Good eats mostly Japanese & Hawai'ian & most for under $10 although the two slices of Tara no Miso Yaki/grilled cod marinated in sweet salty white Miso paste is $13 since seafood is becoming more dear due to overpopulation chasing after diminishing fish reserves. I ordered a combo meal of Ladybug fried chicken nuggets & half a spicy tuna roll. Ladybug fried chix is like fried Japanese Kara'agè: marinated in a bit of Sho-yu/soy sauce, Mirin/sweet Sakè (sah keh), touch of garlic, ginger, and a pronounced smoky, underlying heat from what may be white pepper. Lightly crispy, more pleasantly meaty & fibrous in texture. Fresh, chilled crispy iceberg lettuce, shreds of green romaine, slivers of red cabbage. Their salad dressing is sweet, viscous, vinegary, touch of ginger, almost similar to dressing for Chinese chicken salad. Elbow macaroni salad, hint of orange carrots, dressed with a heavy hand on the mayonnaise. Again an underlining smoky heat. The rice here seems cooked with too much water so it comes out soft & mushy in spots & overly pasty. Good Japanese rice is only slightly sticky with shiny individual graIns which have a slight al dente texture. The Sushi rice to make the spicy tuna roll was therefore, heavy, leaden, pasty, and to make matters worse, the roll seemed to be rolled so tightly that it mashed the already soft, pasty rice into a dense mass. Hope that the excessive water to boil the rice was a fluke since exemplary Rice is crucial in East Asian cuisIne. The young Latina lady who helped us was friendly and accommodating. When I asked her about the Ladybug fried chicken, she brought us a sample to eat to determIne if I'd like to order an entire meal. Small, comfortable, cozy dining area. Good Hawaiian food! I loved the chicken curry plate! You get a bowl of chicken curry with potatoes and carrots. It's like a stew. You get with it 2 scoops of rice, a green salad and potato-Mac salad. Food is okay. It's the old Bob's Okazuya. If we had known, probably wouldn't have gone but since we were there, decided to give it another chance. They removed the huge middle of the room storage looking thing. Was probably a salad bar at one point. People seem nice but not very attentive. The only ones there & we saw our food on the pass for 10 minutes before they brought it over. Undercooked hamburger steak, liquid sauce for the spare ribs sauce. The Mac salad was good. Nice having a green salad as well. We let the manager know about the undercooked food. Said he'd let the cook know. Won't be rushing back anytime soon. I've had this place bookmarked for awhile and I finally decided to check it out for lunch. It has a super cozy and cute interior that's reminiscent of Hawaii with a very homey vibe. I feel like they have tons of regulars who come here because of that and the staff is really friendly! We ordered the Kalbi plate , spam musubi and a half spicy tuna, half ca roll. We ordered our food and waited... and waited and finally our waitress came up to us and told us that she made a mistake, which was totally fine ( I think they forgot to put in our order) haha. They made it up by giving us a free order of spam musubi and a yummy dessert so it was worth it! Did this place change ownership over the past year or so? I come here weekly with my family or friends- often for takeout and sometimes for dine in and the quality of food has gone down immensely. Their beef stew tastes like ketchup soup, their brown rice is now always soggy, they never pack katsu sauce for to-go orders (and give teriyaki sauce instead), the Kailua pork is dry, the the vegetables they use in their saimin is 80% cabbage, and their salmon is burnt. It has been consistently this way over the past year and I'm confused on what happened to the quality of the food here. Gardena Bowl and Aunty Mailies take a little longer and the parking isn't great sometimes but at least their quality is always consistent and still tastes authentic- not this place anymore. read more

As you saw with my pictures accommodations for the vegetarian or vegan. very modern Japanese interior , typical long depth design, Giving homage to traditional walk ins and small Alley Waze in Chiba, Shibuya, etc...very quaint. I had the salmon fillets with teriyaki sauce on the side they were excellent. I also had a large bowl of Brown rice with a salad ( see below salad props) w/ two optional dressings excellent sesame/shoyu, and the Chinese chicken salad dressing TOEFL salad was amazing it is a five star tofu salad crisp fresh large pieces of med tofu chops . you could say that's an easy salad dish To put together , as Billie Ellish would say , " Duh..." I'm expevting the best tasting tofu , right type of firm cut on my tofu salad I also had a small scoop there and macaroni and potato salad excellent! Grill is a place to stop by and see you then call me and