Talk about a gross misrepresentation of the word "RESORT." This place should advertise itself as rustic camping, at its best! The cabins are overpriced for the outdated facilities and conveniences it offers. The decor in cabin we stayed in (A7) seemed stuck in the 70s time warp. Old equipment was piled up in visible areas, detracting from the ambiance. On a positive note, the people were pleasant and the cabin was clean (except the restroom). Just came back from a trip to Lakeshore Resort. Having never been there I wasn't sure what to expect. I am one who can adjust pretty easily to many situations, but this place is a bit run down. So, when the reviews describe the cabins as 'rustic', believe it! They are definitely rustic and old. They do have charm (as in, they are built in the 20's)but the cabin we happened to be in, C2 was definitely NOT a cabin I would return to. The kitchen is cramped, and when I say cramped, I mean, unless you're a party of 2 people, don't bother! it's difficult to move around with more than 2 people in there. Unless someone steps into the bedroom/bathroom area or outside! The bathroom was dirty and very small and the bedroom we were in has a mouse inside the walls that loves to come out at midnite EVERY night and gnaw, chew and scratch it's way up and down the walls, keeping you up. Plus, this cabin is close to a main road that gets lots of car and foot traffic. The other people in our group stayed in a D cabin and it was more roomy. Next time, if there's a next time, I will choose an E cabin or one off the main road. The bed linens were also a bit old and dingy looking. Luckily, I had our own blankets, etc. I truly get the charm of this place, but this place could be slammin' if the owners would fix a few things in some of the cabins (LIKE C2! the squeaky faucets, the showerhead that sprays everywhere but inside the shower, the mouse issue, the windows that are almost glued shut and you can barely open them! etc) and clean the outside of the place up a bit! the old coke machines and tractors sitting on the property, sort of cramp the ambiance of the place. Plus, when we went to dump our garbage (why doesn't staff pick it up?) over by the store area, the trash was overflowing and dogs were picking in it?! Again, nice ambiance! The lake was low due to the drought, but still pretty. There isn't a whole lot to do around these parts, unless you fish. Or plan to go skiing in the wintertime. It's relaxing and beautiful, for sure and something to be seen, but don't expect a lot of luxury or amenities! it's definitely run down and rustic! read more

This review is strictly for the restaurant and tiny general store at Lakeshore - we have a family cabin so we didn't stay on the property. Huntington Lake is generally a very quiet place, I think I didn't spot another soul walking the trails near our cabin for the first three days we were up at the lake. Regattas are a big deal at Huntington Lake, so by Friday the place starts to fill up with the sailing crowd. We chose to have dinner at Lakeshore on an extremely busy Friday night, so I think that has a lot to do with my opinion of the food and service. Soup of the night was clam chowder. Not being people to complain about salty, we were definitely struck by just how salty the soup was. Salty! No, seriously...slug bait salty, no joke. We ordered the fish and chips and chicken Huntington as our entrees and they were both quite good. The place was slammed so I forgave the waitress for giving me the wrong side. One note about our waitress - despite the place being crazy busy with all the Regattaists, she took the time to pull up a chair and spin a yarn with us about a trip she took back east with her husband. I thought it was an awesome touch and I always love when service takes the time to get personal with customers. As for the general store on the property, I think it's the best of your two or three options way up at Huntington Lake. Decent beer selection, decent snack selection and you can get fishing licenses and gear. If I was just reviewing the place for the store they'd get four stars. read more

The family and I came up for our friend's wedding, which was held in the area and it was very nice and commented the wedding very well. The cabins are nice and cozy. Surprisingly, the cabins are clean, other cabins that we have been to are not clean. So, that's a big plus for me. The people who run it are very nice and try to make visitors feel welcomed. On the other hand, when my wife made reservations the lady was rude and not very nice...oh well. My friend is wife experienced the same thing as we did so it wasn't just us. It's was kind of funny how the phone calls are sketchy, but in-person the people are nice. Nevertheless, I thought it was nice that the Lakeshore Resorts held the wedding for my friends at their site. read more

