We've been to Lap No.1 maybe three times since around COVID, and our experiences have been pretty hit or miss. The food quality and taste aren't always consistent. This time, I ordered the Salmon Lover combo, which I've had before and really enjoyed, but unfortunately it didn't taste as good as I remembered. The rice was very moist, so the sushi kept falling apart when I picked it up with chopsticks, and the salmon didn't seem as fresh this time either. That said, the server was nice and attentive, which we appreciated. I would still be open to coming back to try other dishes on the menu and hope the food will be better next time.
Came here on a whim with some friends and we had a family style meal! I've been here before in the past and was not that impressed but this time things were different: The food was cooked perfectly, the pas was delicious, the fried rice was also so good. Sushi tasted fresh. Service was quick and I had no complaints. The ambiance is modern, spacious, and low light for a chill and good time! They do play music so if you're looking for something more intimate and romantic, this wouldn't be it. Overall, would recommend!
Went with my family and will be honest, the customer service I did not appreciate as much. We were seated under the air vent and my dad was cold, so we kindly asked to moved seats. Server had a annoyed facial expression and moved us. Food was alright, honestly not the best combo after the server's attitude. Interior of the spot is well nicely layed out. It's got a japanese and korean fusion style pub. Neon light signs with japanese newpaper on the wall. Would have to reconsider visiting again.
ROTTEN FISH BECAREFUL! This restaurant sold rotten tuna and justified it was frozen, the owner was yelling because we said we won't eat it. He later slammed the empty chair on our table as he was enraged. We got up immediately and left although we had much more food coming. The restaurant was filthy as I walked out fifteen that walking in, I would've left immediately. Treats his employees like slaves yelling and threatening they will lose their jobs all around a disgusting place with terrible customer service and failed management. Do NOT go to this restaurant. I don't know how code administration hasn't shut them down by now.
Love lab 1! We always come for the omu rice, and Japanese lasagna roll. The fried chicken wings are perfectly cooked with the best crispy exterior. The service is always good and fast!
This place offers quite an extensive menu featuring Asian fusion cuisine. There were lots to choose from ranging from sushi, sashimi, pho, katsu and many more! Service: Staff were super friendly and checked on my table often. Our waitress gave recommendations as it was hard to choose from such a large menu. Ambiance: The decor and furnishings were modern and gave a cool atmosphere. The wall art was very unique and gave the place character. Food: 1. Shrimp potato: This dish was just okay IMO. Very simple dish and not that memorable. 2. Chirashi: Big cuts of sashimi that were fresh and delicious. Too much rice though. 3. Chicken Katsu curry: Big portions and delicious curry flavor. Chicken was crispy yet moist.
Tried the fire jjamppong and it came loaded with toppings--the large was super filling. The crab fried rice was also a hit, with big chunks of real crab meat that felt generous. Surprisingly, their nigiri sushi (scallop and yellowtail) was super fresh and really good quality, which isn't something you always expect at a Korean restaurant. The only miss for me was the Earl Grey highball--it leaned a little too sweet. Overall though, solid spot with a wide variety of good dishes.
If you love all types of Asian food and have trouble choosing a specific cuisine, this place is your answer! Lab No.1 is a fusion of Korean, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines, so there's something for everyone, from pho to sushi, from bulgogi to drunken noodles. Came here for a Valentine's Day date, and it was everything we could've hoped for! Friendly and quick service, very nicely decorated space, and delicious food. My boyfriend specifically chose this place to try the soju + beer tower, which did not disappoint him. The food portions are huge, and the prices are reasonable for the size and quality. We tried the Hawaiian sunset roll which was phenomenal, the jjajangmyeon which was creamy and very flavorful, the hot and crispy gyoza, the rose tteokbokki which was delicious but very spicy even after asking to dial down the spice, and the curry katsu. This was a ton of food for the two of us, so we ended up taking half home and finishing it the following day. Can't recommend this place more!
