If you want a mediocre restaurant to take your reservation and be somehow closed the day of your reservation, forcing your party to scramble and find an alternative after everyone's already arrived, then by all means come to Lady Byrd Cafe. Because that's exactly what happened to us. We made a reservation over the phone, even got a confirmation text, and even CALLED the day before to confirm once more. "Yep, you're all set for your party of 12" - apparently not because we showed up and the gate was locked, nobody at the restaurant, nobody answering the phone. The entire place was literally closed. So bizarre. It was a normal day, not a holiday, and we triple checked our reservation. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, maybe there was an emergency where literally all the staff had to take the day off? But when we called the next day to see what happened - ZERO accountability, no apology, no explanation of what happened- just that "we need to update the available reservation hours on yelp". Okay?? We didn't even book with yelp. We called the restaurant directly to book and confirm lol. Avoid at all costs. Also, we've been here before- the pancakes are stale and the decorations are plastic and campy. Do better. read more

On Sunday, May 3rd, we had a family brunch at Lady Byrd in Echo Park. Earlier that morning, we took a walk around Echo Park and then went there for brunch together. I had decided to come here after seeing a video about this restaurant on social media. It looked pretty nice in the video, but after actually visiting, I honestly wondered if the video had basically been an advertisement, because I was extremely disappointed with the reality. I had made a reservation in advance, but even so, we had to stand outside by the host stand for a while before we were finally seated. A Hispanic male employee showed the four of us to our table. At first, I didn't realize there was anything wrong with the location, and the table seemed fine. But later, we realized that it was directly next to the restroom, and there was a very strong bathroom smell. My mom asked if we could move because the smell was so unpleasant, but that employee told us he couldn't change our table. Interestingly, when he first walked us to the table, he had been very friendly and had talked with us for quite a while, even asking if we were Korean and saying that he also lived in Koreatown. But later, his attitude was completely different. We explained again that the bathroom smell was too strong and that my mom couldn't eat right next to a restroom, and asked if there was any way we could move. That was when Navin, a male employee who seemed to be the manager, stepped in and moved us to another table. He was our saver that day. Thanks to him, we no longer had to deal with the unpleasant smell. Then a female employee named Patty or Pitty came over to take our order. She asked what I wanted to drink, and I simply said I would have water because I don't drink sugary drinks due to my teeth. She responded, "Oh... teeth," in a way that felt like she was making fun of me, and I was really offended by her attitude. It almost felt as if not ordering a drink was somehow a problem. I avoid sugary drinks because I try to manage my blood sugar and take good care of my teeth and overall health. A few years ago, I spent a tremendous amount of money for my teeth, so ever since then, I have tried to avoid sugary drinks as much as possible. At that point, I was already frustrated by the whole table situation, even though that issue had been resolved, and I was also very unhappy with the female employee's attitude. I suggested to my mom that we should just go somewhere else for brunch. But my mom suddenly said she was so hungry, and that if we went somewhere else, we would probably have to wait again. She wanted to just eat there because she was starving. So we decided to stay, but then we had to wait quite a while again before we could finally place our order with Navin. And honestly, Navin was our superhero that day. He was extremely kind and attentive. He brought us everything we needed, and he was so nice and helpful throughout the entire meal. He had already helped us by moving us to the table we wanted, and he continued to take great care of us. We ordered the Pancakes, French Toast, Salmon Benedict, and Bacon Burrito. Of all the dishes, I remember liking the pancakes the most. What disappointed me even more was that on social media, this place was presented as a beautiful brunch spot with a lovely atmosphere and flowers everywhere. But when I actually visited, I thought both the atmosphere and the floral decorations were underwhelming and nowhere near as impressive as they looked online. The attitude of the staff in the beginning was also pretty disappointing. The only person who was genuinely kind and helpful was Navin, and he was truly the big saver of the day. I was so unhappy with this experience that I originally wanted to give this place only one star. In LA dropping daughter off at her Rave and my wife wanted to come here after seeing it one day but not able to go. So we got here and luckily found a parking spot right away because it does involve street parking and we were right in front. At first we walked around to see everything because they have an area that is specifically for brunch that is quite unique and great. (See Pics) Finally we sat down, and just ordered a couple things to share. Got the Smoked Brisket Pastrami sandwich with Truffle Fries. Also got the grilled asparagus to share as well. My wife also got a Lemon Drop Martini. The martini was very good and tasty. Wife just wanted more. The Brisket Pastrami was really good. The slaw and cheese did mask the taste of the pastrami just a tad but it was so good. The asparagus were cooked to perfection. Not too soft and not too hard. Perfect snap/crunch to them. Starting with the location and ambience, I thought this place was super cute. It has a very homey vibe and felt like I was