If you are at Huntington Lake this is a MUST!! This place as the best charm and atmosphere of any bar I have been too!! The draft beers are $4-$6 depending on what you get, they had a couple craft beers on tap that were nice. The chicken tenders were really good. The bartender was super friendly and helpful, the owner was also super nice and even let us into the bar after they had closed to get a beer! It is a 5 min walk from the Deer Creek Campground. read more

This review is for the Restaurant that is next to the saloon as I saw the restaurant employee go from one to the other so I assume they're owned by the same person. My friend and I were staying in a cabin about 15 minutes up and decided to eat here because we ran out of charcoal for our dinner. We walked in at about 7:45-7:50 we were told they closed at 9pm so we thought we were good. We only had one family in front of us and we waited for a little while as it said to wait to be seated. No one greeted us but there was a girl cleaning the table next to us when she looked up at me and shook her head and walked away. She came back a few seconds later and said can I help you? We said we were waiting to be seated and she very rudely said they have 6 parties ahead of us and they don't take any new ones after 8pm and walked away. I looked at my phone and it was 7:58 and we had been sitting there for awhile before that. She was very rude and made us feel embarrassed. So we stepped outside and debated going into the saloon. I was talking to my friend saying how rude she was and how it wasn't even 8pm yet when she came out of the restaurant and saw us. She still had attitude when she said, "Excuse me!" To my friend who didn't realize she was behind him now. She went into the saloon and got something then came back through to go to the restaurant. That's when I stopped her and said, "excuse me but you said that you don't take parties after 8 but it wasn't even 8pm when you said that and we had been waiting for awhile before that." She didn't even let me finish before rolling her eyes and saying, "well we aren't taking anymore parties" I said, "That's fine but you don't have to be rude and short about it." She just walked back in and didn't once apologize. She was 4'6-4'9 and had really short brown hair. Almost like a pixie cut. I understand being overwhelmed and maybe over booked but her customer service was terrible towards us and if she can't handle that and still have decent customer service then she shouldn't be in that industry. read more

I love this place! We've been here twice, both times at the end of summer and it doesn't disappoint. If you are looking to "get away from it all", this is the place to do it. Yes, the cabins are rustic, but you can't beat the quiet, the smell of the enormous pines on the property and the thousands of stars at night. We've seen deer on the property and you are instructed not to leave food out at night, as that could attract animals you don't want around the cabin. As a summer retreat, it's the perfect place to rent a sailboat, canoe or pontoon boat. Lakeshore doesn't offer these services, but neighboring businesses are a short car ride away. Lakeshore does have a landing if you have a boat to bring. The cabins are fully equipped, although the kitchens might miss a few utensils and there is not a microwave or a dishwasher. Yes, you do have to wash your own dishes. There is a restaurant and bar on the property. On weekends during the summer, there is a dancefloor and it can get loud. Fortunately, these busineses are respectful of the time and the activity does end at a reasonable time. The staff is very friendly and offer the right amount of customer service; not over the top annoying friendly and helpful, but there to offer whatever they can. There's also a spot on the property to bring an RV. The size of those lots aren't huge, but most areas for RV camping aren't. Cellphone and internet reception are spotty, but again, you are in the mountains and if you want to get away, you can get access to what you need if necessary. A new chef!! We had lunch last week - the french dip was wonderful. The meat was thinly sliced, the bun fresh and the dip aujus flavorful. The salad with grilled chicken was huge, fresh and the dressing, which comes on the side, delicious. There was one lovely waitress for a large number of customers but she was attentive to all. (Most of the businesses in Huntington are running short-handed.) They are still getting a routine going so things take time. My recommendation - relax and enjoy as the food is worth it. The restaurant manager working hard to see that all running smoothly & kudos to the chef. We will return! read more

