. We noticed right away the place is quaint and small/ 9 tables + a very good bar for dining. Location is excellent- right off 100th st and FLW in Scottsdale. Variety and prices very reasonable. Wine list not extensive but great variety and reasonably priced. Fresh made pastas and sauces. This is huge. Our salads (house and Caesar) were both great. My wife and I both ordered specials (chicken and a linguine shrimp dish). Arrived to the table piping hot and bursting with flavor. This is, unfortunately, the worst Italian restaurant that I have ever eaten at in the Valley. I ordered the salmon. It was too salty to even eat 1/2 of it. I asked for pasta, instead of potatoes. I requested that it be hard. It had the consistency of mashed potatoes. The owner/waiter finally confessed that the pasta was made in advance, probably to save time. I have found this to be common in Scottsdale. S & V Italian does the same. I won't go back there either. The Cheesecake Factory will make it when you order it and how you like it. My friend had the chicken special. He said that it was hard and overcooked. The service was marginal. I wanted some more balsamic vinegar for my appetizer, but I could not get the attention of the owner/waiter, who was on his cell phone. The other waiter helped me out. read more

This place is a hidden gem, tucked away in a strip mall on the corner of 100th St and Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. and it's a remarkable place. The food here is "off the hook" to quote Guy Fieri. This restaurant is fairly small with a large bar and 7 or 8 tables, and the fare is authentic Italian. I was here for a birthday party last month and I loved the place, but I wanted to come as a single table before I wrote this review. The ambience is romantic and quiet, and we were met at the door by a gentleman who took our umbrella so we didn't have to keep it at our table. The service here is tremendous. Several regulars were greeted with hugs, and my wife and I felt like family even though it was our first time there as a couple. When we were here at the party, we had tried a couple of dishes, and since they were so good, we ordered them again this time. We started with a Caesar salad which we split, and they will provide anchovies upon request (which, of course we did). I had veal Marsala and it was the best I've had anywhere! 4 good sized Medallions of veal, so tender, the mushrooms and Masala, sauce were so good I wanted to lick the plate clean. Thank God for bread, right?. I could have had pasta as a side, but I chose this time to have roasted potatoes and vegetables. Now I'm not much of a vegetable guy, but they were cooked perfectly. They were crisp, yet tender to the bite, and I even ate the carrots! They were perfectly seasoned as well. My wife had Eggplant Parmigiano which she thoroughly enjoyed. She had veggies and pasta for her side. My wife ordered a glass of Riesling, and I wanted something but couldn't decide. Our waiter recommended the Chianti and wow, was that a great choice! I had indicated it was my birthday on our reservation, and they comped me a regular sized dessert (which is also unusual. Most places will put a candle on a cupcake). I had cheesecake which was exceptional, and my wife had Teramisu which I got to taste and it too was wonderful. All I can say is, that I hope not many people see this review otherwise I'll never be able to get a table here again! read more
