While visiting Vermont with my bestie, she took me on a cruise of Lake Champlain. We parked, walked down to the boat and met up with family, before getting aboard. The boat itself reminded of casino cruises, minus the casino. The bar was well stocked and the pizza wasn't bad. I am glad I brought a jacket as the breeze was strong. Sadly we did not see Champ, The lake champlain cryptid. Ah well. The cruise was really nice, and the staff when interacting are polite and nice. read more

This is about as tourist trap as it gets. The Millennial Chum and I stopped in here on our way into Stowe this past weekend - I saw signs for cheese and chocolate and insisted this would be an ideal location for local swag (it wasn't; the mugs in the adjoining shop were $44. Insane.). This establishment is located in a building with several other stores, but it didn't take long for us to organically wander into this one. As mentioned in pretty much every other review, it's a lot to take in, chocolate-wise. There's a self-serve chocolate variety bin area where you can scoop out preferred flavors at $31/lb (yikes), along with tons of displays with wrapped bars and bags of individual candies. Unsurprisingly, there was a strong maple bent to a lot of the inventory. I wasn't really in the mood for chocolate at the specific moment in time (and the Millennial Chum was right - it was overpriced for sure, no matter how good the overall quality of the chocolate) and opted for the ice cream, which was nestled in the back corner of the store. There were a few people behind the long counter but I was impressed that the minute I placed myself in front of the ice cream, someone immediately popped over to assist - some vigilance points there for sure. Since I was still getting my Vermont sea legs, I went with a small cup of maple ice cream (I think $5ish). Really hit the spot. You can taste the artisanal/small batch goodness of this ice cream - just the right amount of creamy, just the right amount of density. While I was still in the middle of consuming the ice cream, I noticed a framed shout-out by the door indicating this ice cream had won a few local awards. Unsurprisingly. The Millennial Chum grabbed a few peanut butter cups, but no one was interested in emptying their wallet before we'd even gotten to our official destination of the trip. We noticed after we got into town that this is a mini chain; there was a super cute location just off the main drag in Stowe located in a ye olde home with a porch that I would have preferred to go to instead purely for ambiance purposes. It's pricy; I would be surprised if locals are a significant part of the clientele here. As an aside, I did grab a chocolate mint crunch bar from a local mini mart later in the day, which was tasty but honestly nothing that would significantly set it apart from any other quasi-bougie chocolate. I was pleasantly surprised by the ice cream though. read more

This is a chocolate lovers paradise! Upon opening the door, you must walk up a ramp to enter into a gorgeous chocolate shop. It is cozy and inviting inside with many chocolate options, such as spicy cayenne chocolate bars and truffles shaped and named after iconic Vermont scenes. As expected, there is maple syrup, as well as Lake Champlain merchandise. The items are pricey here, but wonderful atmosphere and delicious chocolate are worth it! read more

I love that this is just down the street from my house. Everyone that works here is very kind and helpful. The ice cream is amazing as the gourmet hot chocolates and of course, the chocolates themselves. I think they would make good money if they decided to also do Chinese New Year's/lunar new year chocolate specials. I have been to this store several times, and the shop is cozy and fun. In my experience, the staff were always polite and helpful. However, and I mean this in the most respectful way possible, I cannot understand the rave reviews about the chocolate itself. I've tried the bars, truffles, medallions, you name it (from the flagship store and from other stores that sell it), and every time have found the chocolate to be hard, mostly bland, neither rich nor sweet, with no melt to speak of. It can't all be stale. I was crushed when this growing conglomerate bought up a highly successful local chocolatier. They bought her recipes as well, and are evidently not using them. If I find evidence to the contrary, I will post an update. If you go to the store, have fun, but set your expectations. Maybe buy a piece or two, try it, and if you love it, then buy more. read more

Delicious chocolates, so many varieties to choose from. Chocolate bars, with milk chocolate and different levels of Dark chocolate. Peanut butter, caramel, toffee, maple and all kinds of great flavors and fillings. Specialty candies like toffee crunch! Expensive but delicious. In the back was coffee! If you try one thing, try the Vermont Maple Latte.... amazing. The employees were all very nice and did a great job with our large group. read more

Love the chocolate here, I'm a huge fan. I feel this brand has a smooth, rich flavor that I fell in love with. Whenever I see a bar I'm most likely gonna buy it. Almost all of the bad reviews seem to be complaining that there aren't enough free samples. Other reviews don't say anything about the chocolate, as if those people didn't actually buy any. WTF? I love chocolate but I went in expecting just ordinary chocolate. The chocolate here is way better. Maybe the best I've ever had. Rich, creamy, smooth. A quick stop off route 100 with lots of parking you walk into the side of the building and there's quite a bit of chocolate as you would expect, Fudge etc. you can make up your box of gourmet chocolates and there's also a coffee bar and ice cream with chocolate in it (surprise) if you're not into chocolate they do have some candy but it's a bit over priced. ....also attached to the building is a pewter store. I usually get coffee here if I'm driving by and they always have chocolate on sample, they have quite a few seasonal items as well. This is a good place to get some gifts to bring home and a bar of chocolate for the drive. I would say it's worth a stop. If you like organic chocolate they've got a ton. Love the chocolate, but the staff needs serious training. On our last visit, we waited at the register for at least five minutes before we were even acknowledged. Another customer was ignored at the register next to us. There were at least five people working (all appeared to be teenagers) and two were just standing around rather than waiting on customers. While we (and others) waited for our hot cocoa, an employee came in and made drinks for both herself and her boyfriend (all with her jacket and hat on), then walked out. In addition to the terrible service, the only public bathrooms were both backed up, and there was no baby changing table to be found. Not helpful at all. If you want LC Chocolates, you're better off visiting one of the Burlington stores, or buying from a grocery store. read more