The restaurant at Lakeshore Resort is rustic, homely, and everything you'd expect from a mountain restaurant. Very affordable lineup of wines, which, although not very fancy, do the trick. Most expensive white is under $35 (the La Crema Chard). We had the fettucine alfredo with chicken, which was fantastic. Not too buttery, as so many alfredos seem to be. This was just heavy enough to get a good sense of creaminess, but light enough that the Chardonnay still stood its ground. Service had a few hitches, but given how demanding a yelper such as myself can be, it was fine. What more than made up for the hitches was the fact that the staff was very friendly, and seemed to really care about the patrons. Being the only restaurant in town, Lakeshore Resort could really get away with slacking off, but this wasn't the case. I will be back! read more

I was just here a little over two weeks ago. I only stayed here for 3 nights while I went snowboarding at China Peak. I really, really like our little cabin. It wasn't anything fancy, which was fine. We ARE trying to be one with nature. =) I read a lot of mixed reviews about this resort before I came out here and was a little worried because many people said that it was rundown. But to my surprise, it really wasn't. It's not the Four Seasons Hotel but it was very nice for a get away cabin. It was a winter wonderland. The locals said that we came at a very good time because they just had a fresh snowfall, and now the weather is nice and warm for us to enjoy. There was a General Store there. It's kinda expensive, but you don't really have an array of choices to pick from. So, it was good. It have everything thing that you might have forgotten to pack. They also have a restaurant and a saloon. We went to the restaurant to eat breakfast one morning and was told that they were serving in the saloon that day. So we headed into the saloon. I love it there, it was like a scene out of the movie. Moose heads on the wall. Darts to play. And a nice cast iron heater in the center to keep us warm. The food was ok. Nothing to rave about. The server was nice but not very good at waitressing. She did not bring us any menus for like 15min and there was only one other party of 3 there. When she brought us our coffees she didn't bring over anything sugar or cream. When our food came, we still didn't receive any silverware. And when our glass of water was empty, no refill. But she was a very nice person so we still tipped. All in all, it was a really nice stay. Did I mention that I really, really like our little cabin? Oh and the price was very good compared to the other resorts in the area that is not even as close to China Peak as this one. read more

This was the worst place ever! A couple years ago, We checked in Friday for a 3 night Presidents' Day weekend and noticed that there were only 3 plastic glasses for 4 people and no paper towels . We went to the store and asked if I could get a couple more glasses and the clerk huffed and puffed that I would have to wait. While waiting my wife overheard another customer say that she didn't have any paper towels, so she gave her a roll. My wife asked and she said "you'll have to buy them". My wife said "the other customer didn't have to" she says " she asked first". We got the glasses and paid for the towels 30 minutes later. First night was ok, we had a great time skiing. Started to make dinner and noticed that it was starting to get cold (it was 20 that night) the heater wouldn't work. So we called and they tried to fix it to no avail! They gave us 2 space heaters that were inadequate. No extra blankets. Whenever we turned it on high the breakers would go off. So me, my wife and 2 children froze that night. We woke in the morning and noticed we didn't have hot water, told the clerk and she said that the heating and hot water were connected and couldn't be fixed until Tuesday. "Don't you have maintenance?" "Another unit to stay in?" No, they all are off for the weekend, we're booked up. We skied all that day and decided to check out. The clerk said we had to pay for the entire 3 nights because it was a holiday weekend and they were full. I wrote a check for 1 and asked to talk to the owner, she refused and we left. 2 weeks later we got an email from the owner saying we still owed for 2 nights or face a collection agency. She also tried to charge the credit card for the full amount, but we contested it and won because they accepted the check. I now realize the clerk was the owner. I told her then that I would take her to court, not having hot water and heat would be a pretty good argument not to pay along with pictures of frozen water in the sink and 2 tiny space heaters. She then called and told us we were the worst guests they ever had! The nerve! I work in the hospitality industry and have never encountered such an evil spirited person. Avoid this place at all costs!!! read more

