Don't be fooled by the pictures because I asked for the fire cream pasta to be less spicy and omg I feel like they made it extra spicy. The pasta did not taste creamy at all. It just tasted like fire. The tornado omurice is probably one of the most popular dish on the menu, but I was not too impressed. It was very saucy and there was not enough rice to cover it up. This place has AMAZING FOOD. We got the Takoyaki, donkatsu, Katsudon, and sushi. The donkatsu is so tender on the inside but so crispy on the outside. The takoyaki is so soft and fluffy and flavorful. The katsudon does have a lot of veggies but is perfectly made. Tonado Omurice was good. Though, I have not had it before so I have nothing to compare it to. The egg was perfectly cooked and the dish was not too salty or too bland. Presentation wise, very presentable as seen in the photo Don Katsu, just like any other Katsu, really good! No complaints, cant really mess this one up. We found a new local favorite that serves a variety of asian dishes. The selection is quite vast that it takes up an entire periodic table. The menu idea is cute and the interior is fancy. Everything reminds me of a late night search for a Korean restaurant in LA. There is sushi, ramen, udon, Thai dishes such as pad thai and drunken noodles, Korean favorites such as jjajangmyun, galbitang, and kimchi fried rice, galbi pho, and bun cha. I can't name a popular asian dish that they don't have. My husband first bought home the tornado omurice with pork belly fried rice covered with silky and soft egg, and the cheese donkatsu with crispy and seasoned pork smothered with cheese. Both dishes were so delicious and comforting. The fried rice had a fragrant taste and the donkatsu was fried perfectly. The next takeout was potato shrimp (lightly fried on the outside with crispy potato), don pas (light and creamy pasta sauce with the pork loin fried perfectly), and bun cha (well seasoned meat with a variety of toppings). My toddler loved the sauce for the potato shrimp. She used it with the pork from the don pas a well. She loves pasta and devoured the noodles in the don pas. The sauce for the bun cha isn't as fishy and spicy as I personally like. But they made that dish so beautiful with all the colorful and pickled vegetables, noodles, and seasoned pork. I love wrapping all of the ingredients in the fresh lettuce for that crunch and clean taste. We plan to definitely continue takeout and try more of their food. Lots of parking space and the inside is very spacious. We came here to eat their tornado omurice. The sauce was sweet and tangy with a nutty body, and it went sooo well with tonkatsu. The rice was fluffy and overall such a good dish. We also ordered the Don Pas, which was a cream pasta with mushrooms, green onions, bokchoy, sliced garlic, and bacon with a side of tonkatsu. I have to admit that I recently came to realize that there is some really bomb asian food in Centreville (I had mostly been going to Annandale up until this point). Needless to say, Lab No. 1 continues to make Centreville proud. I came here on a strong recommendation from a fellow yelp elite well versed in the area -- they described Lab No. 1 as a fusion asian spot and that is about as accurate a description as possible. On my way here, I was advised that the Bun Cha was a MUST order. Since we were ordering for two, we also ordered the corn cheese side dish (I have an unhealthy obsession with corn cheese), and the tornado omurice, based on the photos from other Yelpers. First of all, the Bun Cha was AMAZING! The sweetness of the noodles paired with the soft chewiness of the meat, all wrapped up in a fresh lettuce leaf? Seriously, who could say no to that. At it's price, it could easily have been the only entree on the table for two and we would've been stuffed. The corn cheese came quickly, and was still sizzling when it arrived at the table. It was very flavorful (owing to the healthy dose of butter) but still good -- my only suggestion would be to add a little bit more corn to the mix. The Tornado Omurice was also pretty good, with a very interesting scrambled soft egg covering some bacon fried rice -- the taste here was VERY savory, and kind of took me by surprise. We tried the Omurice, chicken katsu, potato fried shrimp and the miso soup. Every single dish was spot on! Big portions, tasty, flavorful, we were delighted! We got there around 940pm to grab a late dinner and they said as long as you order your food within 20 minutes, we could stay and eat even after close (restaurant closes at 1030pm and we're not those people but they offered). We thought, "alright, awesome.. we can do that planning to just eat and get out as soon as possible". We ordered immediately and got our food at around 10:10pm. About five minutes after receiving our food, they came by with the check as they needed to close the register.. okay! Absolutely no worries. After another five minutes at 10:20, they come to the table and tell us "you have 5 minutes to finish your food or pack it since the restaurant is closing" and at this point we still have about half our food left. How can you do that to paying customers especially when you told them otherwise? This was absolutely unacceptable and it seemed that they only wanted to make a quick sale of food/tip and didn't care about anything else. At the end of the day, we didn't get a single apology from any of the servers or