place to come and chill back corner of the plaza. Ladybug is by all means a four-star right off the top ! This is one of my go to lunch places near work. I go at LEAST once a week. I probably more likely go twice a week, and pretty sure I'm guilty of going 3 times in a week at some point. I've tried many items off their menu and they've all been great. For big times my appetite is big, or don't mind sulking at my desk full of regret from overstuffing my face, I'll grab one of their many plate options (ie Kalbi, salmon, chicken katsu) it comes with a side of rice and Mac salad. Their Mac salad is the best I've ever had. It's Hawaiian styled and is leagues better than let's say L&L or Ono. When I'm trying to eat light, and need to be food coma free & fully functional after lunch, I'll grab their salmon salad with house miso dressing. The dressing is killer! And the salmon is sauced with a teriyaki glaze. Another light option I love is a half Chinese chicken salad and half sushi roll combo. All lunch combos come with your choice of a drink or miso soup. I usually get the miso, it's savory and has a good mix of seaweed and tofu in it. Everything always tastes very fresh and the quality is excellent! read more

Comments - My family and I love coming to this restaurant. We have come here for many occasions. Today we came to eat dinner on Easter. I love ordering the Chicken Katsu and Curry. There was an equal proportion of rice:curry:chicken Katsu. The breading was crispy and warm/cooked. Clean presentation :) The portion size is perfect for me. Lol. My Mom ordered the combo of Korean Short Ribs Combination and Salmon with a side of miso soup. My Grandparents ordered the chicken teriyaki and pork chops. My Uncle ordered the sweet and sour pork. I learned that my Auntie loves the tofu salad! She says that the sauce ties the whole salad together. We were guessing that there's Dijon mustard, tamari (ponzu or some sort of soy sauce), salt, sugar, and mayonnaise in the Dressing? Anyways, My Auntie also ordered the Chicken Katsu Bowl which was presented in a very cool container. (Great presentation) Sides - The salad and Mac salad was good. I've had better experiences with Mac salad, but I liked the salad and Mac combination. Service - The waitresses were friendly. They offered my Grandparents and I more hot tea お茶 & water. :) Ambience - Clean tables, cups, plates, and floors. The restaurant is on the smaller side, and it feels like you're in a Japanese Restaurant. Customers can view the kitchen when paying for pickup at the cash register. The kitchen is clean too. Menus are clean and laminated ( with a plastic covering). Parking - The parking lot can become full with cars real quickly. There are other popular Korean restaurants in the same plaza. If parking is not in your favor, you may park on a nearby side street. The dinner rush starts later (I am guessing) 1800 to 1900. I could tell that the parking lot was getting full because a Lyft driver was looking for an open parking space when I was leaving the area. Redondo Beach Blvd. is a busy street, so I do advise you to be careful when driving to this plaza. Takeout - Yes, you may order takeout. Some of my Grandparents friends had unexpectedly come inside to pick up their takeout food. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I feel like the Mac salad could be put in a bowl or something (so I can avoid mixing salad dressing and the Mac salad). This could be prevented by eating it in a to-go box. That's it... I would rate this place with 5 stars, but I just had a minor criticism. I have more positive comments. He has Dementia, so we go this restaurant every week and my dad seems to like it there and most importantly...it's familiar to him. The food is really good and they seem to have something for everyone. Our favorites are Saiman soup, Salmon, Chicken and Poke Salad, which is my favorite. Went here with the family today, and was very impressed. The food was great and the service was even better. Karen and Kaley were on top of everything and making sure we were well taken care of. My dad is pretty picky and sometimes hard to please. He ordered Bobs omelette but he ate so much of my moms food ( Braised short rib special, delicious by the way), he didn't even touch it and took it home. I ordered a loco moco, very good imo. My wife got a chicken teriyaki combo with the butterfish and a small curry on the side. The butterfish was extremely good, one of the best I've had. The Teri chicken was a little dry but after putting some more Teri sauce on it, it was good. The curry was good too...tasted just like the Japanese curry From the box, which I'm a fan of. Lol The portions were huge as well, which is always a plus. I would like to come back to try some other items. The parking lot is huge and it was not busy for a Saturday at lunch time.