Went there today with my parents excited to have a delicious lunch. We walked in and sat down at a FILTHY table. Looked like it hasn't been cleaned in months. The bartender/waitress never even acknowledged us and when we went to get her attention she said "We're not serving food until 5 o clock tonight. Umm what?? This resort is horrible and dirty. The cabins are old and dirty. Not just the kind of dirty that needs to be cleaned but the kind that needs to replaced. The carpet is gross (don't walk barefoot), beds are horribly uncomfortable, and you probably shouldn't sit on the couch. The kitchen was supposed to come stocked with pots and pans (as it comes with kitchen) and it only had one pan and two forks! Four of us. The lake view is beautiful naturally but if you decided to take a walk don't walk up the hill. Piles of junk, old equipment that doesn't run and RVs with no roofs. They serve ok food if you don't wait 45 mins, the store is usually out of items (extremely pricey) and the beer is hot(cold beer is a must). Again the lake is beautiful and you visit but head back down the hill when done. read more

I love the mountains and too may times, so called mountain resorts are nothing more than IKEA furniture painted brown with a few plastic pine cones in a basket on you table. Lakeshore is the real deal, all the way from the cabins down to the Saloon. I take my Family to Lakeshore every year and just love it up there. The restaurant food is excellent as is the service. GREAT PLACE!!! BTW- Watch out for those Bibb Tea's at the Saloon, they will sneak up on you!!! read more

The 5 star is for Sarah the manager and her staff. We had our wedding this past weekend at Lakeshore and it turned out perfect. I was a mess and forgot some things but Sarah was able to come up with a solution for everything. The staff were so helpful and friendly. They made my wedding day so beautiful and memorable. The best thing about Sarah is she really cares about her clients and tries to give the bride and groom exactly what they want. She really took that extra step to make everything just perfect. Plus she did all of this while pregnant. Remarkable! Her whole staff is great. Daniel was one that stood out too. Very nice guy. Thank you so much for everything you guys did for Bryan and I. Keep up the good work A note on the lodging: If you decide to do a wedding at Lakeshore, please remind your guests that it's rustic. It's not like a spa resort like you find on flat land. So don't expect anything glamorous. It's a step up from tents though and actual camping. You at least have a private shower/bathroom. If they want something more glamorous have them check out some houses/condos available for rent in the area. Some of my guest didn't realize that. Just an FYI. read more

Aside from this being one of the few places on Huntington Lake to get groceries, good cold beer, and a very solid lunch or dinner, they are also incredibly helpful and kind. My wife and I had our wedding on the lake this summer, and got held up on a hike in the back country the day before the wedding. When the florist showed up to drop off all the flowers for the wedding, we were not there to receive them. Fortunately, the florsit knew what we didn't know...that the staff at Lakeshore are amazing and without a question were happy to store our flowers in their cooler OVERNIGHT while we found our way back from an over-ambitious hike. Went to Huntington Lake for our 22nd annual family reunion (27 people). I am 72 years old so for the last 4 reunions myself and others have been staying in motels or cabins. All the other family members planned to stay in tents or trailers at Rancheria Campground. I reserved a cabin for 6 nights in June for $1,029.12. Two weeks before the reunion the Forest Service closed Rancheria Campground due to hazard trees and canceled the reservations. I had every intention to stay at the cabin but, the Forest Service caused the family reunion to be moved elsewhere. I attempted to contact Lakeshore Resort numerous times thru phone calls and emails to see about canceling my reservation given the situation, BUT RECEIVED NO RESPONSE from them at all. Most of the time I tried to call no one answered the phone and I was sent to voicemail which they NEVER responded too. Someone finally answered the phone after a week and I explained the situation and was told the owner was in a meeting and when he got out he would call me right back. Again I received NO CALL OR COMMUNICATION from the owner. She informed me they had a no cancellation policy. I told her that given the situation I would at least like to talk to the owner to discuss the issue and see if we could come to an agreement or compromise. We had our family reunion last year at Huntington Lake and I stayed at Lakeshore Resort in cabin D8. I guess the owner does not care about returning customers. All he cares about is money. I will NEVER stay at Lakeshore Resort again. They refuse to communicate with their customers. My goal in life now is to tell 50 people of my experience and recommend they never stay at Lakeshore Resort and have them tell their friends. read more