This restaurant has quickly become my favorite go to spot for late night fresh sushi. I stumbled upon this restaurant one night, hungry, and unsure of what I was craving. I frequently visit the restaurants in the shopping center and I had driven by this restaurant many times and wondered what a restaurant with the name as unique as lab number one could possibly serve. My curiosity got the best of me and I finally walked in one night and boy am I glad I did. I purchased an assortment of my favorite sushi always the spicy tuna roll with added tempura crunch on top, a fresh Philly roll, and a couple pieces of fresh sashimi. The first time I went, I was lucky enough to get the fresh scallop sashimi and it was absolutely delicious. I was pretty hungry, so I also opted for the veggie udon soup. Ultimately, I was not impressed with the veggie udon soup. The udon noodles were cooked perfectly, but the flavor was lacking. In my opinion I wouldn't return for their soup...BUT the sushi was very very good. The fish in the sushi was plentiful and nothing was skimped on. I returned another time since then for sushi and it was equally as delicious. The restaurant was out of the scallop much to my chagrin, but regardless got our favorites as well as some specialty rules and none of them disappointed!! As mentioned this place has quickly become my go to for a late night sushi. I would recommend anybody to come here. The decor and ambiance is very nice, I love the whole "table of contents" mural to tie in the name of the restaurant and the menu. Whenever I go, the restaurant is never truly packed, but the individuals that are there seem to be regulars and always enjoying their meal.
Really cool atmosphere. Like a modern hip version of am izakaya. Extensive menu. I embarrassingly took like 25 min to decide what I wanted to order because there were so many choices. When you're on a work expense budget, ya gotta be strategic! Tried the tteobokki (I know I misspelled this). Pieces were tender and the sauce was flavorful. Tater tots were over fried, but kinda delicious to dip in the tteobokki sauce. I'm sure Koreans would cringe at that but whatever, it was tasty! Takoyaki were really good. You can get 32 oz of beer for about $13 and it's on draft. Yuengling and other Japanese beers on tap. Kevin was my server and he was patient and helpful. Cool guy. Looks like the villain in Rush Hour 1 movie but with a nice personality. This place is awesome!
Another place in the DMV that has Omurice! A fusion restaurant featuring many popular Asian dishes, this place is worth checking out if you want a cool place to sit down comfortably and hang out with your friends. Since it was just my friend and I we opted to sit by the bar section. We were served immediately as we placed our orders in. I got Gyoza as my appetizer and Sapporo beer to drink. What I really like about this place is that they make sure the glass mugs are cold. They have this weird machine that chills it quickly making beer or any alcohol more enjoyable to drink. No one wants to drink beer warm. The gyoza was good but it's just standard Gyoza; fried edible bites of goodness. The Tornado Omurice was really good! You definitely do get alot as there's a lot of egg and fried rice underneath. I think the sauce is a bit very ketchupy but it doesnt hamper the experience. It was filling and I would say it's a great pick. Open till 2 AM unless it's Sunday ( they are open till 12 AM ) this is a good place to eat with friends!
The ambience here is unique, to say the least. It's definitely an upscale dining experience. Probably a great place to take a date. They do a variety of Asian cuisines, so there's something for everybody. My best friend and I split the potato shrimp - it was exactly as advertised, shrimp wrapped in fried potato. It was very good. For my main, I was debating between tonkatsu curry and curry udon, and made the last second decision to go for curry udon. Unfortunately, the curry udon was not what I expected in the slightest. I've had curry udon before, and it's usually thick noodles in a thick curry sauce. This was normal udon in normal broth with a slight curry taste. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it did not scratch the itch for curry that I had. So, avoid the curry udon. I would recommend going here for special occasions or just to try it out.
Food is always consistently tasty and the service is friendly and attentive. Everything is really good but top picks food-wise are the myeongran cream pasta (favorite in the area), tornado omurice, and the don pas (spicy if you can handle it!). And sushi wise - it's always fresh and delicious! All the nigiri's are good, Pocahontas roll, and salmon love roll are our go-to's.
I've been here twice and always come for the tornado omurice. The tornado omurice is a must try! Good tangy/sweet flavor paired with rice. While eating, you can enjoy a wide array of kpop music in the background. There's also TVs where you can watch the music videos similar to most Korean bbq places in the area. There's also a selection of alcohol offered. The menu is mainly Korean/Japanese with staples like bulgogi, tonkatsu, and there's also plenty sushi offerings as well! The sushi was decent but would most likely go to a sushi restaurant if I was craving sushi. Overall atmosphere is nice with a mix of modern and classic for restaurant. I believe I saw a darts board and an arcade system towards the bar area. There is a nice waterfall fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Definitely try it for unique food you couldn't get in most places in the area! read more

