I went to artist Saul Mora for a portrait of my father and a tree frog on my left forearm. There's no denying the art is great. However, the professionalism of the artist and shop left much to be desired. I've been getting tattooed for more than 28 years, literally longer than Saul's been alive. I've never had a tattoo get infected until this one. When I mentioned it to Saul, he made zero apology and inferred the infection was my fault by asking if I'd properly cleaned the tattoo. He did suggest I go to a doctor for antibiotics, which I did. I didn't hear from him again until he tried to confirm our next appointment a few weeks later. I'm not saying the infection was his fault, but only he and I were in the room when I got tattooed. Common sense and customer service demands at least some level of accountability and concern. The infected part of the tattoo was in my late father's eyes, the keystone area of a good portrait. Though Saul is artistically skilled, his technique and bedside manner are extremely weak. Over the years, 15 artists before him tattooed me. All basically said the same thing: My skin is soft, tender and subject to scarring if care is not taken. Saul pounded ink into my arm. The infected areas were the parts he pounded particularly deep, tearing at raw, tender skin. These were the parts I recall hurting most. I've been to a variety of shops. All were run in different ways. All the artists took care to make sure my experience was a good one, and I've been a repeat customer of many. Most shops weren't as rowdy as this one; the focus was usually on the client, not the other artists, and my time was not rushed nor wasted. This shop was very different. Saul took his sweet time when I got there - I waited about 2 hours for the stencil to be placed on my arm. In the end, he seemed to be rushing me out. I usually ask the artist to let the tattoo do its final bleed out in the shop so that it can be cleaned one last time before being bandaged. This tends to prevent anything from getting stuck to the bandage. Saul ignored my request and did as he pleased. During the session, Saul was quite distracted by other artists in connecting rooms on either side of us (who also had clients). They razzed one another over blaring music in a manner inappropriate for customer's ears. I waited a long time to get my forearm done so that the portrait of my father would be perfect, or as close to perfect as a tattoo can get. I chose Saul for the job after doing my research, but I should've researched more. Normally these issues and distractions aren't problems in and of themselves; they're non-existent or very short interruptions. But when something goes wrong as this one did, I can't help but recap the session's events and wonder if a more focused and attentive artist would've done a better job technique-wise. There are also some minor points I feel I should mention. I have a forearm cuff on my right arm and it was important to me that the left arm tattoo went down as far as the right. However, the new tattoo is 1 inch shorter than that of my right arm. I was very clear about what I wanted, but again Saul did what hewanted. Or maybe he didn't hear me over the music and playful racial/homophobic insults to his coworkers. Additionally, the tattoo doesn't resemble a cuff - the edges are not squared off at the top. For $600 I feel like I purchased the right to have my concerns and requests adhered to. They were not. I also feel I was overcharged, given the time spent. But that's another post. I would've paid double to have avoided an infection and gotten exactly what I wanted. My overall report is that I would not go back to Saul Mora. He needs to mature and learn how to run a proper business. Maybe I'm old school but I miss the old way of doing tattoo business, in which the customer gets what he wants and the artist is focused on the client. Going to La Vida Tattoo is a gamble. Now I have a tattoo that needs to be touched up, but I have absolutely no desire to let Saul near my arm with a tattoo machine again. Maybe time and Saul's maturity will change my mind.

This is my new favorite place to get tattoos and piercings when I visit family in LA. Glare is always super nice when I drop in randomly. The place is always clean and I don't feel uncomfortable like I have in other places. Definitely recommend people to drop by to get some work done here if you are in the Los Angeles area.

