Meshuggah's Americano, breakfast 'bagel' (I got mine on sourdough), and thought-provoking reading to start the day.

I never tire of this place. It isn't fancy. It's not presumptuous. It's simply the neighborhood - students, older locals, and others, all talking, laughing, drinking their coffee, eating any variety of their breakfasts and more, and enjoying time together in this comfortably appointed coffee shop on Delmar. People know one another here, with the staff and owners checking in with regulars and welcoming new people as though they've always been here. I come here as often as I can - my go-to is their black coffee, each cup of which is essentially this delicious freshly steamed/brewed americano - and today I added their breakfast bagel, made by my request on sourdough. I meet here with colleagues, friends, and myself, making space to read and think and be in a place that's just good and honest and kind. I'll be back again soon.

My favorite spot on the loop. The coziest atmosphere perfect for catching up with friends or catching up on work. The matcha latte is delicious and I get it every time I go. The bagels are also good, and the spotted pig is probably my favorite. Definetly go for the everything bagel! Service is always friendly and quick.

Cute and delicious! I sometimes forget about this hidden gem of a cafe but when I do go I always enjoy my time there. Today I'm enjoying their iced lavender oat milk latte. I love the plants in the window, the window seating, the eclectic decorations, and fun menu boards. They have a plethora of options, too! The staff was helpful and quick. Excited to take a book here and read in the window sometime :)

The service is excellent and ambiance is perfect for small groups, couples and individuals. The only thing that I wasn't too fond about was not having an option to have my coffee served in a cup for in-house consumption.

Their customer service is so nice! A cute mom and pop place. I think their food is good, nothing too crazy but a nice solid place.

Great service and best bagel sandwich in the Lou! We sat outside and enjoyed people watching in UCity. Love this little breakfast nook!

We wanted a special breakfast and, by golly, we got it! Meshuggah Cafe is cute as all get out, with fabulous art for sale on the walls. Oh, and the food is great, too! I loved the vibe. There were a lot of students with laptops, which makes sense given the cafe's proximity to Washington University. The staff taking our order and delivering our food... all very nice and cool. I apologize, I don't recall what we ordered, but I can attest both of our bagels were fantastic. I'll state with confidence - no matter what you order, you will love it! And the Ube colored smoothie, not on the menu, must have been a special. I'm here to tell you it was special. I remember it and it was GOOD! If you're in the area and looking for a breakfast spot, this is it!

Cute place. They did have decaf which I always appreciate. They modified the flavoring well (1/2 the sweetness) and were quick with the delivery. The price was reasonable.

cheese, egg, and bacon on an everything bagel sandwich

The vibes in this place are so cute! First time trying this place out and got a cute little nook upstairs to eat, and definitely would consider doing homework here. The ordering was fast and efficient and the prices weren't too bad. I ordered the cheese, egg, and bacon on an everything bagel sandwich, I forgot its name. I've never been a big fan of everything bagels, but the bagels here are actually amazing as it is super toasty and the seasoning on top is not overpowering the semi-sweet carb. Wish there was more bacon in the mix, but I did really appreciate the fluffy eggs with cheese. I felt super full afterward, it could be considered a brunch item honestly, so I would say that it's pretty worth the $8. Overall, great experience and Meshuggah. I will definitely be back for more and studying.

Cute little place with tasty bites and yummy coffee! Got a toasted, everything bagel sammy, with eggs, turkey, spinach, and mozzarella. It was hot, crunchy and soft at the same time, full of flavor, the the texture was on point. Paired with an iced Thai coffee (coffee & condensed milk). We also got a Turkey Club (not pictured, sorry!) and iced tea. Our total was around $30 for 2 drinks and 2 sandwiches. The service was pretty quick, staff was friendly and helpful, the place felt cozy, and the walls were adorned with local artists paintings for sale. I will be back to try another menu item and coffee!

It was pretty busy for being close to closing time which is great, birthday parties were being celebrated, families grabbing ice cream, and folks like us not ready to end their evening. Needless to say, I was happy to visit this new-to-me location. It's an interesting complex, bathrooms literally outside and attached to Steve's Hot Dogs. It's right next to an empty/neglected field which isn't the most welcoming sight. The parking lot is convenient though vs. street parking at Locust. They have a smaller menu than the Locust location, especially much less ice cream options. I was looking for the brownie in the mug which unfortunately was not on the menu here. I got a yummy and beautiful holiday drink along with a free holiday shot (as part of their holiday pop-up). The interior dining area is super small, I wondered if they had additional seating elsewhere but didn't seem that way. We ordered food, drinks, and ice cream all of which are delicious as usual. While I would still choose to go to their flagship location on Locust, this is a great alternate location if you are near the area.

I was remarking to a member of my running group that I've probably driven past this place a million…read moretimes and never noticed it was there. I'm not sure what I imagined it being. A Kinkos? Some place where I could print off copies of my zine about protecting the environment by committing minor acts of terrorism in America's forests? Turns out, it's a place where you can listen to truly random vinyl records while eating burritos entirely too good to be available in Clayton. Nothing about the latter says this part of town except for the price, which is almost like someone's cruel idea of a joke. I'd suggest that they're the best breakfast burritos available anywhere in the area, but what do I know? I've been eating breakfast burritos since the Reagan administration, when they were invented (as far as I know), but mostly of the microwavable variety. They have the potential to be the best food possible, because they combine the two other best foods, breakfast sandwiches and Mexican food, but no one seems to put any real effort into them. They're less likely than their lunch/dinner counterpart to cause gastrointestinal distress. People suspect that the reason Chipotle gives you the runs roughly every third time you visit is because of the cilantro, which is impossible to wash, but I heard it's really the lettuce. Never get lettuce on a burrito from Chipotle. If you're getting one of those bowls, why are you even going to Chipotle? You're probably already fat, and not eating a tortilla is not going to make a difference. But I digress. Upshot is primarily a coffee shop, and I think it's generally well regarded as far as that's concerned, though I'm no expert. I drink a nice, stiff six cups or so of whatever's on sale first thing in the morning and it usually ends up being the highlight of my day. I don't need any coffee in addition to that. I might get nervous. I've had luck lately with the seasonal selections at other local coffee shops that I've visited, so I figured I'd take my chances with an iced strawberry matcha latte. It seemed like it would be nice and refreshing after getting in a few miles with the homies, and damn it if it didn't hit the spot. You could see the actual seeds in it from where they must have crushed up an actual strawberry to make it, thus justifying the price, at least as far as they're concerned. They spared no expense with the burrito either. It's filled with surprisingly large chunks of bacon and avocado. Can they afford to give you more bacon because they don't cook it to the point where it starts to shrink? I like it when it's still kinda chewy, but I'm sure many would beg to differ. That must be how bacon is served in Clayton. They don't have the lovable old James bring it out to you, but I can understand, with this being 2026. It's not the lengthiest tortilla in the world, but it's stuffed to nearly overflowing with eggs, cheese, potatoes and what have you. I'd suggest bringing a date just to see if she could wrap her lips around it, but who's got that kind of money? It would have to be someone you've already been out with a few times, who's with the program, so to speak.
