There are very few places that get me to eat there multiple times in 1 week. I have found just that place in Mestizo. Whether for breakfast lunch or dinner this restaurant is always a good idea. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and never disappointed. Some prior reviews compare Mestizo to Moes or Chipotle and while it is the same type of self-service plus restaurant the food is of no comparison. The food is always fresh and served at the perfect temperature. The family who runs Mestizo seem genuinely pleased to see all of their customers and greet everyone with a smile. Came here today because they had a great ScoutMob deal. I had always heard of this place, but I had never thought to stop in. The interior of the store isn't as uniform as Moes or Chipotle - it is a collection of colors and succulents and it is all together delightful. They have a great visual menu on the wall to help guide the selection and ordering process. The service was so great - the woman helping me (possibly one of the co-owners?) told me some of her favorites and explained the best things to try. Also, one of the people working there come by to our table to ask how everything tasted - this is always a good thing and reflects so positively on the business. I ended up ordering the nachos with the works. I had shredded chicken with black beans, queso, smoked tomato salsa, sour cream, gauc, and sauteed onions. HELLO. This stuff was good. My sister and I literally raved about the chips for five minutes - they tasted like they had been dusted with some delicious spices and they were firm and a lovely tan color - they were perfect for dipping and help up so well in the nachos. We also remarked on how fresh everything tasted. My sister had the fish tacos and she talked about their chipotle ranch sauce for the rest of the evening. This is such a better (and cheaper) alternative to the Moe's down the street. I can't understand why people are wasting their time and money going to Moe's when they have more authentic and flavorful Mexican cuisine options down the road. I wish I had a 2.5 Star option.... I have mixed reviews about Lake Burrito. My review is based on breakfast only. Going into this place I was expecting a basic breakfast, turns out this place has upgraded fresh ingredients that in turn are more expensive (in my option) than your average breakfast joint. I won't be going back for breakfast, but if I'm in the area, I might consider trying lunch. I want to be honest and fair, here are my thoughts: Pros: Locally owned, I like to support this. Not the same old chain restaurant. Owner came by at the end to ask us if we liked it. Glad he did, I learned about their fancy ingredients. Clean, nice decor. Not crowded. We were the only ones there for breakfast wonder why)? . We were told lunch gets very busy. Parking was easy Food was just ok. Hubby liked the bacon. It's very Smokey. He liked it, I didn't. We've been told it's high quality bacon from TN. I've read great Yelp reviews. I've learned ingredients are top notch Cons: If you want to pay $30 for breakfast for 2, this is your place. We feel it's way overpriced. I personally do not like establishments that (at the counter before you eat or receive any service, ask for a percentage tip!). I don't want to sound cheap, as I tip regularly. However, today I tipped $4.00 for breakfast and basically provided my own service. You order and pay at the counter first (there is no waiter service), being a first timer I didn't know this. The cash register is like an ipad, when you sign your credit card receipt the 15,20 percent option is starring you in the face. Out of all my comments, this one bugs me the most. What service am I tipping for?? I ordered myself at the counter, got my own drink, silverware, napkins, and was to clean up my dish and throw everything away. Why should I pay 15-20% tip? You should not ask for tip up front. This place is like ordering at a fast food counter, there is no service, therefore I feel I'm being forced into a high tip for no service. Urgh! Up charges - watch out for this one! I added cheese to my eggs - $1.50 for a tiny sprinkle of cheese (cheese that didn't even melt, I don't even know what kind it was). I asked about it and was told "not all cheese melts". If I knew it was fancy non-melting cheese for $1.50, I would have never ordered it. Pancakes - I ordered the good morning breakfast that came with eggs, bacon and 2 pancakes. While ordering I was asked do you want the whipped topping and Carmel sauce. I said yes let's put that on the side please. Then turns out, there's an up charge for that topping, again I didn't realize that, I had them remove it (again the cost was too high for that). Lids - there are no lids for your cups. I had to ask. Cost savings/environment concern I was told. Butter - went to the counter to ask for butter for pancakes (a reasonable request!). Was told "butter was in the pancakes already". What???? You can't give a customer butter for pancakes? So I asked for syrup and was told it was "over there". I go to the drink stand and don't see syrup bottles so again I have to ask. She says the honey bear bottles are syrup. That just seems strange to me, I thought that was honey. Again, In my mind, I'm working for my own $4.00 tip. Potatoes - paid extra for a side of potatoes and they were ice cold. Why? No chicken - they are very strict with their menu. They even explain that when ordering. It's a small menu and no deviations. They were cooking chicken (I guess getting ready for lunch), and it looked good so we asked if we could order some chicken with breakfast we were told no. Bummer. Chorizo is very spicy. Hubbie likes chorizo but mentioned this locations is very spicy. Overall, at this price level I would expect service and some flexibility on the menu. You get neither here. We were really excited to try this place and left totally bummed! read more

The place isn't bad. It's like a home cooked chipotle. I liked it a lot more when I first walked in though. The vibe is great. The staff was nice, and the food looked great. I also loved the no plastic straw initiative. However, we did run into some issues. First, they touched my taco shells with bare hands. That's unsanitary and disgusting. Second, we found a giant hair in the food. Those two incidents will unfortunately keep us away. Wish it wasn't so, but that was a huge turnoff. read more