Very unique and creative Asian fusion cuisine! After seeing the pictures online, I knew I HAD to have the Tornado Omurice, and it didn't disappoint! I do have a small warning - the sauce was super sweet and was quite overwhelming as other reviews have stated so I recommend not cramming a whole dollop into your first bite. The egg was beautifully presented and the rice had a delicious, almost smoky, taste. I would come back for this alone! Our table also ordered a few rolls of sushi which were fresh and tasty. I do think some of the other dishes were hit or miss; while I was in love with my dish and the Don Pas has this delicious creamy pasta and perfectly crispy pork cutlet, some BBQ options such as the bulgolgi/spicy pork bulgolgi could've used a little more flavor in my opinion. The tofu kimchi was good and I can see how someone opting for this as a less heavy option but I can't justify the price for literal kimchi and tofu spread on a plate. Our server was awesome and handled a table of 7 really well. A couple of female servers were also nearby and jumped in if we needed anything extra. For the amazing service and comforting meals, this is definitely one to keep in mind. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this place. It was very cool and trendy inside. It was very busy and we didn't have a reservation, but we were seated immediately. I really enjoyed the rolls we got and the corn cheese appetizer. The lab no 1 roll was very spicy but very good. I wish the miso soup had more tofu - but that's a personal preference. I came back again to get take out just a week later. I will note that it is pricey, but I thought it was worth it. read more
I have been meaning to try this place for a long time after being recommended by one of my close friends. What a fun, hip restaurant. It's like a casual Asian diner with some young vibes. The servers were very nice and service was generally very good, attentive and quick. I tried to tornado omurice which is the main staple here. Amazing. I loved how fluffy the egg was, it almost made me feel like they made it souffle style. The sauce is very tangy and sweet. There's fried rice underneath and complements very well with the egg and sauce. The bu dae tang (aka army stew) was good. It's hard to go wrong with the flavors but I appreciated how filling it was. They did not cut out on any ingredients. Overall, I'll definitely be back to try other menus too. But I think I'll end up ordering the tornado omurice again... read more

