My friends and I had at gathering at Labas today. This is my second time visiting this restaurant. I was hoping that the experience would be better than the first visit. Boy was I wrong and disappointed. The service is slow. There were not many people dining in on Friday. It took over 35 mins to bring a salad and bread to the table. I ordered a burger well done. Not only did the cook fixed the burger well done but he burnt the damn onions and bun. It taste just like the pictures I'm including in this visit. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I've been living in Monee for some time now, and I drive by this place every day. I finally took the time to visit and man was I glad! For starters, this place is a hidden gem. You wouldn't expect much out of a small town like Monee, but like the Polish restaurant a couple buildings down, this place is phenomenal. Our server Mark is such a server, we talked forever. He is a delightful man. The interior is beautifully lit at night time, it's a very cozy atmosphere with dim lighting, cozy table cloths, and a warm toned bar. I love the set up of the tables inside. They have an upstairs but they said it was closed this visit. You are able to make reservations which it seems like that happens often! The parking lot was full!!! The food was amazing, I had their special crab soup. It was hot and tasty!! The Chicken meals were out of this world, with many options of sides to choose from. This is a hidden gem! You do not even know what you are going to get when you pull into the rough parking lot until you walk through the doors. The building is unassuming and partnered with a dr office. But when you do, you will be surprised! Very nice interior and friendly staff. There is an upper level but I did not go up. I had the caesar salad and ribeye, my friend the pork chop. Salad was fresh and dressing tangy. Ribeye was flavorful and cooked to my liking. It came with mashed and green beans. Loved it. My friend enjoyed his porkchop as well. Drinks were good, although they were out of some things, probably due to a busy weekend! On the weekends, I suggest reservations as I was told it gets crowded. Food poisoning from mediocre food! Not only was there nothing special about our meals, my husband and I both got sick a few hours later. I had the salmon, which came with a grilled peach. I wanted the oyster Rockefeller and they told me they serve the last person the ingredients for the Rockefeller oysters. It is 3:14 PM so how do you run out of something like that.? I was not given any other options. I was just told I apologize and someone is going to the store to go pick up the ingredients. The restaurant wine bar is in a chiropractics office building so it's not much to look at upon pulling into n parking lot. But enter and the décor is simple but nice. It read bar and as a neighborhood feel. Labas has an upstairs bar area and the patio is lovely. Nicely laid out with a very relaxed feel. There are even grapes growing on the foliage. Only thing missing is music. The service was rather slow but our server made sure we didn't have to wait long. We ordered cocktails and food, which she managed to serve all at the same time so we could all eat together. While everyone agreed the burger looked delicious, it was sent back for an additional cook. The Reggie didn't take long and it was returned perfect. The lobster roll was a hit! Prepared to perfection and it came with chips...literally a bag of chips. The broccoli cheese soup was lacking broccoli, it didn't contain any chunks, just bits...more like flakes of broccoli. But it was flavorful. The bruschetta was delicious, nice, crisp apple strips, soft goat cheese and bacon jam, that was just a little sweet with a hint of smoke y bacon flavor. The cocktails were actually very good, so kudos to bartender. Local residents love it; definitely an upscale neighborhood feel without being snooty. We came here for a little girls night out and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was beautiful, there was light music playing, but we could still talk and hear eachother. The wine flights were delicious, as was the house Malbec. Our server was very nice and made sure to accommodate my gluten free needs. I ordered the Caprese Chicken with Smashed Potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly. The other ladies ordered the Summer Salad and loved it. The portions are perfect. I do believe it is a little overpriced and there seemed to be only one server for the whole restaurant. I felt bad for her because not only did she have the entire downstairs to wait on, but a party upstairs as well. That's just too much for one person, but she got it done! Our cocktails were okay, the ratios were a bit off. The soup was good but too salty and the panini needed more cheese, meat and sauce. It would've been nice if the owner had come over to greet us or the staff when he came in to give it a more personal feel. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the overall look of the place. I had high hopes for dinner at Labas, but sadly, it was disappointing. We started with smoked salmon bruschetta. This is one slice of hearty artisanal bread, toasted, slathered with pesto, topped with a generous portion of smoked salmon, garnished with red onions and capers. The flavors of pesto and smoked salmon do not go well together. My husband had the spicy shrimp over polenta. They used jarred pepperoncini, which was sour, not spicy. There were 5 plump, but slightly overcooked shrimp swimming in a sea of diced tomatoes. I had the chicken breast, stuffed with fresh mozzarella, asparagus and tomato with a side of smashed red potatoes. It would have been ok if the chicken was not overcooked and tough. The smashed potatoes also had an odd taste, like it was prepared with veggie broth and basil oil. I will not give up on Labas, as it has a lovely atmosphere and fantastic tiramisu. The food here was so delicious. I got the buffalo chicken wrap for lunch & my friend and I split the bruschetta appetizer. I let her try a bite of my wrap and she loved it so much, she ordered one to go for herself. She got a different dish but decided she also loved the wrap. I also tried the cheesecake with berry topping and that was also very good. The waitress was kind and professional and catered to our needs when wanting substitutes or special requests with our food. The prices are fair and it was quiet with talking from a few other parties. I read online before coming here that they automatically add a 20% tip to parties of 6+. Being I was there with one other person, I was not expecting the tip to automatically be added on to the bill. I of course would have tipped the waitress but adding gratuity to a party of 2 was unexpected, unless I missed something on the website or in the restaurant. Sadly, even though I strongly support local business, I cannot count this as a business that