eating in a friend's backyard patio, which I loved. I was also a big fan of the floral decor. Unfortunately, the ambiance was the main plus of the experience for me. Very disappointing experience. We placed an order and it showed as ready at 7:39 PM. We arrived around 7:50 PM, well before the listed 9:00 PM closing time, only to find that the restaurant was already closing. The person in charge was extremely rude and told us they couldn't give us our order because they "didn't have takeout boxes." If you don't have the supplies to fulfill an order, then why was our order marked as ready in the first place? We were told to contact the place we ordered through to figure out a refund, that there was nothing they could do which was not our responsibility to deal with. What made it worse was seeing multiple other customers upset because they had also arrived to dine in or expecting to pick up their food, only to find the restaurant closing about an hour early. We were all left without the food we had ordered and paid for. Things happen, but the way this was handled was incredibly unprofessional. The early closing, marking orders as ready when they couldn't be fulfilled, and the rude attitude toward customers made this a very frustrating experience. The floral plates and decor are a welcome comforting change from the typical neutral based interiors that have overtaken LA interiors. Upon arrival, there was no one greeting us nor signs showing where to wait to be seated. This neighborhood gem was a fantastic dining experience for our party of nine. I cannot given enough praise to this place. We dined for lunch on a Sunday. We had a reservation and our wait was not long. One could feel the energy and vibes all the way to the street. When we were brought to our table we passed by numerous really large parties. One in particular had over 30 patrons. Our seating was really comfortable. Rain was expected and we were lucky since there was no covering where we sat. Other parts of the restaurant were inside or covered. Our waiter was really great. Gave recommendations and was really patient and helpful. I ordered the Smoked Brisket Pastrami sandwich. It was a decent size, not huge and really well seasoned and flavorful. It had a tasty unique sauce, not overwhelming, with excellent presentation and served at the perfect temperature. I also ordered the Caesar Salad. It was huge, probably enough for three people (although I ate the entire dish and it was so good). My other guests ordered eight other dishes and everyone was really happy with their meals. This restaurant is nearly hidden but for a small sign. It is behind foliage except for the entrance. It really is a neighborhood place to dine but I'd recommend it to anyone within driving distance. All parking is on the residential streets and we were lucky to find a spot about 75 yards away. Other members of our group parked farther away. It's a friendly neighborhood with several other outdoor dining establishments although this restaurant felt like the best. I wanted to test their regular coffee & as per usual Hubby got the oat milk latte. Amazingly the food & drinks arrived promptly. The presentation was nice. My salmon Benedict was okay, nothing mind blowing but the pancakes were pretty tasty especially with the compote & cream. The coffee was decent & it was actually piping hot. Hubby said the burrito was delicious, the sauce was savory. The server barely stopped by, just in time to clear out dishes. For the price we paid for brunch & the portion, was not proportional. Even though this place is famous for the greenhouses, we actually sat closer to the bar area, and the vibe was still so charming and full of that "secret garden" feel. It's located in Echo Park and just has a really cool, welcoming atmosphere. We decided to do the $33 brunch special, which is honestly a steal for how much you get. I chose the Salmon Benedict for my main the spicy hollandaise was perfect. It also came with silver dollar lemon poppyseed pancakes and French toast with honey cream and strawberries. That blueberry jam on the pancakes was delicious! My husband went with the grass-fed beef burger, which was really fresh with the Lady Byrd aioli, and we also shared the Fettuccine Alfredo. It had chicken and asparagus in a really creamy white sauce definitely glad we added that on. To drink, we had a Chai Latte and a Macchiato, which were both so refreshing. I've had this place on my list forever and finally got a chance to come and it was so worth it. The whole restaurant is so whimsical and pretty, such a cute vibe from the moment you walk in. I was extremely lucky to squeeze into a spot right in front. The restaurant is nestled in a residential area & kind of hard to miss. The restaurant aesthetic was boho chic. It's definitely a nice spot to bring the girls. Lots of photo ops. It was quite slow on a Sunday afternoon, we technically didn't need to make a reservation, even though we had because there was no wait. I ordered the chicken panini sandwich with fries & a strawberry margarita. The margarita had soju in it, not tequila, which was different. The cafe can only sell wine & beer, no hard liquor. My friend ordered a brunch special that came with a Benedict, lemon poppy pancakes, & French toast. My food was ok, nothing fancy. I tasted the French toast and it was very soft but I think it had a filling in it, either that, or it was raw inside. My friend seemingly enjoyed her meal. I'd come back if I were in the area. Unfortunately, as a few reviews mentioned- they didn't have everything available. So we had to change our order a couple of times because the items were not available on the menu. The presentation of the food could also be better. It was far from appealing but the flavor was there so I guess I rather good and yummy food over pretty and tasteless haha. We were maybe the 3rd or 4th table there. The service was rather slow and underwhelming. The waitress was nice but they could have been a little more