Why has no one told me about this gem?? As soon as you enter the restaurant, it feels like your grandparents home. I mean that as a compliment, follow my train of thought now. There is so much love, so much heart that is put into the food. Additionally, the amount of food is coma sending. I finished the food and was so ready to take a nap in the warm weather. It's literally like eating grandma's food when youre a young child. The spicy tuna came out first and we were shocked at how delicious the fish was. There wasn't a lot of rice which I appreciated and that fish had a bit of a kick. Pair that with some wasabi shoyu and you're tasting some real goodness. The spam musubi was solid with the furikake. My only gripe was that it had a bit too much rice which could have been better balanced with a thicker slice of spam. Regardless, it was solid. Now the star was the chicken combo. Boy oh boy, that Ladybug Fried Chicken was amazing. The batter had so much flavor and added to the juicy chicken. Pair that with you salad and mac salad.. oh my.. youre tasting a slice of Heaven! Fair warning, there is some grinded celery in the mac salad, so if youre allergic then let them know. Otherwise, that aroma of celery added so much depth to the mac. I can't emphasize enough, there is so much love in the food and the servers take gooooood care of you. It was also amazing to see how much attention to detail the owners put in the restaurant. Really enjoyed breakfast at Ladybug Café on S. Western Ave. I had the Hawaiian French Toast, which was delicious, and others in my group had other solid breakfast choices, Bob's Omelette and Breakfast Burrito. If you come with a group, it's worth having everyone try something different so you can get a better feel for the menu. Came into Ladybug Cafe, Gardena for brunch. If you've ever wake up feeling that hunger feeling and don't want to cook on a Sunday morning, Ladybug has you covered. The service here is so good I started checking my pockets to make sure I didn't accidentally tip BEFORE the meal. These folks are friendly, fast, and have that "we actually like our jobs" energy that instantly puts you in a good mood, aside of my morning coffee. The food is solid and comforting. The kind of good that makes you nod at your plate like you're agreeing with it. You know what I am talking about. Every dish comes out looking like it knows it's about to be appreciated. Flavorful, satisfying, and zero drama, just how I like my meals and my relationships. Ambiance is casual, clean, and chill. It's the type of spot where you can roll in wearing gym shorts, eat like a champion, and still feel classy. No weird vibes, just a clean space that lets the food do the talking. I know I have been here before and shared a previous review. I just want to say I had another wonderful experience her. The staff was great in handling our larger group and the atmosphere was wonderful. It wasn't overly loud. So it made for a comfortable time with friends. Like the last time the food was tasty. Ladybug Cafe is a Hawaiian-style restaurant that has a nostalgic feel, like my grandparents' home. Some of their popular dishes include chicken katsu, fried chicken, butterfish, beef stew, and mac salad. They also offer burgers, sandwiches, and poke bowls as well as breakfast dishes. I finally came here for lunch and it wasn't too busy on a Wednesday. Hubby got the Ahi Tuna Poke Salad and it was a generous portion! The ingredients were fresh and the ginger miso dressing was delicious. I got the Chicken Katsu and Fried Chicken Combo, which came with salad, rice and mac salad. The Fried Chicken was seasoned and fried to perfection! So juicy too. The chicken katsu was a bit disappointing though. The chicken was pounded paper thin and the panko crust, although it was crispy and not too oily, separated from the chicken. The sides were pretty average. I heard they also have live music on the weekends and evenings, which is great in their spacious dining area. Love the cute drawings and messages from locals and the collection of ladybugs and lucky cats. I would come back since I work close by. Gardena is quite the hub for good Japanese and Hawaiian eats. I've been to Gardena Bowl, Cherrystones, but it's only recently that I got to checkout Ladybug Cafe! Walking in on a Saturday, the place was buzzing with patrons, so I knew this had to be up to par with many of the ono spots serving Japanese and Hawaiian cuisine in the area. My friend I chose to order two dishes. Our choices were the Ladybug Fried Chicken and Fried Rice with Char Siu. The Fried Rice comes with Miso Soup. The Miso Soup was served first. It had a light and savory broth that was comforting. It had a good umami rich miso flavor and made for a good soothing start for the meal. Up next, we got to try the Fried Rice with Char Siu. The Fried Rice had a surprising reddish color that perfectly matched the char siu. It added a nice visual cue to the sweet, smoky flavor. The Ladybug Fried Chicken was my favorite. It was freshly fried, golden and crispy. I enjoyed the juicy and tender meat and the crunchy outside. It is served with rice, green salad and potato-mac. I wish there was an option to upgrade to fried rice because this fried chicken really paired well with the fried rice. Nevetheless, I did enjoy this chicken with the potato-mac as well. The potato-mac was creamy and was so ono. Overall, Ladybug Cafe is a solid spot in Gardena for some classic Japanese and Hawaiian eats! read more

Checked out this restaurant yesterday morning with my wife. My experience was a mix of good and bad. Mostly good. Here are some pros and cons of this place. Pros: -Plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. -Very reasonable prices. -Spacious and quaint interior. Comfortable and chill atmosphere. -Friendly staff. -Fast service. -Great food (except with one minor exception noted below). The French Toast and Portuguese sausages were outstanding. Cons: -Poor attention to details. The wife got a fork with a piece of food stuck to it, which means it wasn't washed properly. We also only got one knife between the two of us. We ended up sharing the knife rather than asking for a second one. -Once the food was served to us, the server did not come around to check up on us. -Maybe it was meant to be served this way, but the scrambled eggs were overcooked. Despite some flaws, I would still recommend this place. Not going to penalize a place for mistakes that most customers probably wouldn't even notice or experience themselves. For the price point and quality of the food, this place is damn good. read more