Worst experience ever! It starts when I went in on my lunch break Saturday the 30th of May. I was greeted by whom I thought was a tattoo artist. I explained exactly what I wanted. A very simple, one inch line with four dots on top. I asked if we can get it done within the hour. He said he needed more time to prepare. I asked of he can see me after 8. He said it was fine and to call when I'm on my way. I had my friend call for me and say I was on my way. He said he'd be ready by the time I got there. I work right across the street. He was not ready. It took him 30 or so minutes to get his stuff together. It was 8:30. He did not own nor have access to a proper tattoo chair. He had me sit upright in a chair to tattoo the middle of my collar bone. After about an hour of not being able to hold my head up, we switch from chair to old massage table. By the time he finished, it was 12:30 am. He was going to charge me 60 but charged me 40 dollars only because I left a $20 deposit with some other lame who got fired from there. I gave him a 20 dollar tip because I'm too nice. I asked if he knew the number of a cab and if I gave him money would he take me home. He used to work at the sister shop in Pacoima, where I live. So just as I assumed he was a tattoo artist I also assumed he knew the area. Around the corner from my house is a 7 11. He asked if he can wait in the car cause he doesn't like the neighborhood. He took 5 of the 10 I offered for gas and left. When I got inside my house and cleaned my tattoo, it burned so much. He rubbed me so hard from cleaning the area for four hours that I now have a rug burn on my chest. Photo will be added. I called him for my refund and he asked me not to go into the shop at the moment because the owner of the shop was there and he didn't want this to be the first thing she sees from him since he's been traveling for the past three weeks. I found out that day that he only does piercings. He gave me 40 dollars back. What a fucking an buster. A fake, paint job buster!!! I am definitely never going back to LA Vida Tattoo, ever!!!

Got introduced by my best friend and ever since i been coming here to get my work done. Everybody is always welcoming and never leave disappointed. Chris is an amazing tattoo artist and Glare took my dermal out and healed amazing. I highly recommend this shop.

Don't come her to get a piercing. I Took my daughter here to get her Cartledge Pierced simple nothing crazy . The guy pierced her but couldn't get the earring in . So he pulled the needle out completely and tried to stick the earring in Humm didn't work hole closed . 20 mins in pain I asked him to stop and walked we out with no ear ring in just a painful ear with blood everywhere . Then he said I did a nose piercing yesterday and he took me 4 times to get it . WTF why am I your guinea pig? Learn before you keep hurting people . Don't come here he doesn't know what he is doing . I have reported this to BBB!!! read more

My husband walked over the other day to get a tattoo. We live around the corner from this joint. He had a great experience and really liked his tattoo artist Gee. This was his 1st tattoo. I then got a hankering to walk over and get a tattoo myself from Gee yesterday. Super smooth and easy. We both love our new tats! Thanks Gee!! We'll be back I'm sure. read more

Before working here, Chris Boykins worked at 5150 Tattoos on Laurel Canyon Blvd in North Hollywood July 1st, I went there and bought a Black Star with Lightning Bolt tattoo from him. He charged me $100. I was so thrilled about getting a tatt I'd wanted for a while, that I didn't question that he insisted on being paid cash, and did not give me a receipt. He did, however, give me his business card. When I saw how awful the tattoo turned out, I tried calling the shop but a recording informed that their voicemail hadn't been set up. And just now, doing an online search, the listing for the North Hollywood shop explains that the store is permanently closed. Small wonder. So I came here 3 years ago when I was 18 and stupid... I got my daughters name tattooed I liked it at first .. but now that I look it it I looks like shit.. I think I could of done a better job on it.. the tattoo letters are so thick that it bleed threw, my "E" looks like a "C" a few more years from now it's going to look like a big blob of black... now I'm looking into getting this shitty $60 tattoo worth crap fixed so not worth it asked for one tattoo artist and they gave me another one that gave me some messed up crap.. -.- even if I get my money back wouldn't mean nothing now.. read more