Pretty place with average but pricey food. Not kid friendly It's a very pretty place inside, nicely decorated. They don't have a kids menu or a sides menu which was surprising. The menu is made up of a nice mix of Asian fusion (Thai, Korean, Japanese) and modern Asian food. The presentations were pretty but the food taste was unimpressive for the price. Pictured is their volcano ramen, I was disappointed with amount of toppings especially the pork (that's right I got 2 tiny thin pieces and that's it) serving size was really small compared to most. The king kalbitang was very nice but overpriced with close to $30. read more
This was my second time here, and both times didn't disappoint. We got the corn cheese this time, but it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. The sushi here isn't too bad for its price, but the omurice and other main dishes are quite pricey. Great taste and portion sizes though, so I wouldn't mind coming back here again. read more

I order cream pasta and found two cardboards/thick paper in the pasta. First time I didn't thought it was something from the pasta but then it happened three times so I had to spit it out and see. We called the server she said she's going to talk to the kitchen and never came back. We waited for 10 min and realized she already came out but didn't get back to us. So we called her again and she said yea I told the kitchen. So we were like okay? But are you going to do anything about it now? She said NO, I'm not the manager so I can't do anything and she brought the check. So we asked for the manger and she said the manger is off today. This attitude made me want to write this view. The photo was before and I didn't take a photo for evidence she took the napkin right away. read more

I had always wanted to try the omurice that you split down the middle and the egg just falls over the rice like molten lava. That was not what I found here but I did have a great omurice! It was beautiful and very very tasty. The only problem I had with it is that it was the tomato sauce got a little nauseating after a while but for the first 5 minutes the dish was amazing. My girlfriend ordered the udon and we definitely had no problems with it! The broth was very tasty and it was fun to slurp the noodles up. The selection is massive here so I will definitely be back someday to try more things! read more

Great experience - love the vibe, very hip and trendy, fitting for the fusion menu. Heard lots of great things about the spot and have been wanting to check out. The food was very great, I did have a standard since fusion dishes would usually have some special twist on the traditional dishes, and they delivered for sure. Our favorites were the omurice and the pasta. We were warned that the fire cream pasta is very spicy and some would send the dish back, but it wasnt too bad, it's a fun but definitely good spicy. AESTHETICS!!! Lab no. 1 is an asian bistro full of diffent cuisines- Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, etc. I don't come here as often as I wish i could, but the interior is amazing. The wall is a periodic table of the menu! Some of the dishes also come in really cool plates/bowls like the takoyaki, which I loved here. The sushi hits the spot here. It's a masterpiece on it's own and it tastes so fresh and has high umami flavor. The cream pastas are also awesome!! But if you're planning to get the spicy cream pasta, I would recommend asking for less spicy... and if not, ask for a pitcher of water... they're not joking when they double check with you that it's SPICY. I haven't explored too much of the menu, but I can't wait to come by more often and try more stuff like the bun cha! read more
I really wanted to come to this place because it had so many korean and fushion dishes I wanted to try. I literally couldn't choose because I wanted to try everything and I am super indecisive... lol but I finally went with Don Pas which is donkatsu + cream pasta. I don't know if it was good because I was super hungry but I really liked it! Very creamy and went well with the katsu :) I also had potato shrimp. I didn't have high expectations but it was surprisingly good. SO CRISPY. I wanna go back and try some of their other menus too because there were so many!!! read more

Food was good. Seems pricey for 3 items. Got the omurice, shrimp Pad Thai, and #59 Funky Roll sushi. The tornado omurice was okay but didn't think it was worth $16. I thought it would be a lot bigger. In the Pad Thai dish, the shrimp was sparse and they didn't use the same shrimp in the dish. They had some tiny shrimp and small shrimps with the tail on it. For $17, I would want decent size shrimp and be all the same. Funky Roll was okay too. Maybe it would have been better if I have sushi at the restaurant rather than takeout. $11 is high for California roll that is just deep fried. I'm not totally against going to this restaurant. Maybe next time, I will pick something else on the menu or just eat sushi and re-rate them. read more

Tasty food and good service. I enjoyed the omurice, but the sauce was a little too overpowering/salty. I also wished there was more going on in the fried rice itself, but the dish overall was still delicious and pretty. The vibe of the restuarant is cool and casual. Some of the menu items are a bit overpriced, but I'd say it's worth checking out if you want to try Asian fusion cuisine. read more