Can we please get a branch in Atlanta?! Picture a Moe's crossed with a Chipotle except with actual flavor, fresh ingredients, and owned by locals. Love it! The portions are large, and items like fish tacos are stuffed with grilled fish and topped with a variety of flavorful and spicy salsas and slaws. There is no ambiance per se, unless you count the wooden picnic table you can eat at outside. However, when the prices are so low, and the food quality so good, you don't really care where you eat it. Orders come with chips (freshly fried, perfectly salted) and their generous salsa bar, which included an avocado based, dressing like dip that was really tasty. It's not quite worth a drive from Atlanta, but if you find yourself in North Cumming/South Dawsonville (such as near the North Georgia Premium Outlets) and looking for a quick bite to eat, this spot is worth a visit. read more

I had read some great reviews about Lake Burrito, so finally went there with my wife yesterday. Will not make the same mistake again. Neither my wife nor I liked the food nor the environment offered (outside seating area was flooded with extremely loud music). I hate to downgrade an individually owned restaurant, but do not want to mislead other potential customers. The place seemed to be run mainly by high schoolers. The food itself was subpar, as the chips and taco salad baskets were rather tasteless and possibly (chips) commercially bought. The protein contents of the fillings (chicken or beef) were room temperature, rather than kept warm. Once the vegetables were added it just became a cold, watery mess. The same food and environment can definitely be much improved. read more

Lake Burrito is by far one of my favorite restaurants ever! I was first introduced to this place by a friend who is local to the area a few years back and has resulted in me coming back here many many times. It's almost like I've become addicted to this locally owned Tex mex/southwestern style food. I come from the Dahlonega area to this restaurant almost once every week to get this amazing food. My favorite menu item is the burrito bowl. The shredded chicken and spicy ranch with all the fresh ingredients are top notch. I love introducing friends and family to this place because their consistency is great and the food is always outstanding. The staff is a bunch of sweet souls who want you to genuinely enjoy their food and make efforts to help you by preparing your items healthy and with love. The menu isn't anything extravagant, but it's definitely worth eating. Not only is their lunch/dinner food amazing, but the breakfast they have on weekends is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the avocado toast. Be sure to follow their social media pages to track specials and keep up with any changes to the work schedule or days and times they are opened. They close early some parts of the year and aren't opened on Mondays. If you are in the area or close enough to the area you have to give lake burrito a try! It has a special place in my heart. Let me start by saying I've heard great things about this place! It's a small family owed restaurant, which I love to support. I'll break this down in 3 categories: food, cleanliness and service. 1. Food- good but nothing special. I got a salad with chicken which tasted very fresh, but portion was quite small. I also got a side of cheese dip( smallest side is $5, which seemed expensive for what competitors like moe's charges) that was chunky and not very warm. I like many other places better. Chips weren't the best either. 2. Cleanliness- very dirty inside, all tables you had to wipe yourself. It's possible that it was like this because of the lunch rush, but in my personal opinion I feel that you should always have someone on the floor maintaining cleanliness. 3. Service- I won't go as far as saying anyone was rude but it wasn't friendly, happy service by any means. Along with, I asked for an extra small bowl to split queso between my 2 kids and the said no, and also charged me 25 cents for a water cup for my 3 year old. Overall, I wouldn't say not to go here, but unfortunately I think the chain competitors do it better. read more

The food wasn't bad but I could have gone to chipotle for the exact same thing. Also I called ahead and was told that most of the menu was gluten free (I have celiac disease), however when we arrived the staff told me that the chips were fried in a common fryer (so not gluten free) and they seemed annoyed when I asked them to change gloves to avoid cross contamination. We've been here several times coming home from the lake. The food quality is excellent and authentic and the service is fast.

We darted over for a quick bite of lunch last week and ordered the fish tacos for $5 each. Very good! I was startled that they used cod, but it was done well. The spicy sauce had just the right amount of kick! Having to order outside, I understand. But failing to provide restroom facilities seems a little mean to me. Every restaurant should offer a place to at least was one's hands. Minus one star. Thanks at least for providing a place to sit outside, albeit a little rustic. I love this place. It is not a chain and has fresh food. Everything is good here but I've been on a nacho kick here lately. The filled onions, that you can get in anything are especially yummy here. The menu is small, but when it's all good and you can customize you don't need a large menu to make it even more difficult to decide what to eat. They also have the usual soda fountain, but also sparkling water and Mexico coke I updated my review to 5 stars. I come here as a standing every other Saturday lunch with my husband and it's always good. My only complaint is sometimes the music is loud. read more

OMG, can I just say YES!!! Lake Burrito has been our go-to now for a minute. The fish tacos are always delicious, the chicken tinga is really awesome, and my son cannot get enough carne asada tacos in his life, so we have to come minimally once a month. The menu has just enough on it that you won't lack for choices, the food is super fresh, and my favorite is the green salsa. I always get a coke in a bottle, and there's also queso and guacamole to go with our chips, as appetizers. The one thing I haven't done is try breakfast on the weekends. It is definitely going to happen, but for now, they are a dinner favorite for my husband and son. We have yet to be disappointed. The twins who own and run the place are super-awesome, and seem to love what they're doing, and it shows in the food, and in how much fun they seem to have in their interactions with their guests. They've always been super-sweet to us, and it just makes for a great local business to keep supporting. Y'all just need to come in and try the endless yummy goodness that is Lake Burrito.
