Very Warm hospitality from their staff. We dined downstairs overlooking Lake Lure and had a very delicious lunch. Mine was the Philly cheesesteak with fries. Satisfying after a 2 mile hike at Chimney Rock. My friends really enjoyed this restaurant and its lovely location right on Lake Lure!!!

Wow the crab stuffed mushrooms were delicious. Great outdoor dining. Cute little place with beautiful outdoor seating. We had seafood which was pretty good local trout. Miranda was awesome and so very nice and informative.

Everything from the service to the food to the views were amazing ! I was wary about this place because of the reviews and rating but honestly everything was great. Staff was friendly , service was attentive even though he was rocking multiple tables sat at once- didn't miss a step. Spinach dip is spinach heavy w bigger chunks of artichoke but my bf and I loved it. Drinks were good and views were great. Boyfriend got chicken tenders and I got a steak. Both were delicious.

Overall, you go here for great views of the lake. Tucked in at the bottom of lake lure it's a great spot to take in a sunset or pull up the boat mid day for some food. The prices are a littttle expensive for the area but the portions were solid with a good mix of dishes. We got a steak (which was huge) and a duck bowl (it was okay). Walking downstairs it smelled like there used to be an indoor pool down there, very "chlorine-y". But eating on the deck and looking at the lake was very nice. I would go back and be a willing to try something different.

This is a neat spot! Perfect outside sitting area when the weather is nice for a great view. Good food and service! We will be back!

Meatloaf Sandwich straight out of the kitchen - not touched

Great atmosphere. Sits on the lake with nice views. Waitress was very nice and personable. The food not so good. Meatloaf sandwich - very little meat with liquidly gravy on 2 pieces of white bread. Carolina Grilled Cheese - pulled pork BBQ had little flavor...hardly any bbq sauce on it. A few onions. Not worth the prices paid. Very disappointing as this establishment was untouched by Helene and looked like a great spot to eat lunch. Maybe they just had a bad day.

After cruising Lake Lure on our rented pontoon boat for a few hours we were all in agreement that a visit to the LakeHouse Restaurant for a few cocktails and beers was a good plan before returning the rental to Rumbling Bald Resort. With the lake level a little lower than normal we approached the dock with care to avoid dragging the bottom and beaching this party barge - all hands on deck to secure the boat to the dock that wraps the back of this restaurant. Once we were all safety disembarked we made our way to the stairs leading to the outside deck and through the door into the bar, today it's seemed like everyone in the area had the same idea this place was lit - Isabella greeted out group of ten and the staff immediately began moving tables to accommodate our party with menus in hand. We made it clear before the staff got overly attentive with menus and tableware it was going to be drinks only although we appreciated the hospitality. I quickly ordered a Highland Gaelic Ale, this draft has quickly became a favorite of mine since arriving in the area, it pours a reddish color with a significant white head, smells slightly malty has a distinct taste of caramel with a slightly complex finish, it's a medium body brew with just enough carbonation to tingle the back of your throat with a bitter finish it's a very easy drinking red ale served ice cold it very appealing to the palette. ...okay I always ask about draft beer temperatures, this place serves cold beer in big glasses, being I was the first mate on today's three hour tour with no chance of the weather getting rough or our tiny ship getting lost I chose the 22 ounce, so refreshing even though onboard I was sipping Tito's and Lemon Lime Gatorade over crushed ice. Whether you arrive by land or lake you're sure to enjoy your time here, it seems to be the local's favorite but everyone is welcome here although you may have to arm wrestle to get a sit at the bar...

Bacon wrapped scallops with a blueberry reduction for an appetizer. Delicious.

everything about this place is lovely. we sat outside and had a beautiful view. The staff is very nice. The food is prepared with care and fresh ingredients. We loved the bacon wrapped scallops with the blueberry reduction for an appetizer. The pork chop was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this place.

Busy place right on the lake. Food was good and the place is hopping. Very busy. Everyone in my party had burgers. The plane Jane was very good and the 57. They came with a side of your choice. I had regular fries. Nice place to hang out after a day of hiking.

Ambience was amazing! At the lake, boats pulling in; customers getting off for a bite. The view was THE MILLION Dollar VIEW:: valley, lake and mountains: our server, Mina was pleasant and attentive. My partner had the CHIMNEY ROCK BURGER with a pound of Waygu beef perfectly and completely cooked and seasoned. I would suggest skipping fries. Their salads looked amazing.

The host came back and said there wouldn't be a problem as long as it was an inside table. When the waitress arrived with the water we asked her for two Bloody Marys and we went to serve ourselves from the buffet Food was delicious starting with the omelette station and the rest of the items including the prime rib. The drinks never arrived and the waitress never came back with water, she actually never came to our table, we had to ask for water to the busser same for the check. I am not sure what their system is but looks chaotic since you help yourself to the food it should be fairly easy to assign zones or tables to each server. We walked out to the veranda and came back in the building to seat in the lounge where a pianola was on auto play, really nice environment that takes you back a few decades. Margret was our server somehow I don't think this was by accident I had met her a few days earlier at the hotel bar - she has been here for years and years and some of our friends have been enjoying her amazing personality and high level service for a decade or more. Once seated she offered to put our drink orders in while we explored the feast laid out in the adjoining room, the drinks are made at the hotel bar but they have a table set up to allow you to customize your specialty drinks i.e. Bloody Mary's are amazing before any modifications. The food was simple but elegantly displayed, the quality of the product was exceptional and the preparation was very creative and professional. I started at the omelette station two burners and a limited selection of ingredients but all delicious and being I'm not a veggie guy the meats and cheese exceeded my expectations. The neighboring stations were both carving stations, beef and ham both cooked to the perfect temperature and very tender and flavorful - yes I made two trips. I tried a few of the other sides trying my best to stay away for the carbohydrates that most of the side dishes bring with them. Well as much will power and restraint that I have it all slowly eroded away each time I passed the dessert table. The chocolate fountain surround by sliced pineapple, strawberries and cubes of moist cake, lemon and chocolate pies, cheese cake, chocolate cake, cookies and omg peach cobbler - trust me you can gain a few pounds just by being close to this table. The service was spectacular and the total package price is ridiculously reasonable - I don't think you need to lower your expectations to throughly enjoy this brunch but you do need to keep things in perspective this is a small community and this nostalgic hotel / restaurant puts it all out there so enjoy...

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.
