FYI - the manapuas in the fridge is vietnamese style manapua with ground pork, wood ear mushroom and half boiled egg. I feel like they need a sign specifying that because most people will probably assume that its char siu pork. But knowing they are vietnamese owned I asked the cashier and she confirmed they were the vietnamese kind. They also have a veggie and sweet potato flavor available too. We spent over $20 so they gave us a free one. I chose the veggie to go with the 3 pork I bought. The shokupan is $3.50 here, cheaper than buying at the grocery store. We also got the butterflake rolls and english muffins. I was hoping to see them selling their kougn amains here but i guess you have to go to their cafe to get those and their macarons. My sister was short changed at the Sunday Farmers Market in Kaneohe ( Windward Mall ) and caught it right at the point of purchase. This happened like a year ago. I tried to calm her down saying that none of the younger generation knows how to give cash change.... But I think cash is all they take - so they should know how to give change. The next time I went and they tried to short change me too. End of dealing with those thieves in person. Never again. Then this past week we bought the Sourdough " poi " bread from Costco. Very disappointed with the Kalamata Olive Bread loaf. Where the olives?! All I see is chopped fine pieces of olives and very far in-between. Because there not much olives and the pieces are tiny you don't get the taste of the olives, all you get is taste of plain white bread. A few decades ago I had one of the best manapuas at a Bale restaurant on Nimitz by the airport. I could never find it again until today. I didnt except it but when I bit into it my memory went back in time. Its not a manapua that you're used to. Just have to try it. They had other things in there but will get it next time. I was hoping to buy the French bread Balle sandwich Bahn Mi bread but they don't sell it. I expected a lot more variety than they have. Definitely not like Brug bakery. Did a quick takeout order here for some pastries & coffee. The service was very quick & they had all flavors of macaroons available (I also went right at opening). I was able to choose a box of 12 macaroons which they packed on the spot for me. I noticed that my color combo of macaroons I chose weren't very appealing & they offered to switch out my flavors (I declined, since I wasn't trying to be that girl LOL) but I appreciated that they asked. These folks are known for their delicious variety of macarons! It was the end of the evening and there was still a good selection to choose from. I personally am not a big fan but my friend chose a few to take home. I am more of a chocolate lover and rather go with all things chocolate.... so I got the brownie with walnuts. It was crumbly instead of moist like I'd prefer, but I still enjoyed the chocolate. Maybe I'll try their chocolate-ooze cake next time!! Just the sound of it makes my mouth water. Boy, was I confused! When I searched "La Tour", it kept bringing me to the café. When I clicked the photos to confirm whether I had the right place, all I saw was macarons and flatbreads or sandwiches. A few more clicks brought me here. First of all, we did not visit this location. We actually tried their offerings at the Saturday KCC Farmers' Market where they have about three or four tables of their baked goods lined neatly across. While my friends studied their bread offerings, I immediately hit their nicely packed lavosh boxes, thinking that they'd make great take-home gifts. Asking the kind cashier, we learned from her that they would offer their breads at the Fort Street market on Tuesday. With a planned YEE with several Ohana Elite Yelpers at Pig & the Lady, we stopped here amidst a heavy shower to buy some of their guava breads for my friend's family; she told us that the breads were specially baked for the markets only and were not available at their store. I have been a long time loyal customer for their baking goods and macaroons. You can find their goods at Farmer's Market, WholeFood and Nico's Fish Market. Every week, I had been buying their almond croissant at the Farmer's Market and WholeFood. The Farmer's Market on Wednesdays by the Blaisdel used to have the freshest Almond croissant but the past few weeks, they are not the best condition and croissant had gotten smaller. I loved the goods for so long, and recent disappointment was so big, but their goods are still good. I rate 4 star even though I won't be buying at the Farmer's market for a while. read more

La Tour Bakehouse is a Honolulu artisan bakery which has their products in grocery stores like Foodland and Whole Foods. They also have a stand at popular farmers' markets around town. Most notably at Kapiolani Community College on Saturday mornings. The stand at KCC is huge. By far the largest bakery stand there. They have plenty of selection. You will find different kinds of breads, pastries and snacks. For instance, they have artisan loaves and baguettes but also sell shokupan (Japanese sliced bread). They also have tropical sweet breads as well. What I noticed on my last visit here was that they have a lot of snacks that would make for good omiyage (souvenir gift) as they come packaged already. I grabbed a bag of the Hawaiian granola chips which are shaped in the form of a cookie with tropical flavors from ingredients like macadamia nuts and pineapple which are tasty. If you want to bring back different goodies from Hawaii than the usual macadamia nuts and chocolates, check out La Tour's bakery stand at farmers' markets around Oahu. read more

My family and I recently went to Hawaii and on Hawaiian airline, they served these amazing guava jelly shortbread cookies. We were so sad because we heard them mention that it was sold on the airline only. Once we got home, I contacted them to see if it's possible to buy these cookies since I didn't see them on the site, and they said yes! We had to buy in bulk thought but it's totally okay because they're individually wrapped and so good! We bought two boxes of 80 each. Nobody gets between me and my La Tour bread. Nobody. Recently I've taken up rustic bread making as an occasional hobby. I swear that there must be some crack-voodoo-fairy magic (I've seen it with my own eyes) that happens when the bread dough ferments and is popped into an oven. The freshly-baked bread smell turns little, under-5-foot me into a carb-mongering Jabba the Hut. Its yeasty, warm, and well, bready scent makes you vow to never get a loaf of boring, old Wonderbread ever again. Hawaii is good at many things culinary, but there's a lack of artisan French and Italian pastry and bread scene that makes me long for bakeries in Seattle and San Francisco. This is where La Tour comes along and quenches my thirst for all things baguette, boule, and ciabatta. Their baguettes are perfectly crispy and well worth maxing out your carb intake for the day for. They're perfect with some olive oil, balsamic, and chevre. I'm seriously crying just thinking about it. What are you waiting for? Liberate yourself from your plain loaves of Target white bread and get your bum over to the nearest Whole Foods, pick up a loaf of their bread, and have some quality carbo loading time.
