We stayed in one of the new L cabins. Very nice and quaint. Liked sitting on the porch and listening to nature. There's a nice little trail that runs by the creek up there aswell. The bottom bed fit 2 adults just fine. Top bed is the same size. Also there is a little nook above the door which could hold small children. It was hot when we went so ceiling fan really helped. Luckily we brought a plug in fan for sleeping comfortably. We would get food at the saloon to go for dinner and made out breakfast on a hot plate we brought. I suggest a small bbq or gate plate for meals. Unfortunately the refrigerator never worked. We tried for two days. Ice chest worked fine. I recommend for a fun adventure out stay. read more

Great rustic Resort. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We attended the Pancake Breakfast that supports the local volunteer fire department. The breakfast was held in the main dance/ dining area for the lodge's larger events. There was also a silent auction. The pancake breakfast was okay, but knowing it went to a good cause made it better. The lodge was dog friendly for friendly dogs. Photos in front of the fire engines was a great touch. The lodge is old and rustic with individual cabins to rent. Don't expect high-end hotel. A lot of the negative reviews I've read seem to be from people who have never really experienced the real outdoors and real conditions created by being in a real forest. Those reviewers need to go back to their Hilton's and Hyatt's in their European SUV's. Leave the real forest to the rest of us :-) The cabins accommodate anywhere from 2-8 people and are very reasonably priced per night. There is also a lot of outdoor sights to see in the area. I'd recommend a stay at the Lakeshore Lodge to others. read more

A charming little bar across the street from the main visitors' area and parking lot on the west side of Huntington Beach. The food comes in from the restaurant next door and the bar is well-stocked. The wait staff were accommodating but disappeared on me leaving me with a salad and no silverware and I had to go out to the restaurant to get them. I got a Santa Fe chicken salad, which was decent. The chicken was a little dry with a dry rub on it, which kind of coated my mouth. Everything else was fresh. My husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich. The Kaiser roll was really good, and the chicken was cooked just right. The buffalo sauce wasn't very spicy but had a little bit of a kick to it. The fries were also really good - crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. All in all, about as good as you can hope for at this elevation. What knocked it down another star for me were the facilities - the bathrooms are really run-down, there are only two booths, and the women's toilet was blocked and the soap dispenser didn't work. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket come one, come all, and fork over what you have for a one of kind experience with nature. Mice will poke at your hair as you try to sleep while their friends run around the room. Will you have power in cabin? Probably not due to the power being shut off due to the place being a fire hazard. No worries, the Owner may give you a few days warning and suggestion to get a generator but will fail to tell you that the cabin does not have lamps. Oh well, what's a few more hundred dollars thrown drown the drain. Then after a sleepless night and having arrived in total darkness you realize the cabin was never cleaned after the last family left. What's a little covid among friend? Plus maybe the prior family will be nice and leave liquid tylenol pills near the bed for you too and articles of clothing in both rooms. So sweet! Time for breakfast. Who wants mice droppings with your eggs? With coffee? How did it get in the coffe maker? Sneaky little rascal. Now wait.....there's more!!! Just as you get finish bleaching the kitchen the Fire Dept will come by and evacuate the area due to fire! So come and bring the family to a health hazard death trap that will be no fun for the whole family! Was very excited to see the historic saloon open but unfortunately after the first opening weekend was very disappointing they turned away my friend's service dog from sitting on the outside deck area. Sad since this is a mountain community and the dog is outside, especially since China Peak Landing actually puts water bowls on their decks for the dogs. I know a lot of people feel like their dogs are their kids and disappointing they won't let service dogs outside near their deck area. I of course want them to succeed and I have property in the area, so hopefully they'll rethink this policy. I know they'll probably say a health issue but this is outside and a service dog for a disabled vet. Give me a break. read more

