I'm not a huge breakfast person, it just isn't my favorite meal. So for a restaurant to serve me a breakfast that I keep thinking about, it definitely has to be good. Nestled in a nook over the bridge, Lakeside Grill can easily be missed. Small, comforting, and some great food for a great price. Our family of 5 all thought the same thing when we looked at the menu: these prices are amazing. For less than $20 a person you can get an entire breakfast, coffee, and be more than satisfied - something you definitely can't get in the city. I opted for a heavenly omelette with mushrooms, spinach, swiss & hollandaise sauce and was not disappointed. Even the presentation was beautiful, something you don't find often from small eateries! Will definitely be returning to try the crabcake benedict (yum!!) and check out their lunch/dinner options! read more

Went for early dinner. shocked how mentally incapable the waitress was. There we only 2 of us in the whole restaurant. She only put the order in for of one of us. After 3-4 times asking where my food was, manager had explained she did not put my order in and will be another 20 minutes. Fairly ridiculous. She did eventually brought my average tasting tater tots. She also had no idea what was good or popular on menu. Also no beer/alcohol is served. All these other reviews seem to be a farce. read more

I brought my PTSD psychiatric & medical assistance service dog. The staff was extremely rude, embarrassed me in front of all of the entire filled restaurant of customers. They denied me access to let my service dog and me in their restaurant. Originally I was told to just go sit down at their booth where my dog fully trained and laid underneath the booth table at my feet (as he is trained to do). He was out of the way of the entire restaurant since he was directly underneath my table. The wait staff girls were yelling at me to leave. They told the owner doesn't allow dogs in their restaurant and the owner / manager refused to come out and speak to me. Apprently the owners / managers of the restaurant said they will Not allow me to eat there. They kicked me out of the restaurant because I had a SERVICE DOG. It's absolutely appalling and discriminating against someone who has invisible disabilities. They refused to serve me because of my service dog and my disability. I' was discriminated against. They embarrassed me and was extremely hostile with me since I walked in to eat lunch. I have gone to speak with the actual owners of that section in Smithville who are the Fitzgeralds. I would like to know why I was denied and discriminated against for my disabilities. This is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable behavior for someone who served their time. Do not go to this restaurant. They are disgrace to human decency. I hope the actual owners of Smithville make this right. My voice will not be silenced. read more

No frills simple breakfast/lunch spot. The interior is small - not much seating. The servers were very nice but few - it took a while on a Monday morning. The food was hot but I could tell it wasn't homemade. The ranch in the chicken wrap was from a large warehouse bottle but the chicken and bacon itself were good. The sausage gravy was also heat up with a Pillsbury biscuit as the base. The coffee was good though. Good if you're hungry, but not worth waiting around. read more

Delicious breakfast!! Reasonable prices, nice portions, super tasty. The ambience was very tiny with not much decor, but got lucky enough to snag a window seat with a lake view. Service was quick and efficient. Highly recommend the strawberry cheesecake pancakes (decadent), side of sausage (patty form which usually is a no from me, but were DELISH, thin, and grilled to perfection), and breakfast quesadilla which was nicely filled and crispy + opted for a side of fruit (perfectly sweet). My visit to this restaurant was extremely disappointing. The meal they served was clearly under cooked, with portions still cold and visibly raw. When I asked for it to be replaced, the staff responded curtly and seemed far more attentive to other guests. The difference in treatment felt discriminatory and left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. No customer should have to deal with poorly prepared food and biased service. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this place to anyone at all, under any circumstances. Its lucky I can't give a zero star. read more

So glad I found this little spot! Our group ate here twice during vacation, it was that good. It seemed to be a favorite with locals too, patrons were consistently coming in for takeout orders. Prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes. Their soda fountain machine was broken during our visit, but they had a wide selection of bottled beverages. The onion rings were cooked perfectly. The wraps are very filling. I could only eat half! Pickles were excellent and a nice bonus. I love a side pickle included with sandwiches. read more