On Saturday evening, it was not crowded at all and we were immediately seated. Service from the wait staff was great. We were there for snacks and drinks. Foremost, we really enjoyed the extra cold beer served in a pitcher with a cooling element. Good quality of food, vegetarian items, good quiet service, clean and roomy environment. The Japanese fare sushi, maki, and seaweed salad were all good. Not going to dream about them but would definitely have again here. Edamame was cooked perfectly, i.e., evenly, not too crunchy not too mushy, with very light touch of salt. Jjamppong (red spicy noodle seafood soup) was very good. We were warned it would be verrry spicy so asked for less spicy. We were warned less spicy would still be pretty spicy...and that was good advice. What would jjamppong be without heat anyway? Maybe udon? It is a large serving with generous amount of seafood. Addition of two or three straight forward comfort food options would make is place perfect choice for gathering anytime w anyone. read more
Lab No.1 is a great spot to get a mix of Asian dishes (Japanese-Korean-Chinese). They have all sorts of things on their menus like noodles, curries, katsus, sushi, etc. Their portion sizes are very generous and the food is consistent. The service is good and the employees are very nice. I will say that the sushi rice was a little hard compared to better sushi places,but it might have just been an off day. Food was good. We order don katsu and fish egg soup. It was pretty good. Don katsu was juicy dipping sauce was good. Fish egg soul was great. They give a lot of fish egg. They give good service. Hmmmmm. I've come here twice and the first time it was pretty good which is why I decided to return. First time was in July of 2021 and the second time was December of 2021 when it was quite disappointing. For a Friday night, it was pretty empty so that was a bit odd but I got seated quickly with 3 friends and I ordered the donkatsu with curry rice. The katsu was fine but the curry had nothing inside - no vegetables and honestly the flavor was very lacking. The ddukboki was supposed to be the appetizer for the table and it ended up coming out last and the dish was very disappointing bc it was very watery and just didn't taste like a ddukboki flavor. Not sure what was going on that night, maybe a new chef? But overall I'm not sure if I'd return but if I do, that will have to be the true final chance to see if it's worth it. read more
i come here so often i thought i might as well leave a review! i'm usually hesitant with trying new things just because whenever i do, i'm disappointed. however, Lab No. 1 really boosted my confidence in trying new dishes. what caught my eye was their cover menu! they're offering limited time only summer dishes!! really should come check it out before summer ends. service: 3/5 my boyfriend and i were greeted immediately upon entrance and sat down right afterwards. however, we waited 12 minutes for someone to take our order. we noticed some of the servers were in the back conversing... when other customers came in AFTER us they were sat down but had their orders taken before us. yes, we tried waving and calling out but they moved really, really fast they didn't notice! i think after a new table sat next to us was when one of the servers noticed.. food - Jaru Soba (cold soba noodles): 5/5 the cold broth was very savory and sweet. the wasabi made a perfect combo with the chewy and bouncy noodles. the shredded radish on the side also added extra texture to the broth and noodles. cant go wrong with green onion -- eat your colors! it may look small but it was a pretty medium-large portion (i'm 5'3" and get full fast but this was manageable). the broth was so cold and refreshing that you had to slurp your noodles fast or it would harden and turn pale, kinda like a texture of undercooked noodle. my boyfriend also loved this dish and thought the wasabi paired super well with everything! make sure to mix it in thoroughly! jjajangmyun (black bean noodles): 5/5 i love how Lab No.1 offers fried egg on top of the black bean noodles with no cost. WE LOVE EGGS! this was what my boyfriend ordered and he ate it up pretty quickly. what we both noticed was the Jaru Soba and the Jjajangmyun were both savory, but more on the sweeter side. no complaints because the pork, onions, etc made up for the saltiness. the noodles were a little thicker than what we were used to but it was still very bouncy and delicious to consume :3 Toro MP nigiri and Sake nigiri sushi (tuna market price and salmon nigiri sushi): 3/5 the toro was $16.95 MP and it was not worth it. this was the first time toro nigiri disappointed me. i was initially craving sushi so i almost ordered the Pocahontas roll, but i didn't want my eyes being bigger than my stomach so i made a choice to go with nigiri sushi instead. it was dark almost like undercooked meat.. very fishy and warm. wasn't fresh at all. the salmon was ok. in my opinion, you can't go with salmon unless you're trying to. it wasn't as fresh either but it was better than the toro for sure. i suggest if you're gonna order anything market price, do your research, read reviews, look up tiktok or youtube videos, OR better yet, just go to an authentic sushi restaurant. still will order sushi at Lab No. 1 in the future!! just not the toro .. sorry. restaurant: 4/5 i'm not usually one to notice the ambiance but it was clean and not extremely busy. after my boyfriend and i came in though, more people showed up! crazy coincidence LOL. love their wall to this day. it's very creative how they incorporated their menu to a periodic table. what throws me off is the music doesn't match the KPOP music videos on the TV.. sometimes when i doze off while lost in transit from the delicious food, i notice that most when i snap back to reality HAHAHA. read more