Ladybug Cafe is a solid choice for dinner in Gardena, it sits in the old Sizzlers location. Great parking - loads and load you'll never have a problem however getting out onto Western Ave may be a tricky but doable. Last night we decided to have a nice enjoyable dinner with the family (mom, brother and sister accompanied by their significant other of course) and talk chotto (talk short time). Came here for a high school reunion lunch with 9 classmates. Parking lot was packed because of the Juneteenth holiday. Service was excellent, dining room was bustling. Ot had been years since I was last here. Conversations and catching up with high school buddies was great. The food however missed the mark. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and kalbi combination. Serving size was huge, but the flavors were off. Both meat dishes were bland and should have had unique taste profiles. One good thing is they serve beer, so that was a plus. read more

If you want to feel like you're retired and meeting with your friends to talk about old times, this is the place for you. It's family friendly. There was something nice about the retro restaurant vibe and being able to have a good cup of coffee. There's plenty of parking on the street, but they also have a big parking lot if you pull into the driveway. I see myself coming back for coffee and maybe some chicken katsu. read more

My last review for 2025. If you're looking for some delicious comfort Hawaiian food, Ladybug Cafe is the place. We made reservations for 10 peeps and was seated right away when we arrived. Service was fantastic and so friendly. As for the food it was delicious. We ordered the following: Spam Musubi- Simple and delicious. Loco Moco Bowl- For being a bowl, the portions were huge. Chicken Teriyaki and Salmon Plate- Salmon was perfectly cook and moist the chicken was little on the dry side but good. Hugh portions as well. Ahi Poke Bowl- The Ahi Poke was fresh and delicious. It is our go to place when we were out in the South Bay. The food is delicious. This time we got the teriyaki chicken plate and the ladybug fried chicken. Portion is enormous for the price that you pay. Each time that we have gone, we have ordered to go, and it is freshly made. We received the food quickly. Inside it is clean and has the ability to seat a large party. Each time we have been there we have seen seating 10+. Everybody that is eating is a local. I cannot tell you how many times I've left restaurants only to be disappointed, on the verge of giving up my quest. I have officially stopped looking and will likely not attempt to order lau lau elsewhere. If you have also had the unfortunate experience of biting into a piece of lau lau that was dry-as-the-Sahara-desert...no worry, beef curry. Sample Ladybug, you won't regret it. The butterfish was delightful and tasty! When a restaurant is full of Niseis and Sanseis (second and third generation Japanese Americans), I knew I'd enjoy this place. This is another old school JA / Hawaiian restaurant offering great food at reasonable prices. So far our family has enjoyed a number of dishes, including the Ladybug fried chicken, chicken katsu, beef teriyaki, and (especially noteworthy) the butterfish misoyaki. This time I tried the ahi tuna poke. I forced myself to finish my meal because it was so good (and poke doesn't do well as leftovers) but I admittedly overate. I don't regret it! Just about any fish dish we've had here has been wonderful. One bargain is the chicken combo plate. It's a LOT of food for a reasonable price. Like the fish dish selections all of the chicken items are really good. Also worth noting is we've done takeout for family gatherings. Let's just say we made family happy. read more

This place has been a Gardena institution and I finally went. They're located at the old Bob's/Sizzler. The food was so delicious! Anytime I see khalua pork on a menu I gotta get it! Theirs is cooked up with cabbage and grilled onions and the flavor was my plate came with a small side salad, rice, and mac salad. As an appetizer my friend and I ordered the spicy California roll. And he got the teriyaki burger and couldn't stop raving about it. When you go to LB all the servers work together as a team. One server took our order but we were checked on by all the staff. It never felt like too much checking in. If you ever went to Bob's or Sizzler the inside will feel nostalgic (I think I'm old). But isn't that the best part of hometown restaurants? Amazing food and amazing service. Small/medium mom/pop feel place but don't let that fool you, the food is amazing. I got the butterfish and it was amazing. It's sweet and savory and goes well with the rice. The chicken combos are also amazing. For $18 it is HUGE portions with enough food for 2 meals. The fried chicken is also light and airy and not greasy. Recommend to try and they also have take out option. They have a good size parking lot in the back so parking shouldn't be a problem. Came here with cousins, one of which was visiting from Hawaii. It's been years since I've been to Ladybug. It's located on Western where Sizzler used to be years ago. Walking into the restaurant is kind of like walking into a neighborhood restaurant in Hawaii, in that it's nothing fancy and looks pretty dated and laid back. The menu is pretty extensive with all the Hawaiian food favorites like Kalua pork, poke, fried chicken, katsu (chicken or pork), loco moco, saimen, etc. I decided to make my own combo plate with two items....Ladybug fried chicken and sweet & sour ribs, which comes with salad, potato mac salad and rice. For drink I ordered a large Sapporo beer to split with a cousin. As most Hawaiian places, the Ladybug gives big portions. The Ladybug fried chicken was delicious, not greasy and perfectly seasoned. I got a side of hot mustard to dip the fried chicken in the hot mustard and soy sauce. The pork ribs were equally delicious. Fall off the bone tender. Reminds me of the way my Mom would make Hawaiian style ribs. The potato mac salad was spot on, as good as mine! Everything was 'Ono' (Hawaiian talk for delicious!). I was so stuffed, I couldn't finish all the ribs, so I got the rest to take out. My cousins all loved their food, even the one from the Islands. There's plenty of off street parking in the back. The mom and pop shop has booth seating and ability to move around tables for large parties. There was long table with 8 people in the restaurant - I'd recommend making a reservation for large groups. There's small parking lot in the back of the restaurant. For the food: The combo is the best way to try different entrees. Any item with flower icon could be made into a combo - I chose Tara "butterfish" Misoyaki and Ahi Tuna Poke. The butterfish is flaky and tender.