We had a mixed experience here during our recent visit when we passed through the area and stopped by for a little shopping. I picked this place to grab a quick dinner as it got some decent reviews on Yelp. I had a good impression when I came in and noticed it was fairly clean and well kept. There isn't a huge amount of seating inside but there is a little outside seating nearby too in the general area. I ordered a Texas Cheeseburger for take out (I opted to sit by the faux lakeside seating area just outside the restaurant) and I waited outside for my food. Despite the fact there was only one table of customers inside and two people who sat outside in the small table directly outside of the restaurant (who ended up waiting also extremely long for their food) - it took them a substantial amount of time to get my burger ready (like 20-30 minutes). I get if the food is slow b/c it was extremely busy, but unless they were really understaffed, it took very long to get the food. When I got the food, it was fine. The burger was very big and the portions were fairly sizable. The burger itself was cooked fine but there was a ton of BBQ sauce and that made the entire burger pretty salty. However in terms of the meat itself and everything it was fine and I ate the whole thing, albeit it was still on the salty side by the end. Anyway the food was okay but the long wait in the absence of many customers was a bummer. read more

Hello Yelpers, My friends on here know I was an Elite Yelper for a couple years before we had our second child and I got pulled away from reviewing everywhere I go.. Those of you that have read my previous reviews know that I am very nice and very forgiving to restaurants. These days escpecially because of the tough atmosphere of higher prices and staffing issues. I used to have a 2 visit standard before I review, but today that changed. I urge you to try any place at least once and that is still the case here. My 2 star review is for 3 reasons: 1. False advertising / Lying 2. Poor customer service by ownership/management 3. Intimidation and harassment So lets begin with what I ordered and the good stuff... I ordered a Lobster Roll with sweet potato fries for $16.95 plus tax and tip (see receipt picture). I appologize for not having a picture of my order because I returned the items to the kitchen. The sandwich looked amazing! It was full to the brim, bun was toasted perfectly and it had a good seafood flavor. The sweet potato fries were really good- soft on the inside and crunchy shell on the outside. However, one concern arose as I ate my second bite... I COULD NOT FIND ANY REAL LOBSTER IN THE LOBSTER ROLL?!? Since my wife, two kids and I split the sandwich- it was already half gone when I went back into the restaurant. In my opinion, it was a good sandwich, but I was a little perturbed that they would charge $18 after tax for a NO LOBSTER-LOBSTER ROLL...It was all immitation lobster meat which is made from fish (no lobster) After talking to my wife, I was going to go back inside and simply ask for proof that there is actual lobster in the sandwich so I felt better about the price I was paying... and everything went downhill from there ... I went back into the counter and brought my concern to the girl that took my order. She was nice and said this is the lady that can answer your question. So I asked the next lady who I would assume to be the manager and she said she didnt know and went into the back to talk to somebody... about 2 min later (which felt like an eternity standing at a counter in the middle of this small eatery with people seated all around) a gentlemen came out of the back and I repeated my question for a third time "Is there Lobster in the lobster roll and can you prove it to me so I can feel better about the price I paid?" To keep this story as short as possble- the answer was obviously "NO" after he was visibly shaking from me asking him to simply prove there is lobster in the lobster roll. Immediately he was contentious by saying " Do you want me to bring you the shells from the dumpster in the back?".. I said just show me if you have any real lobster meat at this location and he started barraded me and said I was scamming him because I ate the whole sandwich and then complained. However, I did not.. I went outside and brought back in half of the sandwich and almost all of the fries. At this point I asked him to show me one piece of lobster in my remaining sandwich and he would not... because he could not! He then issued me a refund of $18.00 (less than what I paid) and was basically telling me to hit the road... When he went to hand me cash back, he held onto the bills and wouldn't release them! I guess he was trying to intimidate me? I did not ask for a refund, or any money back... I just wanted to know if there was any lobster in the lobster roll?!? One statement he made that perturbed me was "Do you know how much lobster costs these days?"... and at that point I knew what the real answer was... He is knowingly defrauding the customers and wouldnt be truthfull with me and anyone else that orders this item. It should really be called a "seafood salad roll" I must note that I was calm the whole time but extremely disappointed in how (at the highest employee level) I was being treated, talked to and disrespected IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE RESTAURANT! I left and called the police just to document the incident for future reference knowing that if this goes further it would be a civil issue. I am gonna give myself a day to cool down and I will give the restaurant time to fix there recipe and/or menu... If they do neither, then I will go further. and for the record... I just wanted a lobster roll and someone to prove thats was what i got.... not a seafood salad roll ‍ The lady/manager that was the second one I initially spoke with, was sarcastically saying loudly "Have a great day" with the attitude of a high school drama queen harassing me as I was walking out of a place that was in the wrong... Never lie! Be honest! ESCPECIALLY IF YOU MESS UP! You can make this right by changing the menu or the recipie, and making a public apology here. I will be happy to change it to a 3 star review at that point. read more