This is the mother of all chocolate stores in a beautiful and pristine setting -- the setting of rural Vermont. Their offerings here run the gammut of chocolate offerings of various varieties. All freshly made and all delicious. I personally love their fudge. They also offer up freshly roasted Green Mountain Coffee -- both in beans and ground to enjoy at home and you can even pick up a cup of it to enjoy in the car while gorging yourself on the chocolate you just bought. read more

Expensive chocolates. It's nice because it's a small outlet of foods and stores but the only store really worth checking out in that outlet is the Cabot Cheese Annex. Tip: if you are really into chocolate, best option is to get the "Secondary favorites" chocolates right when you enter in and get one of each kind. You'll save WAY more money getting the "reject, but still totally awesome chocolates" and still sample chocolates rather than the other chocolate options they have there. read more

Expensive but totally worth it. Forget GODIVA people of New England. THIS is the chocolate place to be. The chocolate is the smoothest and creamiest I have ever tasted. They even have these "not up to par" chocolates that taste the same but are just not up their par...so they are cheaper by the pound. NICE..thanks so much. Nice looking interior, 50% off Christmas chocolate too. The bathroom setup is odd because it's outside and doesn't match the interior of the place at all. The Bathroom needed to be cleaned. I love Lake Champlain Chocolates. This store has factory 'seconds' - they taste great but have some physical imperfections, they say. And they are cheaper. The Seconds section is by the door when you come in. Be sure to check them out and pick up some of your favorites! Grab a big bag and fill it to the top... Another great thing about this store is that they always have samples out. I have only ever seen 2 different samples out at a time, but it's great to try chocolates while browsing. I have purchased the chocolate that I have sampled too! (((So keep putting samples out!!!) There are also regular priced chocolate items here that are great for gifts (for others or yourself...). The Lake Champlain Hot Chocolate is sold here too. Other things - like cards and tshirts, and another store that is adjoining (that I haven't really checked out) are here as well. They sell ice cream, milkshakes, hot chocolate, and coffee here - none of which I have tried, but at some point I will because it looks so good! Lake Champlain fudge is here. It is yummy and you can ask to sample some to help you choose which flavor you will buy! Behind the glass, there are many chocolates, chocolate clusters of nuts, and truffles which you can buy individually and make into a box. Mmmmm. This place is great. I travel for hours to come here and stock up for my chocolate stash. Sure it is pricey - money wise and calorie wise - but in my opinion, it is worth it!!! read more

I'm not sure how it is that I've never written a review for LLC before when I consider how much time I've spent in the shop since 2008. There was a period of time when I would visit this shop every single day it was open. And by "visit" I mean, go in and buy stuff. Some days it was just a piece of chocolate covered toffee. Some days it was a piece or two. Other days it was a piece of chocolate covered toffee and a few truffles. In the fall of 2008 I was probably there every day. Then I took a break and I was an off and on customer. Just this summer I had the chocolate chip ice cream with hot fudge sauce 5 days in a row (just a kiddie scoop, nothing huge, but it's soooo good). In actuality, I think the ice cream here is better than much of the chocolate. They used to have more variety of organic truffles, I think, and I liked some of them very much. Nothing is bad here except maybe the fudge. But I don't like fudge. My friends who do like it here very much. Definitely one of the best chocolate shops in Vermont. Not for super particular chocolate snobs (like little Belgian truffles that cost $10 each), but very very good. A friend worked in LLC corporate offices and he was always slammed during the holidays. After holidays you can buy boxes of much of their chocolate for discounts (stuff that didn't sell for Valentine's day, for example). read more

It's usually in the winter, so I'm usually getting the Aztec hot chocolate, which is really good. As it was unseasonably warm, I decided to get an iced espresso drink. It was the best espresso drink I've EVER had! Mind you, I worked in coffee shops for four years. And I'm a serious foodie. So I know a good espresso drink when I have one. I requested the hazelnut mocha, with almond milk, but iced. The sweet girl behind the counter let me know that they don't normally do that, but she'd try. I'm sad that I left before trying it. The dark chocolate (our favorite normally) tasted...I don't know...gross. Kind of like it was made with a lot of oil and inferior chocolate? The only thing we liked was the free bar of mint crunch we got with our home rental. That I would get but everything else we bought was underwhelming which was seriously disappointing given how much we paid even for factory seconds. Oh and to the staff...smile. It won't break your face. You're working with chocolate and ice cream, what's so wrong to be borderline rude to customers? read more
