Me and my husband were in the area of Scottsdale for the weekend of the 4th , I'm Italian born and raised and everything I Tavel I want to try authentic Italian food , it makes me feel at home. Marcellino is 100% authentic Italian food. I had the polenta con funghi , gnocchi alla Sorrentina, panna cotta and due spritz (one was Hugo spritz), everything was delicious , and gnocchi 100% homemade , we loved everything. The price are okay, I would say a bit pricey but overall that's what you pay to eat good food. The ambience was great and very romantic. If I need to point something out was the of menu dishes , when the server was explain them to us I honestly didn't understand most of them, to many of menu dishes and not explain it very well, i couldn't understand most of them and i thought it because I'm Italian and i lack of some English but my American husband didn't really understand them either. "Eat Like Italiano at Marcellino" Marcellino Ristorante in Scottsdale is one of those places that's clearly popular for a reason. There was a long wait when we arrived but the staff made it pleasant by bringing out free bruschetta while we waited, which was a nice touch. The ambiance is very Italian--warm, charming, and inviting. They also have outdoor seating, which adds to the whole experience. There was live music that night, and it really set the mood without being overwhelming. I tried two of their non-alcoholic drinks: the rosemary mint lemonade and the hibiscus mango--both refreshing and thoughtfully made. My husband went with a lager beer, which paired well with the food. When we ordered, we were asked if we wanted to try their homemade pasta, and once we heard they have squid ink pasta, my husband didn't hesitate. We ordered it, and wow--it was amazing. The pasta was deeply flavorful, loaded with seafood, and served with lobster meat on the side, which took it to another level. We also ordered the Filetto di Malale--pork tenderloin sautéed with tender asparagus and green peppercorns, finished with a bourbon flambé. It was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. For dessert, we had the flaming panna cotta, which was both fun to watch and deliciously sweet. We were also happy to meet the owner-chef, Marcellino Verzino, which made the experience even more special. Overall, this place is absolutely worth visiting if you're looking for authentic Italian dishes here in Arizona. Definitely a spot we would return to. read more

This place was great! I came here for dinner on a Friday night for a work function. Reservations are recommended, if not required. They do have indoor and outdoor seating. Parking was free in nearby parking garages. The inside of the restaurant was so beautiful. A very intimate, dark atmosphere. We tried numerous appetizers, but my favorite was the Bufala mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto. The bread was also nice and warm, served with a really delicious spread. For my dinner entree I tried the filet mignon stuffed tortellini. AMAZING! And very filling. For dessert I tried the tiramisu which did not disappoint. All of our desserts came out flambé style, which was fun. The apple galetta was also yummy. The dishes were not huge, but enough to feel satisfied. I did not leave this place feeling overly full. They also had a great selection of mock tails which were delicious. The rosemary mint lemonade and blueberry lavender ginger were my favorites. This restaurant served one of the best meals I have ever had. I travel all over the world and eat in many different countries, and the meal I had here was one of the best. Fresh pasta doesn't begin to explain all the different choices, and you can customize if you want to add or delete an ingredient. The waitstaff was great, a Greek gentleman whose name I can't recall. The dining room is very comfortable. Some restaurants are loud and you can't hear your table mates, but not here, and that was even with a trio playing soft music. I've lived in Scottsdale for 6 years and finally was able to try this restaurant! I would recommend making a reservation, even their bar seating is reserved. We went on a Saturday night and it was extremely busy. There was a live band with a saxophone playing in the background. The service was incredible- our waiter made recommendations based on what we liked and walked us through the menu section by section. Their wine line had an in depth selection of different wines from all over Italy. The food was phenomenal- fresh ingredients and had great flavors. We started with the mussels - we were going to have them in the red sauce but our waiter recommended the garlic wine sauce and it did not disappoint. We ordered two of their special pastas for our entrees. We had one with crumbles of sausage and truffle, the other was a seafood pasta. Both pastas were handmade and light. But the bad started shortly after we ordered dinner when the owner/chef reprimanded our server while standing right next to our table over an entree modification. Super professional. The. On a 1 to 5 scale, this place is at least an 8! We went last night for my wife's 80th, and the service was immediately friendly from the seating