Smithville is a little tourist trap (but cute) with shops and places to eat and snack. Lakeside isn't all that large, so we were just able to grab a table before a line started. My husband got a Rueben and subbed tater tots for fries. He ate every bit! I went for the healthy choice, although my fish was fried way more than I'd have liked. I guess expected "fried" to be sautéed, yet it was deep fried. Beyond the crunchiness (which I have to admit I do like) the fish was nice and tender. I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. We usually go to the restaurant at the Inn when we visit Smithville, but we thought we'd try something different. The Cobb salad I had was huge and came with a very generous amount of chicken. If you have a small stomach you could split this one. The bacon in it was crisp and fresh and the honey mustard dressing was nice and tangy and not the mayonaise-y version I was expecting. If I had to give it a strike it really should come with fresh avocado instead of a side of guacamole but that's a minor quibble and it was off season when we visited. My companion had their pierogi and pickle fries, which were both delish. The breading on the fries was particularly excellent. Would definitely come back! read more

Came here for lunch one day while touring Historic Smithville and enjoyed it! Before coming, I tried to check out the menu online but the restaurant's website is pretty busted. I think the few pictures of the food available on the website are actually stock photos (I got the lobster roll and it did NOT look like the one pictured on the website) so I would recommend the restaurant update the site to have more accurate photos of the food :) Anyway, it's a small restaurant with only a few tables, but we managed to snag a seat. Our server was fantastic throughout the meal - she did a great job of checking in on us without being overbearing. I got the lobster roll (as mentioned above) and it was fine but not spectactular. That being said, all of the food was pretty darn affordable, so I can't really complain too much :) Overall, if you're looking for decent food at good prices, I think this spot is a pretty good pick. read more

Another one star review for Lakeside Grill. My 96-year-old mother and I travel 25 minutes to eat at Lakeside Grill in Smithville every week. We eat on various days and infrequent times so virtually all of the staff knows us to some degree. With the exception of James, as I struggle to bring her wheelchair into the small cafe none of the staff ever help hold the door open even when we are the only customers that morning. I would struggle with one hand pushing open the door and the other pulling the wheelchair while they watched. Today, September 4, 2024, for the first time she ordered crab cake benedict which at $16.99 is probably the most expensive breakfast item. The crab cake was so overcooked that it was crunchy. Of the two eggs she took a bite or two of one or about 25% of the entire meal. The other egg was untouched. She politely explained to the waitress that it "just didn't taste right" (she's had eggs benedict before) and asked for an order of chicken tenders in its place. This is her usual fare. When the check arrived, we were charged full price for everything: $49.80 for two people. This didn't set well with us. When she complained to the unsympathetic waitress she was basically told, "Well, you ate half of it." After several minutes she was offered 20% off the entire meal or $9.96. She wasn't pleased because most restaurants would give a full refund if you're not satisfied. Another waitress, who seemed to have more seniority, offered to call the owner. After waiting several more minutes, she returned again (lying) that my mother ate "half the meal", and the best the owner could do was offer 50% off the crab cake benedict or now a lower $8.50 refund. Already disgusted, rather than finish her meal my mother put her food in a to go box, and we left a cash tip on the table and left. The restaurant was getting busy, and a customer helped us with the door. After all of this the waitresses couldn't provide a little additional customer service and hold the door open for us. Needless to say, Lakeside Grill lost a steady customer who frequently tipped around 30%. read more