manager. Next time, just let us know you have a hard close time and we will figure something else out. It was quite busy last night here at this restaurant; surprising as COVID is still pretty active. I guess people still need to live their lives lol. Anyways, I would definitely have rated Lab No.1 as a solid 4 star rating; I had to deduct a point as the service wasn't the best. We actually received water after waving down another server well after we received our first order. Our order consisted of the donkatsu curry rice and the lab sushi platter for two. The curry rice with the pork cutlet was fairly decent; it seems they have their own spin on the curry as the taste and texture were fairly unique. The cutlet was slightly dry but I suppose controlling the moisture level in a cutlet that thin is difficult to begin with. The sushi was beautifully presented and the server had omitted the escolar/white tuna as I had requested. The neta on the sushi was quite long/thick which is good from a value perspective I guess, but not optimal when eating. The shari was fair but slightly underseasoned and the temperature of it was expected as it was a set plate presented all at once. The soy sauce was not a special blend from the chef but just a straight kikkoman offering. I usually try not to eat sushi from a non-edomae omakase perspective but dine-in omakase is much harder to come by if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg in DC. I love trying interesting menu items and the selection they had was plentiful (it was still soft opening, so not EVERYTHING was on the menu but there was Plenty to choose from). We ordered Tako yaki, kahn pung shrimp, don pas, drunken noodles, curry katsu, and the snow crunch roll. We got complementary miso soup that was delicious and there really was not a single issue with any of our foods. Everything was Instagram quality picturesque, and fresh. The Kahn pung shrimp was my favorite. Great level of flavor and spice. Definitely spicy, but I love spicy so just be aware that it got some heat. I tried a little bit of everything and I have to say, any of the entrees or appetizers we got will not disappoint. The service was great and staff are extremely friendly. Lastly, if you get a chance, YOU HAVE TO TRY the Kyoto Matcha IPA. I am not much for an IPA, but I love green tea anything. Give it a try because it is hands down my favorite IPA I've ever tried. Decided to stop by after coming back from Aldie for lunch. The restaurant itself is very clean and spacious. I like the concept they have going on inside and appreciated the attentive service from the servers. The presentation of the food is also nice. Past that - The food I tried was definitely just "ok". Maybe it's on me for ordering a Pad Thai at a fusion restaurant but my SO and I thought the meat was very chewy and aside from the peanuts the meal overall was pretty bland aside from the spiciness from the seasoning that they used. The Tornado Omurice was presented in a nice way but the sauce was thick and had way too much of a ketchup flavored base to it. It overpowered the flavor of the rice and egg when eaten together. I wouldn't recommend getting the Pad Thai and only getting the Omurice if you're *really* a fan of ketchup. I probably won't be returning here. The food I had was nothing special which is a shame because the atmosphere and plating that they have are very nice to see in the area. Today was a holiday "Presidents' Day"and was super excited to take the whole family there for ramen, and sushi and appetizer. We specifically went a little late afternoon so that we can go after the lunch crowd. It was not busy as we came around 12:50. We got seated and got the menu and water. But waited over 17 minutes and the two servers saw me looking around as we needed to put in our order. They visited the table behind us and to the next to us and failed to stop by our table 2-3 times. We gave it another minute, but decided to leave after now almost 20 minutes. like I said there were only 1 big table of 12 whose already got there food. 1 table That's waiting for there check, 1 table eating , 1 guy by himself ordered and waiting for his food. The guys behind the sushi bar noticed that we were getting up but totally ignored. The waitress who sat us saw us as I open the door to leave. Zero response as family of 5 was walking out. It is unfortunate that customer service is so poor and lacking at Lab 1. I would visit this place with friends and family, and spend a lot of money there. I think this is my last visit, as this happened a several times and finding hair in my fire noodles last visit, where they didn't take that off the receipt. Just a poor business sense and lack of caring for customer retention. Well today they lost my business and the rest of my family and friends as I would not recommend. So we went across the street to oseyo with the family sat down and was able to order in 5 minutes and got the food in 10 minutes. The food portions are very decent and you could get an app and one dish and share like I did with my niece. They're slow to refill your waters, but they are nice. The food though... we ordered 2 rolls (salmon love roll and dynamite roll), cheese ddukbokki, crab fried rice and jjam bbong tang. The 2 rolls were delicious! You get 8 pieces for each roll and they were both about $13-15 dollars each. Crab fried rice was good, but the portion was small.
