If we would have stayed 2 nights, something about the bathroom stench would have needed to be done. I recently visited the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa for a Massage Treatment & Brunch with my girlfriends. The massage treatment was GREAT - Melissa did an excellent job. At the end of the massage, I was in a daze and felt completely relaxed. My friends and I soaked in the hot tub after for additional relaxation. It was the perfect weekend getaway. This was my first time to Lafayette and I liked how it was such a short distance from San Francisco. This hotel had a unique & quaint decor to it - a comforting feel compared to the newer, modern looks these days. My friends and I wandered about the hotel to see the space and the hotel's courtyard looked like an ideal setting for a wedding. I am a long-time, regular lunch patron in the bar/restaurant and recently started ordering the vegetarian quiche because I was very impressed with the perfect pie crust. This led me to ask if they would consider offering a quiche Lorraine but I was told that this was stopped about 20 years ago. Had 2 multiple day stays over the last month. Service is top notch, and both of my rooms were large, comfortable and quiet. The beds were also very nice (none of my usual hotel sleep issues). The only downside for me is that the TVs were circa 1990's (time to upgrade those). As for rates, I was able to use the hotels.com price to negotiate a better than posted rate. I stayed at this hotel from November 3 check-in to November 6 check-out. Before writing this review I must disclose that I have had over 20 years in hotel executive management, so this may sound like a spotters report. I stayed here on the recommendation of a friend who spoke highly of this venue. He was correct in all regards. It met all of my needs for my visit to the Bay Area. First off I chose this site since I wanted to stay close to Oakland in a nice hotel close enough to where I was attending a conference, but also somewhat rural so I could enjoy the ambiance as well as positioning me for trips to Vallejo and Mare Island. This turned out to be perfect. From check-in I noticed the positive spirit of the employees. I encountered many employees with positive and accommodating attitudes-George the bellman, Ashley at the Front Desk, Sun the bartender and of course Arthur the valet attendant. What was refreshing is that they all addressed me by name when I encountered them, and they always seemed genuine when speaking with me. I must again note Arthur, who I saw frequently as I was in and out of the hotel during my visit. He always called me by name and asked about my stay. From my background in the hotel business, this hotel seems to be well-led, based on my experiences with the hotel staff at many levels, but most importantly I was made to feel welcome and at home by the staff for the full duration of my stay. This is what the hospitality business is all about. The valet folks do a good job of managing the cluster-mess design of drive up at the entrance which is a design issue based on the architecture of French country design, which was appropriate to horse and buggies. They also stay busy dodging speeding guests coming out of self-parking. Hopefully the hotel management can redirect traffic-this could be a safety issue for slow-moving guests on foot. The guest room on the fourth floor was clean, the linen and towels stain-free and fresh, water was hot 24 hours in the room, the HVAC worked perfectly, and the television and remote worked well. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. The only issue was that the fire place was not working. I also experienced a wonderful Sunday evening at the lounge with Sun the bartender who made me the "Worlds Best Martini". I also had dinner in the dining room with friends on Tuesday and breakfast in the dining room the day that I checked out. The male servers in the room were mature, gracious and friendly. The food was all perfect, each item a bit unique, from the salmon at dinner to the freshly-made (non-packaged) hash brown potatoes at breakfast that were a delight. My only regret is not having time or opportunity to indulge myself at the spa, but perhaps next time.... I expect to return to the Bay Area soon, and I am looking forward to staying at the Lafayette which will again be my choice for accommodations. read more

