We go up to West Point occasionally to see our Cadet or take part in a function, as on this past weekend. Dinner off-base and out-of-area with friends was suggested for the night-before and we were all told to meet at La Vera Cucina. Had to use the GPS to find it. Would like to go back in the Spring when the trees are green and the patio is open. It looks inviting. The food was good and the service was attentive, even given the throng of patrons. Enjoyed a fantastic dinner outside on the terrace last night. This is a beautiful restaurant ideal for special occasions but also for more casual dining. Exquisite service and ambiance, and of course the food was outstanding. I highly recommend the seafood "lasagna"- can't recall the exact name- and the shrimp fra diavolo with linguine (best I have ever had). Will drive an hour and a half to return! read more

This place is incredible! If you're in that area or staying anywhere close by I highly recommend eating there. It's family owned and operated and the whole family works there! The nicest people you have ever met. The owner came to our table and I told him I wanted a veal dish. He recommended the Veal Sinatra over pasta. It has fresh porcini mushrooms, asparagus and fresh tomatoes in a grappa sauce...and it did not disappoint! And their pasta is homemade and it's also incredible. My wife had the chicken francaise and said it was great. Get the burnt broccoli as a side dish during your entree. It's awesome. Oh and save room for dessert. Amazing! Can't wait to go back to this place and try something else. read more

I dined there this past Saturday night with five other guests. We had a 7 PM reservation. We were deeply disappointed with the server and the kitchen. It took an extremely long time for the server to even arrive to greet us and take our drink orders, and he is quite pompous! He is an older gentleman with an Italian accent, that seems to believe he will manage the guests, their drinks, and the timing of the food to his liking. It was close to 8 PM by the time we got our drinks.! We ordered our appetizers and entrées at the same time sometime after that. We did not get our meals until a few minutes after 9 PM! And that was after angrily demanding food be put on our table. We also demanded to see the owner, and the waiter said he had advised him. I then got a busboy to fetch the owner and the owner advised me the server never requested he come to the table. He was not aware of our poor service. I believe the kitchen was overwhelmed that evening. But the server has no skills in managing his clients. The server had come around to ask if I wanted a second drink and I responded no, I don't think I should. He then took my empty glass, and returned with a fresh drink. I emphatically told him no! I do not want a drink! He was most interested in liquoring up his guests to beef up the bill. I believe the owner is fully aware of this abhorrent behavior, since this server has been employed there for many years. We will not be returning to this restaurant, ever! read more

I've never had a bad meal at this restaurant. The service is top notch and the wait staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the food. I think there are too many tables for the amount of space and when it is cold outside if you're seated by the door you will be cold. The ambiance is nice. read more

The food is absolutely delicious, but unfortunately, I would only recommend this place if you want to go out for lunch or dinner, not to have a party. I booked a party after I ate dinner at this restaurant because I was impressed with the quality of the food and service. While speaking to one of the owners to book the restaurant for a special event, he was extremely friendly, assured me that there would be nothing to worry about at the event because they take care of everything and make sure that their top priority is always the customers' satisfaction. Well, after signing the contract, the owner wasn't so friendly anymore, and was very stern and unwilling to compromise in any way. The party menu price is suppose to include appetizers, salad, pasta, main entree, dessert, and soft drinks/coffee/tea. This place does not decorate cakes, they only bake them and slice them prior to serving them so there is no opportunity to take pictures (which is usually an important moment at any special event). Due to this problem, the owner stated that I could bring my own cake (which I had to pay a bakery for of course) so I figured he would either take a couple of dollars off each dish I was paying for since his dessert was not going to be used or give me something additional. He said absolutely not and that I should be grateful that he was not charging a cutting fee for the cake I was bringing in! Not for anything, but usually a cutting fee is about $1 a person, how do you compare that to replacing a dessert that is priced on the restaurant's menu for about $7? Another issue was that a few guests showed up about 15 minutes late to the event and when I asked the manager to please make sure they were given some appetizers (which were out but the other members at the tables ate), he said "I can't do that. They showed up late." I did not appreciate that prior to signing the contract, I was assured not to worry about there not being enough food for the guests because they always make sure everyone is satisfied, and then at the event I was presented with that answer IN FRONT OF MY GUESTS! That's embarrassing and a poor business choice when you're trying to bring in more potential customers. Again, the food at La Vera Cucina is outstanding but I give them three stars because of the way they would not work with me in any way with the menu and the unprofessionalism the staff demonstrated at the event I hosted. Although this restaurant claims to keep customers' satisfaction their top priority, they are not doing a very good job in doing so. As a business owner myself, I know that even the slightest compromise with a client is all that is needed to make the customer feel his/her business is valued and appreciated (a big part in having a satisfied customer!), but unfortunately, the owners and staff at this place don't seem to understand that. read more

