Always a nice place to enjoy a meal if your in the Newport/Costa Mesa area. There might be a bit of a wait depending on the time/day you go but worth waiting for a little bit, probably wouldn't wait longer than 30 minutes. I usually go for the carnitas plate, and it a good portioned plate, leaves me satisfied and full. Lots of drinks options too, and they have multiple bar tops so drink service is usually quick. Sit on the patio, it's a nice and open space, but the inside has some private booths. Staff is friendly, especially my friend Israel, he excels at his job. My friend decided to go out of late night out. After going from Japanese to American, we stumble upon this Mexican bar/restaurant around 12AM. We pass this hidden gem many times on the second floor since it's literally right next to Time NIghtclub We were of what I considered to the most underdressed of wearing shorts and baggie pajamas while we have patrons are wearing dresses, collar shirts, and short shorts (from my perspective), but security was surprisingly friendly and helpful of pointing out first timers of which side is open for table seating if want to eat first. Because of the CDC lifted mask restriction, either no one is wearing mask or some still do for courteous of others. Each table has QR code and you scan it to get to the menu. You get complimentary chips and salsa (salsa is freshly made). Our waitress was very cute and was to inform of last call for food. Because we came in on a Thursday, there was a taco Thursday menu where selective tacos (beef, chicken, potato, and mahi tacos) and drinks are available. No hesitant to order, I got the carne asada ($27) from the main menu and mahi taco and house margarita from the taco Thursday menu. Be expected to not get attentive service around. 12AM since majority of patrons are mainly drinking. We finally got our food and drinks. Overall, it was worth the wait. The carne asada is huge (expecting it to be small) and so thick and juicy. house margarita has flavor and gives that Mexican vibe. If you are spicy lover, the mahi taco will tickle your throat but not enough to overpower the taste of that creamy sauce. TERRIBLE SERVICE! Our servers name was Rodrigo. (At least that's what the receipt said) we asked for a high chair 5 times and couldn't bring us one. He kept apologizing saying it was busy outside when there was only 2 parties of about 8 people. Took about 15 mins to take our drink order. When the food came out it wasn't what we ordered. So nice to have someone really proficient in customer service. Definitely a breath of fresh air especially with how kind and sweet she was. Not something I'm used to in SoCal, but reminded me of being back in the Midwest! The Mahi fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had and I really loved the cactus margarita!! What happened?! This place was our favorite Mexican restaurant, now it's terrible. To start the drinks were not what they used to be, was going to get seconds but passed. Half the table was done with their food before the other half even got theirs and one person didn't get theirs till everyone was done. Several orders were wrong and the food quality is horrible! Not what it used to be. We were a party of eight but the place was not even half full. When no employee ask how you're meal was , you know they know! They allow salespeople to walk around soliciting and gathering mailing list information under the guise of a "sports betting contest" new owners maybe? Felt like a different place and not a good one. I always love coming here because if the good drinks but the other day when I went for lunch with friends the bartender was by herself because it was pretty slow for a Wednesday afternoon. It wasn't that busy where she couldn't attend to us to take our orders, we had to flag her down every time. Also, I'm sorry, but the drinks were not good. I think this was another Mexican restaurant before. And we haven't come to this area in over a decade if I remembered correctly. We came in for some drinks after a meal at Cafe Sevilla next door. Got seated by the fire pit and it was quite windy late afternoon. The fire pit was lit and kept us warm the entire time we were there. We ordered house margaritas, Modelo michelada and Corona with a few Patron silver shots. Also buffalo wings as drinking snack. The margaritas were very well made and strong enough. Buffalo wings were very yummy too. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive considering how busy it got later on. It was a fun place to have some drinks and the music was pretty good too. We would come here again if we ever happen to be in this area. Ps. The restrooms were not clean and they should provide more hand sanitizers. My husband and I went out for a date night expecting to have a good time like we have had here in the past. But instead we left feeling like the restaurant tired to take advantage of its customers. Their prices listed on their paper menu, and their website menu were cheaper than what they charged us when we asked to see our bill. We were also set under a heater, once we ask them to turn it on hot water dripped on my husband's back. Thank goodness it wasn't hot enough to burn him. The Waitress told Manager and no one came up to apologize or to move the table. When we finally asked for our bill, our waitress gave us a portable credit card machine to pay with, before showing us the actual bill and didn't ask if we wanted pay cash either (the bill would be cheaper if you paid cash as it stated this on the actual bill). When we got to see our bill, they charged us $2.00 more than what was listed on their menu's. I know it's only a couple of bucks, but it's the principle behind their intentions. All the waitress could say was they have a new updated machine and they're waiting for new menus. She then stated, "I can ask my manager to takeoff the couple dollars for you if you'd like." Of course I said yes please. Very shady. I would definitely recommend checking your bill before paying at this location. read more

