Came here for the first time after seeing it many times when dropping off mail. It's in an industrial area across the street from the main post office. My wife was wanting to find a good sandwich place and reviews were above average so we gave it a try. I ordered the pastrami sandwich on a French roll. It was to me a little small for a full sandwich. Just about 8-9 inches long. Not a lot of pastrami and barely enough mayonnaise to get some taste. The sandwich was ok and I was able to eat my wife's also because she didn't care for it. My wife also ordered a turkey sandwich. The avocado was old with some good around the edges but the center was brown and black. Needless to say she scraped off the avocado and the limpy lettuce and ate half and threw out the rest. Staff was nice and pleasant but the cook was very stoned face and looked like she wanted to be somewhere else. I came here for a coffee while waiting for my wife. While I only had an Americano coffee --- a very good and sizable coffee --- the place is a very pleasant place to hang out. The woman who served me behind the counter --- the owner I think --- was super friendly and welcoming. The vibe in the cafe and at the outdoor tables was relaxed and chilled. It has a nice fountain outside and for an office park in soul-free OC it's not bad. Coffee was fine. Food was greasy and inedible. It's kind of a food desert in this section of Santa Ana/ Costa Mesa for quick bites so I'm always trying to find a non-chain decent coffee and snack. At least I found coffee. read more

I'm not sure how this place has 4 1/2 stars, but I am going to give it 2. I was craving a breakfast burrito all morning and found Lakeside Cafe, here in Costa Mesa. They only have one kind of breakfast burrito. I ordered it without the bacon and add avocado and sour cream, all for $7.25. First off, there was no sour cream added. Big downer there since I paid for it. Second, the size of the burrito, well, let's just say, size matters in this case. With a good-sized breakfast burrito you should be able to hold it with both hands. This was about the same size as a Del Taco breakfast burrito, which if you know, they aren't that big, you can hold about five of them in one hand and they cost around $.69-1.00. I paid $7.25. If they didn't fold the tortilla so much they could have added more egg and potato. Sad to say, this wasn't the best. Won't be going back. And definitely don't get this if you are super dooper hungry...you will need about 4 of these....and that would be about 30 buckaroos. (See pic below for the actual size) read more

It was described to me as similar to pumpernickel, and I correctly assumed that it would have a more interesting nutrient profile that regular white bread. The sandwich was solid, made with chicken pieces, a pesto sauce and a garlic sauce (or maybe one sauce with both), mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and I had them hold the jalapenos. Have you ever had one of those peculiar days where you can't tell if it's bad or good... though everything wrong is happening, you refuse to call it a bad day because your heart and mind doesn't feel necessarily bad. Today was one of those days in the story of my life. Everything seems to not go the way I would write the story of my day; from locked doors, computer dying, white shoes getting dirt on them, to water spilt on the zone that you don't it to spill :) But you see, a slimmer of hope arose for me on this peculiar day. A few days ago I had came across a secluded place little shop called lakeside cafe (this cafe) and was pleased to see that the expansive food options while the cost is more than affordable. The first day I bought a sandwich called lakeside sandwich and it gave life to my cold soul, but was not as dramatic as today. Today I went back here after my long wandering of trying to find a affordable place to eat. I got a chicken healthy sandwich and it objectively tasted ok... but spiritually it revived my hopeless heart after such an odd interaction with life. The hard working ladies there really do make a mean sandwich, I do wish my mom could make a sandwich as mean as them :') so all in all, this place will seriously just fill your heart with a lil sunshine if the clouds of sadness is covering it :') read more

Like ripping me off tiny. I came for lunch with a friend. What we got for a little under $30 was laughable. Don't order the half sandwich, or pretty much any sandwich as size-wise you'll be dissapointed if you have an appetite. If you are on a diet, this is the joint for you! My half sandwich was so small it was basically a regular store bought slice of bread folded in half and with minimal filling. My friends whole sandwich wasn't too much bigger. I just can't give it two stars due to the age we are living in. Now, more than ever we should be getting our money's worth since things are the way they are. So, if you are going to charge these prices at least give an appropriately sized product. read more