My friends and I stayed here after a day of snowboarding at China Peak and it was also New Year's Eve. It was overall an amazing experience. The owner was very sweet and welcoming. We stayed in an A cabin and it was absolutely perfect for me and my friends. The cabin we stayed in was very clean, tidy, and was warm for us when we got there. Based off photos on yelp from years ago, these cabins look nothing like that anymore! They are newly renovated. We hung out at the Saloon for New Year's Eve night and had a wonderful time. The new owners are very involved in this property. I could tell they have been and are determined in continuing to turn it around and it was very noticeable!! This was a 10/10 stay. I would definitely book here in the future. read more

This was our 2nd and 3rd time to visit Lakeshore's restaurant since the new owner took over. We ate in the restaurant the first night and since there was a power outage at dinner time, at our cabin, we came back the next night with friends. Both nights we had great food: tri tip which was done to perfection, chicken salad and the Huli Huli bowl. All delicious and served by a delightful waitress. The second night we ate in the saloon which has been cleaned up and is quite cozy. Love it in the winter with the toasty wood burning stove. Dinner was again very good with our ordering the hamburgers. The live music in the saloon was a bit loud for conversation but that is to be expected in a saloon. Yummy dessert of blackberry crisp was huge ( enough to share with 3-4.) Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating even though they were trying to run the bar along with waiting tables. We will be back soon and encourage anyone who remembers it "the way it was" to give it a try. We really appreciate having this venue at the lake and wish Lev and his employees much success. read more

I heard a lot of bad rumors of this place prior to taking my trailer. It is clear the new owners have turned this place around. The bathrooms are great and all remodeled. The laundry room is nice with new washer and dryers. All the new cabins in the trailer area look really nice and I spoke to a couple who stayed in one and they said they loved it. There are a lot of nice hiking trails around and the lake is in walking distance. When reading the reviews stick to the ones made in the last year when the new owner took over and started turning things around. It is nothing like it used to be. My wife and kids and I just got back from out second trip in 2 months and will definitely go again. read more

If I could rate 0 stars I would.... This is our second time here and never again. Last year we came up here and it was nice. This time it was not so great. The cabins we rented were rented out to someone else. They moved us to another one, supposedly an upgrade. The whole point of booking the original cabins was to be next to family. Not this weekend, we were far from each other. Spiders everywhere, I get we are in the mountains but there were so many spiders in our cabin, no hot water, had to shower in family's cabin. Never again, Dinkey creek will be our vacation twice a year now. The only good part is Huntington Lake is across the street. read more

So...the RV area was just ok, stayed one night, but the food at their restaurant was great! It is the best kept secret in that whole area. The chef is a 5 star in the middle of nowhere, no joke. We had the best fresh huge scallops in butter that were seared perfectly. I swear they were the best ever. Tender and almost a bit sweet they were so fresh. My mouth is watering thinking about them. They were flown in the day before. We also ordered the stuffed porkchops with the stuffing spilling out with fresh figs, pears and also walnuts with rice pilaf and homemade applesauce on the side. So delicious! Dinner comes with a salad and roll and the drinks from the full bar were good and strong. We will definitely stop in again on our way to and from Oregon again. This place barely deserves a one star. A group of us went up to the cabin to celebrate a birthday and to ski China Peak Mountain. We wanted a clean, rustic, easy and fun "glamping" style cabin where we could cook, get warm after a day on the slopes and play games....this was far from that. My boyfriend and I arrived later than the first couple only to find a cabin that had a broken double bed in the entry way of the cabin (A8), no working heater (even though maintenance came to "fix" it prior to our arrival with a call from the other couple), a whole in the ground (see picture attached) no dish soap, no dish towels, broken oven (the list goes on). It was late, so my boyfriend and I decided to just try and get some sleep and agreed we would call the front office in the morning and demand a working heater in the sub 30 degree weather. That night I got 3 hours of sleep and was literally shivering in the cabin, almost slept in the truck since our heater wasn't putting off any source of heat even though the mechanism was turning on and off multiple times throughout the night. In the morning, after discovering I was also sleeping on a broken bed, I called the front office and demanded that we move cabins and be refunded the first night stay since its inhumane to rent cabins to people with non-working heaters in the dead of winter. The woman answering the phone said "she would see what she could do and said that maintenance would come fix the heater." I told her that they already had the chance to do that and it didn't work and that we wanted to move cabins seeing as we had another night stay already paid for and nowhere else to go. They gave us another cabin (C4) which was slightly better than the one we had with 2 separate rooms, an oven that worked, fresh towels and decent bed, but found that the shower floor was rusty. However, yet again, the heater was on "full blast" radiating heat but not blowing it like a normal one does, therefore not warming the entire cabin, just the hallway. Once we had moved cabins we decided to play in the snow outside and overhead other cabins and families complaining about no hot water, dirty cabins, no heat etc. Trust me, I don't mind rustic, no tvs, no Wifi etc, that's totally fine and somewhat expected in a "cabin" like setting but the cleanliness, heating situation and utter disregard for people staying there is disgusting to me and frankly unacceptable. Both my boyfriend and I got sick because of how brutally cold it was the first night in the cabin. Pro- if there is one- is the location. The forest service, I believe, comes and plows the roads, someone came and shoveled and cleaned our deck and walkway and its less than 8 min drive to China Peak Mountain (which was the highlight of our stay). IF you dare stay here: bring your own sheets, space heater, own towels, extra blankets, coffee maker and a floor mat for the bathroom. **UPDATED** just got off the phone with Brandy at the front desk and she was really helpful and apologetic. She helps answers phones but is not the main manager or owner. read more

