I visit Rockaway Beach about every 3 months from Bend. This place I've avoided in the past based on other Yelp reviews, I wish I wouldn't have. It was SO good. We had the clam chowder, which is WAY better than the Sand Dollar, the clam strips, sliders, and my son had the kids chicken strips. The soup was hot and delicious. The sliders were great and the clam strips and fries are worth a visit too. I don't know why people have had such bad experiences here. It's obviously a locals type vibe and the atmosphere matches. I'll go again and I'll come every time I come back to Rockaway, not to mention I'll recommend it to people who I know coming here too. I've eaten at every restaurant within walking distance of the hotel we always stay in. There aren't a lot of choices in this town, so when you find somewhere like this with good food and good service, with people who appreciate your business, I will always come back and tell others the same. read more

Excellent clam chowder, and the after 9 PM 5 jumbo fried shrimp and fries for $8.50 was a good deal but the restaurant side closes at 10 so you only have an hour to order it. Our waitress was great and let us have it almost a half hour early which really helped our family because most meals ran like $11+ unless you wanted to do the $10 burger thing. Absolutely avoid this place! When we walked in and made eye contact with the servers, they didn't direct us to a table or tell us to seat ourselves. After walking around a while to find a table that was not sticky we waited nearly 15 minutes before we were brought menus(still never actually greated). When asked what rootbeer brand they had...the server responded with strong attitude and answered "rootbeer". Similar response to what lettuces were in the salad..."ya lettuce". It took an extremely long time for the food to arrive. The fries were decent but tasted of fish...but the burgers and buns were from CostCo and overcooked. While we waited, we saw other victim families come in a get similar treatment and delay. The family who came in to pickup their pizza order only to have to wait another 30minutes looked particularly displeased. Oh and for those that actually want to know what lettuce is in the salad it's browning iceberg with shredded carrots. The fish and chips was terrible. Uniformly square pieces with dry breading and way over cooked. Cole slaw was also gross. Only reason I have 2 stars is my hubby had the prime rib special and it was edible...not great though. I would not recommend wasting your time or money here. read more

I would not recommend coming on a Oregon Duck Football game day because they are the only restaurant in town that shows it and it is hard to find a seat. The food was typical bar food but not bad and the chowder was very good. The service was very bad and slow. We had to request drink refills on many occasions and the server was very inexperienced and young and acted annoyed to have to help us. read more

The food was pretty good until..... The major issue was the behavior of an employee (and/or owner maybe?) Every sentence was prefaced with "I don't know where that girl is" or "hasn't she done that" or "god damn it, I told you to do that (talking about the outside lights)." She was pleasant to our faces but you could sense the frazzled, ugh I do everything around here attitude, but in reality she walked by us several times and didn't even acknowledge us while we waved our hands to get her attention after several failed attempts. Her thoughts towards the friendly, older gentleman seemed more like an verbally abusive relationship dynamic. Her thoughts may have been accurate, but I am not there all day, everyday. The thoughts shouldn't have vocalized in the way they were. It was really tense and uncomfortable all the way around...I should also mention the cable sex scene on the tv show playing above our daughters head in a family restaurant. Good food. Visiting in Rockaway and decided to give this place a shot. As we walked in, both server and manager were there to greet us, very friendly. The manager turned on the a tv just for us in the "karaoke" area so we could watch the game but still be secluded from the majority of the bar guests, who were watching the game. Fast service, especially for 1 server "Jac Jac" who worked her little butt off. She did an amazing job with the football crowd and stayed calm and collected. The food and astmosphere were great. Rockaway Beach is not an interesting city by any means so we stopped at Lakeside Hideaway sort of as a last resort. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the burgers were. There weren't many folks in the restaurant when we arrived, we didn't have any problem with the service. I don't think we'll be back, we decided to skip Rockaway for eating out the rest of our spring break trip, but if you're looking for a good burger, this is a good place. Re whether this is a good place for kids - my 6 yr old was disappointed that we couldn't sit in the lower area which has better views of the lake. It is the bar area and minors are prohibited. The waitress was friendly and took our order quickly (there was only 1 other family in there) I ordered the 1/2 a tuna salad sandwich and a Bloody Mary and my fiancé got a cheeseburger and beer. I wanted the chowder everyone raved about....but, they were out; at 1:00 in the afternoon on a rainy Sunday. Really?? My sandwich left a lot to be desired. It was a piece of small wheat bread ( like the cheap generic type bread) and about an 1/8 of a cup of tasteless tuna and a piece of wilted lettuce, three sliced pickles on the side and a small bag of plain Lays chips. My 2 year old grandson could eat that in a minute. For $6.00 I would have expected a little more than that. My finances burger was dry. The karaoke guy thought he was a comedian. Since our anniversary in January we had frozen T-bone steak, long waits, and now... over an hour for two pizzas!!! We are locals of this town and since January we have deemed this restaurant unfit for our business. We waited over an hour for our pizzas while we watched other people who entered the establishment after us being served immediately. This was our favorite spot for lunch and dinner.... now we will avoid it, and that is something coming from people who live here year round. It's little late that I am writing this review but I was there last week and it was absolutely wonderful! My boyfriend and I were driving through Rockaway and we walked into this place. We were first seated in the dining area but decided to move ourselves to the bar with the only other people there at 9pm and were welcomed. We ordered our mixed drinks and were thrilled with the drink and the service we got from our waitress. We absolutely loved the service we got from her the entire night. If you like pink burgers and long waits, this is the place for you! Walked in and the girl said, "Have a seat, I'll get you when I have a chance." We finally had our order taken (including just getting drinks) about 25 minutes in. Food came about another 25 minutes after. I had asked for my burger well done - it was completely pink. My husband and I really enjoyed our experience at the Lakeside Hideway when we visited in October 2014. We are loyal BSU fans and were looking for a place to enjoy dinner and drinks and cheer on our Broncos. We stopped in to see if they would have the BSU game on later in the evening and the owner programmed the TV to automatically switch to the BSU game when it came on. We enjoyed the pizza for dinner and the service was wonderful. The karaoke was a blast to watch and everybody looked like they were having so much fun. We were given a friendly warning about the local policeman who watches for drunk drivers and given permission to leave our car overnight in the parking lot so we could walk back to our hotel. This was the first vacation my husband and I took alone in 10 years and we are glad the Lakeside Hideaway was a part of it. read more

My husband and I walked in hoping to be seated for dinner. There was one couple in the restaurant and a number of people in the bar. We stopped at the front counter expecting to be greeted and have dinner. Instead we stood there for a couple of minutes while a guy in kitchen made eye contact with us and completely ignored us. He charged me $13 extra for something we didn't order, and had to get the manager to void it. The manager then yelled at the server in front of me. After waiting 15 minutes for them to figure out how to void it, I gave up and left. We were spending a week in Rockaway and had been driving all day. We asked the person at RBR for a good place to eat and she suggested the Hideaway, even though she said she had never been there! Well we did and it was a deal. It was Friday night just before 6 (still happy hour) and we each ended up having 2 draft beers each and two prime rib dinners for just under $40. Enjoyed our Steak and 'Western Burger', all while watching 'How it's Made' on one end, and my hubby watching his Team on the other side! Modest restaurant and bar with a fantastic view of the lake! We entered on a Friday night and got greeted and seated right away. Friendly, no nonsense and attentive service. The food was amazing. We had the mozzarella sticks, Fettuccini Alfredo and the Kevin burger. Best Alfredo and burger we've had in a long time, even being from Portland. Drinks were cheap and strong.