After being on my bucket-list for the longest time, I finally decided to make the drive to La Vida Cantina for their happy hour! We arrived around 3pm and were able to get seated immediately. We didn't realize it, but we came on a Tuesday so we got the best of both worlds: happy hour AND all day Taco Tuesday. We ended up ordering the following: Tacos (beef, chicken, and potato) ($2.50 each): the potato was honestly the best! It had the most flavor and ended up being the most moist of the three. Taquitos ($5): Would not order again. Presentation was awesome but was kind of disappointed by how dry it was. Wish it came with some guacamole! Flan ($6): Classic flan with bomb whipped cream! It has a tougher texture than I am used to, but still delicious! Pineapple pom Margarita ($13): WOW.. This was soooo yummy. I loved everything about this drink, including the little fruit bits. I am for sure coming back for this! Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita ($12): Was strong and delicious. You can definitely taste the jalapeño but not so much of the pineapple. Service here is awesome! Everything came out super quickly, and they followed social distancing rules. I am 100% coming returning to try more drinks and hopefully some enchiladas! Terrible service. I ordered a beer at the outside round bar and some food. Nobody acknowledged me afterwards. I sat there for 45 minutes with an empty beer, while multiple bartenders and staff walked by. I finally said I'm leaving and cashing out. Stood there for another 20 minutes trying to get my check! This was at 3pm and not busy at all. I feel like the staff just checks out when it's slow and doesn't care about the customers there. Won't be back. read more

"V" is for La Vida Cantina. It's been a while since I've dined at Triangle Square and some restaurants have changed. La Vida Cantina is new to me. I made reservations ahead of time for four people on Taco Tuesday, but we ended up having five people in our party, which I didn't think was going to be an issue until I got there and two of my party checked in ahead of time. This is why it's important to wait for the entire party to arrive! They checked IDs here by the bouncer before entering. Anyway, we were five people seated at a table for four. Our other option was to be seated inside, which some of our party weren't comfortable with. While there seemed to be plenty of seating, it was all reserved for larger parties. We asked for an extra chair and made due. Our server was Kelsey. She was hustling and super apologetic that she wasn't told we had been seated. We had literally just sat down so we weren't in a rush. She told us about the specials so a few of us ordered the house margaritas ($7). We looked through the food menus which are via QR code. At some point, chips & salsa was brought out to the table. It wasn't very spicy and I could have gone with a spicier version of the salsa but didn't have a chance to request it. My fiancé ordered a taco ($3) with a side of beans and rice. I ordered the enchiladas suizas ($16). The rest of the party had tacos, tortas, and a Southwestern salad. It had been a few months since my Alphabet Group was able to get together in-person, so this was a treat for us. The food was brought out in a timely manner. The food was okay. Would I go here again? Perhaps, if I had a large group to feed, but there is plenty of delicious Mexican food to try in SoCal. The place was busy for a Tuesday night. Kelsey stopped by multiple times along with the other bussers who refilled waters, and removed plates. She even split the bill for us by party, so we didn't have to do it ourselves. As you can see by my Yelp elite status, we dine out and support local business quite a bit. After watching four people, hostesses and managers included, talking and laughing, we finally asked for some attention. Crazy right?!? Imagine wanting some service at a restaurant you pay for service?!? I tried scanning their digital menu barcode multiple times (with zero luck) as their own online server was down, before even asking for a paper menu. The hostess (completely RUDE) couldn't even make eye contact, did not acknowledge our request, and slipped us the menu to the point where it blew away in the wind because she was apparently too good to hand it directly to lesbians and their kid. The manager had ZERO cares (probably because he cared more about getting in her pants than her customer service) to acknowledge her complete lack of professionalism. We were a party of 3 about to drop over $300 on our meal. I cannot believe that some people have jobs when there are so many desperate for work. Had a great experience with Sergio last night at Taco Tuesday. He was very friendly, gave great recommendations and constantly checking on us. We commented many times throughout our meal how great of a server he was. The potato tacos were delicious and will definitely come back for those and Sergio. we have been looking for a new place to hang-out and have a few beers and shots on a regular basis. At first glance we thought that we found a great place however I quickly found out this was not "The Place". Immediately I discovered the bartender said We Don't Have Draught Beer, so we ordered bottles and some food. OMG, $8.50 for a bottle of beer that actually cost $1.50 at the Market!! The whole purpose of going-out for beers is to have Draught Beer, I can have Bottle Beer all Day long at home for a fraction of the cost. Total waste of money! Had a girls' night here on a Friday and it was really easy to make a reservation. There were a lot of empty tables and it started to fill up around 9-10pm but still had plenty of seats around. The service was great and our waitress Jasmine was attentive and checked on us often. The food itself was only okay and a bit underwhelming. A plate of taquitos came with only 6 half pieces for $22. I think the margaritas and dessert were the best things that we had. It's a good place to go if you are looking to have drinks and snack. read more