Unfortunate. Cabin was unsatisfactory to say the least. The lack of professionalism and courtesy from the staff immediately stands out when you check in. Family was really looking forward to a quaint little cabin stay and soon realized that the cabins were outdated and unsuitable for overnight stay. Tougher it out after the long travel up the mountain to a really cool lake. Outdoor camping is the way to go here which is sad to say. The cabins was really cool and quaint but looked as though they hadn't been cleaned in months. Bathroom was horrible. Beds looked as though they were original from the 40's. No sheets on beds. No toilet paper. Sink clogged. Shower was the worst I've ever seen. When talked to staff the response was "It is what it is, Take it or leave it. We have already charged you card. No refunds." Wow. Rented a two person cabin with my dad on a summer trip. The cabin was small clean, well-maintained, had nice rustic feel to it. They had chairs out on the deck to sit in though I do wish there had also been tables. The water in the tap was milky which would have been concerning except were informed when we checked in that that was because the water was highly oxygenated. They weren't kidding if you look close you can see the gas fizzing out of the water and hear it making small crackling noises. When we came in we were given a sheet of paper indicating we needed to ask about the fire situation. There was a big fire pit next to our site that was perfect for 4th of July cooking. The people I talked to at the front desk were polite and competent. They told me where to buy firewood and doubled checked that I knew how to put out a fire. The lamentable thing was that the valve on the coffee maker didn't work properly, they only provided decaf coffee samples, and there were no coffee cups to put it in. I would recommend bringing your own coffee supplies when you come (including electric kettle or coffee maker as there is no kitchen). There was a mini fridge provided but no matter how high I set the temperature (via lower setting #'s) everything froze, possibly because the freezer area was so packed with ice that the door wouldn't close. All in all good camping experience. The negatives are minor and not hard to work around. read more

We made our reservations for a cabin here in April for the High Sierra Regatta weekend and we had to reserve for 3 days, instead of our usual 2, because it was considered a holiday weekend. This was fine, until we received a call the day we were supposed to arrive that our reservation had a problem, it was put down for 2021 and our cabin had been reserved to someone else. What?! Not sure why the 2nd reservation couldn't be the one cancelled, we were first. They offered to put us in a cabin for one night and found a canvas "cabin" down the road for the next 2 nights since everything was booked, even campsites. That just didn't work for me because I am not a camping person and later on I heard that there was a loud band and tv on until 11 pm the 2 nights we would have been there. I found a room at China Peak Ski Resort, which didn't have a kitchen, but it worked. Since they made the mistake (would it occur to you to check the year on the confirmation if it's a few months away?), we were told we would be refunded and we were, along with a discount for our next stay, which will be next year, I hope. Given that the time we were there was considered a holiday weekend, I was surprised to find that the restaurant was closed for breakfast on a Friday morning. It seems that they are only open for breakfast on the weekend during the summer. We later ate dinner and breakfast there. Leave your healthy eating lifestyle back home. You'd better like cream in your food for dinner because there aren't a lot of entree choices that don't have it, unless you want a lot of meat and the only salad option was side salad. Our waiter kindly told us to forget the potato soup and don't think about substituting tomato sauce for the cream. The food was too salty for my taste. The next morning for breakfast the waitress forgot to give us our coffee and I had to leave the table to ask for it because she didn't notice me trying to flag her down while at the next table. Breakfast worked, but it was huge. Sunday we went to have breakfast again and the restaurant wasn't open, no sign, nothing, which then forced us to go to the Fireman's pancake breakfast. It's good to support the community, but that is not what I wanted to eat. The store has a limited selection of items, what you'd expect in the mountains. It does carry ice, which is necessary since it gets so hot there during the day. read more

It is what it is! A beautiful hidden away town in the High Sierras. The quality of the restaurant is surprising considering you're almost at the tree line and a couple of hours to anywhere major! Have been going there for 40+ years and have always thought Huntington Lake was MY secret resort. Simply beautiful. Lodge has very nice but quaint rooms right across from the boat launching ramp. Lake is about 2 miles wide and 11 miles long. Great wind for Hobbies, too cold to swim. Fishing is great especially at the mouth of the creek. (Oooops my secret is shot). Did I mention ask the guys in the store what bait is best when you visit. read more