welcoming and the service could have been a little faster. We had the vegan burger. It was extremely delicious! And as a non-vegan I recommend it! The Vegan sausage bowl was my favorite. The flavor was exquisite and of I go back, it would be for that specific dish. We also had the kale salad. It was great but it is also something you can have elsewhere so I want that impressed by it. To drink I got to enjoy the broad-tailed which was pretty good and refreshing. We recently visited Lady Byrd Cafe and it's honestly such a cute spot the theme and overall aesthetic are really beautiful, and the staff was very friendly. We arrived right when they opened at 9am, and unfortunately, the service was extremely slow from the start. It took a while just to receive menus, then even longer to get drinks about 30 minutes in at that point. After that, there was another delay before anyone came to take our order. Once we finally ordered, the food also took quite a long time to come out, and when it did, it wasn't hot. We were seated outside, which may have been a factor, but it's still disappointing to receive cold food. By then, we had already been there for over an hour and had an event to get to, so we didn't have time to address the issues. With a bill of $87, you do expect a certain level of efficiency and quality especially since part of dining out is paying for the convenience and service. Overall, it's a lovely place with great potential, but the timing and food quality really need improvement. No one likes cold food or waiting to get staffs attention. read more

Whoever did the interior design for this place did an incredible job! It looks like something out of a Bridgerton episode. The flower draping here is gorgeous, and would be a great spot for brunch, afternoon tea, bridal shower, etc. The downside? It looks good, but foodwise, it's very mediocre. I got the vegan salad for lunch, and they were out of hummus, so they subbed extra veggies for me which was fine. The salad itself though? Definitely not worth the $20. I will say, the impossible meatballs were pretty good! They looked like falafels, so maybe the hummus could've added a little extra note. The only employee I could find was the bartender, who appeared to be doing just about everything. He was making drinks, hosting, taking orders, running food, and helping customers. To his credit, he was fantastic. Friendly, honest, hardworking, and doing his absolute best under what looked like impossible circumstances. He gets 5 stars from me. The problem wasn't him--it seemed like management. We were told they were out of multiple menu items, and it felt like the restaurant was seriously understaffed. There didn't appear to be any manager present, and the whole operation felt neglected. As for the food, it was okay. My burger was decent but nothing memorable, and the bun was a little dry. My daughter's pasta was actually pretty good--maybe a bit heavy on the cream sauce, but the noodles were cooked perfectly. We also ordered the lemon poppy pancakes. Unfortunately they weren't fluffy at all and were a little dry, though the lemon flavor and blueberries helped save them. The atmosphere is still beautiful, and I genuinely felt bad for the employee who was trying to keep the place running by himself. We made sure to leave him a good tip because he earned it. Overall, Lady Byrd still has the charming garden setting that made me fall in love with it years ago, but the service and overall operation seem to have declined significantly. I'm really confused how this place only has 3.5 stars, I was really shocked to see it, especially with me having a wonderful experience. The Staff was nice, The food was good. Sometimes people sadly just like to find reasons to complain about anything, especially some of the other reviews about Valentine's Day that I saw. I mean, what do you expect? It's Valentine's Day and of course they're going to be busy wall-to-wall with people. This place's aesthetic is really romantic and inviting, so without a doubt people want to be here especially on certain holidays. Date night, or a brunch date is a must here and the beautiful thing about it is that their dishes are reasonably priced. $100 will go a long way here and it did for us. We came at night to enjoy everything. We enjoyed a couple of margaritas and martinis and snacked on some appetizers before dinner was served. I recommend the hummus and pita for starters and the pork and cheese croquettes. But for dinner, we enjoyed their Lady Byrd cheeseburger and creamy shrimp pasta, which really had a nice kick to it. Everything was delicious. This is one of those true hidden gem LA spots and I definitely do want to come back here for brunch next time and I look forward to it. read more

Such a cute spot for brunch or a cozy romantic dinner. Service was friendly but slow- our server did not check up on us after our food and we had to call someone else for the check. While they seemed busy, it was no early Sunday brunch rush or dinner. They were also out of a lot of items when we went and we weren't told about one of them until after we ordered. Most of the seating here is outdoors, which really adds to the charm of the place. The layout and décor create a unique, open-air dining experience that feels inviting and relaxed. If the weather gets chilly, they have outdoor heaters to keep you comfortable. I came for breakfast and was impressed by the variety of options available. To drink, I had a mocha latte that was rich and flavorful. For entrées, we ordered the lemon poppy pancakes -- absolutely delicious and a must-try, especially with the jam. We also had the classic Eggs Benedict, which paired perfectly and was cooked just right. The service of the staff were welcoming and very attentive. Celebrating my daughter's Beautiful location and ambiance Loved the food and service too. Parking can be surprisingly hard IF you go during rush hour....I was lucky. I am pretty sure that this place is prettier at night. read more