we stopped into lakeside grill while visiting smithville for the christmas lights and shopping, and were pleasantly surprised at the delicious lunch we had. I ordered a lobster roll and sweet potato fries and it was fresh, loaded with lobster meat and a buttery toasted bun. just like in maine. my husband's fried fish sandwich was piled high with lettuce tomato and onion and the fish was a couple filets of fresh flounder. it was huge, but he managed to eat every bite. my only complaint is the constant draft from people standing at the doorway thinking about coming in, but not the restaurant's fault! highly recommend this little spot. read more

We were visiting the area and wanted somewhere new to try. I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it. This place was tucked away in a cute little village surrounded by a beautiful lake called Historic Smithville. The restaurant is very small but cute. The food was good and Molly was very friendly. I would definitely go back. The only downside is the place is incredibly small so small it doesn't have a bathroom. We also visited the shops around this restaurant it was really nice. I would love to go back in the summer and see what it looks in the warm weather. read more

Absolutely the worse experience I've had at a restaurant. To say the service was poor would give them too much credit. It took a good twenty minutes just to get our coffee. Then when we asked where our food was they said they were really busy. Busy? One table was already eating when we came in and one came in after us. There was three of us... one lobster roll came - inside good roll was stale... a side of bacon came cold... then toast cold and hard... then cold eggs. Finally the egg omelette came stone cold. The hash browns they forgot came out piping hot! We complained to our waiter- he said it was because they were so busy BUSY? Busy doing what?? We complained when we paid - they said they had a new cook. REALLY!! They didn't try to make anything right... didn't take a penny off the bill. A very good breakfast spot located in Smithville. Had breakfast here on October 14th and was very surprised that they don't open until 10 am. A little late for a breakfast spot that has numerous other great restaurant options very close by. I had the Breakfast Quesadilla which came in a large portion complete with home fries. The quesadilla was good, but had too much green pepper which was left in large pieces. You can see them in the photo. Kind of overwhelmed the dish. Pulled about half of them out and it certainly evened the flavors out. Coffee and service were very good. Recommended, but don't go early! read more

My family and I stopped in here on a whim while checking out the Holiday light show. We were just going to order and head home but there was 2 tables inside available to eat at so we stayed. We sat down waited about 15 minutes and the nice lady from the counter brought us our food in to go containers with cutlery and napkins. We ordered the tuna melt with fries and the chicken fried chicken with zucchini & mashed potatoes as sides. The cfc also came with a house or ceasar salad and a cheesy toasted roll. If your looking to be shocked with some amazing food in a touristy area this is the place to goto. The meatloaf was better than homemade with freshly grilled zucchini and homemade mash. The French toast was cooked perfectly and had tons of flavor. Buffalo wrap and Italian wedding soup were both to die for. I am so glad we passed on tails and have this place a shot. This place is amazing! Late October in Smithville, midweek, so several shops and restaurants closed--Lakeside Grill was open, so three very hungry friends sat down to what we thought was going to be a basic lunch. Everything was so good. Lobster roll overflowing with meat, perfectly mixed with a few chopped pickles and creamy real mayo, on a chewy but tender bun. Lots of onion rings with no extra charge. BLT with lots of perfectly crisp (not burnt!) bacon. Cheeseburger fabulous with a side of real Italian broccoli with toasted garlic and just enough olive oil to flavor without drowning it. Tender, crisp fried calamari with very fresh homemade marinara. Fountain soda refills before we had to ask, and no extra charge. Laurie, Danielle, and chef Matteo, we'll be back! read more