This is a nice hotel overall. The check-in and check-out process is quick and efficient. There is coffee in the lobby in the morning. The beds are comfy and hotel is very quiet, peaceful, and feels private. I had expected this hotel to be more secluded and private but is actually close to the freeway and main drag through Lafayette. I have stayed at this hotel twice. Both rooms have been on the north/east part of the building. The view from the Windows looks down on some utility type area and rooftop. The next property over is a cemetery. Neither of these bother me, but there is a strip of land between the properties that they could utilize to distract from the utility area and add some landscaping. One room I had overlooked a rooftop; however, there was a rat carcass on the roof, visible from the window. It looked like a typical tree rat which is common in California. I'm just surprised housekeeping did not notice this/report it. Bad enough to have to look out at a roof top without a rat. Had it not been for that, I would give 4 stars Other negatives were: tv cabinet doors would not stay open and were in the way, well stocked mini bar but no bottle opener or cork screw. Room service was timely and food was good. In general I felt that an older demographic frequents this hotel and restaurant/bar. I've stayed here 4 or 5 times while visiting my daughter who lives close by. The staff couldn't be nicer or more accommodating, but the courtyard rooms are noisy because of the constant weddings and business functions. A quieter option is a cemetery view instead...no joke. I would suggest staying away from a view that the front desk frames as a town view...no town, just storage containers, a dumpster, valet parking, and a couple of pick up trucks. The hotel is old and the plumbing is always problematic. Every room we've ever had here has had a plugged tub drain, which if you call down to the desk they immediately send someone to fix, or a noisy toilet. There's complimentary coffee in the morning in the lobby and newspapers. The restaurant staff is sweet. Oh, the best part is the shuttle service here. They provide a free ride to anywhere you like within a 2-3 mile radius, very convenient if you want to do a little shopping and lunch in town...they even come pick you up when you're done. This hotel is like a quirky family member who you keep complaining about but you keep coming back to visit. read more

I stayed at this hotel on business after my reservation at the Embassy Suites had gotten cancelled somehow. This was the only hotel in the area with availability -- and lucky for me! It was gorgeous inside. The courtyard outside was very open with fountains and lots of light. The hotel room was also beautiful and spotless. The bathroom was also spotless and actually had decent hotel shampoo and conditioner. I usually don't sleep very well in hotel beds, but this one was more comfortable then most. The staff members were courteous and the valet service was great. I can't comment on the spa services because I didn't get any, but if I'm ever in the Lafayette area again, I will definitely stay here. read more

Friends of ours were married here, and let me say we were not disappointed in anything! The accommodations and service were exactly what you would expect of an establishment such as this. The rooms were wonderfully appointed, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The food was delicious and well presented, and the service was fantastic in all areas (the wedding, the bar, and room service). We did not have time to experience the pool area or spa services, so we can not comment there. What my husband does not know and please do not tell him - I had planned for the Lafayette Park Hotel to be our Wedding Reception location back when I visited for the first time back in 2010! I booked back then spa treatments and fell in love with the Lafayette Park Hotel, and every time we pass it on the freeway I say to my husband there is our hotel.. the setting, location, decoration, staff, food .. everything is top notch. When I started looking into possible locations I came to the conclusion that the Lafayette Park Hotel is providing us the best quality/price ratio for what we were looking for. We got in touch with Lolita who was awesome all along the way! And I must say I really enjoyed the fact that we were basically wedding buddies and to find out that we were booking the same vendors, using similar color schemes made the whole planning even more enjoyable for me. Lolita provided great advice. Kept in touch and responded in a timely manner. She is full of energy and has a bubbly personality, which I think an asset to have when being a wedding coordinator! Thanks again Lolita for all your help! The food tasting was a divine! The only criticism I have, would be the decoration of the food on the wedding day. But obviously catering for quite a few people makes a difference. On the wedding day everyone worked hard to get decorations etc together to make it a wonderful, enjoyable day. When my husband and I returned from the church we were greeted with a glass of champagne incl raspberries. To share some feedback from our guests, they enjoyed the food, saying it was great quality 5 stars, the location was great, people enjoyed the rooms, and the service was really great! I really appreciated the fact that the service staff approached me to thank us for the great time they had to work with us. Which I can only give back! I got married to my wife here in early April 2016. This review is almost exclusively based on the wedding event. Tiana did a great of job of helping plan the event. She was awesome with getting all the details together. Because of her help we did not need to hire a wedding planner. She took all the stress out of coordinating with the vendors. You will not be disappointed with Tiana. Their staff for wedding events are excellent and very friendly. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Special thanks to George for making sure the reception went without any problems. I did run into some issues regarding timeliness with correspondence with both tiana and the accounting department. But, those issues dealt with billing and not the event itself. For some reason they would always respond to my wife right away. But as as far my inquiries i got the sense that they would brush me off. It took Ivy in accounting almost 2 weeks to resolve a simple billing issue that she could have resolved in 1 day if she would've just called me back. We are happy we choose Lafayette Park Hotel for our wedding. We highly recommend it. Oh and their in room wifi is amazing. read more

