I went in for a buff manicure. The woman that assisted me was not experienced in filing nails. She used a course file and just zipped it back and forth without even looking to see if her work was resulting in even surfaces. I left with uneven nails and a few snags on the side. She used a metal instrument to pick at some old nail polish, instead of removing it with remover until I pointed this out. I paid $23. I did not ask for a hand massage and really didn't want one. I did not enjoy it at all. I wish she had spent that time on my nails. Other services might be fine from the other workers. I don't know, I am only reporting on my manicure. Also, I don't think a shop like that should have furniture with cloth upholstery. How often is it cleaned? I won't be back. read more

I went in for my appointment to remove my gel x nails. They accommodated me when I asked if they could remove my gel pedi too, which was nice. However, I had a bad experience with the lady who removed my nails (think her name was Nancy?). 1. My nails were shaved too thin that they hurt even without pressure. As she was removing the gel, I retracted my hand several times because they hurt, but not once did she say sorry. Instead, she said that I was too sensitive. I don't believe that my nails are sensitive because they have never hurt from my many, many previous experiences removing and getting gel nails done. 2. She asked if I wanted them cut short so I said yes, but I didn't mean for them to be THAT short, encroaching on to my nail bed. Not only do my nails hurt from being too thin, but also too short. 3. I had discussed with the front desk person that I will decide if I want my nails shaped (extra charge) after getting the gel removed. She shaped them without asking me. I unfortunately did not realize that she was shaping them until it was too late because of the pain. 4. I asked the front desk person about the pain. He dismissed me saying that the prep was done wrong (I don't think it was done wrong, as I have worked with the tech before and nothing ever went wrong from application to removal) without acknowledging that the nail tech lady could have gone too far. Overall, I am very disappointed with my experience not only for the quality of service, but also the lack of concern for customer complaints. read more

I have been going to lacquered up for a few years. What I love about this place is its simplicity, no tvs blaring, no annoying music, no pushy techs, no waiting as they only do appointments. There is no bad smell from acrylic nails or fumes. My eyes are sensitive to that. I like the south and east facing windows on two sides which make it very airy and open feeling. I try to take my own nail polish as they don't have a ton of choices. They are clean and courteous. I also like the clientele. Many regulars from around Claremont. I do a lot of research when it comes to getting pedicures due to a past history of getting very painful ingrowns. After a lot of Yelp stalking I found this place and decided to give it a try. I called ahead in case they might be busy and they didn't answer. However, probably a minute later they called me back and left me a voicemail saying they were sorry they missed me! I called back and they did have time for a basic pedi. Great! This salon is very clean which is great! They don't have the massage chairs or stations like most nail places, which I don't mind because I'm always concerned about infection. Instead, you sit in large sofas and they use small plastic bins and fill them with water. The bins aren't lined with a plastic, but it still feels more sanitary than the massage chairs. However, that is why I can't give a full star review. Nancy, my nail tech, was super nice and gives a great foot massage. She was very detail oriented and nice. I have been to Lacquered Up unfortunately only a limited number of times. The first time was 5 years ago, and the latest time was about 4 weeks ago. While my experience is limited, I can still say that I have only had positive experiences here. They keep the place clean, and the owner is attentive. I also love that they now are part of a rewards program. I believe they do not accept walk-ins, but they have been able to accommodate same-day appointments, if available, which is how I have gotten in (as difficult as it has been). I was so disappointed with my nails here. I have never had a worse nail experience and it just so happened to be the nails for my wedding. I will start with what went well. First, I was able to call and get an appointment very quickly. Second, the man at the front was very nice. That is where the good parts end. I had to wait a while for my appointment to start and it took such a long time. I wasn't able to get my toe nails done because I ran out of time. Then I told the lady doing my nails what I wanted and showed her a picture. She looked at the picture and told me she could do what I wanted. As she is finally almost done she tells me that she can't do what I wanted. It was a simple design with grey nails and a line of glitter polish by the cuticle. The worst part was by that night there were already bubbles in my nails. I was so disappointed with my wedding nails. They were clearly not done well. I had a gift certificate so I thought I'd give them a shot. Overall I loved my manicure and pedicure. I originally went in for just a pedicure (made an appointment) and asked while I was there if I could get a manicure. The owner told me they were booked but about 15 mins. later said they could accommodate me which I really appreciated. The oversized loveseats are nice as I do not like the massage chairs in most salons. I do wish they were cleaner though, with as much traffic as they seem to have the sofa chairs really needed a good steam cleaning. I got a regular mani/pedi here. They dont have regular salon chairs that have the water bowl thing built into it. Instead, they use comfy couch chairs and sit in front of you. I didnt like this set up because I had to actively hold my leg in place or else the small woman doing my pedi would have been pushed to the other side of the room. The massage was good until the pounding began, it was just awkward the way she was kind of slapping my calves around. The manicure was even more awkward. I had to hold the bowl of water against me as my hand soaked in it. The woman then told me that my arms were hairy, but sexy....idk, that's what she said. my friend and I were talking and she cut my friend off. very weird experience overall. THEN, less than 24 hours later, most of my nails had chipped a little. Two days later, I had to take off the polish because the chipping was getting so bad. read more

They don't have the back massages and gurgling spa baths in the regular places. But they also don't have 6 women talkingloudly at the same time with 2 tvs on either! Wow. Where do I begin. FANCY! But without the fancy prices! It's a little more than your average local nail salon but this is definitely not your average local nail salon. It is totally worth a few extra bucks! First off, for your pedicure they do not have your average nail salon large massage chairs with the large bin in front of you to dip your feet in. And they do this for sanitary reasons and cleanliness. If you think about it you do not know how well they scrubbed down those foot tubs after somebody has just used it before it is your turn. Blech! At Lacquered Up they use disposable liners in their buckets for you to soak your feet in. Hopefully they really are tossing these liners! LOL maybe one day after hours we'll have to go check their trash bins! hehehe I love that throughout your pedicure, the nail technician continuously asks you how you're doing and if you like something or not. "Is this okay?" So sweet and nice! It's also nice that they do not speak in a foreign language throughout your services making you constantly wondering if they are talking about you! ha ha. you know what I'm talking about. Next up, gel manicure. Hands down the BEST! They are so meticulous and careful at the art of your manicure it turns out so perfect! I am anal/OCD so for me to say something is perfect means a lot! ^_^ It's been almost 3 weeks and everything is still perfect but I'm still going to go back because I want to change the color. Came for the first time today to get a pedicure and gel nails- these people were GREAT! Not only did they show me the proper way to take off gel nails (you're not supposed to soak them in acetone) but they gave me the best gel manicure I've had and they took their time. Pedicure was good too. They have nice big chairs to sit in, no whirlpool or massage chairs but I didn't miss it not having it. Will definitely come back here again. UPDATE: My nails didn't last as long as the OPI gel nails do (usually three weeks and I had my first snag in the first week) because they weren't as strong as the OPI product BUT, they did look very natural because I asked for a natural gel and I as impressed with how nice it was. I think I'm going to try them once more and ask for an additional coat to strengthen them. read more