I had an itch to go skiing with the family. We were nearby as I had work in the area. The original plan was to go to Mammoth, but the long drive was looking even longer. So we decided to stay local. Being a last minute, impulsive vacationer and we didn't plan on going here, we were limited on hotel accommodations. I was lucky to find a cabin that could accommodate us as they usually require a two night minimum. So it's cold, starting to snow and we head over to the Lakeshore Resort. I check in at the saloon since the office was closed. Peter is a really nice guy running the bar. Helps me out and points me in the direction of the cabin. The description on their website is pretty straight forward. Rustic cabins, don't expect much. Rustic is right. The heater was set pretty high, but barely kept you warm if you pressed your body up against it. There was a draft coming from the window above the headboard of the bed. Mind you it was NEGATIVE 15 degrees this particular night. They had three or four layers of blankets on the bed, but these blankets were rustic too. Not much insulation in other words. All in all, we were close to the slopes, but conditions in the cabin were much to be desired as it was soooo uncomfortably cold. Peter was working the following morning and offered some advice on breakfast and lunch on the mountain. It's a nice place, but would be a stretch to call a resort.... read more

Had a great visit. Stayed in cabin D4 3bd 1 bth. It was a last minute trip, for a three day weekend. Cabins are old, but they do let you know that before hand. Heater is propane, and it worked wonders! Shower actually had hot water, so we were able to take nice showers! Everyone was friendly. Easy check in and easy check out. Came on a snowy weekend. We were able to sled and play in the snow! Although the cabins are outdated and needed a little work done my family had a blast. I would stay again! Side note: sometimes you never know what you will get and that's ok. Our shower was leaking and our bathroom floor stayed wet the entire weekend. We solved the problem by laying towels on the ground. It's an old cabin, what are you going to do. We were not going to let something small ruin our weekend. *things you should bring if you're staying during the winter* Heater (the heater in cabin only keeps the room the heater is in, warm), plenty of blankets, extra clothes (if you play in snow and get wet), definitely warm socks. Shampoo / soap there are some provided in a package but I would recommend bringing your own. read more

I was here for a wedding over the weekend. So I got to eat at the restaurant, it is so cute inside. The food was very good! Hit the spot just where I needed it. The grocery store, also a country/mountain feel, not bad prices for the items that you need to buy. Now the lodge. What a dream. It is like a step back in time. They decorated the room so beautifully and I recommend anyone to have a party up here. We danced the night away while a fire was burning in the fireplace. There is a secret room where our food was put for the buffet, so cool. You go in there pick up your food and sit back down. Oh our friend had a cabin, we got to check it out. They are really quaint and comfortable. Nice little patios out in the back for you to daze out at the trees. You have your own bathroom, mini fridge, coffee pot and bed. No TV! Not sure how much these cost, but good if you are older and or have babies. I feel in love with this place, but it is a 5 hour drive up here. So I don't know when I'll be back again? read more

