This place surprised me. One of my new fancy-ish places in the area. We made reservations for this place on a late Saturday morning for the same day at 7pm. Make sure you have specify indoor dining. The ambiance is relaxed with upbeat music playing in the background. It's a great place for a date. We ordered an espresso martini, house ricotta, pan seared salmon, and alla lori pizza. Everything had so much flavor which is what surprised me. Portions are decent. The bread that came with the house ricotta had so much flavor and they served a generous amount of ricotta. The carrots with the ricotta surprised me. It was so delicious that I ate them by itself. The alla lori pizza was my overall favorite. I never thought of adding honey to pizza. Solid spot for a night out with a significant other or with friends. I liked how it was reservations system and that everyone came to have a good time. We ordered their chicken pesto pasta, but you're able to customize protein and the type of pasta. Pizzas are really solid with different flavors every month but they have a consistent 3-5 pizzas every night. Dessert was also very good. We got their gelato ice cream that was locally made. My girlfriend and I came in craving bread (lol), and La Volata really delivered. Very good food here, and perfect for a date night. My favorite was the colcannon potatoes, which was creamy and rich. I don't think I've ever had anything quite like it; I think the menu description calls it mashed potatoes, but it's really quite a bit more special than that. Also really liked the house ricotta, which came with some roasted carrots (delicious) and the fluffiest bread. Pizza was good, if artisanal pizza is your thing. We've been wanting to visit this place for years and finally made the trip. They have two sides with several tables but reservations are highly recommended. Lighting was low but appropriate and the conversation volume was where it should be with people speaking quietly. Food was really good. The artichoke dip was the special and really good. TLDR: Above average wood fired pizza with simple, but well-crafted flavor combinations. Though there are a handful of pastas on the menu, the pizzas are where La Volata shines. The pizzas are thin crust and mine was evenly cooked with the perfect amount of just slightly overcooked crunchy bits without being burnt . I ordered the seasonal Summer Verdura pizza which had a miso cilantro lime sauce and corn. It reminded me of an Elote pizza I've had in the past from another restaurant and also very much enjoyed. It didn't have that much sauce which is my personal preference, but others may think is too dry. My friend got the honey pot pizza which she raved about. I also think it's a nice touch that you can add an egg or housemade bacon to any pizza. Our group wasn't hungry enough to try the garlic confit appetizer though we heard the people next to us raving about it. I also was eyeing the housemade ricotta, but alas, I will have to try both at my next visit I got the hot sandia summer cocktail that was refreshing bc of the fresh watermelon puree and was not very alcohol-forward, but IMO had way too much tajin on the rim and watermelon garnish. My friend got the drunken golfer and thought it had a nice balance of a citrus zing from the yuzu sake and lemon with the cooling herbaceous element from the mint. Came on a Friday night. No tables available, but we were seated at the bar top right away! Bartender was busy. Took about 10 mins to get waters brought to the bar top. Another 5 after that to get drink and appetizer order in. Roasted garlic was exactly like the name implies. I'm a garlic lover, so I was happy. But maybe some herbs or additional simple spices would elevate this appetizer. Wanted to order the rigatoni pasta, but was told only pizza and appetizers for the night. TLDR: Great food, mouse visitor on the patio We've now been to La Volata twice, and love that we can bring our small dog on their outdoor patio. Had I written my review after the first visit, it would have been four or five stars. While dining on their patio I saw something scurry in my peripheral vision, but when I looked nothing was there. A few seconds later, it happened again... but this time I saw a small mouse darting toward our table. I threw a napkin at it, and it scurried back into the bushes. A few minutes later it came back, and we did the napkin dance a second time. I let the staff know, and our waitress was apologetic and handled it very well. She told me she'd bring the owner over, but the owner seemed bothered by the conversation. She said that mice do come on the patio (as they are near a hill), and that some people like to feed them. No apology, just "some people find them cute." I wasn't expecting a comped meal or anything, but she brushed it off and seemed annoyed to be talking to me. That part bothered me. In the past I only knew about La Volata as a pizza place (their pizzas are pretty good!), but finally tried their other foods in a dine in experience and I really enjoyed their food! If you're local, this is a good place for weeknight date, to catch up with a friend, and take a guest out. Although they serve alcohol, I'd say this is still very family friendly. In fact behind us was a table with a family celebrating with young ones over pizza. Everything tasted phenomenal. We ordered rigatoni with pesto, and the roasted duck with cheesy polenta. And then, as an afterthought we added the bread plate as appetizer because the people next to us had it and it looked good. I'm not really into the fine dining scene, so for me the dishes were very posh and elegant, without being pretentious. The first item up was the bread plate. I really wasn't expecting anything to catch my attention but their olives were so good! I am no olive conneseuir and don't love them otherwise, but I did here. There was a sprinkling of something with a slight licorice taste and it oddly complimented the flavors. We asked our waitress out of curiosity and discovered that it is fennel pollen. I just love it when you