I stay here about once a year. First, the good. The staff is great, very nice, nothing is too much trouble. Hotel is a great size, you feel comfortable at pool or spa or bar. New showerheads are divine and beds are comfy. Now, the not so good. The rooms are tired. The two rooms I was in this stay both seemed awkwardly arranged. Design or thought into how rooms work seems to have vanished. The furniture is haphazard. The tv can only be viewed from the bed -- not from the desk, sofa or comfy chair. And it can't be pulled out and angled. Also the TV has no way to watch any movies or Netflix. Modern rooms, even at Best Westerns, really capture the way people use rooms. Laf Park needs to hire some design ppl to make the rooms work. read more

We were going to visit family in the Sacramento area this past winter holiday and had a Groupon to stay here for a night. It totally exceeded our expectations! From the moment we got there until we left, the staff was so friendly and helpful. We had a service-dog with us, they didn't even bat an eye when we checked in and were very accommodating to our needs. The heated outdoor pool and spa was amazing for an early-morning swim. They have a small indoor gym next to the pool and I was surprised by the number and variety of machines and stuff they had since most hotels that have small gyms only have like 1 treadmill. My wife sat by the pool at the outdoor fireplace which was nice for such a crisp day. The actual hotel is quite small but they make up for it by having a great outdoor patio you can walk around in and chic dining facilities. We traveled all over during the holiday and my wife has a bad back so sleeping in different beds can trigger spasms for her. Out of the 5 different places we stayed within our week and a half trip, the Lafayette was the only place where my wife's back didn't act up and she got one of the best sleeps of her life. While we were there, it seemed there was also a family reunion staying at the hotel, probably about 30 or so of them together. So it seems the hotel is also good for groups and such. read more

I will start with the good: the hotel is beautiful and clean. The restaurant staff was very nice. Here's the bad: 1) Our room was not cleaned. We took the do not disturb sign off the door, checked in with staff and left. Returned at 9pm to find room had not been cleaned and nothing had been replenished. 2) Checking out on Saturday morning, June 8, the man working the front desk was extremely rude to me. He had been very patient with an older lady who was complaining about her reservation before it was my turn. Then, I checked out and asked if I was being refunded the amount they took off of my debit card for "incidentals" (my room was being covered by a local institution~which had, btw, expressly told them to only charge their card). He said, "Let me check," and checked on something I had not even asked about. I told him I only wanted to know if my $200 that I had been charged would be refunded. He then said, "Don't be rude to me, " and went off with an entire line of patrons in line behind me. He slammed my room key around and spoke to me very rudely. I told him I was not being rude (and I was not) and asked him, again, to verify the reimbursement. He, at first, told me nothing had been taken from my card, but I told him that yes, indeed, it had. He responded, "Oh, that's because you paid debit" while rolling his eyes. We just left after that. I am not sure if he was frustrated from dealing with older woman who WAS, actually, being rude to him, and when he saw a younger woman next up he thought he could be disrespectful to relieve his stress. Either way, I've never felt so disrespected. My tone was even, not rude, and assertive. Perhaps, in his playbook, that is 'rude' coming from a woman. The two stars are for the room left uncleaned, for not respecting the details of payment for a client, and the unbelievably rude treatment at the front desk. read more

