I was watching a show which featured some caneles and so I was on the search for some in Hawaii. Planted was only a few places with it and the only one open late. I decided to make a whole meal out of it with my family. Ward village was packed so it was very difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at Whole Foods but don't worry, we trekked back through there and picked up some grocery items on our way home. We ordered the grilled cheese, garlic fries, fried green tomato sandwich, deep fried artichoke sando and falafel bah mi. My kids did not like the grilled cheese probably because of the plant based cheese. I should have known because they are connoisseurs of the Kraft grilled cheese and accept nothing else. I would have liked the fried green tomato sandwich if there was a creamy remoulade type sauce on it. The smashed avocado just make the whole thing bland that not even the tart green tomato could save it. I added a tangy white sauce that the lady working there offered and it helped. The artichoke sando I would have loved more if there was more creaminess. The katsu sauce overpowered the taste of the artichoke and I wanted to lift it up more. The garlic fries were delicious. The falafel bahmi was good but again, just need that bit of mayo to really bring it all together. I wasn't a fan of the candles just because it was dense butter mochi and not light and fluffy as I was imagining. There are a lot of great things going for Planted. They create everything with plant based items, even their macarons. However, if you are wanting to try plant based food this is where some of the dishes fall short and may leave you wanting more. Service was great and the woman was patient and kind. She helped with keeping our daughter's macarons in the fridge until they had finished some food. Seating is limited to three tables inside and two outside. But the area was nice and clean, with high ceilings. read more

Conveniently located near Whole Foods in Kakaako, this location of Planted provides vegan food options right in the middle of Honolulu near condos. We've had lemonade and iced teas. Worst service ever. On a lunch break, and took forever to get food and when it was ready they didn't even call it out and I was waiting there, and my food was waiting there for at least a good 5-10 minutes and cold, until I walked up and asked him where's my food and then the bag was sitting right there. I ended up just giving it back bc it was awful food and now cold. So i paid for an overpriced fried tomato sandwich that i never ate and late for work. A fantastic plant-based / vegan cafe in the Kakaako area! In addition to sandwiches and salads on their menu, they offer a variety of baked goods like caneles, macarons, croissants, and kouign amanns. I ordered the Artichoke Katsu Sando and it was fried perfectly! I would definitely order it again. It was about a 10 minute wait for the sandwich but if you're in a hurry you can also order online via Toast and pick up when it's ready. There's limited seating (about four tables inside and two tables outside) and parking is available at Whole Foods or the same lot as the movie theaters. I was thrilled to try this plant based burger joint. I ordered the Teri burger based on recommendations from Yelp members and it was very tasty. I absolutely loved the soft bread. I also tried the mint water. Not sure what other ingredients were in there but it was lightly sweetened and refreshing. They have a few tables and chairs inside. Service was good. The star of this little cafe is the staff and food, and cute little grouping of tables for eating inside or outside, or easy takeout. The lemonade options are a personal favorite, with lychee lemonade as my standard go to for that sweet-tart refreshing taste. Kougin, coffee, other pastries are a great option any time, and super fresh ingredients and bread for everything from salads, soups to ban mi, sandwiches and burgers. Particularly tasty is the fried green tomato sandwich, with crisp and crunchy fried tomatoes, perfectly toasted shokupan and fresh veggies, and jalapeño for a kick of heat. Orders made fresh and this particular sandwich is especially nice since I don't see it too often in Hawaii. It's so great that these guys are located right next to my Pilates studio since nothing makes me feel healthier after Pilates than getting some good vegan food to nosh on. My favorites include the avocado bahn mi and mushroom French dip sandwiches. The fried green tomato sandwich is tasty, but since the tomatoes are breaded and then placed between two slices of bread, it's a bit over carbby for me. I wish they offered fried green tomatoes alone as an appetizer. They offer some fake goods too an interesting drinks like minted water. Staff is nice and very helpful and explaining the menu items. Inside is always bright and clean. Soft opening now (the store is clean and nice): I got teriyaki smash burger and croissants. You can't believe the smash burger is vegan: tasty with lettuce, onions, tomato, and cheese. This made me full yet not greasy, so great! One thing you need to know is a waiting time: needed to wait for 10 minutes but just give them Aloha. A male employee was friendly. They gave me a mochi canele for tasting (limited time?). I chose matcha and it was good (enjoyed while waiting). The following morning, I had their croissant: it's not flaky, so it doesn't mess the dining room and it was good with fruit jam. I will sure to go back and try other menus. read more

I had the Braised Pork Banh Mi, it was delicious but wish there was some hot sauce offered. My coffee order was wrong but I can't prove it. I asked for a regular sized iced latte, with an extra shot of espresso. The gentleman behind the register twice put in "large iced latte." I corrected him twice and we got it right on the screen...weak iced latte came out. I can promise he just didn't add the extra shot of espresso. But there are worse things in life. read more

Absolutely loved everything we ordered at Planted. Came with a group of 4 adults and 1 baby and we were able to comfortably sit inside. They brought our food to us since we were so close to the counter. Ordered a burger, the artichoke katsu sandwich, tendies & fries with their planted sauce, and the tomago sandwich. For dessert we got 3 butter mochi pastries. We could not believe this place was all plant based. Had to confirm with the lady in the front because everything including the pastries was so delicious! We took the pastries home to enjoy the rest later but other than that, not a crumb was left behind (hence the lack of pictures). The vegetarians/vegans and meat eaters in our group were all very happy with our meal. Parking kinda sucks but that's not the restaurant's fault. read more

I'm positive that if I gave it to my non-vegan kids, they wouldn't know it was vegan. At my second visit, I had the falafel banh mi. So flavorful! I'm unable to eat dairy, so it's nice to have a place where I can eat everything on the menu. There is so much variety in meals, drinks, and desserts. Great prices too! This used to be my favorite spot. Now it's a disappointment. The change of the menu is deeply frustrating and really sad. I used to love coming in for a vegan treat or lunch, and now all my favorite treats and menu items are gone. It also smells like dairy and meat, which is the opposite of what I'd like to experience as a vegetarian. Staff was also awful when I asked to use my loyalty points on a vegan treat instead of a dairy treat that I can't eat.