This is one of my Favorite places to dine! The atmosphere is nice and cozy . the food is wonderfully prepared I have never had a dish I did not like or had to ever send back. the wait staff is very well educated with the menu and wine list , the staff and owners are personable and delightful to speak with. This is a place I personally love to go on special occasions! One of my favorite appetizers to get is the Seafood Royal its a must have if you like seafood!! the only downfall I personally have is the pricing its a bit high so thats why I go mostly for special occasions or parties which makes it all the more special :) read more

I have been to this restaurant several times and every time I was disappointed .... You are so cramped, service was lacking, overpriced and you can tell the food is not real Italian food..... This restaurant used to be a favorite of my family's. Last time we went, we got seated right away, but when we got the food, it was warm not hot. Then, I noticed a crack in my glass. When I dipped my finger into the glass, the crack moved. It was a hair in my soda. read more

I have to respond to Tim D of Highland Falls rating from Christmas Eve. The menu Was Not a seafood only menu which was limited. It was a two side menu that include Chicken, Pork, Veal, Pasta and yes Fish. They also had specials which the waiter told us about. I was at the hostess area and you DID get a menu to look at because you started complaining right away that you were never told it was a limited menu when you made your reservations. You got seated and a few minutes later you walked out with your family. I was seated only 15 minute after my reservation time. While waiting the owner came out with a bunch of wine glasses and bottles of wine and every adult was given a glass or two of wine on the house. Yes it was crowded but it was Christmas Eve. What were you expecting, the place to be empty. Service was Excellent and food was Delicious. Obviously you have very limited dining experience and maybe you should stick to Applebees or TGIF. I have eaten twice at this restaurant- once for my daughter's confirmation and once for her graduation. I will NEVER step foot in this place again. The waiter was awesome and I felt bad for him since he was sent to do the "dirty" work and keep telling us food was coming. Some of our party arrived at 8:25 while the the rest of us arrived at 8:45. We did not get our dinner until 11:30!!! The restaurant was nearly empty- it was us and another party. After getting the food -nobody even really wanted to eat. We get our bill and they comped us one round of drinks and a round of coffee. Really?? When we confronted the owner he was making excuses. After much arm twisting he took off a whole $25 for a bill that was over $400!!! Then the owners wife comes along and says we didn't get there til 9:30. Yea- maybe if it was central standard time! Seriously? I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world and I'm going to lie about a half hour to beat you out of money. Then the topper was the daughter of the owners decided to call my family trash. You need to be very mindful as to who you call trash. It escalated into a shouting match and my daughter in tears. Not worth it folks - less lying and drama at the McDonald's. Save your money and go somewhere else.. read more

My husband and I took my in-laws to La Vera Cucina this past Saturday for an early Mother's Day lunch. Originally we had intended to go some place else, but when we learned that the restaurant we had first selected was closed for lunch, we figured it was a good time to try La Vera Cucina. Everything about this restaurant impressed us. From the friendly, attentive employees, to the lovely balcony that we were seated on at the front of the restaurant, to the extraordinary food and desserts. The menu was fantastic... every item on it was so wonderful, we had a hard time selecting. Each of us enjoyed our meals tremendously. Every bite was delicious and the portions were surprisingly large! Normally when you go to a restaurant as elegant as La Vera Cucina, the portions are skimpy... but this was certainly not the case! The dessert tray was to die for. And just like the meals, each item we ordered was out-of-this-world. The experience at La Vera Cucina is 5 star all the way! My friend and I had lunch here last week. Minestrone soup was very watery, no real body to it. I had the "special" lunch item "la Vera cucina chicken which I thought was delicious!! Then came the offer of desert. Well now I know why the restaurant reviewers and experts tell you to stay away from "Specials". At first the waitress brought out the whole tray of dessert offerings and I picked one. She left and came back saying I could only have tiramisu or strawberry shortcake so I ordered the strawberry shortcake. OMG it was terrible- you could tell it had been around for a while and they were trying to get rid of it- it had such a "refrigerator" taste I only had one bite. The cream in between the layers was not great but since I don't eat this often I thought it might have just been me. I took it home for my husband - he threw it out!!! My only advice is "stay away from the "specials". When the experts tell you the restaurants are just trying to get rid of leftovers I think they know what they are talking about. read more
