I remembered seeing a picture of the rock with a hole in it and since I was going to be in this part of the island, I thought I'd check it out. I wasnt expecting much - just a little viewpoint where I could see the rock with a hole in it. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Laie Point. Yes, you can see that, but there's also interesting rock formations and plants nearby. Finally, you also get a great view of much of the Windward side coast, at least as far as Kualoa. We were only here for maybe 10 minutes, but if you find yourself near the Polynesian Cultural Center, come here for a quick stop either before or after - you'll be glad you did. read more

Nice quick photo stop on the way to the North Shore. You have to drive through some neighborhoods to get here and there's a small parking lot (5-10 spaces) right before the trail. There's alot of rocks to walk on so be careful. It's such a beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy the turquoise waters and take some awesome pictures. Don't expect to swim or tan here. In a short drive, you can be up at this lookout and spend some time relaxing, watching the waves. It was very peaceful and not overly crowded as we took a look around. The lookout spot it nestled at the edge of a neighborhood. I would love to go back and just sit for a while. Beautiful! read more

Not reading the profile earlier, I read some tidbits about this place, notably one that mentioned that Hollywood classic "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"... jk. This was the location of the memorable dare jump by Mila Kunis and Jason Segel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_QIJuGzdL4). No, I don't go out for movies much. So, yes it is worth a stop if you are up in these parts. A couple local young souls braved the sun in hopes of securing dinner with their long poles out. As of 12 pm, no luck. The interesting stone formations, scenic coastal views, and just the whole package of the water, land, and rocks with the weather will impress you. I didn't read the story behind this point until returning home, but the mythical story adds even more allure to this spot. Need to look for those other three islands next time here. If you are in North Shore and want to see all that you can see, this is certainly worth the stop. There is no designated parking lot, so just follow the lead of others who have made their way here. Such a great view of natural volcano rocks. Parking lot is pretty small but the place is great for a quick stop for pictures with the family, significant others, and more! Loved the amazing ocean view during golden hour. Contrasted with the houses on the road there, the mountains in the back, and the edge of Laie - I couldn't have enjoyed the drive more. We were recommended this place by our Gypsy guide driving tour of Oahu. Check it out if you rented a car and don't know what to do. read more

Hi kids, If you ever feel like standing on death's precipice and beating your chest like gorilla, Laie Point is the place to do it. In case it sounds familiar, yes, this is the Forgetting Sarah Marshall location where Rachel jumps (and Peter falls) off that vine-y cliff! Here's everything you need to know if you're planning on taking the 30-40 ft plunge! 1. It is very very recommended that you do this only if you see other people doing it too. It's definitely safer for someone with experience to guide you through the process. Also, the currents can be dangerous and you won't know how strong it is until it's too late. Typically, it's safest during the summer since that's when the ocean dies down but when I went early February, it wasn't too bad. Keep alert for changes in weather because it can cause the ocean to change very suddenly. If it starts getting windy, don't jump. 2. Where to jump: To the right of the point, closer to the houses. See that large rock? The one Rachel and Peter jumped off of in Forgetting Sarah Marshall? The actual jump spot is to the left of the rock. #300 Absolutely breathtaking! Funny thing is I actually came to find Laie Point by watching 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' for the umpteenth time. (You know, the scene where Mila Kunis aka Rachel jumped off a cliff and into the deep ocean blue? Yes, that one - YIKES!) I immediately found myself looking up this scenic spot on Yelp. Low and behold the amazing reviews everyone has written about this serene point. Seriously folks, immediate jaw dropping views. One cannot imagine that this even exists. The cliff formations just a few kilometers away you'll notice where (it seems as though) brave souls have swam across the fierce waves to build cairns. On our way out we noticed a group of local cliff divers. You ask "Cliff Divers?" The answer to that my friends is "Heck yes!" Hubby and I rooted them on. In hopes that I'd catch one of them in mid- jump for my handy dandy camera. I heard the hubby's light bulb go off. "Jump!!!!!" "C'mon, we're on vacation!" Having bookmarked Laie Point after Ann S.'s (http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=HbyHhB6WOSQjU-JYwED9Ww) review, it was on my go-to list for my recent trip to Oahu. With our GPS, we went through a local residential neighborhood and then down a dead-end street that stopped at Laie Point. We parked our car and headed out to the Point. As you walked out, you can will be in awe of the natural untouched beauty of the area. Calm crystal blue waters on one side and water crashing against the rocks of the point at one section. Offshore there is a large rock formation that has a hole right in the middle. Pretty unusual and cool looking. As you walk out on certain sections of the Point, the rock are jagged, so having shoes might be good. Many think of Honolulu is just Waikiki. You must take drive out to Laie Point and see the natural beauty that's here and you'll get a different perspective. read more