I have ordered here previously. However, I only did to go and did not go inside the restaurant since my friend picked up the food. This time I dined in and my oh my. The restaurant is super cute! I loved that the theme is apparent throughout the restaurant. The food was beyond delicious and I tried some new dishes that I didn't order the first time. The service was good and the food all came at a reasonable time. I would 100% continue to come back and recommend to all my friends!! read more

This is my second time here. This time I just order sushi and i would say that only good was uni and salmon, other sushi wasnt quite fresh and rice was hard . I love their corn cheese though! Food was slow and ambiance was good. read more
What's up food fams. Was near the Dulles Airport area and decided to see what's around. Low and behold, Lab No. 1. This cool take on Asian fusion caught my eye when I saw a certain dish on the net. Fast forward to the place. The interior is trendy and spacious. Staff are safely masked up and super friendly. Now food time. I got the cheese corn appetizer, fire cream pasta, and the tornado omurice (yup, it was the tornado omurice that caught my eye ). The corn cheese was super cheesy mixed with sweet corn. I think there might have been a bit of mayo mixed in but it could just be the amazing amount of gooey mozzarella cheese! The fire cream pasta had a fragrant tasty creamy spicy kick. The noodles were smooth and the creamy sauce was plentiful and had a nice consistency that was not clumpy. I really like the bok choi, mushrooms, fresh mussels, and sliced garlic. Now...the tornado omurice...flavor town!!! I first saw this on a YouTube video and thought it looked awesome and yummy. Well...Lab No. 1 made it awesome and yummy!! The egg was creamy and well layered over a bed of delicious bacon fried rice. The thing that really widened my eyes and heightened my tastebuds was the sauce. I think it was some type of donkatsu sauce that was tangy, sweet, and savory all in one go. Mixing this sauce with the creamy omelet and fried rice was out of this world! This is a must if you come here! DO IT!! I absolutely loved this place. Everything about this restaurant is tip top tier in my eyes. Will definitely come back for more of their other delicacies! My husband and I stopped in for lunch and were really impressed. The restaurant is very clean and trendy. The employees are taking COVID protocols seriously: temp checks at the door, properly wearing masks, tables spaced well. We ordered the dancing eel roll, volcano ramen, and spicy seafood yaki udon. I would go back for the sushi roll alone. It was stupid good. The seafood udon was packed with seafood, but I was disappointed at the tails on the shrimp. The volcano ramen was actually spicy and had great flavor. read more

Pleasantly surprised with how good the omurice was. Definitely lived up to expectations. It is definitely on the more flavorful side, and it WILL fill you up. The rice was seasoned really well but it will be swimming in the sauce in the end - I didn't have any problem with it but not everyone might feel the same. And it's a little tomato-ey. Also got the jjajjangmyun - and it is humongous omg. Like the bowl was as big as my torso. Wish they gave more meat but still good - I'd bump my review down to 4.5 stars if I could because of this cause eventually it got boring since it was just noodle and sauce. Service was great, our server was attentive and food came out very fast. Good, clean atmosphere, and lots of drink options. Def come here if you get a chance! read more

Any dine-in lunch specials?
No. I did not see any when I was there. But the food was pretty good, the price is fair for the amount of food and taste.