hostess to the waitstaff. The jazz trio was perfect for the dinner ambiance from the bassist's skillful back beat to the exquisite piano riffs, to the singer's silky voice. And the food, each and every bite of each and every dish especially their specialty pastas was so spectacular, that we would have licked our plates. Yes, THAT good. I dreamt I was vacationing at a beach in Italy when I stumbled upon the restaurant and chef. In my dream, I proceeded to rave to the chef how great his pasta was and that I practically licked my plate. Kept telling him how I cannot stop thinking about it - even days later. Even my SUBCONSCIOUS is begging me to return. That's how powerful my stomach (and this pasta) is. My partner had the lamb chops, which were cooked to medium rare perfection. We shared a Caprese appetizer, as good as you'd expect it. Fresh delicious bread. And ended the night with the the most decadent flourless chocolate cake. Drinks I had included the Vesper (a perfect martini) and Espresso Martini (decaf). All were great. The real cherry on top of a great night was our server, Mike. Funny story is that he's the reason our friends moved to Fountain Hills. They were visiting a year or two ago and he recommended it. (So, huge thank you because now we have friends out here since we moved here from NYC last year ourselves!) Mike was attentive, friendly, and even remembered our friends right away. Even the hostess remembered them and were saying how friendly they are! THAT is how friendly this restaurant is and caring. It is rare to see customer service like this these days so HUGE props! During the holidays were there three times within a couple of weeks. Service is always excellent and we love their bread with eggplant spread. We started with their spinach salad and it is hands down the best spinach salad I have ever had! I ordered the Vongole in the white wine broth and it was so light and flavorful. Husband ordered their veal chop and we split both. Perfection! Chef Marcellino makes a standard menu item special and has great presentation with food that allows you to taste the freshness rather than overwhelm with seasonings. Tonight, Chef's wife, Sima was the vocalist with a very nice trio. They were wonderful to listen to and added to our dining experience... and Sima's energy and joy is always a pleasure. We had a group of five and tried 5 different dishes. One of the five dishes was OKAY. The broccoli dish tasted like someone sprayed hairspray on it as it left the kitchen. Hardly any flavor in the sauce and all we could taste was the wheat from the noodle. The bread came with a tiny dish of gross red pepper sauce. The service was sub par as well. $700 bottles of wine are not worth a trip for trash pasta. Olive Garden would put this place to shame. Nothing about the pasta dishes were "toothsome." read more

I finally came to Marcellino Ristorante to try the Lunch & Learn series. This takes place every month with the exception of July and August (Chef Marcellino travels back to Italy and Greece during those months). Snagging a reservation for the Lunch & Learn is NOT easy. Regulars tend to reserve these upfront at the start of the year and there are only about 20 seats, so this is one of the hottest tickets in town. Many of the guests recognized each other which gave it a fun vibe. And eating and drinking around 2:00 in the afternoon is a wonderful way to spend a quiet Saturday afternoon in my book! The lunch starts on a Saturday afternoon at 1:00. Chef Marcellino is the host and walks you through what he is preparing step-by-step. For our program, he made pasta alla checcha, tossed with a sauce of fresh diced tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella. This is an Italian specialty that is perfect for the hot months. We also got a decent-sized salad packed with flavor. The complimentary bread was uninspired but no big deal. Everything is fresh and in season and many items are imported from Italy. Indeed, the entire red and white wine list is exclusively comprised of Italian options. He even sells an apron that is made in Italy, not to mention sauces and olive oils. Chef Marcellino is charming and humorous. He has a conversation with the guests during the two-hour experience and you leave feeling like you know him. Honestly, I was impressed with the food and with the prices. Dinner entrees range from $30 to $60 and glasses of quality wine are only $14 (just do a bottle). I had a sparkling rose that was refreshing along with a House Italian red that had a great body. While I have never dined here for dinner, I can't wait to come back! Service was exceptional and the waiters are eager to offer recommendations for wines that would pair with your meal. I can imagine at night that the ambiance is dark and romantic. Real estate-wise, this is probably one of the best spots in Old Town Scottsdale. Definitely check out Marcellino's website. They run special events all the time (movie screenings, special dinners, etc.). Sadly, they don't have Happy Hour but there are plenty of nearby places for that. Marcellino Ristorante is a solid choice for when you are craving serious Italian in an intimate setting.