If you're on way around the island or PCC, you need to make a quick stop here! It will take 5 minutes of your time & it's absolutely gorgeous! And it doesn't hurt to know that it's where "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" was filmed. We stopped here before our trip to PCC & the best part were the HUGE waves that hit the Rock (10-15 foot waves) & even went over it! It was stunning. There were people closer to the edge fishing. It's a hidden gem in Laie, but it's pretty easy to locate and drive to. You go to the Laie Shopping Center on Kamehameha Highway and turn into the residential area at the traffic light and follow it towards the coast. This is a very rocky area, so please do be careful when walking and don't slip or fall into the ocean. On some days, waves can be high and extremely dangerous. I've read about tragic and unfortunate incidents that have occurred in the past. But overall, this is a very breathtaking experience and it's not very crowded at all. read more

This is the cliff Jason Segel and Mila Kunis jump off from in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". Beautiful spot. Not far away from Turtle Bay. The ocean looks so clear and smooth. Good amount of people come up here to jump from the cliffs. Looks like there is different areas to jump from. I suggest jumping away from the cliff versus just dropping in. There are rocks at the bottom and if you don't go in right you can get hurt. Jump when the wave comes by so you have a bit more depth when you go in. Also maybe wear shoes when jumping in. There is a path to climb back up, but the rocks are kinda sharp and shoes may help with not getting any nicks or cuts. Other than that it's a lot of fun to do. Kind of scary at first, but after the first jump it's easier. If you have a Go Pro definitely bring it. read more

What I found interesting was actually on the opposite end of the point. Across the street near the last house is a cliff that locals and tourists like to jump off. My friends and I saw a couple boys jumping while we were there. The cliff is about 30-40 feet high. This cliff was my favorite part of the point because apparently it's where the cliff jumping scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was filmed. No big. read more

"Lets go see the Lizard I say!" This is definitely one of our to go spots to take visitors to. It is absolutely beautiful, serene, like a picture out of Travel and Leisure. It is tucked away at the end of a residential road in Laie across from the Foodland shopping center. There is parking, although it is not a secret place anymore, and the buses run up there too now. Great place to walk around and enjoy the turquoise blue Ocean and marvel about the Legend of the Lizard. There is a rock with the engraved story there to read. Be careful though, it can get windy there, and the rocks do have sharp edges. There used to be a huge rock on the hole of the Lizard formation, but a big storm a few years back knocked it out. You can also watch the Fishermans and if you get lucky, see them in person catch a live Ono! We bring a packed lunch and the dogs and just sit there while the sound of the waves washes our troubles away... Definitely, the drive out there to see if you are going to the North Shore! read more

What a beautiful little unknown off the beaten path spot. I saw the waves crashing against some rocks in the distance from a different beach and told my wife that we needed to go check that place out. She was able to find it on the Google Maps app on her phone and we drove to the parking lot at the end of the small winding road. We walked out to the very edge of these incredibly jagged and sharp lava rocks and watched the beautiful waves hit against them and make beautiful splashes. There are little islands off the coast one of which has A hole that you can see through. Very beautiful little spot recommend to stop and check it out for 10 to 15 minutes read more

I would say this place is off the beaten path but it's just off of Kamehameha Hwy (83) to the east in the small town of Laie. Your not really allowed to park a car there but.... As for the views they are worth seeing with Kukuihoolua Island or Puka Island right in front of you and the bright blue waves crashing against the rocks and the sound! While I was there a few people were fishing at the farthest point and this helped give perspective of the size of the area. So take few minutes out of your trip and go there and see these breath taking views. read more

This is one of my favorite places on Oahu. The story behind it and the views are absolutely breathtaking. I could sit here all day enjoy the fanatic views. I just wish there were places to park here without getting a ticket. There is no lot so you kind of half to get lucky finding a spot on the side of the road. The point is a beautiful lookout. Parking is a little difficult because there isn't much, however you don't need to spend too long here. Snap a couple pics and call it good. Unless you want to jump off the point, but I'm too scared. The waves are beautiful to watch, especially in the winter when they are super big and loud. It's fun to sit out and watch for a little bit. If you want to walk down to bikini beach there's a staircase in between some houses next to this long painted fence. Very beautiful pit stop, but there are plenty of other gorgeous spots in Hawaii so in my opinion if you miss out on this one, you'll will survive. read more

I have lived on Oahu since I was born and I don't think I ever been here. In fact, I probably visit Laie side once a year at most. Anyways Laie Point is truly a hidden gem. The puka rock is amazing. There is a Hawaiian story about a mo`o that is written on one of the rocks as you walk out to see the view (written in a previous review by Ray P.) I think I could sit there all day and ponder life. It is super serene. I loved watching the waves smash into the rocks. The last times I visited there were people fishing which automatically made me want to take up fishing just so I can go back there. Its a little difficult to find if you are not familiar with the area. You have to go through some residential areas to get there but not too far from the main road. After watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall I had to come here to La'ie Point during my vacation in Waikiki. At first I was intimidated by the big waves but when I saw a local about to jump I asked him if he could show me the ropes. He jumped right away so I wasn't able to have my bf take a picture of me but man was it intense. Not only was it fun but it was also very dangerous.