discover a new food ingredient like that! I truly believe great food does not need to be expensive or "fancy", and their rigatoni is a great example. Although we added chicken, the noodles and sauce made sure to tell me they are the main event of the dish. Their menu said the noodles were house made. In the sauce, the flavor of the different ingredients worked in great harmony with one another. Definately not a jarred pesto. It was just really well done. In fact, next time I wouldn't add chicken, it was a little dry. The polenta with duck dish was also really good. Polenta was cheesy and flavorful, duck was fatty but not greasy, a little crisp, the tartness of apples on top cuts the grease and balances out the flavors. Yum. Portion wise, it looked small though and the plate looked oddly incomplete in a way because of extra space. I'd even say, a hungry person would not be filled up with just this dish. At the moment though, I was just glad we got the appetizer. And for this I'm actually rating this place a more of 3.5 star, but am rounding up. As a recommendation to the business, I think a simple green salad would nicely fill out the space. The bill for 2 people after 1 drink, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees with tax and tip was close to $100. I think next time we will order 1 pizza and 1 pasta to be more budget friendly. But all in all, I had a delightful experience. The waitress was wonderful and gave great suggestions . However, the hostess, who is a tiny blonde was very strange. Bottom line: pizza place with a few pasta entrees, a few meat and seafood entrees that tries to be gourmet, takes some risks, but ultimately falls short. The bar is where they shine with their small selection of beers and well-made cocktails. If you plan on dining here, you may want to make a reservation if you want to sit inside. Reservations are mandatory for Sundays. Ambiance is disjointed as it's split in half, likely took over the adjacent business. The decor doesn't really flow well, but it's not so bad that it's distracting. Open floor layout, no privacy between diners, not really a place for a quiet meal. Service was mostly on point. Most indoor tables were occupied, half the bar occupied with 2-3 servers, 1 at front, and 3 bartenders. Drinks took a lot longer than expected with the number of bartenders. Ordered Margherita pizza, charcuterie board, rigatoni. Drinks were a beer on tap, cocktail, and mocktail. Pizza was a little above average. But considering the price, average. Rigatoni was unimpressive. The charcuterie board was solid. Tried their cured duck, which was different, very game-y if you don't eat duck normally. So, the nice thing is, the food tastes like they use fresh or local foods. But it feels like they are relying heavily on that. Flavors don't really seem to work well. Cocktail and mocktail were really well put together. Could taste the fresh ingredients in the Moscow mule, especially the ginger. Place is just OK. Not sure I'd come back as you can find pizza in the area that are better at same or slightly lower price point. Entrees are limited and feels like an attempt to curate according to season and availability of ingredients but not impressive. If you work nearby, this might be a place you take a client to for drinks and a small bite. Not really a quiet romantic date place. We dined outside and there were space heaters, an overhead tent, lights, a raised plank floor, and these beautiful beautiful epoxy tables with flowers inside. The food mostly lived up to the hype. It was all presented beautifully, with unique ingredients and flavors. My favorite was the australian wagyu filet. Least favorite was an orange (?) chocolate cheesecake with chantilly cream, it tasted good, but like a random chocolate cake from the bakery with reddi-whip on top. Overall, I had a really good experience, but with two glaring problems. One, the food is super pricey. Two, some of the portion sizes are... tiny. My entree was ONE ravioli, and a few mushrooms. The other things we ordered were more appropriately sized, but still not anywhere near enough to justify the cost. So either expect to empty your wallet or leave hungry. This is our local go to for wildfire pizza. Simple is best, so we always order the Margherita pizza. Fresh made to order with homemade tomato sauce and dough. Each season there's a pasta dish that tickles our fancy, and the all time favorite Italian dish that we all fought over was the Raviolo-- that's right just one amazing, flavor packed raviolo! I really enjoy this place! The pizza is delicious! They are always busy. The cocktails are good! It's a kid friendly place, but upscale from your traditional pizza joint. They also have variety of other things on the menu, and while my kids are the ones ordering the buttered noodles I would be lying if I said I didn't steal a few of them because they are amazing! In non-pandemic times, we have eaten at La Volata many times. This isn't your usual pizza pie joint - it has its own style and vibe that isn't found elsewhere in Redlands. The tone is set by its imported Italian pizza oven, which was personalized in tile by master craftsmen. The food reflects the uniqueness of this oven: the light woody flavor, intense heat or just its glow. You can taste the result in the Funghi pizza. While the ingredients are simple and few, the flavors work well together. The taste of the mushrooms are nutty and prominent. Being a thin crust, it balances well with the mushrooms and doesn't over power them. We particularly like the light smokiness of the citrus wood fire. The Winter Salad was a good compliment with this pizza. It was light, particularly with the chevre and citrus vinaigrette dressing. The toasted pinenuts added the right amount of crunch. On this particular night we had to call in twice to get through. But to my amazement, they said our order would be ready in 15 minutes. We arrived in 15 minutes, and our order was good to go. Relative to other pizzerias La Volata is a bit pricey but we believe the value is there for the price.