I've been getting tattoos from Tattoo Gee since I was 18 am 34 now... His work is like no other!!! He is a true artist!!! Which makes him an amazing tattoo artist!!! He has great placement of a tattoo, a nice gentle hand, clean lines, beautiful shading, great color tats, he can do it all! He listens to what you want and makes your vision come alive! Out of all the places in Los Angeles , I do NOT KNOW WHAT POSSESSED ME TO GO TO THIS SHIT HOLE. Lol. I mean , it is down the street from my house. May be that's why. I urge anyone to go else where. When I went In, i went right before closing. Got my nose pierced and the music was so loud I couldn't even here anything he was saying. Or what was going on. He was nice ,I guess , and really cute , I guess, but took my money , and threw me out. And he is really stuck on getting CASH. Which is suspect. Anyway ... When I got into my car, I noticed him walk outside and knock in the window of a party van, someone jumped out and run into the shop. I also thought that was a little suspect lol. My nose piercing , WOULD NOT HEAL. So I took it out and it closed two weeks later. Waste of thirty dollars. And that ten dollar tip I gave him, I'll hopefully see later on in life. So, when I decided that I'm old enough (26) to get my first tattoo. I came across this shop called "La Vida Tattoo" I look on the internet for reviews and I have read a lot of good reviews about them. So, I decided to give it a shot. I just walked-in and from there I asked one of their artist to give me an estimate and when he (Chris) and I agreed upon the price. I just showed him a pic of the tattoo I wanted to get and he did my first tattoo at that very moment. First of all the place is very nice and the artists are very friendly and informative. Chris is very professional and easy to talk with I knew from the beginning that I'm in good hands. I'm currently workin on my left arm and everytime I get a piece from Chris my left sleeve is just getting better and better! You can't go wrong if you decide to try and check these guys out. I went in to get my ears pierced and now that I have actual earrings not the studs anymore I. notice one is very crooked & high compared to the other ear I regret paying 40$ for the quality of the job I got it's not worth it read more

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and immediately made to feel at ease. The shop itself is very clean and welcoming. The jewelry is beautifully displayed. I just wish I remembered the name of the woman who helped us because she made such an impression. She walked us through all the options at different price points in a way that felt completely neutral and respectful. There was no subtle steering toward something more expensive. It genuinely felt like whatever we chose was the right choice. Ivy, my piercer, was incredibly thorough and precise. I really want to stress how pleasant and painless this piercing was. I am talking pain level 0 out of 10. I AM NOT MAKING THAT UP. She is extremely clean in her process and talked me through every step so I always knew what was happening. The room itself felt like a doctor's office in terms of cleanliness and professionalism. I wanted to write this because there aren't many reviews here about septum piercings specifically. When I was searching for where I wanted to go, Oak and Poppy kept coming up but I didn't see many septum reviews. Ivy is a true professional in this work. It's clear she knows exactly what she's doing. The staff cares about the customer's experience and it shows every step of the way. My husband and I got matching tattoos here and for the tattoo itself it's 3 stars. Today, it has been 3 days since we got the tattoo and although the tattoo itself is small, has fine lines, and is on the wrist, it appears as if it has a smear/smudge on one of the corners on both tattoos. This isn't my first tattoo, and my husband and I have been following the after care and have been careful. It's on the healing stage, but you can tell that the corner line differs and there is a smudged area on both tattoos. For both these it was $240 total and done by Chris. I will update this review once the tattoos heal completely.

I was definitely giving toddler energy by kicking my feet and asking questions and she totally entertained every second of it. We talked about movies, tv shows, travel, music, etc. The conversation totally helped distract from the pain and before i knew it the session was over. I thought parking would be tough, but i went on a Saturday afternoon and found parking relatively easily a block away on Lake Shore Ave. The quality of work is top notch and my tattoo came out exactly as i wanted it to. Chontel is amazing and so incredibly helpful. You can follow her and ask her questions about aftercare. Make sure to get your piercings downsized if they recommend it! It's $10 for the post and $5 for the piercing disc. Whenever Chontel isn't there, Lara is there, and she is also just as amazing and insightful as Chontel! Usually, the piercers are there from opening time until 8 pm, but you can always ask or text them to see if they are in for that day!

I understand that what a person wants a person should be able to get but I also feel strongly about it being the professionals job to make a customer aware of any pros/cons about the piercing and use the correct jewelry.