So this review is for the spa and spa treatment only. The hotel is located right off the freeway and when you drive up there is a let parking available which is great. The entire hotel has a very modern feel inside and a Spanish villa Decor on the outside. The spa is located on the 3rd floor which was semi hard to find. It is located outside past the swimming pool - which I found to be odd. Anyway, the lady at the desk was super nice and quickly led us to the changing rooms. The changing rooms where super small, 10 lockers, 2 sinks, 2 showers and 1 bathroom. I've been to other places where there much more space available. Anyway, the relaxation room was also small and individual massages and treatments would be taken to another part of the spa. If you are getting a couples massage (what we did), we were walked out of the building and back onto the hotel where we walked to the couples massage room? I found this totally inconvenient and odd, definitely takes away from the atmosphere of "spa time". Anyway, the actual experience was not bad but I will admit it wasn't my favorite. The lay who did my massage was all that friendly towards the end. It was worth a try but wish I didn't pay what I did for that experience. Next time I will go somewhere else for better service & faculty accommodations. They did offer free apple cider or champagne which I suppose was decent. read more

I live an hour or so away but was looking for an easy access quick girlfriend get away and stumbled on this place during my online search. What a treasure and so close by! I absolutely enjoyed every second and squeezed every drop of relaxation and tranquility until it was time to leave. I felt like I was leaving a dear friend behind and was looking forward to my next visit already. This hotel is special and unique in every way and stands out from other hotels...like the Marriott for example. Its so serene and quiet, upscale but not pretentious, mature but not stuffy. You really feel as though you've been transported to another time and era. Personally, I am a world traveler and have been overseas several times and stayed in all kinds of places. This hotel stands out to me! The amenities are remarkable. Beautiful pool/spa/sauna area. Danielle who did my massage deserves an honorary doctorate degree in massage therapy. Ahhhhhhhh. I have to say, Aurea is a goddess. She gives the most incredible facials, pouring the utmost much work and love into each and every one she gives. She knows her stuff, she loves what she does, and it truly shows. I cannot recommend her enough--her facials are not to be missed. The products are amazing--I have extremely sensitive skin and never react to the products negatively, which is rare. All of the products are both natural and extremely effective, and I always leave glowing. Aurea always knows just what to use, and she is a talented masseuse to boot--she always goes above and beyond, massaging not only your face, but also arms and legs. If I could live here I would! The staff are friendly, accommodating, and cheerful. The layout is easy to navigate, the pool is big enough for happy child splashers and relaxing adults... and the calming spa music is a great bonus. The spa and fitness room are sufficient. The room (double beds) is lovely, clean, maintained, and huge! The mini bar is a tad expensive ($25 for a medium-sized bottle of wine, yikes!), and the shower head is oddly positioned (showering the edge of the tub, with no way to lower), and there was a gray hair in one bed, but everything else is wonderful! I love the close, but not too close, proximity to downtown and the Lafayette reservoir; I love the brunch; I love that it's not super loud; and I love this comfy robe they provide for free (and for purchase if you want to take it hime). I'm quite picky about my hotels because I don't want bedbugs and I don't like germs. This hotel definitely meets my standards of cleanliness (aside from the gray hair strand in one bed), as well as my standards of comfort and accommodation. read more

