I'm writing this as I digest my huge plate of blacked redfish Opelousas, boudin and cup of seafood gumbo. I haven't been here for 15yrs. when I used to dine out more (kids have a way of changing your habits). I used to think they're like a Pappadeux's without the price. They haven't changed. The gumbo was filled with large chunks of meat/seafood. The fish was soft and tender. A fork full of fish, sauce with dirty rice is a bit of heaven. Boudin was good but I expected better. This long standing restaurant was the site for a group dinner a couple of weeks ago. It is plenty of parking spaces around the building. I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo costing $5.25 for a cup to start. Following that was my entree of the stuffed snapper for $16. The cup of gumbo had large pieces of chicken, sausage and veggies in it. I thought it tasted good (3.5) and had it been a bowl of it could have made for a meal by itself. The snapper fillet had shrimp, crawfish and mushrooms bathed in a wine sauce and came with dirty rice and some sautéed vegetables. This plate was good tasting too (3.5). I am giving a 4 score here because while the food didn't wow me it was definitely acceptable and the menu prices are at 2010 levels making everything very, very affordable. Exceptional side salad with fresh greens, feta cheese, sliced tomatoes, and cucumbers. Half a dozen fresh oysters on the half shelf. Received seven!! Fast service and excellent products. The snapper ponchartrain is awesome and the price is was great for the size. Rod is the owner and very friendly. Zydeco music in the background and will have a live band back on October 15 for a Halloween performance. I will definitely be here. It's free for the band. Great Cajun food. read more

After going to New Orleans and trying etouffee and gumbo straight from the source, I found it very hard to find a restaurant in Houston that is as good. This restaurant; however, comes very close. Their service and ambiance reminded me of NOLA and their food was delicious and affordable. This place has been here for years. It's been a while since I'd stopped in but it was good to see that they are still serving up delicious food for very fair prices. Atmosphere is very laid back and very casual. So you get delicious quality food in cozy lil spot. The manager is a nice man and his staff is very quick and efficient. We ordered the boudin link, red beans and rice with sausage, fried shrimp and gator platter with onion rings and we also ordered the grilled red snapper with Pontchartrain served with dirty rice and corn. This is a very laid back casual seafood spot. You wont get a pappadeux experience here but you will get great food at great prices as well as great service. Everytime I come here they never disappoint. I have only ever received carry out from here, but my order is always correct and the people are always nice. I usually get the mardi gras pasta and I will add shrimp. I have also had the grilled snapper ponchartrain and blackened snapper opelousas. One thing I can say is that the flavor and seasoning is never lacking, the food is always on point making me want more. The manager or maybe he is the owner is super nice and I am happy to patronize this business when I am in the area. The waiter was friendly and accommodating as well. As far as the food goes, everything was very fresh and hot. My favorite thing was the seafood fondue appetizer (it was comparable to Pappadeaux but for only $9) you just can't beat that! They also have different flavored daiquiris. Great food, good portions. Many items on the menu are very similar to Pappadeaux's, but at a much lower price. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant can get a little noisy on the weekends, but the food and the friendliness of the diners make up for that. The parking is not very good. We usually park across the street at the Foodarama and walk across at the light. Good food at a reasonable price, I'll take that any day! read more

Was in town for an event and it happens to be our anniversary, so after checking out Yelp, decided to give this place a try. Great decision. Delicious food, great service, and surprisingly, it wasn't busy. Not sure why people say there's no parking. Maybe when the laundromat is busy. There was plenty of parking on the side of the building and out front. Fish was cooked perfectly, shrimp was cooked perfectly, veggies cooked perfectly, and dirty rice was good as well. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years for lunch and gotten to know the staff. That ended tonight after I had worst crawfish ever! The bad part is call ahead a time was told they are large and good! I ordered 5lbs and were the size of a dime and had to order another dinner item after not eating the crawfish! They agreed they were small and said they weren't going charge me since they were small and I wasn't eating them! Never expected anything for free...but they charged me for everything and won't be going back! Not the place to eat crawfish. read more