Th Salmon BLT- melted in my mouth. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the specialty bread/bun the sandwich was in was fresh and yummy. The Mac N Cheese was on Penne instead of shells, but my 2 year old gobbled it up! My mom got the prime rib, it was cooked perfectly to her liking, which she requested medium. Forewarning: my rating is not based on the cabins. I'm pretty sure that I will go back, because I loved the cabin and the rustic feel that it had. I honestly had a lovely vacation. The reason for the rating is due to their absolute lack of communication. I went there in the dead of winter, ya know...in the peak season of China Peak ski resort which is 2 minutes down the road. I wasn't expecting any kind of 4 star resort or anything. I wanted a rustic cabin/camping experience. The problem is that I had some issues during my stay and I tried to contact maintenance while there and then reached out to management after we left, I still have yet to hear a single word. It's been 4 months. Not a single soul acknowledged any of these concerns: -Upon arriving, the roof was leaking from snow right on top of the bed. There was a huge puddle of water on the bed and so we called to try and get new sheets. No response for the rest of 2 night stay. Needless to say, we had to sleep bundled in our warm snow clothes on a wet mattress with no bedding the first night. -mouse poop throughout the entire cabin. On the fridge, on the dishes, on the countertops -you are expected to clean all of the dishes they provide and leave the cabin as is otherwise you will be charged. They provide "cleaning supplies" which consist of a 10 year old tiny sponge and a 1/4 cup of soap in a paper cup Again, I write this review to advise you to bring your own stuff. I'm all about roughing it, but I wish I would have been more prepared. Treat this place as an unfurnished box in the middle of the woods. Bring extras of everything that they claim to provide. And don't expect any kind of response, apology or help if you have an issue. Love the cabins, just wish customer service was better...especially when I paid almost $300 for a 2 night stay. read more

I really don't want to bash a small family business that's doing their best, but something needs to be done here. The cabin my husband and I were going to stay in was uninhabitable. It was clean, but as soon as we walked in, the stench of mustiness hit us like a wall. The single heater looked ready to combust at any moment. The sink and shower were stained with rust. The paint was peeling and the floor was coming up. A massive spider crawled boldly across the floor. We tried out a bed, which was hard and sagging in the middle. Not in our cabin but another family member's, they found mouse poop in the sheets. We opted not to get hantavirus, be crawled on by spiders, or gamble with the ancient heater, and left to find another place down the mountain. Now, all that said, this could be a great place. But you can't handwave away issues like what we saw by saying, "oh, they're historic cabins, so they're rustic!" No, there's rustic and then there's decrepit and unsafe. So the owners need to get some investors, get a business loan, whatever, and update the cabins! I will happily come back once they're updated, because it's a beautiful location and has a lot of potential! read more

