I have been craving pancakes and was super excited to try pancakes here. My sister and I both got the Haute Combination and we both substituted our pancakes. Instead of buttermilk, I got oatmeal blueberry and she got orange ricotta and we shared. The sausage is super yummy!!! I've been coming here for at least 6 years, and the quality has remained the same - friendly staff and excellent food! My go to is their Orange Ricotta Pancakes. These are so light and fluffy, and you can really taste the orange flavor as you can see there is orange zest in the pancakes. Personally, 2 pancakes is enough for me, but if you're hungry or want to share these with someone, I'd get the 4 pancakes stack. I'll be back next time I'm in town. read more

This place had the best pancakes I've ever had in my entire life and I'm still dreaming about them a week later. There was a pretty big line when we went but it moved quickly. The inside is super cozy and cute! And it's one of those places you order first and then go and sit down. I am a big brunch fan but as pescatarian with a gluten allergy and someone who tries to eat fairly healthy, it can be hard to find places that align with what I'm looking for. For my first visit to Haute Cakes, I got the Paul's "A Lil" Eggy Sandwich, and then this last visit I got the Buckwheat Haute Cakes (2 count). I enjoyed the sandwich, it wasn't my favorite thing ever but it was still good, but I loved the buckwheat pancakes! The house made blackberry jam and crème fraiche on top were both really tasty. They ran out of orange juice around 11am - 12pm on a Sunday. I got the combo plate and upgraded my pancakes to the orange ricotta pancakes. Went here for a weekday brunch and I really liked it. The place is tucked away in the back of a plaza but the outdoor area is very cute with lots of plants and trees. We went on a rainy day so we sat indoors. The place is clean and has a good amount of indoor seating. You order at the counter and they give you a number for your table which they then bring the food over to. They also have a to-go coffee counter which is nice. We ordered food and coffees and sat down. After about 10 minutes a few of us were wondering why our coffees hadn't been brought over. We then realized that we needed to get the coffee ourselves from the to-go counter. I felt it would've been nice had the person at the counter told us to pick up our coffees at the counter. The food was delivered pretty quickly and was reasonably priced with most breakfast and lunch dishes around $17. All the food was fresh and yummy. There wasn't anything particularly outstanding about the food but there was a good variety of items which is nice when you're with a group and I always appreciate when the ingredients are fresh. It's a nice breakfast spot so I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area and especially if it's a nice day when you can enjoy the patio seating. read more

There was a mix of tartness and sweetness, and it all worked so well together. This was def my favorite thing from here, though everything was delicious! I really like their seating outside! It's a bit secluded with lots of greenery which makes it nice. The only thing is that the sun can get harsh sometimes. The indoor seating is nice too though! Always a favorite and a place we bring friends when visiting. Our table of four all ordered entrees and split a plate of the orange ricotta pancakes and the Belgium waffles. The pancakes are a must every time, as they are so warm, fluffy and moist. I enjoyed the asparagus scramble, with the array of fresh veggies, toast and jam and of course their breakfast potato mix. Anytime I come here my drink and my food never come out the same time. It's either one or the other first. Today was no exception. My food came out first without my coffee drink which I do like to enjoy together with my meal. The haute cakes combo was good, but I probably should've ordered something. I could just make it home. Plenty of outdoor seating and some indoor seating as well. Parking can be a little difficult after 9:30 as there's quite a few restaurants, medical building and other coffee places. This morning, I took my husband, 2 caregivers, and my father--who is 95 years old and in a wheelchair--to Haute Cakes Caffe in Newport Beach, CA this morning at 10:30 today to get breakfast. It was very crowded and there was a long line of people in a very narrow walkway. The restaurant doesn't allow people to sit before they eat, so we were standing in line for about 10 minutes and people came in and out constantly making us shift my dad in his wheelchair or bumping into him. There were at least 15 tables open and one large picnic table in the center of the patio area. I asked the waiter if we could sit my dad at a table so that he could get out of the crowd and the narrow walkways where we had to keep moving him because of all the rude people in and out. He said no and then went to check with the owner who said no as well. We had been here before and got a table before we ordered. But the owner today said we could not. The waiter was rude and dismissive, as he said the "owner" was adamant that he didn't care that my dad was in wheelchair, he would have to wait in line like everyone else. Wow. Not that it matters, but my Dad is 95, an Air Force Vet, former medical doctor at Hoag, went to Harvard and was rudely dismissed at this restaurant. It was f'd up to for him to be treated in this fashion when all we wanted to do was sit him at a table while we ordered and get him out of the pushy crowd. If you've been there, you know exactly what I mean. It's sad that Haute Cakes Caffe has become more about being a "scene" than actually giving a sh&*^t about the quality of food or their hypocritical BS of "Customer Satisfaction." To prove that, the server refused to give me his name and refused to give me the name of the owner, but it would have been either Tania or Paul Taddeo. Which is ironic because on their website they clearly state: "OUR PASSION IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SO DON'T HESITATE TO ASK FOR US!" - TANIA & PAUL. Well, I did ask for them, and they refused to give me their names or even talk to me. Even worse, they denied my dad a place to enjoy their "sanctuary" and their obviously declining cuisine and customer service. I've heard that from other locals as well. I guess "Tania & Paul" can't fathom the fact that that old people can Google too. Shocker. Such a rude and pretentious place now.