deserves any accolades. Met a friend who is also in the service industry. We understand ins-and-outs of being horridly busy or inundated with customers who all arrive simultaneously. When I arrived there were four people at the bar and even a tip of the hat to my my presence did not happen. Welcome always works. My friend had ordered a wine flight. After ten minutes I had to go to the largely vacant bar to place an order. Got that ten minutes later. I could have read War and Peace waiting. Not cool. Wanted food: ordered what ended up to be greasy street tacos. In the interim we got some chips and salsa. One would assume a napkin might be an automatic YES! Second time up to the bar. Three is a charm: tacos delivered with less than a third of a can of cat food on top (see photo). Damn things were smaller than the microwaved rice made by my mother twenty years ago. I am so mad at myself for being polite. Should have sent the stuff back. Perhaps an emergency room bill will suffice. Eager to leave I still had to go to bar to hesitantly pay the bill. It was delivered like a Walmart check. No nay never, no nay never no more (we Irish understand these lyrics). Support deserving local business. Not this embarrassment. read more

Tried this place twice and there is nothing to return for. It was an awkwardly quiet atmosphere both times and the staff is not trained properly on service skills or food and beverage items. Staff is friendly, but slow. I ate dinner on first visit in September and my cream based pasta was extremely oily leaving me feeling heavy and gross. My starter salad also had slimy pieces of lettuce. My second visit in October, I just stopped in for a drink. The bartender was running around frantically between bar guests and patio. There was another woman there, but I guess she was on break because she was not helping and letting the bar tender sink. I sat for 10 minutes before having a drink order taken. When I ordered an espresso martini the bartender had no clue where the ingredients were so it took about another 10 minutes before I had a drink. The martini was one of the worse ones I've tasted. Espresso flavor was off and I didn't like how they used cool whip shaken as the cream. It's usually a liquor like Kahlua. My martini was bitter. Bartender obliged my request to make it sweeter but even the simple syrup couldn't mask the poor flavor of the espresso. Will not be returning or recommending. Service was very mediocre. The bartender/server Renee had six or seven tables plus the bar, running food, and making drinks. We were celebrating a special occasion and spent around $250. She made some really great drinks but she barely took our order for oysters, surf and turf, scallop entree, and drinks. We sat for a while. She was bragging about how she told the owner not to come in because she could handle it to a table near us. When we had our soups she pulled mine out of my way before I was even finished. We were rotating plates for the scallops and filet and lobster and she only brought one drink and forgot one of the other drinks. She ended up coming around for the end and we ordered one more round and she threw the check at me instead of passing it to my husband. We noticed there was no itemized receipt and so we couldn't determine if she put the sangria we didn't receive on the tab so I asked her about it along with the gratuity tab which is unusual because that's normally something that is added to seven plus people. She became really hostile... I told her I understood if that was the way they choose to add gratuity. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing time due to the service. The soups were great, the drinks we received were great. The filet was tender but under seasoned, Renee ran away before we could ask for an extra steak knife but if she knew or cared she would have given us an extra steak knife or checked in at all. She didn't do it once...honestly pretty disappointing to spend a fair amount of money and have someone not care what so ever. Thanks but we will just go to the city or Long Branch, Solitt Tap,Etc. He ordered something simple cheeseburger and fries whereas I wanted to explore. I wanted a chicken dish so I ordered the Chicken caprese. It looked delicious. However, one bite, two bites it was clear I didn't like it. The chicken was very dry. Therefore, I ended up eating what my boyfriend had. Otherwise, great service, kind server. We had to ask at 730 where our food was, then just asked for the bill as it's now an hour and a half after we got there (not to mention a table of 8 ppl who arrived after us were getting fully served all night). I'm torn on this place. I really think it can be great. My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday for lunch. It was really empty. There was someone behind the bar and that was all. The server/hostess/bartender was a really nice guy. One of my problems was he brought us a pitcher of water that had some sort of dirty disgusting thing in it. Even he was grossed out when we brought it to his attention. Another sanitary issue, we ordered drinks and I notice while he was making them he walked away from the bar to a cabinet that is near the back door/patio area. The bottom of the cabinet doors are blocked by a carpet. He without gloves hands picks the corner of the carpet up and moves it. He then returns to making the drinks - he did not wash his hands, he did not put gloves on. That grossed me out. Mind you, he is handling garnishes and squeezing lemons and likes into our drinks. On to the food, my boyfriend had fish chowder which he loved. He has a wheat allergy so it was the first time in a long time he was able to have a chowder. Also, he had a salad. It was pretty sizable and he had no complaints. I had a burger, it was so incredibly salty and not cooked to the correct temperature. The polenta fries were good though I wished they put the sauce on the side. The dessert was okay. But my entire meal I was just so grossed out that this man handling trash, carpets and whatever else had not washed his hands. The food was amazing! We started with the southwest crab cakes which were delicious, made with real crab. We chose soup with our entrees, which was elote. This was unique but so flavorful and great for fall. I could have just had soup and a sandwich. Our entrees were chicken Parmesan and chicken Ella. Both entrees were flavorful and made fresh. This restaurant has beautiful ambience. This was my 1st time coming here and they were under staffed, luckily we were not in a hurry. The waitress was very pleasant! The food was a complete disappointment. I had the salmon salad and it was cold smoked salmon out of a packet on a bed of spring mix saturated in balsamic dressing. My husband had the sliders. They were so dry. There was nothing on the bread. It was just a dry white bun. The food selection was very small. We would go back for drinks again.