I have been hankering for a pedicure for a while, and not just any pedicure. I wanted something…read moremore therapeutic. My feet have been through it the last couple of years (sports) and I wanted to get serious about caring for them properly, not just getting them painted. Of course, I turned to Yelp for the scoop and zeroed in on Ms. Glen's Therapeutic Manicures & Pedicures. I finally got a chance to go see Ms. Glen and it was everything I wanted and more. It was relaxing (I fell asleep)! It was restorative! My feet felt and looked healthy and cared for. I didn't get polished which is great because I have been wanting to go natural for a while to let my nails breathe and focus on what's really happening with my toe nail health. So may things I loved (in no particular order): - Very communicative from the appointment (via phone) to the confirmation and directions (via text) - Ms. Glen greeted me at the door - The studio smells divine (really sets the tranquil mood) - The studio was intimate (just me - yay) - The space was very clean (I am a stickler for clean) - There was a complimentary water waiting on me - Ms. Glen has developed her own techniques and products which speaks to her dedication and specialization (I love people who are passionate about what they do!) - Every step of the treatment was appreciated! (very detailed, very attentive, think - pampering your feet from the in-depth massage to the parrafin to the soaks to the grooming and much much more) - I got socks! This was such a special and much needed last step that I never knew I needed. It made my feet more comfortable and protected after such a beautiful treatment. She even asked me my size. How's that for customer service! - Now this one may seem trivial but I never had to hold my feet up during the treatment unless I was transitioning from the bowl to a towel. I do not like having to do that while someone attends to the bottom of my feel or heels. Ms. Glen has it worked out where I can truly relax the whole time. I also left with one of Ms. Glen's therapeutic hand and foot oils in Lemon. She makes the oils herself! It smells so good and leaves a refreshing but not overpowering scent. It feels good oiling my feet every night. Like another reviewer said, this is not your run of the mill pedicure shop. This is a therapeutic service that is worth every penny. My goal is to make this a regular treatment. If my feet are healthy, I am healthier! Thanks Ms. Glen for such a wonderful experience! I'll be back. And thanks again for the massage therapist recommendation. Rest and recovery, here I come!

If your feet are in need of TLC, renewal and restoration, Ms. Glen has a carefully curated service that will leave your feet feeling brand new. I had recently purchased a soap that helps with skin discoloration. It hasn't been making any improvement in the uneven skin tone and dark marks on my feet. Turns out I just needed an appointment with Ms. Glen. The exfoliation she provided literally rubbed away 15 years from my feet. My dry scratchy heels were left supple and smooth and the calloused areas were left soft. Had I known what I was in store for I would have taken before and after pictures. She even provided socks for me to leave in, to seal in the moisture. My favorite part hands down was the massage. She kneaded into these tired soles, and I needed that! I paid a little more than the price listed (which she does quote as a base price) but she also spent almost 2x the amount of time listed. My Fiancé noticed the difference in appearance and feel immediately. I intentionally waited until 24 hours+ had passed to write this review, wanting to see if my feet would feel just as nice. THEY DO!! Ms. Glen definitely puts pride in her work and I love how she checked in throughout the process to ensure I was satisfied along the way. I recommend her service to anyone looking to give their feet a more youthful feel and look. And if your feet have severe issues that might keep you from visiting open public salons, her private suite will help you feel comfortable and secure. Right before I left, Ms. Glen threw in a bottle of her therapeutic hand & foot oil once she saw how dry my hands were. I had discussed my upcoming nuptials with her and she wanted to make sure my hands moisturized properly for my big day, even providing a demonstration on proper application. Ms. Glen is a gem!

Unexpected Charges and Lack of Transparency…read more I booked my appointment in person on Tuesday 7/15 because I wasn't sure what to select online for Gel-X removal. I trusted the front desk staff to guide me, and was quoted $80 for Gel-X, builder gel removal, and French tip. At my appointment on Friday 7/18, I was unexpectedly charged $110! I was told the card on file couldn't be used for the service--only for late fees or no-shows--which made no sense. If the salon can charge the card for penalties, why not for the actual service being provided? This was especially frustrating because the appointment was a gift for a huge accomplishment of mine, from my mother, so of course I didn't have the physical card with me. On top of that I was also charged extra for nail length without warning, and billed twice for polish: $20 for gel color and $15 for French tip, even though I only received 1 design; french tip. When I asked for clarification, staff just pointed to the online pricing--but I booked in person to avoid that confusion. The experience felt misleading. I intentionally came in person to avoid confusion and relied on the staff to guide me accurately. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. If you're considering booking here, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for more transparent and customer-friendly service.