Mother's Day at Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa was just Meh. I booked a spa package for mother's day that included valet parking, massage, lunch, and a facial. I'll start with the good. The facility was clean, the spa services were good, and the staff were friendly and professional. The bad was the service. We arrived early but no one showed us the facilities. I had to go and ask (after waiting 20 minutes) if we could use the sauna and whirlpool tub. No one came and got us for our massages, I once again had to check in with the front desk and ask what time it was and when would our massages start. I noticed other guests being asked for their lunch orders but we we're not asked and once our massages were over, I then had to initiate the order of our lunch. And the lunch order was wrong. Once lunch was over, no one bothered to come get us for our facials. Had I not been the one to initiate the conversations with the staff our day could have been a complete mess. A spa day is about relaxation and being catered to, I found it hard to relax when I had to stay on top of our schedule and lunch. I was not catered to at any point in time. I walked away feeling I overpaid and wondering if the lack of service had anything to do with my skin color. My mother and I are Latina's and we were the only Latina's there. Fist time at the hotel, and the room was amazing and had a great sleep on their Serta Perfect Sleeper bed. Rooms are spacious. It would of been a 5 star review, but had dinner at the bar & Grill and my pork chop was terrible. The waitress was rude and didn't bring us any bread or a glass of water. Didn't offer us a dessert menu, but did offer it to the table next to us. The old fashioned drink I ordered was terrible, cause it had no flavor to it. Couldn't even drink it. I used this hotel for my wedding venue and it was absolutely beautiful. It was everything I wanted and more. As far as the wedding coordinator and all the staff who helped out during the reception, it was fantastic. My only complaint goes to the reservations department. When I first reserved rooms for my bridal party, my name on the confirmation emails was incorrect. A completely different first name. After I got that issue fixed, there was again another completely random name already assigned to one of the rooms. I was told the problem was fixed but when the big day came, the wrong name was still on the room. Actually many of my guests had trouble checking in. The whole process was one giant head ache and it should not have happened. I hope the reservation department can learn from this and save someone else the stress on the future. We have been staying here for the past 15 years. The entire service staff are truly fantastic! Myrna at the reception desk is a jewel! You are always warmly welcomed. Your smallest wish is responded to with alacrity and a smile. The rooms are always perfectly ready for a good night's sleep with great beds and linens. Noise from other guests are never bothersome. So, light sleepers can count on a full night's rest. The total ambience is superb. The hotel is elegant and still warm and friendly. Maintenance is almost always plu-perfect. The latest remodel is making great things even better. Nick, the General Manager, is a real talented and able professional. We remain surprised and grateful to find that he has chosen to remain for so long. Jerry at the warm and friendly bar is a friendly fixture with an encyclopedic knowledge of the local area, events, plays, etc. The food and service in both the bar and the restaurant are outstanding. The massage facility, pool and work out club are terrific. My wife and I enjoy our frequent stays and see the Park as a second home away from home. We would rate the Park as ten stars if possible. Place is very sexy. Only went here for a late night bite & drink, (10:30 pm) which is late for this area.. Very nice interior. Classy bar with good service. Place was clean as a whistle. Nice little fireplace to have your scotch next too etc. Never saw the grounds but could only image they're top notch as well. My bill was alittle pricey, but your in a nice hotel so no stress in that. Only gripe was a huge drunk wedding party came crashing in who obviously we're guests at the hotel. My staycation was made complete on this random Tuesday in June. I've been to the spa before but today I had THE BEST massage, from a wonderful lady - Eva. Seriously amazing. Book her. I also managed a quick workout before my massage thanks to the free usage of their workout room. It's basic for sure but you can get a decent workout in. While service was great, and our lunch delicious, my only complaint was the way GF items were treated on the menu. I ordered salmon, which was noted that it could be made gluten free (I'm assuming they used soy sauce). I asked for it as such. However I was then asked if it was a preference or an allergy. Does it even matter? I guess so, but regardless, I want mine GF. I ended up not feeling well after my much so who knows if my preference was accommodated for. I suggest making those (*) dishes solely GF from them get go. It's better for everyone. read more

My husband and I escaped for an overnight staycation sans kiddos and we chose the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa. From the moment we stepped into our gorgeous, spacious suite we shifted into relaxation mode. We enjoyed a cheese plate as a quick afternoon snack, lit a fire in the fireplace and relaxed before dinner reservations at the hotel restaurant. We had an amazing meal - he had the salmon and I had the scallops and both were divine. (Scallops can be tough to get right, but the chef seared them to perfection.)