Great little private campground with full hookups. Much more quiet than the National Forest campgrounds near the lake. Laundry facility, nicely remodeled bathrooms. Many long-term residents who work in the area seasonally (such as ourselves). New owners have hauled out a lot of trash and cleaned the place up nicely. Cabins are actively being restored. We camp at Huntington every year. I have been coming since a kid, my dad has been coming since he was in high school. We now come with several families who sprawl all over the Upper Billy campgrounds and enjoy a week long of friends, family and the lake! My girlfriends and I set out on an ambitious hike from Upper Billy Creek to get some "mom time" alone. 5 miles later we made it to the Saloon and was ready for a drink. We enjoyed delish Moscow Mule's and local beer. As always it's such a treat visiting this area, and I just love this bar. We always say if we hit the lotto, we want a place just like this! The bartender was super sweet, and hey...I love any bar that allows you to bring your dog in with you! We sat out on the porch on stumps of wood, enjoyed our cold drinks and the quietness that surrounds this small little town. Heading up the mountain for the first time we saw this quaint restaurant and decided to give them a try for lunch. Good Lord!!!!! Clean the damn cobwebs out of the windows! The place needed a good cleaning but not enough to stop us from having lunch. The music they played in the kitchen totally sucked unless you were 16. I had the guey burger, it wasn't guey and tasted pretty good but the burger pattty needed help. The fries were awesome though! My wife had the burger sliders but the 1000 dressing needed help, try adding relish that has the liquid drained, trust me, so much better! They put new ketchup bottles on the table but didn't take the plastic off. The salt shakers had very little salt in it but being dirty, got nothing when shaking it out. Bottom line, they can be a great place to eat, if they deal with the details. I did enjoy the mountain atmosphere here and I'm sure in the winter time that I would love to eat here with the large fireplace burning, so in a nutshell.......deal with the details! Greetings Fellow Yelpies! A bit late posting this, but in time for this snow season. This posting is for reporting winter ski/snowboard season 2009/2010. The Lakeshore Resort is one of the few places to stay while visiting what is now China Peak Ski, but previously Sierra Summit Ski. Please take to heart, that this is a RUSTIC resort. And how!!!!!!! We stayed two times last season. I will group the two visits to save time. This resort should be a last ditch hope when there is absolutely no other plan in place and you have got to ski or snowboard...I know...its my blood too! The scariest thing about both stays was the gas smell (as in stove, heater, water heater) that was ever present. Upon returning from the slopes one afternoon, I would not let anyone in the cabin, sent everyone to stay warm back in the car, opened the door and every window that would open, and called the staff for assistance. The staff person that came out advised the scent to be normal. I asked for another cabin but was advised there were no others available. Mind you, this was not just one cabin, but we had that gas smell two seperate visits. The cabins we stayed in had drafts at the doors and windows. As we all know, it is cold in the Sierra's in the winter. Parking in general ( for winter ) at the resort should probably be better engineered. Numerous cars were stuck in their paking stall at the cabins. This was evident as we observed the resort utility back-hoe pulling multiple cars out of the parking spot(s). We just decided to NOT park on the cabin park way and just parked on the resort road. On our second visit, our stove (four burner) had only two burners that would work and the oven would not work (so much for our pizza's we brought up from Fresno Costco.) Which brings me to another issue. BRING ALL OF YOUR FOOD/SUPPLIES WITH YOU. As we all know, purchasing food at a resort/ski area will break you as most all of us bring our lunch and eat in the pkg lot or resort dining hall. PURCHASING ANYTHING AT LAKESHORE RESORT IS MORESO WORSE!! This place is in general more expensive (soda, ice cream, chips, etc) than Mammoth. So arrive well supplied!!! Overall, Lakeshore Resort is not a good value for your dollar, in fact....way out of line. In addition, if you read the reservation guidelines, you have to pay full price when your reservation is made and they say 100% non-refundable. So what happens when you are driving up the mountain and the CHP turns you back? Or the whole area (as was the case as recently as last ski season) the whole area loses power due to heavy snow? I dont even know if that is legal with all of the intricate consumer laws we have here in California. There are some very good aspects of Lakeshore Resort. 1. Proximatey to Sierra Summit (China Peak) which of course is why they can offer a marginally acceptable service at an outrageous price. But, door to door, about 10 minutes. And thats great. 2. The Staff. All of the staff we dealt with are great folks! 3. The food at the restrnt is great (though way toooooo expensive for what you get!) If you are going up with kids, and they are the modern types (computers, Wii game, Xbox, and all of the other crap) get ready for some heavy duty withdrawal's! None of the cabins have Internet or WiFi. Heck, I could not even get AM/FM reception in the cabin(s) though our vehicle satellite (XM) worked. I must admitt though, while not my first option, actually this would be my last option, I would stay again just to be able to hit the slopes! I hope sometime in the future, who ever owns this place stops using the BS excuse of "rustic" and face the fact that the place is run down and needs to be updated.
